I wanted to like this place a lot. Â I tried to convince my wife to go here multiple times, but she would never take the bait. Â They currently don't have any dining room area so when she was taking a nap I called in an order and picked up a couple pizzas and breadsticks. Â Take that!
The pizza was a hand-tossed crust. Â Not crispy or crackled like think crust but not deep-dish either. Â They do offer a deep dish pizza that we haven't tried yet. Â The crust was decently chewy but didn't have any real unique quality to it. Â
The cheese on the pizza was the star of the show. Â Its slightly tangy. Â Definitely tastes more like cheese than the cheese-like product you get at most chains. Â Our pepperoni pizza had adequate number of pepperonis that tasted much like pepperoni should. Â Past the 5-year old stepdaughter taste test anyway. Â The Hawaiian had green peppers, ham, and pineapple. Â All tasted fresh and delicious. Â
The breadsticks are dragging this place down a bit for me. Â As any good Muncie native knows, Pizza King is the place to beat around here. Â And their sticks are by far my favorite. Â TDub's are covered in garlic oil. Â Thick, doughy. Â Much like the pizza crust they aren't particularly crispy/crunchy. Â The lack of texture on everything in this place is a big bummer.
That said, I love the toppings. Â I appreciate what they are doing. Â I'll be back to try some deep-dish creation for sure. Â But for the everyday pizza run, still ringing the King.
Pizza made for and by pizza fanatics. Â The stuffed pizza is nearly $20, but ought to feed 4. Â The regular pie has a great thick crust similar to Greek's on a good day. Â They also pride themselves on their cheeseburger pie that is rumored to have 20 slices of bacon. Â CRAZY! Â I believe they have a pretty wide delivery range too.
Review Source:I wanted something other than franchise pizza tonight and I had heard there was a pretty good pizza place that opened recently on South Walnut. Â It was a dark and rainy night. Â The Colts don't have Peyton Manning, so it won't be fun watching Sunday night football tonight. Â Sounds like a time for an adventure.
The location 1428 S Walnut would mean it is south of 14th street in about every other town than Muncie. Â In Muncie, it means it is located at the northeast corner of Walnut and Eighth Street in the former Owl Drug if memory serves me correctly. Â The dining room is being remodeled, so it was carry out only tonight. Â They do have a jukebox for when the dining room re-opens.
We got the 14 inch Supreme Pizza with breadsticks that came with two sides so we chose cheese and garlic butter. Â These were no chintzy breadsticks and were filling by themselves--much larger and better tasting than Pizza King, IMHO. Â The pizza was excellent. Â They advertise the freshest ingredients, and I believe they were. Â There was a good base of pizza sauce and the toppings were generous with a slice of bacon on every slice of pizza. Â The crust was fresh, and looked and tasted like hand tossed dough in that it wasn't perfectly round and had a nice consistency and yeasty taste.
