I really wasn't expecting much when i pulled up to this place. I ordered what i usually order at a Mexican food joint when i'm not craving tacos...enchiladas! Their cheese enchiladas were awesome! The red chile they smothered them with was flavorful and the cheese actually tasted like cheese but the crispy rolled beef tacos were just ok just because they were small and they put a ton of cheese and guacamole on them which made the them cold. This place has a salsa bar with pretty good salsa and Pepsi products which is always a plus in my book. Now i wished they would open one in Loveland.
Review Source:This is my favorite guilty pleasure when I'm heading home from a late night at work.
For under $8, I can get enough yummy food to completely gorge myself, have ample leftovers, and induce chest pains.
The people there have always been ridiculously nice to me. One night, I got there about 10 minutes before they were closing. The door was unlocked, they let my guy and me stay there and eat, and they didn't even lock the door while we were still in there in order to keep other people from coming in.
One star off for location. I live in downtown Denver, and the traffic light situation in Commerce City was almost enough to make me never come back after my first visit. If you're making a late-night trip and trying to get to Vasquez afterwards, my advice is to go around the back and get on Dexter rather than getting on 60th. I waited through 4 light rotations without getting a green and eventually ran the light because there was no other way out and the smell of my food was making me ravenous.
I went here based on reviews of people from cali, saying how it's similar to the food there. After going to Mexican Fiesta  in San Diego, this has been my standard. I think Los Carboncitos  is more close than Taco Star, but whatever. for 9 bucks i got three tacos and a med. size horchata. the carne asada was good, and there was a lot of steak, but the flavor was lack luster. Onto the second, pork carnitas, this was the best.. Nice and grilled with more flavor than the steak, and also large. The third, fish taco was a little better than a gorton's fish stick. No real flavor and i think they used tater sauce on it. The horchata was OK no real taste of cinnamon...just OK. the last thing i want to mention is the salsa, three kinds all bland and no heat. weak sauce
overall i think this place is good, and the price for what you get is very good, but you are better off going to jack in the box across the street for a sourdough jack.
Hailing from southern California, I have been terribly homesick for San Diego style taco shops. Â On a whim one night I decided to cruise through Taco Star. Â I was floored, the menu contains all of my SoCal favorites, rolled tacos with guac, carne asada chips, machaca, you name it, they have it, even delicious spicy carrots on the salsa bar.
I have been back a few more times, dragging along my boyfriend (also from San Diego) and he was just as pleased as I was. Â
The shocking thing is that this place is EMPTY every time we go. Â Dining room is open til 11 and drive thru is 24 hours. Â There's really not much else in the way of tasty food in this are, so by all rights Taco Star should be packed.
Please, for the love of food, try this place, if you're a fan of taco shops, you really can't go wrong!
