There are few things which can warm someone's soul than pans of spiced foods ready to devour for lunch on a cold day. All eighteen degrees of this day guided me to the beacon of warmth on 3rd to indulge in some Indian cuisine.

We were seated immediately and had glasses of water poured for us instantly. I made my way over to the food selection to see a small buffet area offering some of the popular [americanized?] dishes with nice levels of steam rising up. I started with rice and worked my way over to the chicken tika masala. Add some saag paneer and a piece of naan and it's a classic lunch combo.

The chicken tika masala was bland tasting and didn't have the slightest hint of spices, even the coloring was a little off when I got a look at it in natural light. It was nice the chicken was in bite sized morsels, but that was the end of the good things about it. The saag paneer was also lacking a fresh flavor, and it made me wonder if ordering off the menu should have been the way to go over buffet. I know the rules.. quality for quantity. Something inside me was hoping the rice pudding was going to turn things around, and it kind of did. I had a small serving of it, and fortunately it tasted fine.

The service was adequate for a buffet, and there is a large parking lot out in front of the restaurant. The building itself could use some sprucing up as the peeling paint around the trim of the building.

What can I say, I took what was available given the smaller variety.

As far as Indian food goes this place is fairly bland (didn't realize that was possible with Indian food). If you order from the menu items are better but the lunch buffet is pretty bland.

I tried this resturant when it first opened and was mildly interested. A few years passed and a friend suggested we go there for lunch. I'm glad he did. I had not had the lunch buffet before. It was amazing! All the food had a freshly prepared taste. The food quality was excellent and the rice was cooked properly. Since becoming vegetarian I have frequented the place even more. I highly reccomend this place for lunch. I have never been there for dinner so i can't say anything about that, but if you're looking for a great place to eat for lunch and you're just the little bit adventuresome, GO THERE!

The food (we had butter chicken) is as good as the great Indian restaurants I've visited in London, NYC's East village, and Seattle.  And It's the only place outside Seattle where I've been able to get Haywards 5000 beer.  The service was also super despite their claim that they were short staffed.  We were driving from Indianapolis to St Louis and are very glad we drive the extra mile off the Interstate.

I should preface this review by noting that I have very high expectations of Indian food.  Taj Mahal did not meet them.

This is possibly the worst example of Americanized, bland as ****, Indian food that I have ever tasted.  We tried three main courses (lamb saag, chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken) - all of which were pretty dull.  In particular, the tikka masala tasted more like cream of tomato soup with chicken than any masala I've ever had (a considerable number).

Service was pretty good and the prices wouldn't have been bad if the food was better.

Went for lunch, very good buffet. Not a ton of options, but it really impressed me with the flavor in their food. Plus, I am a fan of spicy food, and this place has some spicy dishes. The place is pretty clean, the staff is friendly enough, and the price is fair for the buffet during lunch. The atmosphere is nothing special, as it used to be an IHOP and they really have not changed much inside. Everything I tried was either good or outstanding. Also, I never had to wait for something fresh to come out, they constantly had it restocked. Nice place to go for lunch.

This is really good Indian food. I haven't had anything better and this stuff totally beats the crud out of the Indian food I've had back in California. I came here one day with a bunch of brothers that treated us out for rush after suggesting Taj Mahal to them as a place to crash and eat.

We started off our order with an appetizer, Samosas...as I recall. They were packed with flavor and super good.

The way we did things is that we had everyone order a different entree so we could assess many different dishes in a single sitting. Spicy Level for the dishes we ordered was 3/4.

As far as I remember, we had Chicken Tikka Masala, some lamb curry with chestnuts? , some other seafood masala or curry , spicy tandoori chicken? ... I can't really remember. All that I remember was how good it was. The dishes were so flavorful that you felt like you couldn't eat it without some rice. Unlimited rice was nice to go along with the dishes.

Now, I'm just craving for their lunch buffet. This place is too good.

YUM YUM YUM YUM YUM.. MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH .. and I continued to shove food into my mouth.. when I say I want something spicy.. I mean SPICY.. not that punk ass spicy for people who can't REALLY take the heat because I can.. and TAJ MAHAL DELIVERED!. I challenged the cook to make me something as spicy as possible without losing the overall flavor of the dish.. he did.. and I was in heaven.. He said it was spicier than the levels they normally offer bc most people can't handle that fire.. but nicey can.. nicey did.. and nicey loved it! We had some regular naan and garlic naan.. both cooked to perfection, some palak paneer.. also DELICIOUS.. and some shrimp tandoori.. I could have gone into a food coma there if given the chance.. damn was that food good..

Food is excellent, but it's not the cheapest restaurant. I'd suggest going for the lunch buffet, which is a great deal.

I love this place!  If you are new to Indian cuisine, I suggest going during lunch hours to take advantage of the buffet.  This way, you can try different items and find your favorites.  The people working there are extremely nice.  One of the owners has even taken the time to explain what regions of India, or in some cases the Middle-East, the different dishes originate from.  One warning:  The dishes can be ordered at different levels of heat.  1 to 6 I think.  Unless your mouth and digestive system are made of steel, stay at 3 or under.

The people here are very friendly and the food delicious and very filling. I usually split a dish with someone when I go. I highly reccomend the mango Lassi drink! Unique place, and a must if you pass through the area.

My wife, her cousin, and I had the Saturday buffet lunch. The variety of selections rivaled some of our favorites in Chicagoland. The flavors were all quite good. The mango chutney appeared to have been "home" made, with firmer and tarter fruit than one usually finds, and a spicing somewhat different from what one generally finds in the jar. It's now one of our favorites when we are in the area.

Even though this is pretty much the only choice for Indian food in Terre Haute, it is some of the freshest, tastiest, and best prepared Indian food I've EVER had!  I've lived other places that were dense in choices for Indian food and none of them compared to the quality and flavors I found here.  My favorite dish is the Chicken Kadai prepared around a spiciness of 2 (I don't like my Indian food so hot that I can't taste it!)  The Naan has always been freshly prepared and the basmati rice perfectly cooked.  The service is usually very attentive and good at keeping your drinks full.  If you're new to Indian food and not sure what to get, visit them on the weekend for lunch/bruch buffet so you can sample the food and find something you like.
