I love mexican food but OMG I had never had food so nasty like this.
I had a taco de asada which was horrible no flavor on the 1/2 an ounce of meat they gave me. I also had a chicharon gordita which tasted like the chicharon was boiled in water instead of salsa. It was soggy and flavor less. My husband had a quesadilla and the only good part about it was the cheese. And for the drink we had Agua de horchata it was so nasty it tasted like they added water and milked to make more.
Let's not talk about the bathroom it was disgusting they were all wet the flush handle was liking there was not napkins or hand dryer floor was full of wet paper.
And to top it up they don't take credit or debit cards. Over all it was a horrible experience I would never recommend this place to anybody.
I've eaten here twice once having the chicken enchiladas w/mole sauce the second time the asada taco.
I was disappointed in my first visit as the enchiladas were more bland then yum and found the rice and beans less then yum and did not have Taqueria La Kermes high on my list for another visit.
However on Labor Day I found the folks at Taqueria El Milagro were not laboring but instead closed  so I decide to give Taqueria La Kermes another try.
The chips and salsa did not interest me and I was wanting to try the tacos al pastor but was informed they were out so decided on the asada tacos and was quite pleased.
The service was good and the overall ambiance was so so but I'm not as big on ambiance as I am food, service and price and the latter was quite resonable. A private lot is a big plus especially in the city and even more so in the city's Little Village neighborhood where street parking is more rare then a Republican alderman.
My second visit has notched up Taqueria La Kernes up in good places to eat at in the Little Village and look forward actaully to try the tacos al pastor
I love this place!!!!! One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. I only had a few things to try here, but everything I tried was delicious!
First off, the place has A LOT of seating, all of it booth seating, so it was very comfortable.
Second, service was really good. They have A LOT of servers here so the food comes out fast.
Third, their kitchen is really BIG and looked really clean (at least from where I was sitting). This is awesome because I knew my food would be fresh and clean.
Fourth, free parking in their private lot. Does it get better than this? Free parking in Chicago is always a major plus!
Now on to the food.....I had the beef tongue taco. The meat was very tender and delicious! Other people in the group ordered the asada (beef) and the pollo (chicken). Â They ran out of pork so that kinda sucked. Â Each taco was only $1.50!!!! What a steal!!!! The food also came with complimentary guacamole which was SOOOOOOOOOO CREAMY AND DELICIOUS! I am definitely coming back here!
