Love the food! I have been going there ever since I was in middle school. I kind of grew up with the place. My family has known the owners for a long time, and I love when the owner knows my exact order every time I come in. The employees make you feel well at home and give very generous portions of food. Being a long time customer, I'm so happy they finally go credit card machines and I don't even mind the extra fee. Honestly, when you are paying around eight dollars for a dinner plate that can feed two people comfortably, an extra couple cents is not going to kill you. I have never had a problem with this place before. It's been through a lot, but the food and people have not changed. Next time you go in, ask for a medium size combo and try the green beans on top of white rice with extra sauce. (Only $5 might I add XD) Will be coming back soon! ;)
Review Source:Wow, I am really shocked at the good reviews for Taste of China!
I came here to get take out for dinner, and even though the food was on hot serving trays, I was here for literally 30 MINUTES just waiting for my food. They ran out of Pepper Beef, and when I ordered it, I really wish they would have told me about how ridiculously long the wait would be. I would have ordered something else.
I ordered two meals (fried rice + chow mein + 2 sides), and asked for Spicy Orange Chicken and Pepper Beef for both, but only one plate had Spicy Orange Chicken, the other had regular Orange Chicken. The Spicy Orange Chicken was good, but the regular Orange Chicken lacked a bit of flavor, and the Pepper Beef was way too soggy. Definitely not a 4 star establishment like Yelp is suggesting!
Being from the bay area, I was really excited to find a place that served milk tea in San Clemente, so I ordered the milk tea boba. I was given a slushie type of milk tea.
Ugh, so disappointed and I will not come back!
Sorry to be rude, but this is a poor excuse for a Chinese food establishment. Â It just wasn't good, and I just kept eating because it was edible and I was starving. Â Prices were cheap and they also serve boba. Â The employees were nice, though. Â I wanted beef and broccoli to go with my chow mein, but the entree was running short, so they made a whole new batch just so I can have fresh food. Â Very nice, but I wouldn't return.
Review Source:The view is nice and the people who work here are friendly. The food is pretty average though and there is a litany of little things that are annoying. They charge an extra fee for using a credit or debit card (probably against the rules of their merchant agreement) and they charge for refills. Such nickel-and-diming gets annoying.
Review Source:This is by far our favorite Chinese in the area!! Being from the East Coast we have pretty amazing Chinese (that delivers!!) and we searched everywhere and some how by accident stumbled upon this little gem. The spicy chicken is amazing, every single time as well as the chow mein. Pretty much everything they make is amazing and we have tried it all! The family that owns/works this place are the definition of sweet and courteous, even the younger girls are always so polite! If you're in the mood for some delicious food for the right price, this is your best bet! Two things that would make this place even better would be to accept cards (because I am lazy and hate taking cash out) and to deliver!! A girl can dream, right?!
Review Source:Great food for the price. My boyfriend and I both got full for less than $9.
We got:
-Spicy orange chicken was amazing!
-pepper chicken was well.. Peppery. Perhaps a little too much.
-noodles and fried rice -HELL YES!
The decor was my favorite part. I guess it used to be a hotdog place? They still have hotdog paintings all over the walls, along with some old christmas decor, a few paper Chinese umbrellas and a Chinese painting or two. So hilarious. I loved it.
Actually, the best part was that they played I LOVE LUCY on the television and the little lady behind the counter was cracking up the whole time. I really do love Lucy and love when anyone else can appreciate her comedic stylings.
A++
Thank you nice lady.
Ps. Please get steamed buns. :)

You think Panda Express is awesome? Is Pick Up Stix great? P.F Changs for the win?? Well let me tell you, The Taste of China puts all if those places to shame! The food here is amazing. One taste of the Spicy Orange Chicken will send your taste buds on a trip to Beijing and back! They have a whole variety of dishes to satisfy your pallet. All at a very affordable and reasonable price, especially in this economy. Don't let this small little shop fool you! It might not look like much on the outside but believe me, inside there's one of the hidden treasures of San Clemente.
It's not hard to find a place that has great food, but excellent service as well? The ladies that work here are very polite and they care about you. I'm tired of going into a fast food joint and having a server just give you that attitude like "F my life, I hate my job". The people here treat you like friends and family. A very warm feeling that I appreciate. Oh I almost forgot...the BOBA! it's difficult to find a place that makes the perfect boba pearls. If you aren't really a fan of boba I suggest the snow option. Nothing better than a blueberry snow quenching your thirst on a hot summer day!
I lose a ton of bets, so when i have to treat my friends. The Taste of China is on top of my list, Â all of them agree its a great place to get your fill.
Do yourself a favor and give this place a try, you won't be disappointed!!!!
I'd give this place a 3.5 if Yelp would let me... But anyway.
Is this the best Chinese food ever? No. Â Is it an insanely better alternative to the Panda Express all the way over on Pico? Yes!
The sign out in front of this place used to be a hotdog. Â And that is why I had never been in there for the first 5 years I ferquented San Clemente. Â Hotdogs are NOT Chinese food. Â The sign is still hotdog-shaped, but not at least they've added pictures of Chinese food.
Boyfriend FORCED me to come here after my awful boba experience at San Clemente Yogurt, Tea, Coffee, and Juice. Â The girl behind the counter assured me they had boba and no, it didn't taste like nailpolish. Â Since she was so sweet, I also ordered some spicy orange chicken and chow mein.
Then the craziest thing happened. Â Instead of scooping my chicken and noodles from the trays on the counter infront of her, the girl said something to this little old man in the kitchen and I saw him MAKE my food! Â I almost fell out of my chair.
So how did it taste, you ask? Â Eh. Â The boba was blended, sort of like a frappuccino, but it tasted decent and the boba pearls were chewy, but not mushy, perfect texture. Â The spicy orange chicken was good, but not as spicy as I expected, and not fabulous. Â Sadly, the noodles and fried rice were not as flavorful as I expected and really more greasy than necessary.
The whole thing-boba, chicken, two sides-cost less than $8. Â Take that, Panda Express! Â Overall, a good spot for your Chinese craving when you're tired of all those burritos....
If you are looking for a Chinese food place where you can get a good amount of food for $6 and skip the heartburn than this is your place.
If you get a three entree platter you are guaranteed to have enough to each for lunch two days in a row (unless you're willing to risk 3-day old Chinese).
While the food is a bit greasy and the restaurant could use a visit for Mr. Clean, but if you're willing to overlook the small imperfections for some great food on the go then this spot is a gem.
I don't know how good it is for your organs but my taste buds don't mind. It isn't the best Chinese food I have had by-far but it's a great pit stop none the less.
Be on the lookout for a hotdog shaped sign with images of Chinese food. Sometimes it's better to reinvent than replace!
