***Review based strictly on the bar***
My wife and I stopped in here for happy hour before going out to dinner one night. Â We did not try any of the food. Â The bar area kind of gives off a 50's diner vibe to me. Â We were able to grab a couple of stools even though the place was pretty packed. Â It's a solid happy hour - I believe 1/2 price beers and maybe even drinks. Â I was drinking $2.50 Yuenglings and they even had some local microbrews on tap, like Belfast Lobster Ale. Â I kind of wish I had given that a try. Â I did see some people eating wings and they looked very good. Â Lots of food specials during happy hour.
No complaints from me at all on this place - the bartenders were quick and attentive and the place had a decent vibe to it. Â We were thinking about trying this place for some food during our vacation but never got around to it. Â They have a bunch of steam pots on the menu which is pretty cool for LBI. Â No parking lot so you've gotta dump the car on the street somewhere. Â I'd have no problem stopping back in here for a brewski again.
Very friendly and helpful service puts this to 4-stars for me. The food was good, not the best on LBI. I had a lobster roll with a TON of lobster and my dining partner had the crabcake sandwich, which were both very enjoyable. We started with the steamed littleneck clams; the dishes are very simply prepared which is how I like it, no frills here. Definitely recommended.
Review Source:I have literally been coming here every year since my first birthday, so I've pretty much ALWAYS loved this place. Â Maybe because they put little plastic flamingos in your drinks, and for the first 18 years of one's life (14, if you grew up in Manhattan), this is sufficient to turn any beverage into a "cocktail." Â
In my youth, I would sit at the bar with my parents, conning my college fund from drunk, sunburned adults who were willing to bet I couldn't hang a spoon off my nose for more than 10 seconds (I could, and that money was well-spent on 1/10000 of a very good education). Â In recent years, I've come to appreciate not only their cocktails that actually contain alcohol, but also the attractiveness of the bartenders (mostly male, but also female) who serve them. Â The food is still great, the happy hour (3 - 6 pm) provides something for everyone, and I've never seen anyone grinding on anyone in this place. Â Thumbs up all around!
Friendly and attentive service (even when the place was bumpin' on a Friday night) with a quick food turnaround. Â
For my "Hey World, I'm On Vacation!" drink, I went with the watermelon mojito, since it was listed as their specialty. Â I was expecting a fresh watermelon-based drink but instead got a WAY too sugary impostor. Â Definitely a disappointment since it was in the $10 price range and not even made with fresh watermelon. Â Boo.
I went with the mahi mahi wrap for dinner, which was GIGANTIC and stuffed with tons of mahi. Â I found the mahi to be a bit dry but still tasty. Â My guy went for the crab cakes as his dinner, which were jam packed with crab and NOT deep-fried.
For dessert, we went with the key lime pie. Â Since the restaurant has a very Keys-esque vibe, we figured it would be a slam dunk slice. Â It was good, but I could tell that it came out of a box from a Costo-type of place by its appearance, not made in-house or locally.
I'd definitely come back here but would order differently next time.
Family dinner sitting outside. Â Kids had burgers, chicken sandwich. Â Nicely sized, looked very good. Â Mom/dad had one of the seafood pot specials. Â A disappointment. Â Clams overcooked to rubber band status; mussels were minuscule. Â Shrimp were tasteless and overcooked. Â Lobster tail - you got it - over cooked. Â The bill was very high but that seems to pass for acceptable merchant behavior in these parts. Â There are much better places to eat down here. Â Don't waste your time at this one.
Review Source:Know for some of the best seafood on lbi we were excited to eat here- yelp had wrong address on maps. It's 13201 lb blvd beach haven terrace. It was good, not the best I've ever eaten. Service was super friendly -I find that mostly on lbi. It is not byob which most places are and they make killer drinks! Had a local feel and makes even the weekender feel welcomed. Wouldn't go back as two other places for seafood that blew it away, but did enjoy!
Review Source:Food was not great but not terrible. I had the oysters on the half shell (tiny, so disappointing), wings (which had a weird non buffalo sauce), and a burger. We were packed in like sardines, which made our experience all the more uncomfortable. This place gets crazy busy and though our waitress and the bartenders were pleasant they really try and turnover the tables as fast as possible. Â I could see sitting at the bar, drinking one of their large signature cocktails and maybe eating some steamers, but I wouldn't recommend just dining there.Long Beach Island is really lacking in the good food category, unfortunately the Terrace Tavern doesn't really separate itself from the pack
Review Source:We went off season, specifically for the crab bisque- GOOD GOD that was amazing. Â The lobster roll was big, loaded with lobster, and $15. Â Worth it. Â My fiancee ordered the fried buffalo calamari and only ate one bite- MOST of the time, when you order buffalo calamari in restaurants, you get BUFFALO calamari, not teriyaki or barbecue sauce. Â Highly disappointing- unless she failed to read menu properly- then it's our fault.
When we need another dose of crab bisque, we'll trek the 2.5 hours back to Terrace Tavern. Â Maybe the steam pots are on deck.
I LOVED the Terrace! Their Steam Pots are out of this world and definitely worth the money.
The bartenders are nice and you can have great conversations with them. Ask Tom for the "Hulk" (his special concoction!).
The waitresses are friendly and polite and always make you feel welcome.
Parking: There is parking in front of the building on the street, or just go up one of the side streets for parking.
P.S. I read Julie E's review and I think it was stupid. She sat a 20 year old boy at the bar which is ILLEGAL and the Terrace could have got fined for it. And then self-sat themselves at a table instead of going to the host's stand and being seated which is right there next to the door! There isn't self seating at most restaurants on LBI, why would this one be? No wonder you felt unwanted!
Not cool. I just went in with a party of three adults and one 20 year old (my brother) and sat at the bar for some happy hour drinks. Two beers were ordered and poured, and my brother ordered a Sprite. He was asked for ID, at which point we were told that you had to be 21 to even sit at the bar. We politely paid our tab and moved to a table. About 10 minutes later, we were rudely informed that we could not sit at a table. I'm sorry, didn't you just kick us over here? They left us alone for a bit, but within 15 minutes were (again rudely) asked to leave. As paying customers, we should not have been kicked around and then out. At each point, they were rude and inconsiderate, just because one out of four was less than 21. We felt entirely unwelcome. Â Lesson learned. Won't go there again, thanks.
Review Source:I love the Terrace Tavern. It may or not be partially due to the flamingo swizzle sticks that go in every drink ...
I was here on Friday, June 4. I had the New England clam chowder (to die for) and the crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was mostly filler despite saying lump on the menu. This is a pet peeve of mine but seems to happen everywhere. It happened to me twice this weekend alone. But the fries were good and I got to watch the Phillies game for a bit ... which is good and bad this season. Anyway ... my fiance got the fish tacos and said they were excellent.
All in all a great place for late night drinks to watch the game or a casual lunch/dinner. Friendly people and no pretenses.
One of my pet peeves is when people randomly scream in bars - WOOOOHOOOO! Â I cannot begin to explain how much this irritates me. Â Well, it seems every time I go into the Terrace Tavern, this is going on. Â And on my latest visit, people were playing quarters and other random drinking games at their tables. Â What is this, a frat house?
I've never eaten here, or maybe I have but I don't remember. Â But I hear their burgers are amazing. Â I think the only time I'll venture back to the Terrace is during lunch or dinner hours. Â After hours is too irritating.
