This is a surprisingly comfortable place to hang out - the crowd tends to be middle aged blue collar, they all seem to know each other and the bartenders and everyone has lots of fun with lots of banter. Â They have always been friendly to me even though I don't quite fit in and am definitely not a regular. Â It has been called a dive bar, but it is really better than that. Â It is well kept up, has plenty of tables, pool table, darts, - I would just say it isn't anything fancy.
I haven't quite figured out the bikini bar aspect of it, it is a bit hit or miss, though the bartenders are all cuties so far. Â It seems to be a bit more revealing at happy hour then lunch. Â Was there for Sunday Football - This is apparently THE Buffalo Bills Bar in Albany - and the bartender was wearing a football shirt tied up - so no bikini at all.
The food is quite good - at least the burgers. Â Good selection of beer with a Brooklyn, Sam Oktoberfest, and all the american lagers. Â Good beer specials. Â I have been told that Thursday happy hour is the time, with free pizza and 3 girls on duty.
Thatchers is the bomb! The dirty bomb but still bombastic none the less.
It's a bikini bar where you can see a lot more. If you come on Thursdays they have all you can eat Pizza for $5 a person. That's a deal. They always have pitcher and draft specials so pull up a seat it's lunch time for the boys. Most of the food is surprisingly good it's pub grub but it's priced right and made well.
Let's not joke though, this place isn't about the surprisingly good food(that means it still isn't great) it's about the women. Waitresses and bartenders in tiny bikinis at your service. Be sure to play "b-ball" or "dollar motorboat". Just take out a dollar bill and ask your waitress/bartender about it...I've mostly been here for lunch but I've come for happy hour twice too. Always a good time if you're out with a bunch of your buddies.
The crowd is mixed but it's mostly middle aged men. There's not much ambiance and the place is a rundown hole. It's beat up looking, old and hidden on a tiny back street off Broadway. A jukebox often blares Metallica, Poison, Motley Crew, or other 80s hair band music. Cons you say? Nay, this is Thatchers special charm. Oh yea, that and the girls. Also, they do have some flat screens for catching sports center or the game.
BOTTOM LINE: This place is strictly for you and your buddies. This is not the place for your mom, you don't wanna bring your girlfriend here, basically if you aren't a guy or you don't enjoy T&A, don't come here.
Dive bar with cheap beer, halfway decent beer selection, and little cuties behind the bar. Â Tucked away in an industrial neighborhood off Broadway, I think it's safe to say you won't find another place quite like this in Albany. Â Came here from a nearby party for some late-night drinking and were pleasantly surprised, but I'd like to come back another time to give it another go. Â A little earlier and with a little less booze in us to begin. Â Didn't try the food but I don't know that I would.
Ian's review really hits the nail on the head; people aren't coming for the food, more the cheap drinks and bartending hotties. Â A return visit might just bump up the stars by one now that I know what to expect. Â Check it out for yourself.
