It should be known that I tend to, as a Chicagoan, judge very harshly everything downstate of my fair city. I come to Peoria expecting to hate it, and, with little exception, I do. Â But it should also be known that I am back at thirty thirty coffee for the second time today. I'm not sure I've ever visited the same cafe twice in one day ever in my life. Â Such is the nature of their homemade signature syrup, the molasses ginger!!! Â I've had the latte both iced and hot and I'm still a little bowled over by the intensity of my feelings of adoration. Â This place has a great ambiance and interior, nice downtown location, blah blah blah... It's all about the syrup, baby. Â They also do the classic drinks and a lot of pour-overs, it's 'that' mind of coffee place which sort of makes me feel guilty for ordering a flavored latte. Â But, when I heard they make their own syrups and i heard the words ginger molasses, it was a done deal. A lot of people are ordering the miel latte as well, if I can ever tear myself away from this molassesy, gingery heaven I look forward to trying it. Â Free parking right outside.
Review Source:Good place to meet up with friends and gets quite busy throughout the
That is a good sign that this place serves decent coffee! I think that the drinks here are better than a comparable chain establishment.
My rating is based on my experience of sitting here for two hours and the 12oz latte. Overall, the staff are super friendly and not bring from Peoria...visiting here would be a safe bet.
Cheers!
The owners of this coffee establishment have brought world-class coffee to Central Illinois. Not only that, but they have hopefully begun an invigoration of what was otherwise a very neglected part of Downtown Peoria.
When I say world-class coffee, I literally mean that it stands shoulder-to-shoulder with some of the best coffee beans on the planet. They crafted an espresso blend that scored 94 on Coffee Review (I think less than 200 coffees EVER have accomplished this feat), and their Ethiopian Hachira single source coffee scored a 94 as well. Their micro-batch roasting process yields fantastic product, and given that they are only a year old, they have nowhere else to go but upwards.
But putting all metrics and such aside, I absolutely love 3030's coffee. I especially love their African roasts and I have told them this many times. If I'm not ordering coffee, I usually get their Signature Latte, which contains that espresso blend I mentioned, as well as a mix of spices to give it that unique 3030 flavor. I can literally taste it as I write and it makes me crave my fix!
If you haven't tried this place yet I strongly suggest you swing by. A drip cup or latte costs less than other major commercial establishments in town, you just won't have the convenience of a drive-thru...if that's your thing. They have a more traditional approach to customer service ;-)
My Americano is possibly the best Americano i have ever drank! The location is fantastic- the architecture is retro-hip.
Brick interior walls makes one cozy and want to linger. Whiny rock/alternative music gets annoying after a while- a very short while.
Eclectic and diverse customers all working away. Homework on apples, and apples, and apples make you wonder if this is the Peoria farmers market but no- just coffee and pastries.
Bathrooms are clean, and spacious. Floor to ceiling windows make Thirty-Thirty appear spatially larger than it is, and probably brings in good natural lighting during the day. Borderline bitchy baristas don't salute you back when you say hello- but the coffee makes their attitude passable.
Pure, unadulterated, coffee.
The baristas are so knowledgeable and friendly. During my first visit I wasn't entirely sure where to begin and they were eager to guide me on my java journey. The result was a Pour Over with a Miel chaser. Both were extraordinary. Â The amazing coffee paired with the eclectic space makes for the perfect coffee shop experience!
Well done Thirty-Thirty!
Thirty-Thirty is hands down, THE best coffee I've had anywhere. Â Period. Finito.
This space is beautiful, located in a historic building at the tip of downtown Peoria. Â Thirty-Thirty Coffee's offerings are nationally ranked! Â And their coffee is being infused into special batches of Left Hand Brewing Company's milk stout. Â How cool is that?
While coffee doesn't have the same kind of "rock star" appeal as, say, beer does, Ty and company definitely know their craft. Â I remember when he worked at a different place on the NW side of town, he'd always talk about the art of coffee roasting, and how it made all the difference. Â What I perceived to be coffee nerdery before, is now clearly a passion he's had all along, and it shows in the work. Â
The staff is hip, the place is great for gathering, and it's become a staple of downtown. Â Say hi to Minus the Bear on the way in, and prepare yourself to be blown away.
Quick read?
-Quality coffee, no matter what you get
-Fairly priced for what you get
-Staff who will remember you
If I had to sum up Thirty-Thirty, I'd say that it is precisely what a coffee shop ought to be. Good coffee, from end-to-end (whether you want pour-over, espresso drinks, or just a quick fix). I will admit that I mostly drink pour-over, so you may take that with a grain of salt.
That aside, they've got good pour-over technique, and offer a few choices of coffee beans on a daily basis (at different prices, as well). They have their own roasts, which I'd characterize as a light-to-medium roast. Comparatively, I'd put it as toastier than Intelligentsia, although they definitely have an thought-stimulating range of tastes available (the handful of ones I've tried). Not as deeply roasted as a Metropolis coffee, but nicely balanced, and distinctive enough to be a cut above standard DD or Burntbucks.
The space is open and attractively furnished, with plenty of windows and lighting. It's a popular place for medical students to study, and it can get a little packed on occasion. I'd just call it a sign of the success the place enjoys.
On that note, the success is likely to be at least partially due to the excellent staff who work there. They are attentive, friendly, and will take care of you. It is easy for a coffee place to slow down too much in the pursuit of quality (especially places with an emphasis on cup-by-cup brewing), or to sacrifice quality in the name of efficiency (again, DD or Burntbucks). Thirty-Thirty gets it right.
A pleasant surprise for me here, that's for sure. Nothing else to say but to encourage them to keep on keepin' on.
Beautiful little macchiato with a different-in-a-pleasant-way flavor (smokier?) than most espressos. Â Even got some latte art in the cup, although that means I got a little more milk than I typically prefer in a macchiato ... but we're splitting hairs here.
Distinctive espresso, trendy and comfortable atmosphere. Â Did I mention you get a little glass of seltzer water to go along with your macchiato? Â When I asked about it, they said it was intended as a palate cleanser. Â Classy move, Thirty-Thirty.
I am the first to call myself a coffee snob but something that rarely happens just happened to me when I went to Thirty-Thirty Coffee -- they out snobbed me!!! I say this very affectionately but also as a word of warning.
I entered the shop and ordered a 6oz cappuccino to-go; they told me no. No problem I thought, I'll just stay and use porcelain. I was next informed that I could get an 8oz latte to-go. Perhaps, I suggested, you could use less steamed milk and make it a 6oz latte to-go and everyone's happy. They once again said no. Puzzlement!! All I am asking for here is less milk for the same price, a short latte if you will. This is not a crazy request, in fact in the 3 independently owned coffee shops I've worked in as a barista I have accommodated that request many times. This request was against their coffee philosophy and they would not consent. Legend has it that the black bear in the entry way asked for the same thing and so shocked he became petrified in that position to which he now stands. Â Â
My friend order a small drip coffee (she did not dare order it to-go). No drip coffee after 1pm. While they do offer pour overs the cost is much greater which my friend was not aware until she paid.
On the plus side, it is a very beautiful space, well executed concept. The baristas seemed to know how to pull good espresso which is a rarity today. I really couldn't be more in love with this place except for the lack of willingness to cater to the customer. For those of you considering going here, I would recommend it but know in advance that it is more of a coffee boutique than a coffee house type atmosphere, not for the fair weather coffee drinkers.
They are a bit "coffee nazi" regarding what additions you can make to the beverage, but that's probably for the best. Their coffee is an art and they don't want people like me mucking it up by dumping 1/2 a cup of syrup and sugar in it.
I ordered an iced soy latte and it tasted delicious.
My friend had the macchiato, which is what I tried to screw up by asking for it iced, and syruped. It's basically half espresso and milk. Very strong. I probably wouldn't order it myself, but if you are an espresso enthusiast, this just might be your cup.
When you want coffee done right, this is the place to go. A great place, with a crowd of all ages. If you are lucky you can even catch live local talent performing on the weekends. If you drive by early in the morning you will probably see me with a cup of coffee walking to work at the hospital next door.
Review Source:First off, this is a super friendly bunch folks. Â Second, their coffee is freshly roasted in-house and is really out of this world. Â Take your time, because it is truly an experience. Â I always drink it in the cup which is the best. Â And of course they pre-heat the cups with hot water. Â Lots of choices in drinks. Â Super clean and classy environment.
Review Source:It's what coffee and tea should taste, smell, and look like! Â Kudos to you for knowing how to roast and make drinks the right way!
I really enjoyed the whole atmosphere and setting. Â The live music, giant life-sized black bear, physical location, fixtures and furniture pulled the whole look together. Â Plus, the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable about their products.
Thirty-Thirty Coffee, you'll be on my list of excursions from now on when I visit Peoria!
Love this place! My good friend and I came here tonight to try it out and left very satisfied! It reminds me of when coffee shops first got their popularity in the 90's...
First off, this is a true, genuine, coffee shop! The owners roast their own coffee, make their own syrups, & have very talented baristas (who make flowers on your latte like you are in Italy). I had a caffe miel w/ soy milk which was delicious! My friend had one of their coffee's..can't remember the name, but on the list says it has notes of a blueberry muffin..yum!
We sat for hours discussing life, love, and everything under the sun (this is what you do in a cool, chill, coffee shop) and felt very happy with our experience. We will be back!
Great atmosphere! Â Coffee was good, the tea was tasty. Â I don't think their large coffee size is large compared to most places so I had to have more than one cup. Â There's no refills or discount for a second cup, so that made it a lil pricey for just two coffees. Â I'll be back from time to time :)
Review Source:So this place technically hasn't had its grand opening yet, but it opened up on Monday. Â I stopped in today to check it out. Â I was very excited to see that they roast their own beans, which is starting to become a prerequisite for when I buy coffee out. Â
I ordered a French Press of Papua New Guinea Kimel. Â I also ordered a chocolate milk for my 2-year-old, which was not on the menu, but they obliged by charging me for a hot chocolate (probably too expensive for what I actually got). Â
The coffee was yummy. Â If you've never had freshly roasted beans before, I strongly recommend it. The coffee just gets a very smooth, non-bitter at all, flavor.
The atmosphere was nice, it's an old brick building with a giant taxidermy bear, holding a bag of coffee, when you walk in. Â (I saw one kid be really scared of it, walking through the door.)
I'll have to come back again to buy some coffee to take home. Â
The only downsides that I could see are 1)They do not offer a bottomless cup. Â I like to pay one price and sit for a couple hours reading a book. Â 2)It seemed to attract somewhat of a hipster crowd, which may get annoying, but it's probably too soon to tell. Â (I'm not a hipster...yeah, I know all hipsters will deny being one, but I'm not.)
Definitely worth checking out. I'm located closer to Leaves n Beans, but if I ever work downtown, this would probably be the place I would stop, because their coffee is really quality.
thirty-thirty Coffee Co. has  it all.  Delicious, high-quality coffee, an amazing atmosphere, and a staff that actually knows what they're doing and is equally friendly. It's refreshing to find a place that doesn't compromise on quality, taste and presentation just to save a buck or save time. The staff is passionate about coffee and love what they're doing and it adds to your coffee experience. If you're wanting a place to study, meet a friend or read a book and cozy up with an amazing coffee then PLEASE!! give thirty-thirty a try.
