Fun way to spend an afternoon!
I don't live near Thornwood, but I have a friend who does. I decided to grab a Groupon for burgers and beer in the hopes that we'd get together soon. My husband and I went up to visit our friend yesterday, to help with some yard work. It was way too hot for that, so when we finished up we went over to the Thornwood Ale House.
Really nice spot! They have different rooms and seem to do a lot of parties. There was a bridal shower being held in another room yesterday. We sat down in the air conditioning (there's outside seating, too, but it was too hot for that) and immediately noticed that the vibe of the place was very friendly.
Our server made some beer & ale recommendations. I chose to have the Thornwood Summer Cooler instead, a drink with vodka, elderflower liquer, mango and something else (can't remember). Mmm, delicious! Hit me a little hard, though, so I stopped at one.
The guys had burgers, one with blue cheese and guacamole, the other with bacon and guacamole. Both loved it. I had the pulled pork sandwich, with was great. Everything came with a choice of regular or sweet potato fries. I had the sweet potato and thought they were the best I ever had. I'm picky about sweet potato fries, and these were perfect. One of the guys had regular fries and we shared, and they were great, too.
We didn't have dessert. Too full, still too hot from the day's work. The TVs had the games on so we watched those and just enjoyed while we could.
Only minor complaint: music was too young. The place seems to get the middle-aged dad crowd from the area, all the suburban dads, but the music was mostly what you'd hear at a much younger club, and it was loud.
Would I go back? You bet. Next time we're visiting up there, we will do that.
Absolutely the bar you can go to every night of the week and never get bored. Â There is always a new event or game going on, and every night of the week turns into a party. Â The staff is great and the food is too. Â Bonus is the outdoor patio with the brand new couch! Â Just in time for summer!!
