Such a fun place to hang out at.  Even for a Queer girl at 40.  Everyone is so friendly.  The guys at the door who check ID's are sweet and welcoming.  I noticed it's a very eclectic group of people so come as you are!  You don't have to dress up but you can if you feel like it and it all feels comfortable.
It's a very cozy place.   I have met new people each time I've gone..So much fun to be single!

Parking lot is small and tricky to get through if you show up after 11:30.  Be prepared to find a spot around the corner and have friends walk with you to your car.

Fun place and good drink specials.  Wish they would take that fire pit out.  Its not making them any money.  The large crowds on the weekends need the space.

This bar is pretty gay.  They definitely specialize in tropical drinks tho. The two for one drinks are a great deal because I love double fisting.   The karaoke was great.  They really rocked some karaoke. The free condoms an free magazines were a lil odd. There were quite some characters there.  The lighting was real cool . I met a couple really cool people at this place

My wife and I have been here SEVERAL times as we can walk to it. We used to really like it a lot, now its just ok. On two occasions we have gone here and there is a female bartender working and she always seems more preoccupied with her friends then offering us drinks (it took her 20min to offer us a drink), there is a bartender named justin who is very friendly and accommodating, had it not been for him we would have gotten up and walked out. They have re-arranged the tiki hut seating, it is not very comfortable but the bar feels "bigger" now. The drink prices are good. The crowd is what makes us either love or hate the place though, One night the crowd is snotty and cliquish,  Then we went another night and the crowd was very pleasant, so I guess it just depends on the night. I would recommend this place to somebody who is comfortable with gay men because most the time there are guys making out and groping one another, (fine by my wife and i but makes some uncomfortable), and people that just want a couple drinks and aren't looking to make friends.

the bartenders are kinda stuck up. yet, mainly its the clientelle that has a snooty attitude. its like u gotta "fit" in to be accepted there. its not even funny, they are so cliquish and think the tiki lounge is the bar of dreams.. hhhaaaa. they need to find a way to expand the bar a little bit. my favorite and only favorite bartender there is Mikael. one of the reaons im giving this dump an extra star, that and the 2 for 1 well drink cocktails, cant beat that.. till 9. i reaaalllyyy dont like some of the bartenders here and i hate too many people that go there. why is it gross old dirty men hit on me? i dunno. avoid this bar and hit the Climax. more openly friendly there.

Stopped by the Tiki Cocktail Lounge while on a campaign trip. The place is a slice of life, tiki themed decorations, medium size interior with a patio in e front and back.

I had the 2 for 1 well drink special, the bartender Kat was great - very friendly and welcoming. A good place to stop by when in the Central Valley!

Female bartender was horrible. Andrew is awesome!  If the female bartender is working expect to wait 20 mins for a drink. GRRRR  NIce bar other then that.

The Tiki Cocktail Lounge is next to the Tropics Motel and has fared much better than its neighbor. Now a gay bar, it has managed to maintain some of its tiki appeal. There are tiki huts that look like they could easily fall apart, a small outdoor patio and tiki carvings. The black light painting, seen as cheesy, appears to add to the bar's charm. Since we had to hit the tiki road early again the next morning and had already had a couple drinks at Minnie's, Mr Kupcakes and I did not indulge in another while checking out the Tiki Cocktail Lounge. I don't really think we missed anything.

    Pros:

Music is awesome DJ is awesome I came here with a group of my former high school friends for drinks and dancing... I'd come here again for the music mixes. If you are in Modesto, looking for dancing and enjoying bay area style music, this is the place to be.

    Cons:

Its a little small place, has outside court yard... its not bad

The more I come, the more I love this place!

I broke out of my shell last night and sang the popular 90s diddy Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind. I am not able to hit the high notes but thank goodness for my back-up singer and friend, I was able to complete it.

Now I need to figure out what I am going to sing for the next karaoke night. Oh and I need to be able to hold the microphone without shaking and sing from the heart, yeah I have issues!

So I go to any place anywhere that I can find that says "Tiki" on it.  Mostly because I love the vintage 1960s tiki subculture.  I love the mai tais, tiki mugs, bamboo, Witco fountains, bongos, hula girls, Don Ho, all that stuff.

We were in Modesto for a film festival and passed the Tiki Cocktail Lounge, so I made our group stop for a quick mai tai.

I've been to a lot of tiki joints over the years.  And I've been to a handful of gay clubs.  But I've never been to a gay tiki joint.  This place was definitely that.

Inside it was pretty dim.  It wasn't terribly packed, but the crowd that was there was pretty rowdy.  They were also very friendly.  It was loud, and the music at that particular moment was like a club-house type of thing.

We all ordered mai tais.  And I'm pretty sure it was all rum with a splash of pineapple juice on top.  I love my booze, I think it was probably the only time I wasn't able to finish my drink.

There were some free condoms on our table.  I took a couple.

This is my first time here in a few months and theres a new bartender that effen sucks. Dont know her name and after today dont care. She looks 12 and has horrible service. Ive had to ask for my own refils the entire night. Wtf?? Im sure she gets paid minumum wage. Dont u want tips Beezie?! I guess not. Its a Sunday and its hella dead. Its not like shes ubber busy and forgot. She just down right blows. Go work ar forever 21 or something.  Worst service Ive ever had here. Should I throw my empty glass at ur face to get a freaggin refill??? On top of that shes being a freakin music Nazi and skipping thru the songs she doesnt like (Which customers have paid for). Nobody comes to a gay bar to listen to ur pathetic personal playlist that consists of rap and panic at the disco.

Ide be lying if I said I would never come back because the location is just a few doors down from my gf's house. This was just a very disapointing night. This place can be really fun depending in what night of the week it is and who the bartender is. Sucks that there is no consistency...

Reason # 679 Why Modesto blows...

Just moved into this area and was seriously looking for a nice place, close to home to dance and enjoy some adult beverages :) ... A friend told me about the Tiki so off we went.... Although it's a rather small place, its unbelievably quaint and cozy and the fire-pit adds such great ambiance as well as character to it..

The music was bumpin and the drinks are really affordable and as stated by others, nice and strong.. Is there even a thing as "too strong" as far as an adult beverage goes??? NEVER!!! lol..

Although I'm straight, I prefer to club in gay establishments because the people there are so friendly and open and the Tiki didn't disappoint.. The outside area is also rather spacious and covered as well for patrons such as myself who enjoy the use of tobacco...

I LOVE THIS PLACE and am heading back tomorrow night for round 2!!! :)

Tiki has never done me wrong. Granted, being called "trouble" when you walk into a bar is hilarious, but the boys behind the bar are great. Cliff is hilarious, Joe is adorable, and the drinks are STRONG. There's usually a great deal going on, some music blaring in the background, a fire going on INSIDE the bar, and the outside smoking area is nice. Best low-key bar, gay or straight, in town.

This is the first gay bar that I have ever been outed in.  And I have been to an ass-load of gay bars.  I was outed for being straight, guilty as charged.  Maybe it is because I am straight that I was charged 6 bucks for a bottle of Corona while my friends were charged 4.

Maybe it is because I went on lesbian night.

However, that being said, they had some of the best music I have had the honor of dancing to.  Seriously, who would have thought that a small gay bar in Modesto would have good music.

If you are claustrophobic this might not be the place for you. It is VERY small. The patio area is nice, but full of carbon monoxide due to all the smokers. No dance floor to speak of and the music played is hit and miss. The bartenders are very nice ( i.e.: MATT, TOM, ZEE ). And the drinks rate about an 7.5 on the scale 1-10. I LOVE the Island Theme going on, it makes the place VERY cute, again just too cramped for my taste. Location is convenient, just not much else to see or do on this stretch of McHenry Avenue in the late evenings, but definately much safer than South 9th Street area. As for the crowd, well like the music, it's hit or miss too. Normally a lot of nice people in general, not too pretentious like some of the gay bars closer to SF. Often times I find waaay too many obnoxious hetero girls making their rounds there, but hey, there are worst things in life. Overall, it's a cool little joint to hang out at if want a break from the Brave Bull.

Reminds me of a local watering hole...but for the gays and the theme is Hawaii.

The drinks are strong, the atmosphere is very friendly, it feels comfortable and safe.  The location itself is a little odd (the main strip in Modesto, surrounded by dealerships, two-bit motels and no other bar near by).  A good place to just chill with friends afterwork.

The few times a year that I'm there, I always make a point to stop by.

Defintely a hole in the wall as you could drive right by it and not notice save the big sign. Not much room inside as it is smaller and the outside seating/smoking area is very small. As noted before it is a "Gay" bar, so if you have a problem with that you'd probably won't like it. In the end the TIki is a decent place located in the middle of town with well made drinks at a decent price.

When I come home to visit my friends and family, you can count on me going to the Tiki at least 1 night.  I love this bar!!!!
Drink prices are OK, and Gus makes the stiffest drinks on McHenry.  I'm so thankful for this place, we finally have a place to go get a drink where we're actually integrated with the rest of the city, and not out in the fringes.  Very safe, quaint interior, friendly staff, good, attentive service, and usually a good mix of people, with a patio that faces McHenry for you smokers.  If they don't have it, just tell Gus and usually next time you come in he'll have it.

So, if you know me at all, you know how much I LOVE the gays, and also...if you're homosexual and offended by that statement then you are NOT included in my love, get a freakin' life/sense of humor.

But yea, this is no joke, I love everything about them, ask Gina...or Greg...oh wait, he isn't gay (don't ask me how I know-ha!  ) either way, I think they're fabulous, an this bar is freakin' fab as well.

I cam here to celebrate Angelic's bday on xmas eve and had a blast as it was our last stop, hoorah!

I got a vodka-cran here, shocker, and MINUS a star cause they freakin' gave it to me right at close apparently then wouldn't let me finish it as they kicked us out!

The Tiki also has a way cool fire pit thing inside, that I unfortch didn't get a pic of, and they have an outside heated area for smokers, if you're into that kinda thing.

So glad I made it to the Tiki FINALLY before moving.

ps- this would be in the "dive" category, but if "dive" could be chic...this would be it
