Alright, alright...So me giving them a 5-star is a BIT early, BUT, from the experience I've had so far, it was great! Â :)
Let me explain:
My boyfriend and I went there this past Sunday (07/14) to meet up with a friend of his from work for brunch. Â They ended up getting a couple of cocktails but because I had a couple of drinks the night before, I didn't have any.
I WAS disappointed to hear that they don't serve their regular menu until noon, but although I didn't get it, their breakfast buffet on Sunday looked MIGHTY tasty.
The boyfriend was REALLY impressed with the Bloody Mary's - Said it was the best one he's ever had (and he's picky about his Bloody Mary's - And with the Sunday Brunch special, they were only $4 each!
By the time we left, regular food was coming out of the kitchen and it looked WONDERFUL and smelled even better - I can't WAIT to try the Reuben here!
The bartender was wonderful, the ambience was great, though it DOES look more like a sports bar than an Irish Pub. Â
I can't wait to go back and actually try some drinks and food for myself! Â I IMAGINE the biggest downfall will be the parking.
Have been here twice...good beer selection but that's not what I go for...It's all about the weekend bloody mary...In the morning hours they do a breakfast buffet (food is pretty good according to the BF, I don't eat breakfast foods, so I can't speak to the buffet personally)...but the Bloody mary's are amazing!! and super cheap...on the weekends they have a special on them...The BF and I each had 2 bloody marys and he had the buffet ($10), and left spending a mere $30 after tip! Service has been spot on each time we have gone,...I'm thinking we will definitely be back in the future
Review Source:I've been here a few times, but here is the reason I am giving it four stars:
THE REUBEN.
It's perfect. Like... maybe it exceeds perfect? I don't know. That would be hasty of me. But, I stand behind my review when I tell you that it's the best ever.
Also, they have a $10 all you can eat breakfast buffet, and who doesn't love an ALL YOU CAN EAT buffet that includes Lucky Charms?! Yeah, you read that right. Lucky Charms. Magically delicious, for real. Well done, TK.
Oh, and their bar stools swivel. I don't know why I love that, but I really and truly do.
I'm so glad we took the time to run down for a late breakfast/early lunch on this Saturday morning!
The service is always spectacular, the drinks are well priced and the food is tasty. They seem to cater to people from all walks of life.. Amazing how the mentality downtown is so different from on the hill. I want to thank the Kilt for giving me somewhere to go when I visit my family in Puyallup!
Review Source:Nice bar with a good beer selection, happy workers and the fish and chips dinner was exactly what an order of fish and chips should be. Real fish in a nice, not overpowering batter. Deep fried, and not greasy, the chips were a real treat, tasty especially when paired with the " Hoppy Bitch I.P.A. " no frills, just good food in a nice bar setting.
Review Source:Really great spot to get some grub, and watch the game on a giant TV screen.
As soon as you walk in, you can tell this is a soccer bar, tons of soccer jerseys and scarves are on the walls and ceiling. Â The seating is all high tables with bar stools, no booths or chairs with backs here.
Beer is decently priced, and the food is good (I had a sandwich)
We had a pretty good time here. The bartenders were super friendly and fast. Â The drinks were perfect! Great price and not too strong but not too weak either. Â Music comes from a jukebox but the music that was played was mostly top 40's with a little house and some rock mixed in. They have a super comfortable patio out back with tables and love seats. Â I also have to add that there was no wait for the inside bathroom and two porta potties out back as well.
Review Source:Outstanding. Really enjoyed myself despite the crap I went through to get here. We got lost from the airport to our apartment in Beacon Hill and wound up out here. I wasn't expecting much. Believe me. An irish pub? It's all about Guiness and meat and I dont like either one. Imagine my surprise that I got a GREAT drink (!!!) AND sauteed vegetable dish (made specifically for me!). They had hard apple cider on tap and they add a shot of cinnamon whiskey to it and call it an angry hoar. It was DELICIOUS. I mean DEEEEEELICIOUS!!!! I had 2!!! We really had such a good time here. Great drinks, a special made tasty meal. Oh. So, about that. When the bartender asked if I wanted to eat I said I'm a vegetarian and there's nothing on the menu for me. He said they could absolutely make me some vegetables. Cool. The chef came out shortly after and asked if I like mustard greens and kale and stuff, he had just gotten a sample from his food vendor and wanted to try them out! He brought out a very simple, yet very tasty dish of sauteed greens with onions, garlic and salt and pepper. My over all experience here was awesome. Great people. Great service. Great food. Me very very happy!
Review Source:This bar is sweet if you want to kick back and have a beer with some friends, and watch sports. I went a few months back and the server we had was really rude though. If you sit at the bar you should be good. I like going throughout the week it's a lot quieter. The place has a great atmosphere, and they do drink specials which is awesome. I would go back because the owner was super awesome. I had fun, and the outside smoking area had heaters which was cool. I wish they had a pic of the front of the buildng and the ceiling though. This place has vissual appeal for sure. Please add better pics then the one's you have posted. They don't do the bar justice.
Review Source:I'm a huge fan of this place, just the perfect spot for downtown Puyallup. Â The owners and staff are always very courteous, and always give us their time and attention. Â I've loved everything I've tried on the menu, Guinness meatballs are great, reubens and Finnians are well made sandwiches, appetizers always make me want more.
I stop here at least once a week if I can, and I always bring new clients/old business pals here for lunch.
If anything, my only complaint about TK, is their prices for food are TOO CHEAP!! They make high quality food, and everything across the board should be raised at least a dollar, and I have no problem with their liquor prices, but I want these guys to stay in business for the next 30 years of my life...
More of a modern Irish bar, wouldn't say it is very authentic. The food is very good though!
Service is so so depending on who you get. On more than one occasion a certain bartender has made eye contact with me and minutes later after many people who showed up after me she finally served me. She constantly forgets to bring menus and ignores people. Some people are much more attentive than others and are very friendly and helpful.
Gets pretty packed on Fridays and Saturdays since it is a smaller place. If you go later in the night its not so bad.
The atmosphere is really good though! Its a lot nicer inside that most of the other downtown Puyallup bars. Its about averagely priced and their pitchers are only 4 beers each which is kind of a bummer.
In general its a pretty good place to go as long as its not busy.
Oh, how inconvenient. Â I LOVED Twisted Kilt. Â
I bought an Amazon Voucher for the place last October, not realizing before I hit 'purchase' that it was a 20 minute drive away from my home in Tacoma. Â With just a few days before the voucher's expiration, I rounded up a babysitter (as the place is 21+), grabbed my husband and took the scenic route down 72nd street, and found the place. Â Seriously, we almost didn't go...the few pictures I've seen of it online do not do its charm justice, especially the exterior shots I'd seen. Â It didn't look welcoming--did we want to make the drive?
The drive was so worth it! Â Parking was a snap, there was seating available even though a baseball game was on, both the bartender and the waitress came out to greet us and told us their favorites on the menu. Â As far as the place not being "Irish-ey" enough (as a reviewer below said) - I must disagree. Â It was, in fact, authentically Irish...you know, there weren't a bunch of shamrocks and leprechauns in my face everywhere. Â Instead, it had the welcoming, easygoing feeling of a true Irish pub. Â
And great food. Â My husband had the Reuben...which he described as an 'eating adventure.' Â It was piled ridiculously high with sauerkraut and corned beef, and served on cool swirly green and white bread. Â I had the Irish Dip...delicious. Â I want to go back and try the green bean fries. Â And they offer an Iceberg Wedge salad that I'm definitely going for next time.
I noticed the back patio when I was waiting in line for the restroom...the patio was of eclectic decor (patio furniture mixed with what I *think* was a sofa?) and was packed with a group of folks drinking wine and celebrating something or other...they all came out with smiles on their faces. Â It looks like there is room for a few tables in front of TK too, once the sun comes out.
As far as the line for the restroom? Â There is only one right now, but a sign on a closet opposite the current bathroom promises that another is coming soon...under which someone has hand-written in black pen 'Hurry! Â We have to pee!'
In short, I now see future summer evenings being spent looking for a babysitter so we can visit again...so inconvenient. Â But I'm so glad. Â
We can't wait to go back!
This place is awesome, and was just what Puyallup needed.
Twisted Kilt is a classic Irish Pub with a modern flare, and is much better than all the other dive bars in downtown Puyallup. I seem to visit the Kilt at least a couple times a week, either to grab a beer with friends or to delight myself in their amazing food.
Being an established bar (that is 21+ all the time), of course their drink selection is good. They even have premium whiskey and wine if you really wanna treat yourself. And I'm a big fan of their beer selection. They have a lot of beers on tap that are hard to find elsewhere (Smithwicks being my current fave).
Where this place really shines though, is the food. I'm pretty sure they have the best burger I've ever had... the Klassic with cheddar is hard to beat. I really wanna try some of the more authentic Irish dishes, like shepherd's pie, or some of their authentic English dishes, like the bangers and mash, or the fish and chips.
The atmosphere and decor is great too. Soccer jerseys on the ceiling, with classic pub decor on the walls, and tons of HD TV's. Oh, and a TouchTunes Jukebox with a great selection!
Another thing about this place is it really seems to be all-ages friendly (above drinking age, of course). Popular with crowds from 21-60. With that said, the Kilt is almost ALWAYS packed, because it's unfortunately small, and seats about 30.
Food: DELISH!
Service: Friendly!
Atmosphere: A tad cramped but fun.
I was just here on my first visit this past weekend and I did see a big burly bouncer hanging out next to the bar. Â There was no shenanigans and I must say the pork bites are TO DIE FOR. Â Definately the hangout I've been looking for in Puyallup and I'm going back tonight, since I have a coupon I got from Fred Meyer.
Came here yesterday in the afternoon. Â Was packed with lots of mature folks, and tough to find a spot to sit, but I didn't expect anything really on St. Patty's. Â They handled it well with lots of out door seating free beer with $5 admission fee. Â Live Johnny Cash cover band and brats. Â I was really hoping for some Irish nachos, but I suppose I can waltz down again on a not so busy evening and grab some ;). Â
They have Irish Death on Tap I LOVE IT!
TK has wonderful service plus amazing food. the fish and chips are delicous and the nachos have homemade chips that are just to die for.
Being an employee of a downtown puyallup company, its nice to have a reputable authentic bar to enjoy after hours.
there is a very sophisticated yet easy going environment that is easy to enjoy and share a few beers with friends over. i definitely would recommend this bar to my clients and friends in the area.
as for the people there..a great mix of young and more 'mature' which is a nice change for my husband and i....but it is an irish bar.. you cant expect everyone to have elbows off the table and on their best behavior. shoot, thats any bar. the Twisted Kilt is a very nice bar with a welcoming environment and i enjoy every visit i make!
Popped in for a quick bite and walked out thinking this is the best kept secret in Puyallup. Exactly what a neighborhood Pub should be. Lots of TV's, good atmosphere, full bar and terrific food and did I say very friendly and efficient wait staff who offered some good recommendations. Â Loved the Reuben sliders! Good menu selection all around. Â Looking forward to trying some more items next time I go...which will be soon.
Review Source:This was our first time at the Twisted Kilt. Â We were able to park right out front which was really nice. Â I am not sure about additional parking. Â Once inside the bar/restaurant is a nice size Irish pub. Â This was a Sunday night and it was about half full (Pro bowl game). Â Very nice atmosphere and it was nice to have the large number of TVs to watch the game and other sporting event. Â We ordered the Finnian and the Reuban. The Finnian was good but the Reuben was fantastic. Â It was the best Reuben I have ever had. Â The beer was good and the service was great.
The price for the food and drink really topped things off. Â We will definitely be back with friends.
FYI For some reason the rollover rating is not working for me at the moment, ans is giving thema 5 stars - I am sure you will figure out that is not the case.
I Visited the Twisted Kilt last night, sorely disappointed at the experience after trying several times to find it not packed - hubby got home a little early from work and we hoped it would not be full yet on a Tuesday at 5.
It was not crowded at all, but apparently the downtown Puyallup drunk (from the comments before mine it seems he has some investment in the place) already had a head start on the night. Â
The sandwich we had was Ok, but really we did not enjoy it, during our wait the Ahole drunk was looking for trouble, flipping passerby off and running out the door into the street and screaming at an elderly couple to get into the place, then being chased down presumably by the real owner who gives a crap, then smirking between verging on the edge of passing out.
No matter how good the food is, or how geat the waitressess are, they are going to have to come to a fast realization NO one wants to eat with one hand in a fist ready to take someone down if needed.
I know we wished we had gone to Crockett's, which we had been to three times, in the last 2 weeks, 2x when Twisted Kilt was packed. and we wish had gone last night, it would have been a great evening.
Interesting thing is, I stoppped at store store downtown today, got to talking about how nice Puyallup is shaping up, and then I mentioned my experience here, and the owner of the store mentioned she had never been to your place, but that she had heard a lot about a guy who is drunk at that bar......Too sad one idiot is screwing up what could be a good thing. Â Sounds like total "Mama's boy" behavior, just very sad.
The menu size is small but packs a punch. The onion rings have a heavy english batter with good flavor. Buffalo wings have good flavor but the blue cheese is chunky mmmm. I had the bangers and mash which was as good as any I had in England but the mash could have been hotter. My lunch mate had the ruben and was lovin it and I only got a nibble, damn jew. Good Guiness on tap, dining in water cups could have been bigger for less refills. Overall loved it and cannot wait to bring my family and friends.
Review Source:This is exactly what Puyallup needed. A fantastic Irish pub with all the trimmings. Food is second to none and the service comes with a smile everytime. Awesome selection of brews from across the globe and a good tap too. Decor is great, and location is in the perfectly situated in beautiful downtown Puyallup. (You can leave at night and not get mugged.)
Breakfast is also great. Had the Corned beef hash $10 and had to get a to go plate. This is the only breakfast worth reheating. Fantastic!
I read through some of the reviews here and fully agree with Sweetie P.
This place has a ton of pontential. Â The food is pretty damn good. Â The beer selection is respectuf. Â Service is good.
However, the place is turning into a place for drunk A-holes.
This last Saturday night, 11-5, another fight broke out. Â This was after an overserved drunk axx threw up all over the couch then all over the sidewalk.
This place has a ton of potential and I very, very much want it to succeed. Â Hell, its walking distance from my house! Â But, I'm a 40yo guy who wants to go have a beer and some food w/o an axxhole puking next to me.
From what I understand, the staff on Fri and Sat nights are in over their heads trying to keep up with orders etc. Â The young women aren't really in a position to act as bouncers.
Owner(s): Â here's my suggestion: Â On Fri and Sat nights, hire an off-duty cop to sit right outside. Â It will send the message that you're not gonna put up with any sh*t. Â Of, if you don't wanna do that, hire some muscle headed dude to check ID's and keep order. Â You should probably hire the cop for a few months and follow that up with the bouncer...forever.
If someone comes in there and starts something...BOOT THEM ... FOREVER.
If you continue to allow this junk to happen, normal, middle aged people like myself wont come in anymore and you'll be left with the rif raf.
Cheers!
Pretty nice little spot. Â The place is setup and decorated well. Â Good selection on tap, and out of the bottle. Â Pretty friendly staff the last 2 times I've been in, really interesting menu, great prices, and really good pub food. Â
Could be a 5 star pub, but there is 1 toilet for everyone to share, guys and girls. Â And it happens to be right next to the ice machine and kitchen, which isn't ideal.
Fix that, and this one is right up there with the soccer pubs I've been frequenting for years.
I just had lunch at the Twisted Kilt and went with a bunch of co-workers for lunch. Â The ambiance was nice and the decor was pretty good too. Â My friend ordered the Finnian (sp?) -- she said it was good but wished the coleslaw was on the side instead of in the sandwich, my other friend ordered the Irish Meatballs -- he said that they were delicious. Â His plate was CLEAN, so it must have been good. Â There were only three meatballs but they were a really good size. Â My boss and other co-worker each had a burger with the fried egg on top -- they said it was one of the best burgers they ever had. Â I had the KIlt Classic burger with no mayo but asked for the fried egg (which they forgot) and I have to agree...it was cooked a little more than medium (per my request) and it was soooooooo good. Â Last but not least, my last co-worker had the Chef salad -- he said it was good but they forgot to put an egg on it.
So...the food overall was pretty darn good. Â The bartender was really nice but the wait was painfully long. Â We probably waited about 40 minutes for our food. Â They gave us the chef salad for free (which was really nice and we didn't even ask for them to do that) but the salad came out last! Â They refilled our sodas but we probably could have used one more refill.
They automatically included tip which should have been told BEFOREHAND or included on their menu. Â Today's service (mostly time waiting for food) was not what I would call great. Â In fact, it was down right painful. Â However, the food was DELICIOUS and the bartender did check on us occasionally. Â I will have to go back to see if today's visit was a fluke. Â Hopefully the food will taste just as good as it did today on my next visit.
Not too much room but it was fine for our group of 6. Â Did I mention the food was good? Â :-)
It's certainly no Doyles but its got Paddy Coynes beat. The meat/potatoe ratio on the Shepards Pie was way off. Too much potatoe. The taste was just OK but it was filling (cuz of the potatoe). Skip the meatballs. Minus 1/2 star b-cuz they were out of Smithwicks (a travesty).
The Irish Dip's corned beef was great but it needed a heartier roll. The hoagie roll got soggy in the powdered, tastless Au Jus. Saw a burger come out that looked awesome. I'm kicking my own ass b-cuz the chalkboard said they had 2fer1 burgers at lunch and I had already finished my meal when I saw that burger.
Was finally able to swing in and grab a drink. Happened to be a Saturday night and was actually able to find a table to sit at. I don't drink beer to much, but the lady pouring drinks told me they had 3 ciders available. I told her to surprise me. My friend joining me for the night had something from the tap, a blue moon if I remember right.
Crowd was a mix of old and young, which was nice. Was soccer and baseball on the TV. The Mariners were playing the Red Sox and there were a few Boston fans in the crowd this night and they sure wouldn't let you forget anytime something happened on the TV.
Overall a fun place. Really need to get that second bathroom installed, the Honey Bucket outside just isn't fun, especially when you're a little tipsy. I'll totally come back to this place.
Welcome to Puyallup!
Had a great time at the Twisted Kilt. Â Went there during the Sounders vs ManU match, loved the environment from the Sounders fans. Â The food was good, our server (Kathy) was sooo busy, but she did a wonderful job trying to serve us and all the others.
I do have to say the seating is very limited.  If you live  or ever been to Puyallup then you know of Bumpys.  The Twisted kilt is about the same size and very similar in it's layout.
But It's nice to finally have a nice bar in downtown Puyallup. Â For years it's only been dive bars. Â
They have a great beer selection. Â They have anything from Bud Light to Smithwicks. Â I had Smithwicks for sure. Â Great Ale and would recommend it to anyone.
If your ever in downtown Puyallup shoot on over to the Twisted Kilt, and have a good beer.
Oh before I forget...... I saw the owner of the bar there, and I was very impressed with the fact the he was out there with everyone else cleaning up dirty cups, getting food to customers, and not afraid to get a little dirty. Â Good for him, its rare to see these days, a boss who actually cares that much for his employees and his establishment, and most of all the customer.
Stopped in the first time this last Saturday, and I have to say, I was impressed. Puyallup has really been needing something new downtown and I think we finally got what we were all waiting for. Small, but intimate setting (seating maybe 50 inside and an additional 20 on their outdoor patio - which is awesome) Decor is done perfectly to create that local neighborhood pub feel. There wasn't a game when we were there, but I imagine the atmosphere to be incredibly fun when there is one. we didn't eat, just drinks but the prices were very reasonable...hoping those aren't the "we just opened and haven't balanced our budget yet" rates. $12 pitcher of micro, $1 jello shots - pretty good deals. I'll definitely be back :)
