Recently stopped in at Tobacco Road for a drink on a visit through town. Â Wow, this place is impressive. Â Clean modern decor, and more than enough TVs to cater to any fan's viewing needs. Â Spent time at the bar with Jerry serving us drinks. Â He was very knowledgeable about the wide selection of beers, and was happy to recommend ones that suited our palates. Â The margarita was tasty and a good value for the price. Â Our bartender also suggested an appetizer, the fried green tomatoes. Â Although we hadn't intended to eat anything, he made it sound so appealing that we decided to try it out. Â This was a delicious dish with local goat cheese and tangy greens that was nicely balanced in flavors and textures. Â The menu features many inventive vegetarian options, with fresh ingredients.
Overall the staff was praiseworthy, Â providing friendly and efficient service. Â We enjoyed the one menu item we tried, and hope to make it back here to try others. Â The beer selection was great, reflecting a wide variety of local and regional beers as well as national favorites. Â We weren't coming in to watch a sporting event, but I can imagine that it would be a fun place to gather with friends to enjoy a game.
I've been several times now and have loved it each time. Â Awesome burgers cooked to perfection. Â Excellent menu and great quality from local sources. Â Friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. Â Prompt service. Â Cool layout, awesome bar, plenty of TVs. Â Best food I've ever had in a sports bar, hands down.
Review Source:The TV are excellent in both quality and quantity. I also really appreciate that once a game ends, they change the channel to something new. It's the worst when you go to a place like this and half the TVs are showing infomercials and sitcoms because someone is too lazy to change the channel.
I really like the food quality, especially for the price. There are a lot of options so that everyone in your party should be able to find something they will like.
I prefer to watch big games at home, but if I was going to go out, this is where I would go.
If you want a relaxed intimate lunch, Tobacco Road is where you want to go. Â The appetizer portion was perfect so we didn't have to order the main lunch course. Â We ordered Fried Green Tomato, Spicy Thai Wings and Sliders (our pick: Turkey & Cheese burgers), and they were all yummy. Â Who knew Fried Green Tomato would be that good. Â Too bad I didn't get the chance to photograph the dishes.
Review Source:Beer selection is still great, service is good, however food quality is a bit disappointing now.
My burger that I ordered last night was dry, the chili that came with it was utterly unimpressive as was the flavorless coleslaw.
I also had the wings there a month or so back and for whatever reason, the wings just did not have the kick that I was looking for nor the flavor.
I have hope that they will improve, but until then, I will just stick to the beers.
I was very impressed with Tobacco Road...based on my expectations, I would give this five start and we'll definitely go back. Â Food was exceptionally good for a "sports bar". Â But this is a much nicer restaurant than a typical sports bar. Â Better food, nicer atmosphere. Â Nice patio. Â Kids eat free on Tuesdays and $2.50 pints on Tuesdays. Â We will definitely go back.
Review Source:The food here is FABULOUS, but the service was pretty terrible the night my friend and I went. We waited an incredibly long time for our food, and after it came the waitress did not check on us again until we had been done eating for about 20 minutes and had empty water glasses. It took her another 20 minutes to come back for our credit cards. Not sure if we just visited on a busy night or what. However, as I mentioned before, the food was truly excellent. They have an innovative menu that includes some Southern touches as well as some healthy additions, which I am always happy about. I also liked that most of their stuff was local (from NC). I got the turkey burger, which came on a whole wheat bun with arugula, a tomato, and some sort of lemongrass aioli. I also liked that you could choose from a variety of yummy side items...I got the sweet potato mash and would definitely get it again. My friend got the turkey cucumber sandwich, which was a very generous portion, and the rice and beans side. The prices were reasonable. I will certainly come again for the great food and will hope for better service next time.
Review Source:Wednesdays are half price wine -- that would have given 5 stars except that the bar is tiny! I arrived at 510pm after work, and there were only 2 stools left at the bar. The bar area needs to be much bigger. The first time I attempted to come, there were no tables to watch the UNC game so we left and went elsewhere. I think the food here is pretty good -- as are the happy hour deals, but the seating is quite limited. The bartenders were cute though!
Review Source:I really like Tobacco Road Sports Cafe. And this is 1 of 3 locations in the Triangle owned locally with TVs everywhere. Â If you do not get there early, there is more parking at the end of the shopping center. Â When I arrived there were 4 hostesses looking to find a table for us. Â On this visit I had the Bison burger and it was good. Â Also had the French Broad Kolsch beer. Â Very nice. Â And going down the list finally getting my third choice desert a chocolate cake after learning they were out of Key Lime Pie and the mixed berry cobbler. Â Sad, sad, sad.

This place is a great addition to the area. Food is good, drinks are strong, and the service is decent. Tons of TV's for watching what ever game you want! I was a bigger fan of this location when it first opened though because word had yet to get out about the location. Now its almost impossible to get a seat at the bar area during any peak times.
Review Source:Update: I have been here now a few times when it is less busy. Â The food is really very good. Â The facility is amazing and I cannot wait for spring when the glass garage doors can be pulled up. Â The kids enjoy the meals and the wait staff is very attentive. Â I am leaving 1 star off due to the below issue, which I am also leaving as fair warning during busy games.

Well we tried going to this restaurant with our family. It was an hour and half to two hours before the UNC/NC ST basketball game. Â Dropped my family off at the door so we could get a seat. I then parked which there is ample parking down in the lots. When I got to the restaurant after 10 minutes of parking and walking my wife and 3 kids were still in line to even see the hostess. After a few more minutes we put our name in for a table of 5 to an uncaring hostess. Â We asked how long the wait would be but they said they did not know. Ok. Understandable since it is a game night. Â In the meanwhile the line behind us to get to the hostess grew considerably.
We then sat on the benches to wait expecting to see a full house as the hostess stand made it seem that way as they were clearly overwhelmed. We then saw about 40% of the place full. There were empty tables everywhere with the wait staff standing around with noone to serve. After 10 more minutes of this we noticed many 4 top tables and parties under 5 being seated more regularly. We then asked the hostess again what the wait time will be and since we have kids if we could squeeze into a 4 top as we were very hungry and the line to get in kept steadily growing. Again the hostess seemed overwhelmed and gave us another "I dont know." Â As we asked, others waiting to be seated were voicing their frustrations on dead ears. Comments like "there are clearly more people waiting in the hostess line then seated in the restaraunt. Â Don't you have a better system of seating people."
So after 30 minutes of waiting with little hope of it, we left and had a nice dinner a few doors down. Â We saw many people make the walk to the same place. Â
Trust me, this is to hopefully better the place. If you are a sports bar then the restaurant should expect this type of demand on game nights. Your host staff is clearly overwhelmed and frustrated with the slight bit of questioning. We may try it again but clearly not on a game night.
Came here to watch the UNC/NC State game, and immediately upon entering you get a sense of what truly matters here: whatever is playing on television, presumably, the game. There are dozens of them, all lined up, flat-screened, enormous. The place is all slick and strait lines, as clean-looking as a sports bar can get, well-lit. This is totally the type of place for Type-A type people.
There is a large dining room for those who want to order a meal, smaller rooms for more private parties, and a bar area, which also has restaurant service. The bar is fully loaded with liquor and lots of taps. You won't be disappointed.
It's a little difficult to order a drink at the bar with so many people choosing to eat their meals there, however. Also, I had the feeling that the bartenders were not practiced in the art of "catching the eyes" of their customers, e.g. the uninteresting man with a mildly desperate look and a wad of cash in his hand pushing five minutes.
The manager of the bar is an incredibly nice, incredibly helpful, incredibly up front man. For instance, he'll grab you and your friends some extra chairs to watch the game, but he'll let you know that for God's sake please don't lean on the glass, and you don't feel like he's being a jerk for saying so.
The downsides of this place, for me, are personal and logistical. With regard to the former: I prefer dives. Nothing wrong with a place being too clean, it's just I prefer the type of people who enjoy dives as well. You catch my drift. With regard to the latter: it's impossible to find parking for big events. I suggest you either pool it or be prepared to tip the valet. (As I just received a super helpful message from the owner that valet parking is free for customers. Great to know! Still, I'd feel remiss in not tipping the valet, and I'd prefer not to pay for parking, but just FYI.)
I've been driving by this place for over a year, so when it finally opened I was stoked. The inside is very spacious with a HUGE bar and a million TVs. Not literally. I like the environment a lot. A couple of complaints- the service is kind of slow. You're clearly a high volume establishment, so you should be on top of it. But, they're brand new, I'll let it slide for now. Also, the food is only okay. It's hit or miss. In particular I don't like the ribs. The nachos are good in concept but poor in execution- my cheese wasn't melted past the first layer.
Review Source:Cool new location of the ever-growing Tobacco Road chain. Â While it lacks the cushy lounge chairs and massive wall of TVs that are staples at the Raleigh and Durham location, the Chapel Hill location still has a great sports bar vibe, is very spacious and offers great dining options. Â While the layout of the restaurant is a bit odd - lots of disconnected spaces - it does mean that a lot of the dining rooms are quiet, allowing you to watch the game and still talk to people at your table. Â There's still a nice bar area with tons of TVs. Â The menu is the same as the other locations, only difference I found was the "fries" in the other locations are thick potato wedges and here they were more thin-cut fries, not sure if that is an overall change or just for this location. Â Overall the service was terrific and our food came out really quickly. Â Definitely a go-to sports bar/restaurant in the Chapel Hill area.
Review Source:A strong addition to the Chapel Hill scene, best food of any sports bar in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro vicinity. Â I had frequented the Durham location regularly (I worked in the same building) so have learned their strengths and weaknesses. Â Thus, they probably got the 5 star review today because I gravitated to what I knew they did well, though my family also enjoyed their meal.
I had the bison burger, which comes with caramelized onions and goat cheese, making it a very complete meal. Â I normally like large portions and this burger was more than enough for dinner. Â The bison has a nice flavor and works very well with the onions and goat cheese. Â As a side, their sweet potato chips are great, as tasty as traditional potato chips but you can justify them as almost healthy. Â I've had the bison burger several times at the Durham location and it is great.
What really impressed me was my family's reaction to what they ordered. Â My wife had the daily special, grilled wahoo with grit cakes. Â She seemed to love it. Â My kids, finicky eaters, really enjoyed their kid's meals. Â My son ordered a hamburger and got two sliders, for some reason kids eat sliders much easier than a regular burger. Â He also loved the fries. Â My daughter had mac cheese, which she seemed to enjoy.
For dessert, my son had the flourless chocolate cake, which he loved (and at $5 was quite reasonable). Â My daughter had a banana split and it was done perfectly with some nice ice cream ($7). Â Overall, very happy there is a Tobacco Road in Chapel Hill.
