Two of my friends and I were staying In Lexington for one night and decided to spend it by checking out Two Keys for a bit of a Sunday funday (which extended into closing time). We had such a blast! I couldn't believe how packed it got on a Sunday night during the summer, when regular semester classes aren't in session at UK. The bartender was great and extremely friendly. The drinks were also super cheap! This may be because we're from Chicago but we could not get over how little we spent that night. Also, great music and the dance floor was full of people. Which is a great thing in my book!
The best part? That they sell pizza there so you don't have to wander off somewhere else for your drunk munchie fix. I managed to snag a pepperoni and jalapeno pizza - yum.
Since the bar has gone under NEW ownership many things have changed.
The pricing is modest, the drinks are plentiful, and it is absolutely packed on many Friday and Saturday nights with the 21 and up UK crowd. Live bands and big screen TV's are also part of the experience.
Parking can be a big hassle.
If you are an undergraduate, a member of a fraternity or sorority, looking for a hookup, or any combination of the aforementioned, Two Keys may be for you.
The most popular night at Two Keys is Thursday, undoubtedly for its $10 Thirsty Thursday all-you-can-drink special, a godsend for blackout drunks. Â That said, the drinks are all pretty distasteful, save for the beer.
The noise level is also quite high, considering the drunken mob of frat guys trying to impress all the squealing sorority girls. Â Two Keys gets very crowded on Thursday nights, but empties out substantially on other nights, including the weekend.
I've gone to Two Keys a few times, but each time mostly because the group decided upon it. Â Don't get me wrong, though; there's a lot of fun to be had at Two Keys, but on Thursday nights be prepared for ringing eardrums, a mostly intoxicated crowd, and impatient bouncers.
