Just had a second great meal and experience at The Underground Lounge.  We own a vacation home in Mammoth and have a list of our favorite places to visit when in town.  Lakefront was a favorite for years and we were curious to try Chef Frederick's new venture at The Underground.

What a pleasant surprise! We stopped in the other day of drinks and snacks and were pleased to have great service, outdoor dog-friendly dining, and a nice list of craft beers, wines and cocktails.  We enjoyed a delicious poke appetizer and a salad.  We stopped back in tonight originally for a glass of wine and stayed for dinner.  Our server Tess was a delight. We had the lamb shank and beef bourgeon pasta, kale salads, wines and a delicious chocolate mousse.  Chef Frederick came out to chat and told his concept was to offer good value and stretch his menu choices.  Some of our favorites from Lakefront remain on the menu with some nice additions.

We are in our 40s and completely enjoyed the music selection playing at dinner - trendy, hip, upbeat but not obnoxious and we could carry on a conversation.  Prices are in line and competitive with similar places in town.  Probably the best list of cocktails in town right now.  We had late lunch at 2pm and dinner at 7 pm so I cannot comment on the late night scene but it sounds like fun and the room is set up so you can dance or have a drink on the other side.

Nice addition to Mammoth and glad we can enjoy Chef Frederick's cuisine in a new format.  We will back, The Underground just made it on our list!

Wanted to try a new place in the village. This place looked nice and chill. Good patio seating. Waitresses were very slow, just seemed like a disorganized place. No one helped use for a long time. They didn't give us utensils until 5 min after our food arrived, each meal cam out one at a time, never got any bread but every other table did, the pizza was all dough and little tipping. They brought a glass of wine but it was more like half a glass. The "warm kale salad" was not warm at all.

THE NAME IS DECEPTIVE. It should be called BISTRO UNDERGROUND or TAVERN UNDERGROUND. The "Underground" bespeaks of a nightclub only. This is THE restaurant in Mammoth Lakes. We would not have gone except we learned that this was Chef Fredric Pierrel's new restaurant. We went on the early side to avoid the crowd. It has a very pleasing atmosphere mix of casual and classy. One look at the menu and we knew we were in the hands of Chef Frederic. The menu is good food with a bit of a flare and elegance, but it is by no means extravagant or high brow. The wine list is eclectic. Don't know what to order, ask for Chef Fredric's recommendation. Chef came out several times to chat, discuss wine, talk about his new venture. As the evening progressed, more people came to the bar and a few more tables filled. The background music (it was not a live band or DJ while we were there) was a terrific selection of rock, alternative, and pop, but always at a level that made conversation easy. The lounge really takes over later in the evening, however, Chef told us that he has had dinner going past 10:00 p.m. on occasion. The staff is young but ever so friendly and attentive. For that extra attention, go early. We are so glad Chef Frederic is back at Mammoth!

The only reason I wanted to come here was because I read the Chef Frederic had moved here from Lakefront.  Until I saw that, the name of the restaurant alone, "Underground Lounge", did not sound like a place I would want to go.  I like a comfortable atmosphere, where you can actually hear the conversation you are having.  "Underground Lounge" is a very deceptive name, and would not have attracted me as a customer.

Needless to say, Chef Frederic, once again, did not disappoint.  I had a wonderful Sea Bass with perfectly prepared green beans and a red wine recommended by Chef.  The cheese platter was limited for what I was looking for, but still very pleasant.  Warning: beware the bread.  Chef's bread is AMAZING - YOU WILL FILL UP ON IT.  Crackly, flaky outside, soft, warm inside.  As soon as the bread came out, I knew it was Chef Frederic.

As for the atmosphere inside, it is dark, with a western motif.  Western movies are playing on the flat screens.  There were maybe about 10 tables (I didn't count them), so it's quite intimate.  The music was playing in the background, loud enough to notice, not so loud that we couldn't carry on a conversation.  Wait staff were all pleasant.  Being a new restaurant and new staff, they're still working out a few kinks.  If it wasn't for Chef Frederic, I would wait until they are a bit more polished.

The food is what makes this place worth coming.  If you don't like loud, crowded places, come before 10pm (so I've heard - we didn't stay).  If that is your thing, or that's what you're looking for that particular night, still come for the food, then stay for the band.  Oh, and definitely try the Absynth - they have a really cool way of serving it.

So glad you are back Chef Frederic.  And it was so nice catching up with you again.  See you again soon.

My husband and I ate lunch here, and we were impressed with the quality and choice of the food. We ordered escargots, smoked  salmon, and naan flambé -- all of which were absolutely delicious. We noticed that they have an excellent selection of wines, beers, whiskeys, and cocktails, so we ordered some French beer to go with our lunch. The service was excellent, and Chef Frederic took the time to meet and greet us. The atmosphere is of an old west saloon, dark wood, dimmed lighting, and red velvet wallpaper -- a cool place to relax in the afternoon. Classic westerns play on the television in the lounge, which enhances the old west feel. My only suggestion would be to quietly play country-western music in the background during the day to bring in the tourists who are looking for that old west touch. After all, Mammoth was originally a mining town, and Bodie is right around the corner, yet Mammoth restaurants rarely appeal to the tourist in search of the old west.  Talk to the docent at the Hayden Cabin for more information. With that final touch, I would have given this restaurant five stars!

Ok first the only concern is the small dining area is close to the bar so it does lack a bit of intimacy . Now all the great not good great ! The food is amazing . I had the elk and my wife had the lamb shank with a shared risotto. Both 5 stars plus. The wait staff was warm friendly and made us feel very welcome . The Chef came out twice the speak with about the meal . Great dining experience , we will be back !!

My husband and I stopped here after spending a wonderful afternoon in Mammoth. Being from Bishop we are always keen to try a new place. With a couch and cold beers we were happy campers for the first 20 minutes or so. That happiness quickly dissipated after I bit into a chicken wing and found the middle of it to be completely raw-- as in pink-- as in not cooked-- as in cold (UGH!). Then to my horror, I saw that my husband had already polished off two of them. I know, I know, why didn't he notice it? Well, it was dark and maybe his weren't as raw as the one I got (one can hope).

Needless to say we were more than a little grossed out... We were also more than a little put off when we barley got so much as a 'sorry' from our server. On top of that we ended up having to pay the check (minus the wings). Add another layer, THE chef, or A chef came out of the kitchen, looked at us from afar, and then proceeded to head back in without trying to rectify anything.

All in all, we will not be going back-- ever. Not only was our mood soured and  a damper put on the day, but we will be on the lookout for signs of salmonella and other food borne illness for the next few days. YUK!!!!

Let me preface this with the fact that I haven't had a good steak at any ski town. I've tried the steak at 3 different restaurants in Mammoth Lakes and have always been disappointed. That all changed today when I tried steak at Underground Lounge.

I ordered the 16-oz Bone-In Rib eye and it was amazingly delicious. My girlfriend had the Tavern Burger and it was amazingly delicious as well.

I would definitely come back for the rib eye. Definitely the best place I've gone for dinner in Mammoth ever.

Staff was also incredibly friendly, and the bartender made us this smokey bloody Mary (I think it was called the cocky rooster or something) which was pretty damn good as well.

    5-Stars. Would return for sure.

I went here with my family on our yearly ski trip to Mammoth and it's now my new favorite restaurant in town. Let's get a few basic facts out of the way before I talk about the food. The kitchen is open from 4-9pm and has a slightly more upscale vibe. So I wouldn't recommend this place for a family with young kids looking for a quick casual bite to eat. The crowd is more of a teen to adult scene with a large bar. After 9pm it turns in to a nightclub. The staff was very friendly and attentive to all our needs. My favorite part, of course, was the menu. They have a specialty cocktail menu and an extensive wine menu. You're also able to order wine by the glass, bottle, or half bottle (which I thought to be pretty cool). We ordered several appetizers. The French Onion Soup is a must have if you love it already. We also ordered the Smoked Salmon and the Naan Bread and Hummus. Both were absolutely divine and I would highly recommend them. Both tasted really fresh and you could tell that the Hummus and the bread were homemade. For the main course my parents ordered the Filet Mignon and I ordered the Burger. There was no split plate charge, as my parents shared their dish, and the staff was very accommodating even providing each of my parents with their choice of steak sauce on the side. As for the burger, it was the most tender perfectly cooked burger I've ever had. For dessert we ordered the Creme Brulee and it was perfect as well. The whole meal was absolutely delicious and very memorable.

The best part was that Chef Frederic (he used to be the chef at the Tamarack) came out frequently to visit with us and ask us how the food was. He is super nice and easy going and loves to get to know people who are coming in and trying his food.

The only thing that needs to be added to the menu would be Chef Frederic's famous Lavender Creme Brulee!

Tried to go there Saturday dispute the negative reviews and there was a 15 dollar cover fee to get in.

After hearing about this new place, my wife and I wanted to check it out, see what's going on and order a drink.  We walked in at 2:45 p.m., (door was open) and were greeted with the most UNFRIENDLY service worker imaginable.  Not even a hello, or how are you.  Only thing he huffs out:  "We're closeed.  We open at 5!"  Is this the way to greet potential customers?  I said "we heard a lot of good things about this place and wanted to get a peek."  He totally ignored us, and walked away.   How about a "Hey, welcome.  Sorry, but we're closed, but come back later at 5 to see what we're about."  Seems like snotty Hyde just changed locales, to next door.  Being a Mammoth-owned and operated establishment, you'd think they would be more friendly.  Dave McCoy would be soooo disgusted to know that his hard-earned legacy is being lived out by snotty, rude 25-year old wanna-be hipster workers who have absolutely NO sense of customer service.

This place used to be another bar/dance joint called the dubliner I think. It wasn't that great. This joint is under the ownership of Mammoth Mountain and is a pretty nice place to go have fun here in Mammoth.

I was there last night and for a Friday night in Mammoth, well this place was a rocken. They had a dj spinning A combination of modern hip hop, club, rock n roll and a few other random songs mixed in. It definitely had a lot of people dancing. There is also a restaurant n bar for some late night eats n drinks as many clubs are multi use now, this definitely fit that kind of mold.

Pro Tip: There is no cover charge =)

Tis place is divided into basically three areas, the bar/restaurant area, the club/dance area, and the bathrooms/enterance area that divides them. They have table service available at 4-6 tables. I didn't check the far side but I think there were 3 tables on the opposite side from where I was at. They have blackout drapes all around the dance area. The one bad thing about the dance floor was that there was a 12x12 column in the middle of it! Otherwise it was a great little dance area and definitely the best one that I have seen in Mammoth. They even tossed out a bunch of nerf-like glow rods with funky pattern lights in them that added to the fun.

This was one of the most fun places here in town and I am sure that I will ago back to this one multiple times. Sorry I can't add any info on the food or drinks as I didn't get anything while here, but everyone was having a great time and my friends didn't complain about the cost of drinks or anything like that.

Finally re-opened after 2 year hiatus. Damn Schel beat me to FTR!

The Auld Dubliner closed 2 years ago, and the property has been sitting empty for sometimes. Finally this weekend, Underground had a grand opening after finally getting their liquor license from the city.

The layout has completely changed, one side is turned completely into a dance area with booths along the walls. The other side consists of a large bar with more sitting area for a more lounge-y feel. I really like that for people that want to dance, the huge dance floor is very inviting and for people who just want to talk, socialize and hookup, the bar area plays quieter music so you can carry on a conversation.

The waitresses are HAWT, dressed in corsets and short short short booty shorts. The male bartenders are all young and cute as well. Drinks are pricey but to be expected for a place like this.
