Do you like unique cocktails and a cozy atmosphere while enjoying the low key vibe of downtown Bend?
Apparently that's what does it for me too.
Went on the recommendation to Velvet one night after dinner and half expected plush seats with a baller atmosphere. Â Instead, I was pleasantly surprised to find a cabin-esque tavern with a hip edge and crafty concoctions behind the bar.
Shawn, our super attentive bartender, crafted us a sweet (but not too sweet!) blueberry cocktail with quite the edge. Please note these were FRESH blueberries that were bouncing from our glasses passed our lips into our mouths.
Quite the delish treat and surprisingly neutral flavor.
Can't wait to go back and visit on our next romp up North.
This is a sweet little bar with a cool decor, and they have ski and snowboard videos playing on loop on a flat screen. I'm not big on mixed drinks, so I can't say how their mixes are, but the beer selections are good but modest, as are the wines, and they have enough to keep you happy and hanging out for quite a while. For small plates, it's not particularly special or imaginitive, but it's decent. If you want some good local happy hour beer and tasty snacks for not a lot of money, this is a good choice for you. There are plenty of more expensive places in the neighborhood if that's your thing, but we had a nice time here.
Review Source:Nothing like this place in Central Oregon. Truly unique food and drink menus. Great atmosphere and the design of the space is perfect for casual/intimate gatherings with friends. This place could easily hold it's own in a much hipper, big-city environment - Bend is lucky to have it!
Go tonight!
So you don't really care about all of the fancy food, and nice decor, and drinks served in cool glasses. And you're not so much for bright places, either. Perhaps it's 1 am, you've had a few, and you want a dark place to chill and have a last drink while chomping some cheap eats. Welcome to Velvet! Velvet is a low budget bar/lounge, and as such is a welcome addition to Bend. No, it's not as low budget as the D. But it's also not quite as representative of the 1980's, either. Velvet is a very small, two level lounge near the corner of Wall st and Galveston. It features inexpensive drinks, and food to match, though they do have some yummy things on the menu, including brie and other evening staples. PBR's are a buck, and the couches are cushy. Servers are very friendly. When I was there they had tv's with surfing on them, which never hurts in my book. Think of it as a less yuppie version of the Downtown Martini Bar, and it's about the same size, too. Nothing special, but sometimes you just want low key and easy. And cheap helps, too.
