I just had one of the most disgusting meals of my life at Vermont Sports Grill. Nothing was fresh and everything was sooo salty. I don't think I have ever had so much salt in one meal. My friend and I ordered all different things from the menu and are both feeling horrible right now. Never eat at this place! Even the drinks were bad. Very disappointed.
Review Source:I had heard the VSG had good food so decided to check it out for an appetizer and a drink. Â Much to my disappointment, the following unfolded....food came before the drinks, the nachos were basically the worst my partner and I have ever had (who doesn't melt the cheese on nachos!)...and the salad we ordered was basically a head of iceberg lettuce with some garnish on the side. Â Needless to say, we will not be going back and will not recommend it to any friends. Â Oh yeah, when we were given the check, we weren't even given a pen! Â Come on people, BASICS!
Review Source:Had I reviewed this place 2 years ago I probably would have given it 5 stars. I have seen this place gradually decline in some areas, and I find it sad because it had been a great place to go. It's close to the airport and a great sports bar for anyone traveling or lives close to the area. It was THE place to go for a place that had tvs all over the room and trivia going before Buffalo Wild Wings opened on Shelburne Rd. I think that hurt their business, and they have been trying to make up for it since.
Tuesdays they have a comparable wing deal to BWW if you can eat a lot. All you can eat for $10. Some of the flavors are pretty cool, and I know my husband liked the buffalo blue cheese because it had crumbles of the cheese on it as well as a mixed sauce with dressing. The wings themselves are ok, but the flavors make them.
Wednesdays is my favorite night because it's dollar menu night. Who doesn't like a good deal? Sliders, sides of fries, soup, hotdogs, and sides of mac and cheese for $1. I can eat for $3 and have a beer and not feel guilty about going out.
Regular menu prices have gone up, and it's unfortunate that the options aren't as good. In the past year it seems all menu items went from having a soup or salad bar to start, with a choice of a side (fries, onion rings, potato puffs, apples etc) to only coming with soup. That was my experience a couple of months ago. This past Saturday I went in, and the side now is chips, and for an extra charge you can get fries etc. That would be fine if I wasn't already paying $10 for a burger or sandwich. It's also about $13-$15 for mac and cheese dishes. I really don't understand the new trend with places serving all different kinds of mac and cheese, but it doesn't cost so much to make that it makes sense to charge those prices.
My husband got a salad that was huge and worth the price. He recommends it and thought it was a good value. He was dissapointed they no longer had the cold dish sald that had tuna, chicken salad and others all piled together. Again... one of the ways the menu changed.
I love VSG, the staff is friendly, the prices are low, and the portions are huge. The $2 "upgrade" to French onion soup is a worthy addition to a meal. They always have some sort of daily special. My favorite dish of theirs is the "winner winner chicken dinner". It's a plate of moist and crispy fried chicken that would make Gus Fring proud.
Review Source:Right off the bat the service here was amazing. They were all friendly but not overly pushy on the upselling. The local drafts were some of Vermont's finest microbrews. The ambience in here is far better than it was when it was a Hooter's, not to mention it is now kid friendly.
Food:
I got the onion and ale soup and my wife got the split pea and ham, we were both quite satisfied. The onion soup could have stood on its own as a midday half meal so I had to go slow haha.
As for the main meal, the mashed potatoes were decent, the Cabot steak & cheese was above average (meaning I devoured it), and my wife stated that the California chicken sandwich was "good" (with a stuffed mouth).
Kiddo had no complaints.
TV's were a nice touch, after all it IS a sports grill.
Overall a great experience, I would come back. 5 stars for the experience, 4 for the food.
Also, Lauren was a great server!!
I stopped in last week with a friend of mine. Â Right off the bat, you notice that the people that work there are REALLY friendly. Â Believe me, I appreciate really wonderful customer service. Â It truly makes a difference if I'll be back or not, even if the food isn't the most amazing. Â So, A+ for terrific service! Â We just shared an appetizer (time was tight) and it was decent - not the best nachos ever (nacho cheese PLUS shredded on nachos is a little odd - I'd much rather have the shredded alone instead of the nacho cheese often available at gas stations and movie theaters). Â The beer was cold and available in large sizes on tap (bonus!). Â I'll have to try it again soon to see how the other menu items fair - I anticipate that they are fairly mainstream but good (although not the WOW factor). Â It's definitely a sports bar with sports bar food. Â So, that is expected! Â Lots of TVs for sure so if you have ADD and you are there for a serious conversation with a spouse, it would probably be best to go elsewhere! Â :)
Review Source:I never visited this place when it was hooters, but as VSG I felt like I was at a hooters, minus the waitresses. The menu is too big, when a menu is that large its almost given that the quality of food is going to lack. And that's exactly what it did. Some of the menu items got me excited, but I was disappointed. I really wanted to like this place as it seemed like it would be a cool place to go watch football, but thats about all I would return for.
I had a burger and my wife had some mac and cheese. Wasn't terrible, but I felt like I was eating at friendly's. Also had a plate of hot wings that weren't very good either... Overall very disappointing and would only return for a pat's game and some beers.
My friends and I went to VT Sports Grill a lot when they first opened. Â We loved it. Â However we have not been there a lot in the last year or so.
The quality of the food has gone down. Â I used to creave the Cabot Cheddar Cheese Steak, but not anymore. Â You used to get this great cheese sauce that put it over the edge, but now there is hardly any cheese. Â Then there are the nachos, are they using velveta now?
I would much rather pay more for the same quality food then pay the same for a lesser quality product. Â
I'd really like to give them another try, but don't want to be disappointed anymore. Â I agree with what others are saying about the TV's. Â It's great there are so many, but not so great that you can't change the channel yourself.
Vermont SportsGrill is a great place to watch the game and have some wings. Some of the best, if not THE best wings in the area. Great weekly specials. The meatloaf special is a meal for four! AYCE wings for $9.99 on Tuesdays are a great value. Dinged them for a star because they recently switched to plastic cups for drafts, otherwise this would have been a five star recommendation.
Review Source:VSG is a pretty good sports bar in a meh location. I do enjoy hanging out at this place since it sits midway between my office and my apartment. There's always a drink special, always some food specials and the crowd is very friendly.
They serve a very good brunch on Sundays, but I've only been once, so I don't think it's my place to comment on it.
From what I understand, the place used to be a Hooters, so that accounts for the huge parking lot I guess...
Pleasantly surprised. We were looking for a place to eat that was kid-friendly for a group of 11 after the Vermont Marathon and we made reservations at the Vermont Sports Grill.
Staff was friendly and attentive - table was situated right near a big screen television showing a NASCAR race. Kids enjoyed it.
Food is typical pub fare - perfectly acceptable. Beer was cold, food was hot, great place to relax and enjoy post-marathon.
A fine sports bar/pub.
Good place to sit down & watch the game. Bar area is nice & the bartenders are friendly. I like talking with Ashley & the taller Jen. The nachos are pretty good but really it's a two-person serving. Wing night is a pretty good deal. Sunday brunch is great & you can always find a seat.
Review Source:I visited there today to watch football. Â Seems simple for a sports bar.
However...
1. Â The televisions in the booths are linked together and can only be controlled by the remote that the hostess controls.
2. Â The wings. Â It doesn't matter which of the 12 flavors you select. Â The all taste like a medium buffalo.
3. Service. The waitress tried very hard but the setup was all wrong. Â I ordered an appetizer then waited about 10min to order my meal. Â Still... somehow... the both came out at the same time.
Finally. Â I will say that I have tried to like this place. Â This was my 3rd try. Â I like the locally owned and operated. Â But the place has to step it up a notch or else I don't give it much more than another year in business.
