Lunch! Sashimi special for $9.95!
This is a nice place for a quick lunch.
I was unimpressed with the size of the sashimi lunch. I substituted scallop and cooked shrimp for the tuna and salmon, and got 1 scallop, 2 shrimp (cooked not amaebi), and 2 pieces of yellowtail. For $10. There are at least 3 other sushi places in the area with bigger sashimi lunch plates that cost less per piece.
The tea was nice, $2 for a pot of green tea. The ginger dressing for the salad was really tasty too, minced ginger, sesame oil, it tasted like someone put some thought into the recipe and made it in-house.
Don't know if I'd go back, but it was a nice spot for lunch and the hostess didn't mind me bringing my laptop in to get some work done. (They have WiFi)
This is a really cute sushi bar. The 3 rolls for $10.95 is a pretty good deal averaging about $4 a roll. Although the sushi is decent it isn't amazing. This is my first sushi experience in Philly and there was more to be desired. I was surprised at how tiny each piece of sushi was and how carelessly my roll was put together. The fish is fresh but it was missing that strong flavor I love. Great  miso though that was the best I've had. Very clean. Too small for parties over 3-4. I will eat here again though.
Review Source:First time at Vic's and overall was pleased. Â My dining partner enjoyed the seafood salad and that is the main reason for the 4 stars. Â She had two rolls which were good but not overwhelmingly good. Â My edamame appetizer was not fully cooked and had no sea salt. Â When i asked if there any of the dishes were vegan, nobody seamed to know what that meant. Â Went with the holy basil tofu which had a fantastic sauce but the tofu was a bit overfried and scarce on the plate. Â Would go back but would also suggest that they certify or offer some vegan options.
Review Source:Small out of the way sushi place for me, but we'll worth the trip for the quality and price. I cant speak for the dine in service, but can tell you that seating is limited here and it doesnt seem too inviting to dine-in. Sushi is fresh, tasty, prepared to your liking (extra spicy for me please), and all done with care. Don't believe me? Watch the guys work at their art. Their 3 roll special is a good value and even their Thai menu is worth trying. My only complaint is they need to be much closer to my house so I can get my sushi fix in more often. A Groupon deal would be nice as well.
Review Source:For a non-buffet, totally worth the 3 rolls for $10.95! Â It was hard to distinguish which rolls were which as the stomach got fuller and fuller, but I generally enjoyed the dining experience from the tom yum soup to the pear sake that we had bought ourselves to accompany our meal. Â
I wish I could say that the sushi themselves beat the ones at Fat Salmon and even a buffet like Noboro. Â But although the deal was fantastic, the sushi wasn't memorable. Though I've gotta hand it to Vic Sushi for keeping good business around 19002 :-) Â Thanks!
Solid sushi tucked in a strip mall. Prices were average and the rolls I get were just fine.
Spicy Tuna roll was tasty and the Black Eel roll was well done.
Atmosphere is meh, but I don't care about that. It took a solid 10 mins after we were seated to get someone to take our order, but what can you do. We were early (11:45) so maybe they weren't ready for customers yet.
Bottom line, if I'm in Springhouse and wanting sushi, I will definitely go back.
If you have not yet tried their tuna dumplings, go do it now! Its a bit pricey at 5$ a piece but its one of those things that you have to try at least once.
One of the best sushi I've had in a long time! Volcano, Sansom, and Vic roll were all amazing.
The salmon and tuna sashimi I ordered were very fresh.
Great and friendly services.
Only downside is that its a bit pricey but the quality of the food greatly out weighs and deserves this kind of pricing!
I came here a while back with a friend. We ordered a selection of Thai dishes and sushi. The Thai dishes were tasty, but I felt the sushi was a bit lackluster and nothing special to write home about. I remember having one roll which had tuna, but appears to be out of a can and definitely not raw. If you want Thai, its a good local spot, but I'd recommend elsewhere if you're looking for high grade sushi.
Review Source:Oh my GOODNESS. I thought I had tried the best sushi in my small area, but I was so wrong. Thank you friends for introducing me to Vic's! I've heard of it for  while, but didn't understand the hype until I visited.
My two friends and I came on a Wednesday at 1:30PM and were seated immediately (we were the only ones there). I was surprised to see basically no one in the small restaurant and really was not expecting much. There was a lunch special that was 3 rolls for $10 which I was very happy about. I ordered a spicy tuna, shrimp tempura, and a mango avocado roll.
The kind waitress brought us miso soup to start with and brought out our sushi dishes a short time after that. The sushi itself was amazing. Unlike other sushi restaurants, they gave a substantial amount of fish compared to rice which is what we technically pay for! I could tell the ingredients were fresh. The mango avocado roll was new to me, but I loved it. Sweet yet still savory. If you're in the area and looking for some good sushi at a great price, I highly recommend Vic's!
I'll qualify this review with the fact that I do not eat fish (or crustaceans, mollusks, or anything that swims). Â My review will be on their vegetable sushi.
I never really ate sushi until I made some sushi-friends and was dragged to many restaurants. Â Vic's is the only place that I can go and know that I will be just as happy with my sushi as a normal fish lover would be. Â
Their oshinko roll is pickled perfection - the slices are not too thick and the taste is just delightful. Â One of those plus two sweet potato rolls make up my "usual" meal there. Â
I don't know a lot about sushi, but I hear that their 3 roll special is very reasonable. Â I am pleased with it considering the awful veggie sushi I have had at other area establishments. Â
The staff is great, but the service is spotty at times. Â If you show up on a busy night (read - completely full) you are liable to wait quite a while. Â However, if you show up at an off time the staff really treats you well. Â I think they would be well served with a bigger restaurant.
Seeing the positive reviews here for their non-sushi items, I may stray from my usual and try the pad thai soemtime.
A tiny tiny restaurant with a mix of Japanese and Thai food. But the sushi quality was excellent! Others in our party had the teriyaki and Pad Thai and these were excellent too. Hope they can enlarge their seating area because we will be coming back!
I had the Tuna Combo dinner and while the portions were not huge, the quality of the tuna and the price were very reasonable. Service was fine, although we went early. Five stars for the food, not so much for the atmosphere!
I have only tried the sushi here. Â It is pretty good compared to a lot of japanese restaurants. Â The specialty rolls are good. Â They contain an AMPLE amount of raw fish, and are VERY flavorful (maybe too flavorful, if you are the type that doesn't like a lot of sauces on your sushi). Â The 3-for $10.95 rolls are underwhelming and may not be for everyone. Â Each of these has only 1 or 2 ingredients, so you'll really taste that fishy taste. Â I like them, but like I said, they may not be good enough for everyone. Â The staff and sushi chefs are very friendly. Â Overall, I am a fan, and I will continue to come often.
Review Source:This place is in crappy strip mall in a semi-industrial area but for some reason, they have best sushi I've had in the area (including Philadelphia). Better than Blue Fin in East Norriton, better than Morimoto and Fat Salmon in Philly (Washington Square). Â It's fresh and the salmon literally melts on your tongue. Â I've been a few times and it was great each time. Â And for under $15 for lunch , it's a pretty good deal too.
I lived in NYC for a couple years and ate tons of sushi there. Â When I moved back here, most sushi tasted like soy and protein. Â This place lights up the taste buds like Gary Busey on a Tuesday night. Â If you don't believe me, try it yourself. Â If you don't agree, you're wrong. Â If you know of a better place around here, please let me know.
Although Vic has a 4.5 star rating I think most people are going a bit overboard. Â Don't get me wrong I think this place is solid 3 maybe 3.5 but not 4.5 stars. Â I would still choose Umai or Bluefin over Vic anytime. Â
I really like the diverse menu and vast selection of special rolls. Â I think this sushi place is perfect for sushi lovers that don't want to spend a ton of money. Â I say this because there generic rolls are cheap. Â The reason they are cheap is because the generic rolls are minuscule. Â It would take 2 or maybe 3 pieces of a Vic spicy tuna roll to get 1 of Umai's spicy tuna monsters.
All in all I will be back to Vic's for a quick local sushi fix.
Maybe I picked the wrong day to eat at Vic's, but my experience was just okay...nothing to write about. Â
After reading all the Yelp reviews, my expectations were sky high. Â I went there for lunch with my better half and we ordered number of rolls and Sashimi between two people. Â And we were trying to convince ourselves that it were good when they were just okay. Â
Amongst all the Japanese restaurants in the area I have tried, I have zeroed in on two Ooka and Kumo and they are both consistently great with great ambience. Â Vic with its 5 tables feels like a take out Chinese joint with just okay Sushi!!!
I had heard and read a lot of good things about Vic Sushi, so I decided to go try it for myself. Â When I walked into the restaurant I was surprised about it's size -- it's pretty small. Â They do a good job of fitting in the maximum number of tables without it feeling cramped. Â They also have a small sushi bar with a few additional seats. Â With that said, it's bright and colorful. Â
We ordered green salad with the sesame dressing. Â I love that dressing and found Vic's to be superior. Â It was a much deeper orange than some places and it had a lot of great flavors. Â Our server also brought us complimentary edamame, which was a nice touch.
We got a little overzealous when it came to ordering our sushi rolls (we like sashimi, but primarily order rolls) so the few that I'm mentioning here don't cover it totally, but our favorites were Ocean Brother, Sansom, and a special that day, avocado mango. Â While the last one lacked any fish, it was a great flavor combo and as our server recommended it, it's nice to know it was solid advice.
It was a fun casual atmosphere with great service and delicious and beautiful sushi. Â Plus a BYOB, all in the 'burbs! Â Check it out!
Holy moly! Â Super tasty.
I had the Pad se-ew with shrimp. Â It was by far one of the best Thai dishes I've ever had. Â Great mix of veggies and delicious shrimp with fresh and wide rice noodles. Â Delicious flavors and a great portion size.
Also split the 3-roll combo and added another roll because they all sounded so delicious. Â Shrimp tempura, asparagus, spicy salmon, and mango avocado rolls. Â The asparagus roll was a little boring, I was hoping for an asparagus tempura roll but it was just asparagus and rice. Â The other rolls were excellent, especially the spicy salmon.
There's nothing better than finding an A+ sushi joint just minutes from where you live, and Vic is that. Really excellent and fresh sushi, and lots of creative rolls beautifully constructed by the friendly chefs. I had a Thai curry dish the first time I came here, and it was fine, but I've since learned to come for the sushi -- the 3-(basic)rolls-for-$10 deal is a steal (I typically get the spicy tuna, Eel roll, shrimp tempura roll, etc. -- all excellent), but the larger, more elaborate rolls (e.g. Green Dragon) are well worth the very reasonable prices.
Service is excellent. The place is low-key, unfancy but very clean and simple, a bit on the smaller side so getting a table can be tough after 5pm. And one crucial note: If you're ordering takeout (as we have once), it's imperative you call well ahead of time because it'll probably take more than an hour, maybe 90 minutes on a Friday or Saturday. It's a busy place due to the quality of the food. If you just show up and place your order you're going to be waiting a LONG time.
So glad we discovered Vic for our sushi fix!
When scrolling over the number of stars to rate this restaurant, 2 stars gives the statement "Meh, I've experienced better." Â My sentiments exactly. Â While I agree, the cleanliness, friendly staff, and prices were rave-able - the food left MUCH to be desired. Â Perhaps my husband and I went a little too safe, splitting 3 rolls - avocado, spicy tuna, and yellow tail with scallion - thus resulting in a very underwhelming meal. Â The rolls were falling apart and hardly had any fish in them at all. Â If you're looking for a quick, cheap snack - this is your place. Â If you're looking for good sushi, head to Bluefin.
Review Source:This place is a bit hard to find, as it's not right on the pike, but it's worth it once you get there. The service is very friendly, and the sushi delicious & very fresh. It's BYO as well. My only suggestion to the owners is that on Fri & Sat nights they should get rid of the harsh ceiling lights and add some dim table lights. The food here is so good that the ambiance deserves a little attention. I highly recommend this place for food quality & service.
Review Source:The protein roll is great and the apple really adds a nice twist. Â The holiday roll is also a must-try if you like mango and scallop. Â It sounds like a strange combination but it is delicious. Â Service is pleasant and the fish fresh. Â A great suburban sushi place. Â The apps aren't as fantastic as Bluefin's though, and nothing beats the eel at Ajihei. Â However, this is good place for creative, fresh rolls.
Review Source:I found this place on Yelp maybe a year ago and told a friend of mine, who is also a local sushi fan, that we need to check this place out. Â Well we finally went last night. Â Wow this place has some good food! Â
My standard sushi involves seaweed salad, and three maki selections based on my mood. Â The seaweed salad was right on, just as good as my favorite sushi place (which won't be named in this review). Â
I then had the volcano roll, spicy tuna roll, and the Ocean Brother roll. Â The volcano roll was so nice and tasty and soft; it hit the spot really well. Â And the spicy tuna was good too; not quite spicy, but that's what wasabi is for, right? :-) Â I wasn't entirely fond of the Ocean Brother roll, but it had more of a seafood taste than I liked, so please take note of my bias; you may love this roll for yourself.
The only downside to this place is it's awfully small, so you may find it hard to get seating during typical dining hours. Â We had to wait for 30 min for a party of five. Â But then again they do a lot of takeout food, so that can make for a good alternative.
Check this place out.... the positive reviews of this place have been right on.
Just moved to Maple Glen. Â Dying for good sushi. Â We found Vic's. Â Micro small place with spartan surroundings. Â But the staff is what provides the character.
Vic and his brother-in-law are the chef's. Â Watching them work during the peak Friday night rush hour was amazing. Â They are so in sync with each other.
The rest of the family...who also are the staff...are jamming at every beat.
Now for the food.
The only marginal piece of sushi I had was tako. Â I'm guessing this far inland it is had to get.
Not to worry, the salmon, hamachi, and spicy tuna rolls rock the house. Â Ask for extra spicy. Â Vic is used to delivery to the local tasty buds, ie. bland.
The rolls are really nice. Â The Tiger Roll was a nice combination.
Everything is fresh and relatively fast. Â Oh, yeah. Â The have Thai food too.
BYOB. Â Vic's does a tremendous take-out business, so keep that in mind.
Bottom line...We'll be back!
Vic's has become my favorite Sushi place. Â I have been there numerous times now and have yet to be disappointed. Â Great selection and amazing quality. Â You CANNOT GO WRONG HERE! Â I have probably tried almost half the items on the menu!
Make sure you try the special - "Dancing Ebi"! Â It is unique and amazing. Â The presentation of their sushi is really good for the size of the restaurant. Â I haven't eaten there as I always get take out but I always see the place have people sitting there.
They have a pretty good selection of vegetarian sushi too (if you are vegetarian)
If you want sushi and you are in the Ambler/Lower Gwynedd/Blue Bell area - go to Vic's!!!
I took a gal pal here last Saturday night. Â We showed at 6:30pm and the (very small) dining room was about half full. Â By the time we ordered, it was full. Â Friendly employees and the place was very clean. Â The menu is fantastic -- lots of different kinds of sushi rolls that I've never seen before, and the ones we tried were delish. Â The fish was very fresh and the plate arrangements of the rolls was incredibly elaborate and beautifully placed. Â They get an A++ for plate display. Â Our table neighbors oooed and awed over our plate, and we did the same to theirs.
My friend and I did notice they had a very consistent stream of take-out orders and our food took almost an hour to come out. Â We ordered a few more rolls and that took another 45 minutes. Â The place is very small so that was disappointing -- I'm assuming the food was slow due to all the take-out orders. Â It was Saturday night, and it was worth the wait but, if I decide I want Vic's again on a Saturday night, I will be ordering take-out instead of waiting an hour in the dining room.
The Ocean Brother roll was my favorite and I can't stop thinking about it two days later...I must go back soon!
This place is a great little neighborhood sushi place. T and I both opted for the 3 rolls for $10.95 deal and it was fantastic! The rolls are smaller but there are eight pieces to each and I actually prefer small pieces so I don't look like I'm chewing cud.
I had the Philly roll, shrimp tempura and spicy salmon roll. All the fish was really fresh and flavorful. The spicy tuna (T got it) was amazing and I'll be getting this roll next time. The only problems I had were the salmon in the Philly roll wasn't smoked and the shrimp tempura didn't taste fresh. It tasted like it was cooked ahead of time.
But no matter. For this deal, we'll go back and I'll try something different!
Absolutely the best hands down!!!
I have been far and wide and I have eaten gobs of sushi. I love this stuff!
used to go in the one in town... hard to park but still worth it. Found out about this one and I made the time to go last night and YES....score ... Goal...!!
I ADORE the Ocean Brother!!
Will be back!!! If you cannot make it to any sushi spot make it a point to go to Vic's!
Somehow, we never knew this place was near us until recently. I mean, we passed it numerous times, but since it sits back off the main road, we kind of missed it.
Anyway, it is good. Solid good. It gets us our Thai cravings without going into the city. We have had take out and have eaten in. The staff is super friendly and the food good-- go!
This was a really nice little place. I went with my brother and gent for dinner. They opted for Thai, and I went for the sushi. The only real reason I'm giving it three stars is my boyfriend and brother were almost done their meals before I finally got my Sushi tray. I understand good rolls are hard to make, but it just seemed a bit long, and I had to eat them fast because my dining companions were already finished.
Eating them fast was hardly a problem, however. They were delicious. The Miso was perfect, and the atmosphere was indie and clean. Good food, comfy, small digs (probably seating about 30 people at bursting).
They're obviously not a Sushi-come-lately- place as the chef was very well schooled, and all the dishes looked just lovely on their way out.
Perfect for a lunch date, or an intimate dinner. I'd go again.
Been here twice (so far!); found it through a coupon mailer, and very glad I did! The food is great, and the family that owns it is very friendly! Vic and his wife La apparently had a place down in Philly for three years or so, and recently moved to this location (though that place is still open with someone else behind the counter). Critics might (and did- see below) wonder if we really need another sushi place in the area, but this one has quickly earned a spot on my top tier.
First trip, I had shumai, my wife had tom yum soup, and we each had the three roll special (hers actually fish, mine shrimp tempura and avocado) (24pc/$10.95). Everything was great, except that after trying her soup, I wished I had gotten another for myself- that is some good stuff. :-).
Second time around, we both had tom yum soup, the wife went with the three roll special again, and I decided to try a Thai dish (La is from Laos). I was initially going for the Lad Na, but our server called La over and she steered me to the Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) w/ shrimp. Again, everything was very good. We also ordered gyoza, but they somehow got lost in the shuffle (we weren't billed for them). Next time...
The decor is simple, overall space is a bit cramped and noisy (though the tables are good-sized), and the service can be spotty at the end of the night. Also, Vic seems to be the only person making the rolls, so it could be a bit of a wait if they are busy. However, the tasty food, casually friendly owners/staff, and good value push it to five stars (actually 4.5, if I could - this is my first published review, but trust I don't give stars up easily).
(Neat aside-- The food critic for the community newspaper "the Trend" gave it a 4/5 and a very nice write-up (that also questioned and then affirmed the need for this place) - La actually showed us the review, as the critic and his LDC, as he calls her, were actually just leaving from a third visit as we settled in for our second time.)
