Even though we live in the neighborhood, we had not been here in over a year. We sat outside and had to move to another table due to the smokers. I recommend that they have an outside smoking section like other sports bars. The waitress was very nice. The food was very good and not expensive. We will come back more often. Â However the music that was playing outside was obnoxious but when we moved it was not as loud which was good.
Review Source:Just attended their Aviator Brewing tap take over at the Cameron Village Draft House. Â While we customers were paying $5 and $6 a pint for their average at best beer, the brewery rep is handing out swag to the wait staff. Â That's just not cool. Â Will remember that the next time I am selecting my NC brewed beer purchase and where I purchase it. Â Enjoy your free swag that I paid for.
Review Source:Great pub food and a comfortable atmosphere. Â There are100 beers, ciders, etc. "on tap," and the seasonal selection is always changing. Â The detailed (and poetic) menu descriptions compel me to try a new beer each visit. Â Village Draft House has been my choice for the last two birthdays!
Review Source:Great house chips is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the Village Draft House. Â They have a good beer selection, and solid bar food. Â Seating is plentiful, and there is a nice mix of bar space and both-style seating. Â It's nice to have a place that it in Cameron Village--casual dining, beer specials, and the likes.
Review Source:I have been to the other draft houses in the area but this one seemed to have a little more personality. Â May have something to do with it being a hang out for State fans. Â Oh did I mention State was playing basketball that night. Â The beer selection was over whelming. Â Sometimes that can be a bad thing when you just want a beer to chill and watch the game. Â The waitress was able to make some suggestions so that helped. Â Order a burger and it was cooked just how I ordered. Â Will be going back to catch games in the future.
Review Source:The wife wanted to try this place out, so off we went to have dinner. I had the meatlof, it was two slices that had been cooked on the grill which I really like. My wife had the chicken quesdillias, they were good, but they were very spicey. She forgot to ask about that when she ordered. Our daughter had the grilled chicken breast. The food was good, and the service very good as well. Our only complaint per say is the noise. It is a sports bar and grill so if you sit on the "bar side" expect that. Next time we go back we'll ask for the side with tables and booths or the outside unless we want to watch a game.
Review Source:I like the location, and the outdoor seating area is great. Â However, that is where my liking for this place ends. Â The last time I went there, I sat inside. Â The restaurant smelled like an old beer filled dumpster. Â The service was good, but the food wasn't - all grease and no flavor.
My recommendation is to use this place like a bar. Â Go there when you want to have a few drinks with your friends. Â Don't eat there unless you are so hammered that you care more about food than flavor.
This place is your hometown, local bar/tavern. It has great food, friendly service and a HUGE selection of tap beers! What more could you ask for? Not much from me!
Food is to die for! The appetizers are fantastic and LARGE portions! Perfectly accompanied by the beer! On my last visit I had a buffalo chicken wrap with a side salad and it was GREAT! I tried my friends sweet potato tots and they were AMAZING! Sweet potato's deep fried give that sweet and salty taste that is simply just perfect! Their burgers are huge, and regular fries are good as well.
Let's get to the business - beer. HUGE selection of tap beers and on Wednesday nights they have pint night, $3.50 for virtually every beer. I quickly assessed the situation and went after a 9.4% ABV IPA, and it was amazing. At $3.50 it was even more amazing than I could have expected! Haha! Drink here. They know their business.
Finally, service is excellent - always a friendly server looking to meet our needs. Our waiter on this night handled our group of 10 or so very well. I ended up sitting around for an hour or two after and was continually asked if I needed anything. Super awesome!
I will be returning very often here!
Dropped by old-faithful with the parental units in tow to grab some early-dinner grub. We were all seated fairly quickly in a booth by the bar (booths are the way to go). We had great seats for viewing the Olympic games, but the captions were blocking the scoreboard in the upper left corner -- not much you can do to fix that.
Major points to our waitress for her uber friendliness and fast-paced return with an order of fried pickle chips that my dad hungrily (and a little impatiently) ordered. My dad is one of those people whose irritability goes up with the hungrier he is (and he gets quite scary).
I decided to try the Chicken Salad Melt this time with a garden salad on the side. Yes, I fought the urge to order fries (didn't want to be a fatty when my family all ordering "healthy" sides).
We all got our food pretty quickly -- just as we were finishing off the last few pickle chips. My Chicken Salad Melt, unfortunately, was anything BUT a melt. There was also no "melted cheddar" on this sandwich, but it did have an addition of chopped pecans (which I liked). I will give kudos for the salad dressing coming in a container on the side -- I like being able to control how many extra calories I'm about to intake on my "healthy" salad. Hehe
My boyfriend let me steal a taste of his Founders Breakfast Stout, and holy schnikey was it delicious!! It tasted of spectacular chocolatey coffee goodness -- I HIGHLY recommend (and I will order a glass or two next time)!
I would stick with getting a burger or salad if you come here for some serious pub-eatin' (along with your beer drinkin') -- so far, the Cobb Salad and Fried Pickle Chips have never let me down. ;-)
Village draft has really solid pub food. Â They have good appetizers, sandwiches and burgers. Â Also more than enough draft beer to choose from! Â
I love the chicken salad pita. Â It's some of the best chicken salad I've ever had!
Also good to note that some of their appetizers come in half sizes. Â I learned this the hard way when I ordered fried pickles and they came out with a MASSIVE platter of them! Â Wasn't too bad because I love fried pickles, but maybe not so good for my waist size. Â Oh well!
It gets really busy at lunch time, so be ready to wait. Â They also have outdoor seating.
I'm always looking for the good burgers in town, and Village Draft House is on point when it comes to their burgers. Located in Cameron Village, it is close to pretty much everything else.
Very nice to do some shopping and stroll down to the draft house for drinks and dinner. They have ample seating both inside and outside. The several times I have gone, all of the servers have been very attentive.
Their beer selection is great (99 beers on tap!) So if you are around Cameron Village and need an extensive beer list, this is your place.
I plan to go for trivia night pretty soon and I'll update my review to include what I thought about it.
I really enjoy the Village Draft House. I used to go there on Tuesdays for their trivia nights although I have stopped going recently, mostly because of a change in job, not lack of interest. Â I've always enjoyed their beer selection, they have so many beers on tap, and they feature a lot of local brews, and I always agree with supporting the local breweries. Â I really enjoyed their selection of pumpkin beers back in October, those are my favorite I so wish they weren't seasonal!
The food at the Village Draft House is what I would call higher end bar food. The food is really tasty and they have a lot of menu selections that are different from a typical bar menu like the Sante Fe Turkey sandwich I had the other night that was so good! I've also had the pickle chips (so salty), Buffalo chicken sandwich, mixed greens salad with yummy sweet cornbread and the Turkey Bacon Swiss. Everything always tastes great and their pasta salad, fries and chips all make delicious sides.
The staff here are always very helpful and friendly.  The service has always been decent every time i've gone, with no real problems to complain about. The waitress the other day did leave us sitting on the outdoor patio for quite some time before she brought us our waters, but luckily we weren't in a huge hurry. Speaking of the outdoor patio, its a very large seating area with a nice view of Cameron Village. Perfect for the  warm weather!
Anyways I have been here a few times before and I will definitely be back again, and I would absolutely recommend this place to someone who is into beer and into good bar food, because the Village Draft House knows where its at!
Solid place. Â I wish there was even more outdoor seating. Â The food is regular bar food to me, but GREAT selection of beers. Â Really, you want to come here for trying beers above anything else. Â 5 stars for beers, 3 for food. Â Average: 4.
They also have pint specials most weekdays, or specials of some sort.
As I was walking through the Cameron Village parking lot towards Village Draft House on Easter Sunday, I thought (totally unfairly), "Oh well, better get ready for a 2-star experience."
But everything was great. The beer list was extensive and appetizing and the menu had something for everyone. I think every person in my party of 5 was torn between at least two things, and we were all completely satisfied with our orders (which were: a salmon Caesar, a Cobb salad, two apple harvest salads, and some melt with fries). We also got nachos to start, and they were pretty tasty (if you're picky about salsa, like me, I say skip it--it's definitely from a jar).
And the cornbread was a surprise treat that did not disappoint.
Definitely a good spot in Cameron Village for a beer (if that's your thing) and better-than-average bar food. You could certainly do a lot worse than hot, salty cheese fries, topped with bacon, alongside a juicy cheeseburger. We both enjoyed our meals (2 burgers, one w/ VERY tasty onion rings) and our appetizer. Jay talked me into trying a hard cider, and apparently I don't like that OR beer, so I stuck with water, but Jay enjoyed whatever on-tap brew he ordered (plus most of my cider).
Village Draft House is casual, but busy, with a nice outdoor area. There were lots of dogs around - thanks for being pooch-friendly! Our server was awesome and our dining experience didn't break the bank. This would definitely be a fun place for after work dinner and drinks in the Cam Village area!
VDH is a solid spot for lunch or dinner, but I don't seek it out. Â I like how convenient it is and that I know what to expect from the menu. Â Sandwiches, burgers, apps are all solid choices. Â (Minus their spinach and artichoke dip which used to be delicious but has changed to an oily over cooked mess!)
I don't usually suggest it to friends because for some reason it never seems very clean to me. Â Not dirty, just not the cleanest.
I like it for its Pint Night and convenience.
The beer selection here is wonderful. Pretty much anything you'd want, cold and on draft. Pint prices are reasonable too.
Everything else is ho hum. The noise level tonight was high energy full of squeaky little girls for the most part which actually worked for us tonight because we had a 2 year old with us who could neither be still or quiet. Normally it would have been an exit for us. Hubby had a boring Cobb salad that had fridge cold cornbread and no sweet corn relish. The buffalo wings and shrimp were good with a nice blue cheese. Short stack had the kids turkey and cheese pita which she actually considered eating a bit of which must mean it was good. Â Service was good with check backs on beer but we never got any water.
Beer is definitely the draw here. The atmosphere is neither cozy nor warm. Just loud and busy but the selection on beer cures many sins.
Great selection of beers, nice outdoor seating and a relatively central location; there are certainly worse places to go than the Village Draft House! My main nitpicks are the brain-numbingly dull options for meatless eating (vegetarians DO NOT HATE FOOD! I swear to you!) and the sheer amount of noise that builds inside from the combination of acoustics, human voices and multiple TV sets. I'm a little hard of hearing, and the last time I went there it was a busy Wednesday night (when they do an excellent pint special) which reduced me to smile-and-nod conversation since I couldn't actually make out what my dining companions were saying most of the time.
$3 pint night on Wednesday does make for a great partnership with their enormous selection of draft beers; almost everyone who drinks beer is likely to find at least one thing they like here. While I wouldn't go out of my way to dine here, it's a nice choice in the Cameron Village area when you're feeling drinky - but if you want conversation with your drinks, just make sure to sit outside when possible!
The food is decent pub/sports bar fare -- tasty enough with a beer, but nothing fantastic. Â It's a decent burger or sandwich and fries.
I've been a couple times now, and found that they don't update their beer list often. Â We ordered 3-4 things off of it, had the server go check, and then come back to tell us the beer was no longer on tap. Â They really need to print accurate beer lists if they're going to boast about all those taps. It got frustrating.
Our first visit, we had a very rude waiter. Â He could tell he made us angry, I think, because after a couple visits to the table he eventually did change his attitude and got very friendly. Went away unimpressed that time, but I tried it again and the service did improve the second time around. Â All in all, it's not my favorite place but it's a fine enough spot to stop in for a burger and beer if you're in Cameron Village.
I completely agree with Roxanne K's assessment of this place. Village Draft House is nothing fancy and it's certainly not pretending to be anything it's not. And although the triangle's beer scene has been growing, this place remains one of my favorites to try a new beer, grab one of my local favorites, and catch a game.
VDH has 99 beers on tap and some bartenders that can make some great drinks. The draft selection is phenomenal and often showcases some special brews that are hard to find elsewhere. For instance, they had (and might still have) Southern Tier's Pumpking for several weeks when I couldn't find it anywhere else. They also have some great food and drink specials that can make it easy to drink on a budget.
The food is typical of a sports bar and identical to other Draft Houses in the area. This is my favorite place to get bacon cheese fries and I've found that I never have a problem finding something that sounds delicious.
Overall, the service is always great although it can get pretty rowdy. Although the food alone might not strike your fancy, I can guarantee you that it's a great spot for beer lovers.
First off, I will come here again.
I've been here two times. The first time we (boyfriend and I) came was our 2nd night in Raleigh after moving up here from Gainesville, FL. It was a Tuesday and they had Trivia Night in the bar area -- gotta love anywhere that does trivia! We were seated in the non-bar area (inside, to the right) so the ambiance left a little something to be desired. Still had TVs and Marilyn Monroe stuff on the walls, but was not a buzzing atmosphere. Â Had a burger and it was fantastic. Â Boyfriend had the steak tips with wild rice and was over the moon for it. Â I had the Strawberry Ale on draft, he had a Betty Hefe. Had a great time.
Second time we asked to be seated in the bar area (inside, to the left). Much more fun area to be seated in. Â They were out of the Strawberry Ale this time (boo! hiss!) but the waitress suggested the Purple Haze and it was yummy. Â I had the Kentucky Chicken Salad, buffaloed, and it was nothing special. Â Definitely will stick to burgers -- or maybe get a different salad next time.
Moral of the story: Sit on the left, get a burger. Or set outside -- both times we've been that looked like fun but boyfriend wanted to be near TVs. Â Looks like they give dogs a bowl of water if you bring them -- that's nice. I have cats so it doesn't mean anything to me, but if I had a dog I would like that in an establishment.
Last time I posted a review Yelp deleted it-- we will see if this lasts. I'm wasting 20 -30 minutes of my time on it so HOPEFULLY THEY LEAVE IT. HINT HINT.
The Village Draft House is a solid lunch spot in Cameron Village. Â It is more restaurant than sports bar. Â The interior is well done and inviting. Â They have a nice outdoor dining area if the darn temperature in Raleigh ever drops below 100 degrees again!
As you would expect, they have an excellent beer selection.
I usually stick to the burgers for lunch.  They are generally pretty good.  Most recently I had the  "O'Leary" which had a nice patty seasoned with  Cajun seasoning and topped with pepper jack cheese, an impressive pile of jalapenos, and chipotle sauce.  It tasted great but, the burger was  a bit over cooked.   I upgraded my side to an order of onion rings and they were excellent; house made with a light batter.  It was a little on the pricey side for lunch.  The burger and onion rings were around $11. Â
I don't know that I'd travel any great distance to try them but, if you're in the area they are worth a stop.
Cameron Village is not some place that I visit often, but to join an inaugural ROTD celebration, I put on my helmet, hope on the bike, and rode down to the Village Draft House to send a congratulation to Erin W. in person.
[Location] It is situated right in the middle of CV, so once you are done with your shopping day, feel free to stop by to grab a bite and have a drink before you go on your merry way, that is, if you get great service here.
[Selection] Besides the beers on tap, which I think should be another review all on its own. As far as food menu, it is readily available on their main website. Pretty much your standard pub grubs: sandwiches and burgers, and also meat dishes. Interestingly they also offer pitas, which from what I heard was pretty amazing, and so were their burgers, which would be made to your order. I chose a strange concoction that I have not seen before: Gyro Spinach salad.
[Taste] I ordered a gyro spinach salad, and I tasted... gyro meat, greens, cheese, spinach, and dressing... so basically I got exactly what I imagined it would be: a gyro on a plate, without the pita; strange thing is that, instead of pita, they put a cube of cornbread with my salad. Cornbread? where did that came from? Granted, it does taste pretty moist and sweet, but still? with gyro? who decided that?
[After-thought] So I think that Village Draft House is a very cool place to hang out for a pint of brews or two, and sit around the horseshoe table with your buds, having a good old time. Don't expect fast and timely service, especially during proper meal hours; since we there to hang out for a small celebration anyway, it was just as well.
Come for the beer, stay for the food!
Their beer selection is outstanding with a number of local and seasonal brews, and the staff is usually quite knowledgeable (not an easy task with this array of choices). The food is almost secondary; it's consistently good if not "great". Items that do achieve greatness include their homemade chips and many of the sandwiches. They're a better value than the bigger entrees and I'm particularly partial to the Turkey Reuben.
One thing I appreciate about the space is that there are essentially two - one side is (sports) bar-like and the other is a more traditional dining room, although both have televisions. There is outdoor seating as well. Service has always been attentive during slow and busy times alike.
I don't make special trips to come here, but if I'm in the CV area (and I somehow often am) it's a solid, dependable draft house experience where beer is the star and the food is good too.
Food was average bar food- nothing too exciting. I ordered a fairly original sounding item: Portobello Burger- supposedly a whole portobello cap on top of a burger. Came with a shruken 'bello on top of a overcooked burger. The bun must have been straight out of a bag. Side of bland, unseasoned pasta salad.
Cool atmosphere- very reminiscent of German Beer halls- but food could be improved upon.
I try to base each review of how well I think a business lives up to what they are 'supposed to be'. So yeah, there's no way that Village Drafthouse could compete with a place like Guglhupf, and it shouldn't have to. And it's never going to be James Joyce either because of the location. That just wouldn't go over in Cameron Village. Despite that, I honestly can't think of a single reason not to give it five stars, so....there you have it!
1. Huuuuge draft beer selection: They have amazing Unibroue seasonals, local NC seasonals and a wide variety of high gravity beers.
2. Huuuuge consistently tasty meals: I've never been disappointed by a meal there. I've sampled a wide variety of the menu over many visits and found everything to be consistently delicious and we always have leftovers.
3. Cool Staff: People there are generally friendly and funny. We nearly always get the same server and he's a beer genius, funny and friendly every time.
4. Open, yet cozy dining area: We usually grab a booth in the dining area off to the right. It's pretty low-lit and the booths are soft, bouncy red leather/vinyl. The walls are decked with TVs along one wall (which I generally try to ignore but sometimes provide some amusing trainwreck-style viewing).
5. $3 pints on Wednesdays (includes some high grav, y'all!)
All in all, if I'm in the area it's between Cafe Caturra or Village Drafthouse. If I want to sip wine and enjoy a lighter meal I'll go with CC, but if I'm starving and feel like tossing back a few cold ones, Village Drafthouse is top of the list.
Medallion Sandwich and Allagash White.
Second time around: wings ($4.99 on Sundays), soup, and salad special.
Village Draft House has a special every day of the week, and I can definitely appreciate that. Â Their food is definitely interesting with a long list of appealing burgers and sandwiches. Â The Medallion Sandwich is what they say it is, and it is noteworthy. Â The only thing is the service is wishy washy...
As we entered for a friend's birthday, a couple was complaining to the hostess about the lack of service at their table. Â My very first experience, I encountered the same thing. Â Again, table service makes the dining out experience what it's cracked out to be, when it's lacking...the question is, what am I paying for? (that is, because I know how to cook.)
Those are my dings for the 2 stars.  Other than that the beer selection is  great.  But -1 star for service and -1 for pricey burgers/sandwiches...
Would come back again, but not on my own accord.
Village Draft House is not only the home to some incredible beer selections, but the home of tasty noms! Â They've got killer cheesy fries, and that shrimp po' boy (yes...) is dreamy! Â Eating there makes my stomach so so happy. Â The place is comfort food heaven. Â Not so hot for the portabello mushroom burger, but whatever. Â Even without cheese, there fries are phenomenal. Â
The only think I don't like is the walls of tvs. Â That's probably just me, not being a huge tv watcher. Â Usually I go there with a huge group of friends, and since it's muggy and gross outside now, we're sitting indoors and I can't help but be distracted by the huge tvs behind my friend's vastly smaller heads. Â But I suppose we could just sit facing the other direction.
Outside seating is nice when the weather is nice as well. Â I love this place....when they don't accidentally put bacon in my cheesy fries.
Went with a group of friends to grab a bite to eat and a few beers before hitting the town. It was a decent bar atmosphere- the tvs were nice since we were waiting for latecomers and the food was decent, but nothing special.
The waitstaff was very friendly, taking time to recommend beers that they enjoy. They also serve Lonerider which is what bumped them from 3 stars to 4 in my book.
I was with a group of friends on a Sunday afternoon, and we chose to meet at the Village Draft House. Â Our server was friendly and gave us a proper amount of attention.
Members of our group order a variety of choices from salads to sandwiches to full dinners. Â I think everyone was pleased with their choices and thought the prices were reasonable. Â I was pleasantly surprised to have grits available as a side item with my ham and cheese sandwich. Â
Several large HDTV screens were carrying the Sunday afternoon NFL games - an added bonus to our group's time of conversations.
It was a pleasant experience for our group.
Village Draft House is one of those places that's right in the middle: neither great nor bad, but it's convenient and an easy option. It reminds me of an American pub with beers, burgers and sandwiches. Â Plenty of choices for lunch with some outdoor seating, you'll find something to keep you happy. Â Decor is clean, service is leisurely.
The best compliment I can give it is that you won't be disappointed. Â But when I do go out to eat (which is way too often), I like to have food and a experience that stands out a bit so the Village Draft House doesn't do much for me. Â If you're in Cameron Village, it's a good choice but I wouldn't go out of my way to try it out.
Another local chain that tries to look like a one-off independent biz by using unique names for each store. Â But not a bad one by any means.
The Draft House is sort of an anomaly in Cameron Village with all the raucous energy and sportsiness of the place. Â I don't know how it ended up here, but it seems to work.
The burgers really are delicious, as well as diverse. Â I usually get the Jackson Hole which has something on it that they call "Montreal seasoning"... I've never been quite sure what that is - and the waiters never know either - but it's tasty.
I don't know if they're doing rib night any more, but that used to be a favorite at least once a month for me and my housemates when we were in college. Â It also seemed to be such a tradition for everyone else and THEY'RE housemates while in college... so watch out for drunk frat-boys.
One irritating factor: if there is a single cloud in the sky, or if there is any mention of rain in the forecast, they will not seat you outside - even though 90% of the outdoor seating is covered, and is perfectly fine in the rain. Â You can sometimes negotiate, but they get pretty fierce about it.
I've been to the Draft House a couple of times, both when in town to visit my sister in law. Â It's good - regular bar food, but a very respectable list of burgers and sandwiches. Â The beer list is also impressive.
They've expanded since the first time I visited - it's double the size that it used to be, and that allows for more space between the tables. Â One side is more restaurant than bar. Â There was a wait for the restaurant, so we sat on the bar half. Â I had the turkey melt - it was delicious! Â I also had the onion rings, which were just too greasy in my opinion. Â The spinach salad was good, not amazing. Â I like that all the dressings come on the side, so that you're not eating dressing with a few bits of lettuce in it. Â With my delicious sandwich, I had a tasty apricot flavored beer. Â It wasn't sweet like you'd expect - I highly recommend it.
