I did not enjoy my experience at Village Pub. I went for a fish fry with my dad. They told us the fish was lake perch when we ordered it. While we waited for the food, we watched a staff person preparing the fish, and it was definitely NOT perch.
When the food arrived, it looked pretty good, but the cuts of fish soon revealed themselves to be filled with bones-- a major disappointment.
Generally, we walked away with the feeling that Village Pub wasn't very Wisconsin, since they didn't know their fish species, or what to do with what fish thy did have.
The 3rd Fish Fry for Lent 2013 takes me to the Village Pub in Shorewood.
Located in downtown Shorewood, there is no private parking lot - just street parking. Â But parking isn't really an issue.
The Village Pub is a nice neighborhood bar. Â Has your standard full bar with about 12 tables that seat anywhere from 2 to 6 - mostly 4 tops, about 4 flat screen for sport watching, and free wi-fi. Â We arrived right around 6:30 pm and there was no wait.
They have 2 choices for Fish Frys that can also be ordered as sandwiches. Â The offer a Cod with fries, slaw, and rye bread for $10.95 and a Perch with fries, slaw, and rye bread for $12.95. Â Luckily enough our table ordered 2 Cod and 2 Perch so that I could try both. Â The slaw was creamy and tasty, the bread was your standard rye with butter, the fries were steak fries - surprisingly I like those much better than the standard crinkle cut fries. Â Both types of fish were nicely battered which saved the flavor for the fish. Â Both were good but I favored the Perch over the Cod. It did have a slightly fishy taste but in a good way.
An overall good experience from the service - our waitress, Amanda, was a great sever  - to the food.  I'll definitely be back after Lent is over for a PBR...
