Came here on Tuesday night with my cousins, had a great time.  nice drink selection and prices are okay.  Spacy place with food (we didn't have any), pool tables and live music.

i love the vt. i love the bartenders, who are all my favorite bartenders, especially when they do something like shellac a hefty loaf of bread and then show it off and carry it around constantly - a homemade shillelagh, if you will (aka the loaf of justice). or maybe i just love that they have hoegaarden ($3.75, bitches!!!), lindemann's, and any other arcane ale you could possibly hope for. and i love saying "the vt," even though my sister claims that sounds like an std. whatever. i enjoy acronyms. i love that the guys here, when you offer to buy them a round since you just lost at pool and you're playing for shots,* get mildly offended and say things like, "i may be drunk, but i'm still southern!" for any guys who may be reading: this is the correct response when a girl tries to buy herself or you a drink. that's what i love - dudes will buy you a drink without being weird or sleazy. it's just the proper thing to do. i love that. also, they have delicious burgers. i've been to sesame a couple times, and i have to say, the vt has the same crazy toppings, but they're better. and you don't have to go out to spruill avenue. and they're half-off on tuesdays. and did i mention every night there's a different drink special? and live music. hell, i've talked myself into it - i'll be here tonight.

p.s. although the vt is cool, the bartenders awesome, and the drinks cheap, beware...it doesn't matter what you do in life, but Do Not (!!!!) come here on a wednesday. (they call this rancid hell "karaoke night," but i know better.) stay away. stay far, far away. give this gaping black hole a wide berth, or you too could be sucked in, never to be seen or heard from again.

*oh, and for the record, i was not drinking my shots. just so you know. wanted to clear that up. i am actually the queen of sobriety...ok, now you know i'm lying. but seriously, i go easy on the shots. some of us are responsible people! wait a minute, why am i explaining myself to yelp? what the hell is wrong with me? obviously a lack of oxygen to the brain. ok, i took a bevy of shots! so many i could barely stand up...although i could certainly still play pool. for the record.

    VT: an unpretentious, locally-owned gem

The Village Tavern is an all-around great little bar hidden in a forgotten shopping center in Mount Pleasant. Food and drink specials abound throughout the week, and they have recently updated their food and beer menus.

Vegetarians beware--this is no frills burger-n-wing cuisine. The grilled pimiento cheese is a winner, though, as are the raw fries, served in a near-perfect ratio of floppy to crisp. I always ask for a side of kamikaze sauce. It's a spicy teriyaki wing sauce, but damn does it rock on some raw fries.

Their selection of draft and bottle beers is comprehensive. Currently they are the only bar in Charleston (I think) to offer Rogue beers on draft. Be sure to ask how much those pints and bottles cost before you order, though--that fancy Belgian white could set you back 15 bucks.

Every Tuesday night is team trivia. Expect an attentive, competitive, intelligent, and fun-loving crowd--none of that King Street Grille madness. Oh, and I almost forgot: VT is one of Charleston's best venues for hip music. Their stage area boasts countless posters of indie rock superstars who passed through Charleston on their way to bigger and brighter. The atmosphere can be a little cramped at a popular show, and it is awfully smoky (but not for much longer. . .).
