Yum.  I've been here twice in my 10 days in Charleston and I'll likely go back before I leave.  Voodoo is just plain fun.  The staff is great, the drinks are great, the food is so good.

Drinks:  they regularly rotate homemade infused liquors.  Last night we had cantaloupe vodka and maple pecan bourbon.  Both were absolutely delightful and super creative.  They also serve giant punch bowls to stick with the tiki theme, but instead of being watered down or overly sweetened and artificial, they are made with all fresh juice and are alcoholic as all get out.

Food:  their tacos are delicious, from the duck taco, to the bahn mi taco, to the red curry.  All are served on warm and slightly grilled tortillas and have ample filling.  Check out happy hour for 50% off of these awesome delights.  The truffle tots are delicious.  Perhaps most delightful are the wings -- both the honey jerk and the red curry are well cooked and well sauced.

I had a great time here and am begging my boyfriend, as we speak, to take me back.

I notice something new every time I'm in this place, so it defies a quick summary. The food is quick and delish (try Sunday-- half price tacos), the drinks are way out of the ordinary, and the music keeps it lively. Eclectic crowd, and the bartenders are the best: cooler than you in a totally unpretentious way. This may be Avondale's grooviest little spot-- and that's saying something.

I love the entire Avondale area but I must say that Voodoo is one of the spots I always end up at when I am in the area. They get a good crowd at night with excellent music as well. The decor is so eclectic and strange but it works. They are a tiki bar but that isn't always apparent other than the crazy drink.

I have eaten here a few times and the prices are crazy cheap. This last time I strayed from what I know and went with the banh mi tacos with a side of tots. Tots are always delicious but the banh mi tacos didn't really wow me. I should have stuck with the BBQ duck tacos or the duck sliders... both are unreal.

Part of me wishes they would give the place a more solid identity but another part just says... that's Voodoo. Where else can you sit in a leopard print chair, surrounded by dimly lit red walls, listening to a 90's rock song, and drinking out of a donkey? Probably nowhere else in the world.

All their food offerings are awesome. If you want to go somewhere and have something that is not your everyday/average/normal/in and out, Voodoo is the place to go. Their "drink bowls" cost more than your average drink but they are worth every penny and in hilariously creative chalices. Their staff is always friendly. The decor, music, and all-around atmosphere is cool and comfortable, most notably the lounge area. The bartender we had last time helped concoct a delicious improvised libation that wasn't on the menu and hadn't been made before (to our knowledge).

My first Voodoo experience was initially just for drinks and a light dinner. The tacos, mango mojitos, and service  were all excellent (esp for the price). It turned out to be Salsa night, which was incredible because the instructors gave us one on one attention and feed back. When the salsa ceased, a group of really fun people who loved to get their dance on intensified the dancing group and formed a breakdancing circle!

My second experience was equally great! The Vibe was more chill but still filled with tasty food, wine and the awesome S'mores!!!

But whatever the two combine with its fantastic!!  The service is Great and the drinks are awesome. Now let me get to the food..  my jaw was on the floor when I saw it. Its all Tapas basically but They have Duck Tacos and Lamb Tacos.  Man.. this is a must see must stop by place. Come and expereience it for yourself!!

Voodoo is basically the stuff that dreams are made of.

Beautiful paintings on velvet canvas, tropically radical drinks, a cool vibe that is somewhere along the lines of exotic, gothic mystery, tiki bar and glitter; Voodoo brings so much to my life.

Their tacos are not your traditional tacos, but they are friggin' YUMMY. In no order of importance, these are the items I love: all the tacos, the duck sliders, the pot stickers, cheese fondue, and the tots.

Lastly, they have s'mores that you can make yourself. Like I said, DREAMS ARE MADE OF THIS SHIT, PEOPLE! ...Sorry for yelling. Food gets me excited.

Thank you for my friend for taking us here for dinner. I am happy that we ventured out of the touristy historic downtown area and try something new.  The place is the most un-tiki tiki lounge; the place is quite vamp in style.

The 6 of us sat in the main room at one of the side booths. We were greeted immediately by our waitress (I am horrible with remembering names). Service was good given they were sorely understaffed. I didn't see but 2 waitresses (including ours) in the whole room, which was getting filled with big parties. We were enjoying each other companies and didn't mind the longer wait in between.  I didn't feel like she forgot us at all, she was just slammed. And when she was around, she's very attentive and answered my gazillion questions about beer choices.  SERVICE: thumbs up

I ordered the duck sliders with a side of tots. I didn't quite taste the duck but I am used to eating whole duck at Chinese restaurant so I am a little spoiled. The Hawaiian buns were soft and sweet.  The tater tots were FABULOUS!  Get the tots. They were out of the corn as well as another item, and the beer special. So that was a little of a bummer. I also tried everyone's food, and the honey jerk wings were good, it's fried then coated with sauce. The lumpia was a surprise item on the menu, and I put it above average... Feel like something is missing but overall good. The tacos looked yummy, I took a bite of the shrimps and another thumbs up. Overall I was impressed by the food especially for the price.

The highlight of the meal was the strawberry infused tequila margarita with jalapeño. Holy smoke it was nothing like a margarita and we could feel the burnt (from the jalapeño not the liquor). It was one of the most interesting drinks I have had.

This is a solid place for a fun night out!  Will be back Voodoo!

I don't live in Chas anymore and I'm still reviewing this. The duck club sliders are one of my favorite foods, period. The bar is super chill too. Best bar in West Ashley.

Cute place, reasonable prices. Too bad my bank card was stolen there and used the same night to pay someone else's tab. Good looking out bartenders.

I really enjoy this vintage gothic tiki atmosphere, so much fun. This whole part of town is really 'rockabilly' and this place is a great addition. The menu of drinks is kitchy they all come in tiki cups and even fish bowls. The drinks are very 60/70s and strong as hell. The bartender would not substitute sprite for seltzer. What an ass. So i sat with my sweet drink (any other option woud be tooo strong or tooo sweet umm this would have been salvaged had they used seltzer) it was better than my friend's super strong 1965 man drinks lol.

I'm happy the Charleston area has something different going on than it used to have. I know the mood is supposed to be kitschy but I felt a little sketchy hanging out there by myself on a weeknight. Maybe that's more about me and less about Voodoo lounge.

Kind of a cool funky bar. Had a couple margaritas, then ordered some tacos. Shrimp and cheeseburger tacos. Not authentic Mexican but very tasty!  I liked the shrimp ones better. Sundays are half priced tacos. How do ya hope to beat it?  Will come back!

Parking is a headache, but make enough circles around the block and you can get lucky. This place is very unique, sort of goth and funk, dark interior with tiki theme. Everyone seems to have a tat. The drinks are fun and island themed and the food is actually quite decent. I got the duck sliders were bite-size and surprisingly tasty. The tuna tacos looked fairly good too. The area is open and roomy. The back (single) bathroom was clean. The service was pretty good, attentive enough to get what you need, but not invasive. There's a bar on the left side and separated by a decorative wall with windows, there's a lounge with booths, tables and couches on the other side.

The late-night crowd has changed since I went to college at C of C but it's still a good, fun bar. Close to other bars so if it gets too busy there are others to meander to.

Cucumber-basil infused vodka was the house specialty drink while I was there - 2 of them were fantastic. Light, refreshing, they went down way too easily.

The tater tots w/ truffle butter reminded me of college times, but a bit grown up. The tots/butter had a slight bite when eaten together.

The sliders were amazing. The white bean slider had a zip/tang to it all its own. I'm not usually a bean fan but with the bread & whatever fixin' they put on top - it was a big hit. The buffalo slider was tasty too (I forget the 3rd).

To top it all off we made s'mores at our table! Too cute. (I've done this at 1 other restaurant in San Fran.) They brought out a blue container w/ flames coming out the side, 4 sticks w/ corresponding marshmellows, 2 graham crackers per 'mellow & a slab of (Hershey's?) milk chocolate. We toasted the mellows, smashed them into s'mores & ate like the kids we used to be...I'm pretty sure I had chocolate around my mouth when I was done!

There is no possible way this lounge can ever receive a bad review. People say "never say never", I'm saying NEVER. Their operation-ownership-management and staff have their sh_t down. The food is great, cooked in the open (sort of) so you know who is preparing the grub and not behind doors and walls, where the patron has no idea whats going on back there. I have been in many restaurants BOH and I promise, you just may think differently about eating at the location or out, ever again. Caroline the manager is sweet as sugar, the interior is very cool, almost NYC Downtown loungeish. It you can, order a few drinks off their drink list-Dark and Stormy is my favorite.

This place grows on you. I have to admit the first time I went there I didn't like it at all... Now it's one of my favorite places to hang out when I'm in Charleston.  The bartenders are awesome, the food is great, and the crowd is always interesting and diverse (shout out to Jen's crew!).  Definitely check out one of the themed nights as those are always a good time.  Highly recommended!

Voodoo is a fun, kitschy little bar in West Ashley.  A nice atmosphere when you want to go have a couple drinks and relax or listen to some interesting music. It can sometimes get overcrowded and loud on the weekends (maybe that's good if you like that sort of thing). Food is hit or miss. The duck sliders are pretty good (but sweet as they are on king's hawaiian bread) and the cheeseburger tacos are tasty (though greasy). Other foods can be a coin toss of good to bad. They also have an interesting menu of tiki drinks which are cool if you like sweet, fruity drinks.

All in all a fun little spot to check out for sure, and also has the benefit of other cool spots within walking distance such as Gene's, Triangle char and bar, and Pearlz, which is a rarity outside of downtown. I recommend you check it out if you haven't!

I am torn with this review. I love going during the week and sitting at the bar for a $2 Mai Tai and 1/2 price tacos for happy hour. The tots are out of this world and the tacos are a great deal and yummy.

Now the bad side and disappointment. I attended the "takeover" at the Voodoo. They were aware of the event. So when 200 queers show up, why are you surprised when you a) don't have enough staff b) are slammed in the kitchen and c) the bar is slammed.  Voodoo had to make more money that night then an entire week. The problem occurred when the manager was rude to us and tried to screw us on the bill. Happy hour ends at 7pm. When I get my check and try to pay at 7:10, most likely the taco and numerous drinks we had were ordered BEFORE happy hour ended.  I do not like to argue over a bill and be treated like dirt when questioning it. Boo on you Voodoo!!

Everytime I've gone has been a great time. I've seen some local musicians go and play there-- they are always awesome. The place itself looks pretty cool (I am a fan of the circular windows that let you look in from the bar to the dining area) and I've never had to wait too long to get a drink. I've never eaten here, however, so I wouldn't be able to say much about that.

It's also nice to get away from downtown, where it seems like the college of charleston preppies are taking over.

Voodoo is my favorite place West Ashley.  The food is always excellent, the service is always excellent, the music and ambiance is always excellent.  They don't even care if you step next door to get an Oyster Shooter and come back!  It's Locally owned an operated and The Whole Entire Staff is Always Nice to the Customer.  I love Voodoo.  Plus they have $1.25 Miller High Life Ponies for those that don't like to drink a lot!  Voodoo Rocks

Had to go check this place out finally, after many times driving by and never stopping in.  My wife and I went to top off the date night we had on Saturday.  I was impressed with their drink menu, especially their tiki drink menu.  I was hoping for it to be more of a tiki lounge and not a lounge, but I guess beggars can't be choosers.  Charleston doesn't have any tiki lounges, which I find almost blasphemous, due to our close proximity to the ocean and the somewhat tropical weather we have.  Anyway, pretty cool inside.  Lots of 60's/70's kitschy stuff.  We sat on the the tiger print couch in the front corner.  Definitely going to try and hit this place up during happy hour for low priced Mai Tais.

I love Voodoo because I haven't ever seen those dreaded CofC preppy lookalike girls in pearls like I always see downtown.  The music is good, the service is good, the tacos are great (more below), and the vibe in the two adjacent rooms is hip and chill.

Since no one else ranted on the food, I'll just say, the poo poo platter is a snoozer.  Go for the tacos.  I have had all of them, and there is not a bad one in the bunch.  I particularly love the panko-crusted seared tuna tacos, no make that the bacon cheeseburger, no the chicken with peanut sauce, nooo, definitely the shrimp.  Each order comes with two tacos, so take a friend and swap one.  Beware the pickled carrots.  They are devilishly spicey, kinda like me sometimes.

Drinks - very hip and unique. Served in giant tiki glasses.

Food - heard the tacos are good. Have to go back and try them. The other food is very average.

Decor - Saw in another review that it was "sexy". Yes... that fits nicely.  It was nice and dark, and quiet. Worth a drink or two and a taco.

As the other esteemed reviewers have observed, most folks don't come to Voodoo for the food, though the Veggie Gourmet tacos, featuring Peruvian purple potatoes (!!?), are a delightfully different little snack.  Personally, I go for the atmosphere, which feels like it was provided entirely by the Junk N Jive retro market across the street: sparkly vinyl tabletops, funky fabric light fixtures, and priceless velvet paintings (that one of Jesus blessing the big rig is my favorite, too, Regina S.!). The whole place has a sexy red glow and a laid back, lounge-y feel that suits me just fine.

I've sampled some of their ultra-sweet tiki treats, including the giant Voodoo 18, which comes with plenty of extra long straws for the whole table, and I must say they are dangerously tasty. They can add up in a hurry, though.  Your best bet might just be the divine Paulaner draft.

Thursdays from about 9 o'clock on it's amateur deejay night, which is not nearly as bad as it sounds. In fact, it can be pretty rad, with an emphasis on obscure or forgotten pop songs.

Though the vibe at Voodoo draws more than a few hipsters across the Ashley, it still retains a casual, unpretentious feel that is a welcome change from the downtown bar scene.

On the rare occassion I step out for a good time in the West Ashley area, I almost always spend a bit of time in Voodoo (and Gene's, right across the street).  The vibe here is very hip, very cool, kind of retro, inviting, warm and a little sexy, too.  It's a fun place with decent food and drink.  It's nothing too incredible, but I like it.  As I said, we almost always duck in to Voodoo for at least one drink.
The tacos here are pretty good.  Don't expect much from this menu.  And be sure to leave time for the other bars that are a literal stone's throw away.

The right corner of the "Bar-muda" Triangle in West Ashley, Voodoo Lounge offers tropical drinks in authentic tiki mugs with silly straws and fruit. (The other points are Gene's Haufbrau and Triangle Grill) Don't let the drinks fool you, this is a serious hipster hangout. There's a velvet painting of Jesus and a semi on the back wall I covet.

Just don't come hungry. The pizzas are okay, but the rest of the menu is slim picking. And whatever you do, please don't order wine. I drink the Dark & Stormies (dark rum and ginger beer) and the Mai Tais.
