Service was terrible. Â We were in a large group and they completely neglected our table. We had to ask for bread while everyone else in the group were already eating their appetizers. Â My water glass was never refilled. Â They ran out of sparkling water. Â Then When it came to order dessert, he didn't even ask half of the table what they wanted, then he closed the ticket before we could order. Â When we said we would like desert he charged us seperately. Â He was also annoyed when we asked for boxes. Â I really don't feeling like going back ever and I would never hold a function there with any
Review Source:Walked right in on a Friday night around 7pm, which was kind of surprising as the parking lot was full. Â As others have commented the noise level is high, it was hard to hear others speak at the table.
Started off with the Filé Gumbo and the salad. The gumbo was not that great, while spicy the ingredients were mush and I couldn't discern the what exactly I was eating. The salad was OK, just a generic sald with Italian dressing. The bread was nice and they supplied REAL BUTTER not that spread garbage.
Was amazed at the menu selection but disappointed by the small cuts of meat, I think the largest cut was a 16oz porterhouse. Â Decided to go with the Ribeye with a side of Sweet Potato fries.
After a lengthy wait, the main entree finally came. Â The steak was just OK, nothing great which was a suprise as I could have sworn I read that they dry age their beef. Â Sweet potato fries were meh as well.
Will probably go back if I'm in the area again.
Customer picked the restaurant. If you have time and don't mind the wait, stick around. Â No one meets you at the door. Find the name list on the front counter and sign your name. Get a drink, you will be there for awhile. Once we sat down, waitress was good, friendly, efficient. Â Food choices were adequate. Food was good. My friend had the chicken fried steak and thought it was awesome. Â Rest of the group enjoyed their food. Prices were normal for an 'oil & gas' area, which means slightly high. All in all, I'd go back again and try different dishes.
Review Source:This place was excellent. I got the pecan crusted salmon. Honestly, one of the best salmon dishes I've had. It was very savory, but the pecans didn't overpower the salmon. Â The salad was pretty tasty, though I agree with the earlier post that it was overdressed. Â The cheesecake was an impulse buy and it was delicious. Â Great atmosphere, dark but friendly and classy, and good wine list as well.
My collegues both got the bacon wrapped fillet. It looked amazing.
From Houston on business. Read reviews and decided to give this place a shot due to proximity from the hotel. Outback does a better steak than the ribeye I got and that is not saying much. It was soaked in butter as well as fatty and tough. Salad was okay but wasn't as great as other reviews lead on. Not much good to say about this place.
Review Source:While in Midland for the annual PGA golf tournament at Midland CC, my small group visited WSB&G after hearing it was Midland's best restaurant. Â If this is the best, there's opportunity here outside the gas and oil fields. Â First, I like small "real" places, and WSB&G has that feel. The service was harried, but good (and even on a Wednesday evening, early, it was real busy). Â It was the food that leaves room for improvement.
The Porterhouse promises "two steaks in one", a ribeye and a strip, and though the flavor was okay, it was so tough and gristly I could barely cut it away from the bone. Â Seriously, a 4" chainsaw would have been a lot more useful than the cheap steak knife I was given. Â I opted for asparagus instead of the usual baker or fries--big mistake, I guess. Â Tougher than the steak, no flavor at all. Â Kind of stick-like. Â The house salad with bleu cheese crumbles, though a bit drenched in dressing, was tasty and everyone's favorite part of the meal. Â The rest of the party had a variety of beef cuts and salmon. Â The overall verdict was, "it's okay--nothing special." Â I picked up the check for our group of 6, so I'm thinking the level of candor was questionable.
So . . . three stars out of five, and that's generous for the "best restaurant in Midland."
Recently we had the Sunday Brunch at Wall St. and we got Eggs Benedict. They have a buffet where you can get salad (which consists of their usual salad fixings; blue cheese, Italian dressing, lettuce, tomatoes & onions) along with fresh fruit and mini-cinnamon rolls and banana nut bread. The cinnamon rolls are kept in a chafing dish and and mostly very good but sometimes can be dried out somewhat. The fruit was all fresh and tasted good, including grapefruit slices, pineapple, strawberries etc. The main dish had good flavor and was accompanied by cubed fried potatoes (called "hash browns" on the menu but in my mind, "hash browns" are usually shredded potato).
The potatoes were well-seasoned but both they and the Eggs Benedict were not quite as warm as they could be. Also I might have liked a little bit more potatoes than they gave. The fried potatoes are the only side dish they serve during Sunday brunch as far as I know.
I got some decaffeinated coffee which was fresh and rich in flavor.
Our tab was less than $30.00 for two of us not including the tip so their Sunday brunch can be a way to have a fairly fancy dining experience for not a whole lot of money.
The Goods:
The bread was nice and warm
Salad was a bit over dressed but it was tasty
The baked potato was super buttery!
The Bads:
Had the Tuna steak special nothing fancy but I guess I was hoping for more of a rare/red ahi style.
Service was ok but they were swamped. Will probably be back due to work. Â Place was neither bad nor awesome... Kinda like this review.
I like going here for lunch and getting their gumbo. It is really flavorful for out west Texas where seafood is scarce. At dinner time I enjoy their steaks and I recently tried their cilantro chicken, it was light and had a nice flavor. For dessert try the gold brick, it is just ice cream with chocolate hard topping, but it sure does taste wonderful after a meal. They have really good cocktails too and the staff is friendly and attentive to their tables.
Review Source:I know this is supposed to be the best restaurant in Midland for a business lunch and maybe for the atmosphere being old and semi rich looking it does ok...but I can't say anything good about the food. I've had the ribeye twice and both times I'd compare it to Sirloin Stockade. Fatty, semi tough, thin, overseasoned but strangly lacking in flavor, and burned on the outside. Just not very good at all regardless of price. I might (not) pay $12 for it at a mom and pops. The loaded potato was good though both times.
This time around I tried something different, the flounder stuffed with crab meat and a side of Corn O'Brian I think it's called. Â The flounder was devoid of flavor, and arranged in a circle around the crab meat and baked in an oven. Â I mean come on it was swimming in a little butter, how can butter not have flavor? Â The crab meat however was pretty tasty and the best thing on the plate. Â The corn side dish is basically corn with red and green bell peppers, and someone threw out the flavor again on this dish too. Â Had to mega salt it up to taste anything. Â At first I thought my pallet was just off, but since the crab meat had flavor, I know my senses were operating just fine. Â Coming from a big city like Dallas with so much competition, I know my expectations are higher but if you're looking for the quality of Papa Bros, III Forks or anything similar, expect to find Outback or less. Not sure why I keep going back...the bread is good..? They have Lagavulin :/ I guess that counts for atmosphere. C'mon there are wealthy people here surely there's a better option for steak??
The highlight of the dinner was sitting next to a very old man named Bob that breeds race horses. Â He said he'd been breeding them since "nineteen fifty twelves" and referred to the bartender as "Hey, Commodore." Â That made my night. Â I now call everybody Commodore.
Could very well be the only restaurant worth going out of your way for in the entire Permian basin. Â Good bottle of wine, big fat steak cooked perfectly, wife had some excellent fish (virtually impossible to find in west Texas), professional and Informative waitress (clearly a food service veteran), all for around $100. Â Class interior and central location. Â A very pleasant experience every time we went after as well.
Review Source:Awesome place to get a good steak and sea food. My favorite is the salad and fresh baked bread. I don't know what they do to that salad its a simple salad. Iceberg, onions, cherry tomatoes, blue cheese crumbles and Italian dressing. It's just awesome. Best in midland!! If you have a chance try to go for brunch!!! Best mini cinnamon rolls!!
Review Source:I've been here for breakfast and lunch and definitely enjoyed both. It's a bit ridiculous how long you have to wait to get a table EVERY time, although poor and/or slow service seems to be the standard in Midland. During breakfast they have these little cinnamon rolls that are SO good, but you have to wait in line for those too. Based on the other reviews, I think I will be going back one more time before I leave Midland to try the Cajun Etouffee.
Review Source:This is probably as good as it gets in Midland. Wall Street offers solid American food in a dark, tired looking space desperately in need of a makeover. The green concrete walls and bare floor help make the space very noisy. The din at peak dining hours can make conversation difficult.
In a town dominated by chain and Mexican restaurants, the food at Wall Street is a welcome alternative. Â Steaks are a specialty as is the Cajun Etoufee. Â Neither the menu nor the daily specials have changed in ages. Â Food is predictable and solid. Â House salad with blue cheese crumbles and bread are offered at every meal. Â Service is professional. Â The restaurant offers a full bar and a reasonable wine list.
The wait for a table can be very long so try going early or late. Â I believe you can call in to put your name on the waiting list for a table. Â They do not take reservations.
I don't give five star ratings, usually. But, this is one of the World's best restaurants. Having lived in places like New Orleans, Lafayette, & Austin for much of my life; I am not easily impressed. Having business in Geneva and family in Paris, I am pretty familiar with European places, too.
I have eaten at the WSB&G 30 or 40 times over 28 years; and, having been very, very pleased every time, I am confident in this.
Midland has a number of billionaires, with a "B", and one is likely to see them in this neat, well-run place.
I was prompted to write a second review by someone's likening WSB&G to a Dallas chain. Â There is no chain anywhere which comes near the consitent quality of this gem. Â My son-in-law, who lives in Preston Hollow, treats me to Big-D's finest, which are good, but, not this good.
As another said, the crawfish etouffee is good. Â It is; I am an Acadia Parish, LA, native. Â Another said the menu never changes; WELL, thank GOD ! Â Don't mess with success !
More than once, we have "diverted" considerable distances to MDD airfield, just to dine here.
Rick
New Orleans
It seems as though this is as good as it gets, for downtown at least...possibly the whole town. Â As 100 people where to go for dinner in Midland, and 99 will tell you to go here. Â It's a cozy, older building with a lot of character. Â My strip steak was average (think Ponderosa)...less than average for Texas. Â Obviously, this the place to go for visiting oil folks, judging from the extensive Scotch list and all of the suits/cowboy boots. Â All-in-all, this place served it's purpose by offering a decent meal and tasty beverages for the one night I was in town.
Review Source:Endless salad with bleu cheese, yumm! Â I had salmon, which was ok. Â I'm not a huge salmon fan, but the server recommended it. Â It wasn't the best salmon I've ever had, but definitely not the worst. Â Nice bar, good happy hour, fun place. Â If you're in Midland, in need of a good meal with a fun, chill atmosphere, stop by this place!
Review Source:During a recent business trip to Midland I had dinner at Wall Street Bar and Grill. Â I'm so glad I tried this place because it was the only decent food I ate all week in this area. Â I ate at the bar and had the salmon which was delicious. Â The bartender was prompt but not very friendly. Â The place was fairly crowded for a Tuesday night and I hear it stays crowded which is a good sign. Â If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in Midland at least treat yourself to a nice meal at Wall Street Bar and Grill.
Review Source:one of the better spots in Midland, AND they have Old Charter on the shelf at the bar. Â that really deserves 5 stars...
the food is consistent and fairly good. Â i'm not one to rave about it though. Â i had the orange roughy with etouffe last time i went and the fish was totally overwhelmed by the (a bit over-salted) etouffe. Â the best thing to do is stick to the apps - fried quail is fantastic, the crawfish tails are awesome, and the crab cakes are a must-order. Â that is usually what my meal will consist of. Â unless i'm getting a steak.
i was slightly disappointed with the ribeye, so if you order a steak, go with the filet. Â
service is iffy - depending on who is working (the bar).
Considering that this restaurant looks like a nice place to have a good meal, and how BUSY this place always is, I have some reservations about giving a good mark on the service I received. Â Seems like poor service at restaurants is a common theme here in town. Anyway, I walk in and waited for almost 10 minutes to be seated. They need a host/hostess there. I get seated by one of the servers there, then wait another 10 minutes to be approached by another server, to wait another five minutes for another server to bring me water. Â She took my order, the food runner brings my salad, two minutes later, my chicken fried steak. I eat, I get offered bread by another server, then she asked again five minutes later. I finish my meal, she asks "do you want dessert" not "would you like to see our dessert menu" hello?? I settle my check and get the bread to go. Â Nonetheless, their brunch is very good, try it.
Review Source:Wall Street is a Midland classic. It isn't the trendiest restaurant in town, and the menu hasn't changed in the nine years that I have been dining there. I used to consider this a drawback, but I have since decided that it is like my favorite little black dress- reliable and timeless.
The menu is seafood centered, though my friend from London declared the filet the best he has ever had. It reminds of the Palm in many ways, with its dark wood and retro steakhouse menu items, though you will find the final tab at Wall Street to be much easier to take.
I will often make a meal out of the crab cake appetizer and the much lauded bleu cheese vinaigrette salad. I had the seafood chile rellenos for lunch the other day, and was pleasantly surprised to be offered the lunch portion (an option that wasn't offered on the menu, so be sure to ask).
Wall Street has the best full bar in Midland, with higher end whiskeys and vodkas as well as specialty liquors. The wine list is fairly priced and diverse, though I do wish they would offer more wines by the glass.
Overall, it is an elegant though comfortable establishment that shouldn't be missed while in Midland.
The wait was long for our large party but when we finally were seated things moved pretty quickly. I ordered the 16oz Porterhouse. Bur before I enjoyed that we were served endless bluecheese salad and bread loafs. I'm not a huge fan of blue cheese but Wall Street made me a believer. Our meals were all served timely and the steak was awesome. It literally was like eating 2 steaks in one. Especially since I am not a huge red meat fan. But if you're in Midland do yourself a favor and go to Wall Street and get a steak. And get a gold brick for dessert. Don't ask what it is just get one.
Review Source:I found myself at Wall Street Bar and Grill in Midland Texas after some client meetings. Â The front desk at the Courtyard Marriott in Midland-Odessa highly recommended this place; Â though I was a bit skeptical at first due to the name and how it implies there's greasy bar food and watered-down drinks that's typical at most bar establishments. Â That, my friends, is not the case at Wall Street Bar and Grill.
Wall Street (not to be confused with the one in NYC) Bar and Grill has been around for years, and like an earlier reviewer said it is THE place to go in Midland-Odessa. Â The menu consists of prime steaks, seafood dishes, plenty of side dishes and an unlimited salad option. Â My party of 6 ordered the ribeyes, filets, and I ordered the Blackened Orange Roughy. Â Everyone raved about their steaks being so tender you could cut the meat with a fork - nice! Â This is Tejas afterall. Â If a steak isn't tender and juicy then you have no business serving them. Â My Orange Roughy was surprisingly flavorful. Â Obviously not fresh from the ocean because it's West Tejas but the seasoning was good and it was cooked nicely. Â
The unlimited salad was a definite highlight. Â Mainly because the italian vinaigerette and blue cheese crumbles are the right amount of creamy and acidity. Â I mean it was so good I had three large bowls to myself. Â Which says a lot since I don't usually eat like a rabbit. Â
If you find yourself in the quaint oil town of Midland-Odessa, I highly recommend going to a place where the locals all flock to. Â The wait staff is friendly and accommodating (my salad bowl never went empty, ahem), good food and nice local flair.
There are so few decent options in Midland that this place has quickly become my favorite destination. They have a good bar selection, and the food is good. Although they feature a lot of seafood, I haven't been terribly impressed with it. I'd definitely steer towards the steaks and unlimited salad bowl (they also have very good fried chicken). The staff is uniformly friendly, accommodating & efficient, and they offer a totally non-smoking environment, which is a god send here.
If you have to eat out in Midland, this is the place to do it.
Wall Street Bar and Grill is located in downtown Midland and has the quaint charm you'd expect from a restaurant that has been around for a long time. Â We arrived pretty early around 5:30 and put our name on the list. Â (You don't need to wait for the host or hostess; you just sign yourself up.) Â We waited about 10 minutes before being seated. Â The atmosphere was lively and the staff was friendly. Â The food, however, was decent. Â We are from New Orleans so we wanted to try the seafood and other offerings that originated from our area. Â We started with shrimp cocktail and gumbo. Â They serve two different types of shrimp cocktail, traditional and a Mexican version. Â We wanted to see if the southwest twist was an improvement so we ordered the latter. Â It was not...the shrimp were small and this version had no resemblance to a traditional cocktail. Â Next was the gumbo. Â I'm sorry, but this is not gumbo...not even close. Â It didn't seem to have a roux. Â In fact, it was like a soup with gumbo file sprinkled in it. Â For our entrees we ordered two fish dishes. Â My dish came with the crawfish ettoufee. Â This attempt was closer than the gumbo. Â But, it is not like what you find on Bourbon as another reviewer suggests. Â But, it wasn't bad.
The next time we are in Midland we will try Wall Street again. Â We liked the atmosphere, the staff was friendly and our overall experience was good. Â But, the food is not comparable to New Orleans. Â I think we'll try the steak next time.
The first time I ever went to Midland, I stayed in the Hilton Midland Towers, and asked the front desk what good restaurants there were. Â They immediately pointed me to the Wall Street Bar, which is almost right across the street from the Hilton.
I thought the restaurant was okay, but kind of spendy for what you get. Â This is really a seafood restaurant, and I'm not a big seafood nut. Â But, it's certainly a place that the locals flock to--when I went here for dinner one night, I ended up waiting for about 20 minutes to get in. Â
That being said, it's a fairly formal looking bar with a full menu. Â That's about it. Â I think it's kind of overrated. Â But, it's still solid food at a good setting.
This place is decent. Â Nothing that special. Â I tried the fried quail, which was way too salty. Â I also had the crawfish etoufeee, which was also pretty salty but had the right amounts of Cajun spices. Â The portion was pretty generous with a good amount of crawfish. Â If I ever get back to Midland, I might go back and try a steak from this location as that was the original intentions of trying the restaurant.
Review Source:Curiously, the menu is exactly the same as the "Mac's" locations in and around Dallas. Â Minus a few points for unoriginality. Â See for yourself at http://www.macsteak.com.
