These Asian Eats N Beats do it for me!
It's not the most upfront setting but once you step inside, it's totally worth it. The decor is trendy and the fact that they have two different menus to please all customers is fantastic. One menu focuses on traditional Chinese cuisine while the other is more American-inspired foods. They really do serve to all appetites (and that goes for drinks as well!)
Our waitress was friendly and very attentive to our table (especially since I needed a water refill roughly 12 times). My friend and I ordered the lettuce wraps for a starter, which were amazing. The curry sauce gave the meat a nice, healthy kick and being able to portion your own wraps and build them yourselves was a lot of fun. For my entree I ordered the Green Curry with shrimp. I was eyeing the Red Curry but our waitress was not off the mark when she warned me it was the hottest thing on their menu and that she loved spice but couldn't even handle it. When I looked doubtful, she suggested ordering the Green Curry and she would bring me a side dish of curry paste just in case I needed a little more heat. Needless to say, I never touched the paste. The curry was full of flavor and was a healthy portion with brown rice on the side for only $10. Â
I can't wait to head here again, it was a nice change from the usual places I hit up when I'm in Edwardsville!
The food was absolutely delicious. Being a vegetarian, I am always on the lookout for restaurants that serve delicious vegetarian menu options. Wang Gang is definitely one of those restaurants. You can order tofu (or beef, chicken, or vegetables) with any entree on the menu which means Wang Gang is VERY vegetarian friendly. I ordered the General Wang (which is their version of General Tso's) with tofu and brown rice. The meal was delicious.
My one complaint was that the waitstaff could have been a bit better. The waitstaff definitely was not awful, but there were times where we were left  at the table with empty water glasses for extended periods of time. The restaurant was quite busy so this may have been the cause.
Overall Wang Gang was a delicious restaurant.
After posting my review, I ended up speaking with the owner and our family went back for dinner.
110% different experience this time--food was amazing, service even better. Â Hubby ordered the kung pao chicken and while it was a bit on the spicy side (even for him) he said the flavor was amazing. Â I ordered a mongolian style beef dish, which came with large, flavorful strips of steak. Â We ordered my 3 year old the drunken beef fried rice, thinking we would just take home what he didn't eat--not only did he stuff himself, but hubby and I ate everything that was left because it was so delicious. Â We also ordered the chicken lettuce wraps and honestly, we weren't 100% sold on them, but they were decent.
Our only complaint is the parking--I've never seen such narrow spaces in a commercial parking lot and it's worrisome when you have a toddler who likes to open his own doors.
Asian Fusion... Â BUT mostly down home country?
Like a version of Americanized Asian chain PF Chang (like others pointed out), but someone saw the looks & did not get the flavor... Actually country songs came to my brain while I was eating the food.
I was in Edwardsville working on a Saturday night & wanting to treat myself because Saturday night/working is a bad combo.
I ordered the Dynamite Shrimp Salad (pic) to go. Â I usually adore Asian salads, but this was chopped iceberg, carrots, red onions & soft (not fresh) red bell peppers with a good amount of generic battered & fried shrimp- no fresh herbs, cabbage or noodles. Â The dressing was called "Dynamite", but I was singing "my little salads just a firecracker"
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D27-lMnzayso%26feature%3Dyoutube_gdata_player&s=875f10cd495423983ba827ca7ddcc44f58d962282bcb2ddac50795495e4b0c1f" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>
I did not get enough explosion of flavor to call it dynamite.
The salad was not bad- it was just a cute country version with a Asian inspired dressing that made me think "what was I thinking?"
<a href="/redir?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DYB0i1yjK_dw%26feature%3Dyoutube_gdata_player&s=58772de15ea0f2a5a58fabadee841ff30fa4bcd02a58fac81008ce432d0c217c" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/w…</a>
I also did enjoy a 12 oz Newcastle beer for $4 while watched my food being prepared without an Asian in the kitchen. Â I also pondered what the "beats" meant at the end of the name yet no DJ on a Saturday night...
Overall, the clean, friendly & value oriented restaurant seems like a stolen concept of a another stolen concept and has little substance as an Asian restaurant. Â Now, I will order a 5 star Asian salad from Thai Kitchen.
Food was good, almost gave it three stars because I asked for the General Wang without carrots but it came with carrots. I liked my husbands dish better, he got the Bangkok boom and it was verrrrry good. If you have kids, get a side of egg noodles and a side of steamed fresh veggies. Split them into two plates, Mine loved it and it was plenty! Yum, we will go back.
Review Source:I love Wang Gang. I've been there several times. Appetizers are awesome - crab rangoon is different than most but very good. My favorite is the drunken noodle. Spicy, but not too spicy. They also have these awesome island cocktails that are good & strong, and on the right day can be pretty cheap. Try this place out  - you won't be disappointed.
Review Source:Not impressed... Â Ordered the number one seller, drunken noodle with chicken with no egg... Â Received order and it had egg in it... Â No big deal they took it back. Â When I got my fresh order, not good, tasted like bad shrimp. Â The menu said it had a shrimp sauce, but that is all you could taste! Â The chicken didn't taste like chicken, just bad shrimp. Â When I went to order something else, I explained that I didn't like the drunken noodle. Â Was told that is how it is, people either like it or not. Â No offer to get me something else... Â Very expensive lunch, I don't think that was how the dis was suppose to be. Â Guess I got punished for them messing up my dish!
Review Source:I've ordered from Wang Gang several times now. It is their own brand of Asian food, and it's also nice that everything is fresh and house made.
IF their Lo Mein is made correctly, it's quite tasty, if not the best I've ever had. I've noticed, however, that sometimes it's fantastic and other times it's really not.
I've ordered the Drunken Noodle (chicken) 3 times, and it has been wonderful each time... the spice is perfect.
Love the lettuce wraps! Really good Vietnamese egg rolls and Crab Rangoon, and the sweet chili sauce is absolutely delicious.
My friend had the Pad Thai. He loved the flavor (he's quite picky), but the peanuts were whole and not ground like the menu had stated; that was truly his only complaint of the entire meal.
The portions seemed in-line with their prices, and the restaurant was clean. The service was excellent, also. Thank you Megan.
It upsets me that the Lo Mein has been inconsistent. I'd love to rate it higher, but I want to confidently order Chicken Lo Mein and it be the best I've ever had.... every time.
My husband and I are big fans of this American style Chinese eatery. Quality food and reasonable pricing. Their delivery system is really quick as well. I haven't eaten in but hear it is nice.
Their fried rice is awesome - you think, "Eh, it is friend rice" No. It is awesome and unique.
Favorite "chinese" in this area. Â Great flavor combinations and quality. Â Love their take on crab rangoon.
However, quality control has gone downhill. Â The Drunken Noodle will be mild one time, and so spicy you can't eat it the next. Â Not sure if this is due to new staff, new management, or if they're just getting lazy.
Overall, still my favorite.
Location not the easiest to see, but then Subway store (next door) has same situation. Decor is oriental table/chair sets. Ordering was straightforward. Wide menu. Drunken Noodles ($10) = large dish. No smaller offering. Traditional fried rice was, unfortunately, poor. Will visit again and compare. Has feeling of franchise.
Review Source:Ok so here goes, each time I've been there the quality or service keeps diminishing. Â What's going on? Â Last time the beef fried rice was nasty. Â I've tried their Pad Thai and hated it and they didn't care to make it right. Â Now they have waiters and yet I had to get a couple things myself at their self service bar. Â What?? Â This time I went and saw there was a Groupon to be used $9 for fried rice. Â I ask the waiter what is that for because none of your rices are $9 for a large. Â Where's the clarity? Â He says he'll ask the owner in back. Â Of course time passes and he still hasn't returned with an answer. Â Then I ask again after 20minutes. Â What's it for? Cause we're here and I'll buy it on the phone. Â Then I noticed it said good between 7-9. Â Then I'm told the owner said "we'll take care of you". Â I said ok and bought it. Â So I go to pay the bill at 645PM and the owner comes out to talk to his friends right next to us, ignores us and returns to the back. Â The waiter tells me oh you can get your money back from Groupon and still has no idea what the Groupon is for. Â My response will be well this is the last time I come here. Â Good luck.
Review Source:I've always enjoyed the food I've had a Wang Gang. I can't speak for the authenticity but it's always tasted good and to me has always seemed the best option for Asian food when you want a healthier option in Edwardsville. They also have deals regularly through their app and email newsletter.
Review Source:This is a solid place to have American style Asian food. I've sat in here a few times and the food was very good for the most part. The entrees were fairly well portioned and pretty tasty while the sides were portional compared to the price. Good food, but I'm not completely sure the juice is worth the squeeze as far as what you're paying vs. what is received as an establishment and quality. On the other hand, I have friends that absolutely adore this place, so to all their own, Â it is worth trying.
Review Source:I've been dreading having to write this review because obviously most yelpers (including some good friends) are very high on this place. I've been there twice and the food just doesn't do it for me; maybe I'm not going at the right time or ordering the right things?
The service was friendly and very quick (carry out while you wait? Impressive). But the food, the main reason we went there, was fairly bland. The shrimp and brocolli were very rubbery. Sure, I can add massive amounts of soy sauce or chili sauce (their's is actually very good) but you shouldn't have to do this.
I can't in good consciense, recommend this place to anyone.
One other thing that is bugging me.... the name. When I asked a few of the young ladies working there about the name, they giggled and looked at each other than stammered out something like, "Ummmm - they wanted something different that wouldn't be  copied..."right! Am I the only one who suspects a sexual Innuendo here? Wang Gang? Asian eats and beats? Big wang, little wang? (Google that word or look it up on Urban Dictionary). I might be wrong, but I don't think so....
I am a fan of all foods Asian. Â Thai, Chinese, Korean, Japanese - yes, please! Â However, Wang Gang would be more of a last resort for me.
The establishment itself has a pleasing interior design, but is incredibly tiny and cramped. Â You'll be hard pressed to get a group to gather here. Â The wait staff is just okay, and the location is badly placed.
The food consists of extremely Americanized versions of Chinese and Thai dishes.... and not in a positive light. Â The portions are relatively small, especially for the prices. Â Two stars for being edible, making an attempt at Asian flair, and not being a dump.
Had WangGangs delivered last night. It was wonderful! The guy on the phone was helpful and funny and delivery driver was as equally nice.
Tried a couple new things like the spicy wings which were great. Always wish they threw in a couple more crab rangoon. But I after the lettuce wraps, wings and 2 entrees I probably didn't need anymore. I did split this up with my family.
This is a high quality quick service restaurant. The fried rice lunch specials are the best deal in town .. quality/price. This is one of my regular lunch spots. Think PF Changs but MUCH better. The staff are very accommodating since I am a vegetarian. If you want your basic greasy Chinese food from a restaurant where they really don't speak English (you know what I am talking about) don't go here. It's called Pan Asian.
Review Source:In a world full of asian restaurants that all serve the same, boring food right out of a freezer - the Wang Gang is a welcome and tasty new addition on the scene. It's a tad more pricey but worth every penny. The food is very fresh and flavorful! It all tastes fresh made and isn't greasy like some asian restaurants. My favorite is the chicken lo mein. Generous portions, too. Environment wise - the restaurant is small but decorated very metro-chic. Classy! Well done Wang Gang!!!
Review Source:First of all, I gave the place (St. Charles) two tries. Â I was disappointed on the quality of food both times. Â During my first visit, I ordered the Pad Thai and it tasted as good as some of the better frozen TV dinners. Â The seasoning tasted too acidic from maybe too much vinegar??? Â The second visit I had the Thai Basil Fried rice with Beef combo and an order of the Asian Boneless wings. Â Once again, the fried rice tasted like something you would pop in the microwave and the boneless wing was certainly not fresh. Â It may be that I expect a lot of the asian cuisine, since I am asian, but it wasn't that good.
Review Source:This place is just ok for me. Â I can't see myself going back, although it is a out of my way.
I had the little wang fried rice with chicken. Â My dish was pretty good. Â It was missing a little something though, but after I added some soy sauce I was good to go. Â My husband had their take on general tso's, I forget what it was called. Â That was not nearly as good as my fried rice. Â It was lacking some flavor, and the chicken was not breaded like it traditional is w/ general tso's. Â Also on the down side is their tea. Â They do not have regular iced tea, they have a black currant or passion fruit tea, that's just not my thing.
The decor on the other had was really nice. Â Much nicer than I expected. Â I will also note it was a little warm in there.
Overall, it was an ok meal and was pretty cheap. Â It didn't really impress me though.
I was working late the other night and my boss offered to buy dinner, so I decided to try Wang Gang since I had heard so many good things about it.
I did something I almost never do, I ordered food for delivery, but since I don't work too far away from Wang Gang, I wasn't worried about the food being lukewarm or cold.
Since I needed to make a $10+ order to get a delivery, I chose the Cantonese Mushroom Noodles with chicken and a side of their Vietnamese Spring Rolls.
The noodle dish was good. Typical in Chinese takeout it was a large serving. I really liked the wide sorta thick rice noodles, and the soy sauce it was served with was also very good.
The spring rolls though were disappointing , They were small, skinny, and in my opinion over fried with not a lot of flavor. The sweet chili sauce that came with it was very sweet and had very little heat. Maybe I should of sprung the extra $2 for the crab rangoon that the menu says are hand rolled in house.
If you read my reviews, you will see that I already have my favorite place for Chinese takeout. Wang Gang is a little pricier then I'd usually like to spend for Chinese take out. While in whole I think the food is good, I'll probably only eat Wang Gang again if I'm out with someone who has their heart set on eating there
Someone else suggested that Wang Gang is P.F. Chang's on a budget, and I agree. The "budget" part means that you'll wait in line, order at the counter, and pick up your own silverware and soft drinks. The "P.F. Chang's" part is the food: Asian fusion, cooked to order, and brought to your table. Celiacs, many items can be ordered gluten-free, and there's a wheatless soy sauce available, too.
Our group started with lettuce wraps (seared chicken, red onions, bell peppers, Thai Basil, curry sauce) and spring rolls (shrimp, rice noodles, mint, Thai basil, cilantro and vegetables wrapped in rice paper and served with "Nuoc Cham," a spicy sauce). Â Then on to my "fried rice combination," a mere $6 for Thai basil fried rice with beef and a salad. Â Okay, so it's not quite P.F. Chang's, and the counter staff may need a bit more polish. Â But rarely have I eaten so much good food for so little $ and felt so healthy doing it! Â Taste + bargain + vegetables = a no-regrets, guilt-free lunch.
P.S.: At dinner, the Thai Spiced Peanut is my favorite, and Honey Orange a close second.
This place exactly what the three stars denotes: A-OK. The dude at the register was a little less than enthusiastic, but he was also swamped. I forgive you, dude.
The food was A-OK. We ordered the crab rangoon, and I have to say, I appreciate the way Wang Gang was trying to be different, but I love me some good old regular, crispy, fried rangoons. These were great, kind of like mini eggrolls, except stuffed with crunchy scallions and red peppers and plenty of yummy cream cheese. They were also served with a really interesting sauce that, the morning after, I still can't figure out what was in it. But while they were tasty, I'm one of those people who constantly goes back and forth about which part of a traditional crab rangoon I like best: the filling or the crunchy wonton wrapper.
Anyhoo, my Pad Thai was yummy, albeit a little bit too saucy, and the ingredients super fresh. They even threw on a cilantro garnish which really completed the dish. My husband had the General Wang, and we both loved how the menu described it as "Clearly our interpretation of General Tso's." Haha, clearly. I love it. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't the deep fried fare usually found in General Tso's, and again, fresh ingredients and great flavor. I will definitely get that next time.
Our experience was rounded out by great, spontaneous conversation with the older couple next to us (married 50 years!). The gentleman recommends the Drunken Noodles. They would know, they eat there once a week.
A-OK! We'll be back.
Great work! Â We love this place for both delivery and a nice sit down meal. Â The vegetables are fresh, not canned or frozen. Â All of the ingredients are of the highest quality. Â Each of us has a favorite meal, but, they are all well done. Â
The atmosphere is fun and upbeat and huge kudos go to the O'Days for their support of the local schools. Â Such a great local business.
I have had Wang Gang a few times now. I've had a few different dishes and the food has always been very flavorful and delicious. Definitely not your average Chinese buffet fare. I can tell that they take the quality of their food very seriously. Plus the atmosphere is very fun and lighthearted. They don't take themselves too seriously and I think this makes the whole experience that much better.
Review Source:This place just opened in Edwardsville and it was about time for some decent "Americanized" Asian food. I think they are trying to make this a fast food "P.F. Changs" and that's fine by me. The menu is relatively limited but it's perfect, because it has all the goodies you need! The place is rather small, but that's fine. So you go in, you sit, you take a look at the menu, then you go to the cashier order and pay, then get your drink and silverware, then they serve it and you are done. The things I tried were delicious, I got the chicken fried rice and my friend got the Kung Pao chicken, both delish! We also got the lettuce wraps- totally the same taste as in P.F. Changs, just cheaper. I am so happy this place is just next my house! I am so coming here every other day! You must try it! It's so cozy inside, staff is friendly.
