I'm conflicted on writing this review - this restaurant will soon have to relocate due to the pending Wally World expansion (boo!) and I hope they can make the switch and stay in business.
The ambiance is nice, better than most Asian restaurants, and the server was very professional. Did a table side assembly of my wife's vegetarian crepe's - which she really liked. I had the spicy chicken and it was good, too.
A couple of reasons I'm not giving them 4 or 5 stars:
The egg rolls were very oily. I couldn't finish mine.
The server delivered the wrong type of rice but to his credit, he corrected it later.
The price was a little high considering there are several other "Chinese" restaurants in town.
Overall, I might go back. Give them a try and you decide.
I've ordered out from here before and dined in several times and every time the food has been good. They have some great lunch specials though I have mostly just come for dinner. One dish I really like here is the Three Musketeers ($11) which is beef, shrimp, and scallops served with veggies, rice, and a great sauce they pour over the whole concoction at your table side and then your entire entree is bathing in a steam bath as it's presented to you. Probably fun for kids to watch. Speaking of which, they have four large fishtanks inside (one at the door, one at the back, and two nestled in-between some booths in the middle of the restaurant) that house several tropical fish and I think most young visitors would enjoy watching. Or at least those young at heart.
Two things that kind of bother me: the crab rangoon could be better. Here, they are dill flavored I believe and are lacking any sort of sweetness one may be accustomed to with Chinese restaurants. And secondly, the last time I came here with a group of friends, the waitress took some interest in me, and only me. I dripped red sauce on my shirt and she tried to wipe it up (as if I were a baby) and then when we asked for to-go containers she took my spoon from me and insisted on filling my to-go containers herself. I felt like I was being babysat and while some people might like this sort of treatment, I'm more than capable of packing my food in containers and it left me feel somewhat uncomfortable. Us girls still reference that last visit and the table service we, well, rather I had.
Dined here with a friend of mine on the weekend. Â The problem with reviewing Chinese food is that the low-to-mid-price restaurants are all very similar. Â They don't even bother coming up with original names (China Restaurant - what kind of name is that?).
Two things stand out about China Restaurant. Â First, the dining area is actually quite nice, having two large aquariums (one is definitely salt water) that will delight the children. Â Second, the prices on their lunch specials are so low it blows your mind. Â Most of them are $4.50 (some are a little more expensive), but you can eat here for lunch for about $8.00 a person, and that includes a soda, tax, and tip. Â Did I mention that you get two crab rangoon and soup with your meal? Â America owes a great debt of gratitude to the Chinese, first for building the railroads, and second for providing a cheap dining experience.
I've been to China Restaurant off and on for several years, and there's never been a problem with the service. Â In fact, Chinese restaurants usually have above par service, and I don't see why this trend doesn't apply to other mid-priced "American" restaurants.
Four stars for China Restaurant! Â Change your name to something different - I don't know, anything else sounds better - and I'll update my review to five stars.
