This place is overpriced!!!!! The burgers are okay, fries are horrible.
First time I went I got two meals, burgers, 2 beers and 2 glasses of wine. $$100 bucks later.
I was pissed since this place is nothing great and was not happy with my food!
100 bucks on burgers!! Ridiculous! I have been to way better burger places and didn't spend nearly that much. Never going back!

A laid-back pseudo-dive with Greenwich-y decor and many, many beers. Alright, let's give it a go. Menu is in the form of a newspaper. Interesting. Taco Tuesday is a big selling point here. Five tacos for five dollars, and they have about a hundred different kinds to choose from - though, disappointingly, you can't mix and match, you have to get five of the same. Still, a very cheap and pleasant lunch option.
VERY LARGE selection of burgers too, I had the blue pig (gorgonzola & incredibly crispy bacon) cooked rare, which was juicy as hell and well on the way to being delicious, but I was sadly let down by the fries, which were overdone to the point of being totally rigid - you know when you get fries, and there are little munchy bits left at the bottom? Imagine a portion of five-inch long versions of those. I think that may be their 'thing' - if it's your thing too, add a star to this rating. I like my fries to have some level of fluffiness going on inside the crunch. I don't think I'm alone.
This will be on a holding pattern of three stars until we go back. Five tacos for five dollars though? If it's Tuesday, you're hungry, and you happen to be in the demilitarized zone that is Liberty Street, give The Wherehouse a try.
In a town full of closed storefronts and urban decay this place breathes life into an otherwise struggling town. The burgers are plentiful and delicious and the prices are cheap. Its great to have a music venue that has actual places to sit down and order food. And have it actually taste good! If you ever find yourself in Newburgh check it out.
Review Source:One of the worst service experiences I have ever encountered. I went to the Wherehouse for a casual birthday dinner with some friends because I heard the food and the beer selection was really great... it was a lie. We walked in a were seated at a table next to the bar, waited about 20 minutes until the bartender acknowledged us and let us know that she would be "taking care of us". We all ordered burgers and beers and the waiting game began. We waited 1 hour for our food after I made a comment to the bartender and she gave me a nasty remark about the wait. The food was inedible There were flies on our plates, and the buns were so freezer burned they crumbled into our hand. After about 10 minutes of inspecting our food we decided that we were going to send it back. I couldn't get the attention of our waitress/bartender so I called over a staff member to let him know that we were very unhappy with the food. He said he was sorry and that it was kinda a weird night for them. I said that I understood and if he could just take back the food. When the bartender caught word of our unhappiness she immediately attacked. She was enraged that we didn't bring this to her attention because the guy who took our food back already threw it away and she wanted to see what was so wrong with it. I explained that the burgers were awful and informed her that we took a picture of how bad it was. She said that she didn't think she could take the burgers off the check because she didn't get to see them and the staff member who took them away  "Isn't even 18 yet so he's not a good judge". Meanwhile the owner of the bar is there the whole time watching and doesn't even intervene to remedy the situation. I told her I would pay for the drinks but I wouldn't pay for the food. After a back and forth with this insane woman she said she would ask the owner. I finally got her to take off the burgers and we left. It may have been a bad night in the kitchen but thats no excuse for the way we were treated by the staff and owner. I will never go back!
Review Source:The staff is great...but menu is too big and the food is edible but that's about it. Â Almost all the tap beers listed on the board are out of stock and what they do have has the wrong tap handle...no beer menu and when I asked the bar tender if the bottles displayed behind the bar are the what they have? Â She said no; but they do have "most" of them...so frustrating...how do I know what I can order?
I would go there again only if there was a band I wanted to see, otherwise I would opt for another location.
We live near Newburgh and know that the neighborhood The Wherehouse is in can be very sketchy (in fact, a guy was shot outside a bar just two blocks further down Liberty Street just a couple weeks ago).
We love the fact that this upstart is still (apparently) going strong (judging on the crowd there last night).
But, we were so disappointed at the experience we had.
The Wherehouse prides itself on is draft beer selection. The large chalkboard on the wall that faces the entrance had a few cross outs, but when there are almost two dozen beers on tap, a few dead soldiers here and there aren't that big a deal. But when I asked about some of the not crossed-out selections, I was told that they, too, were out. This makes me begin to wonder about the financial solvency and/or planning capabilities of the place. Will the lack of planning ahead or the lack of ability to pay vendors spill over into the food?
Well. The food overall was quite a letdown. The Wherehouse nachos were bland, and slathered (unusually) in an overly sweet barbeque sauce. Accompanied by sour cream, homemade salsa, and "guacamole", the dish wasn't worth the $12 it cost. The salsa was good, but the guacamole was watery(?) and tasted more like it was made from a package than from fresh avocado. Â This is a shame, considering how easy guacamole can be to make.
We ordered a side or zucchini fries. They were fried from frozen and were not fresh. Another letdown.
The hamburger (the "Blue Pig" which had bacon, gorgonzola, and "fried dusted onions") was slim on the onions. The beef itself was confusingly flavorless and dry, despite being cooked below the temp we asked for it to be. Red inside, there was very little flavor to this aside from the very strong blue cheese.
Our server, Erica, was a bright spot. She was pleasant and accommodating, didn't lurk, but attentive nonetheless.
I SOOOO wanted this to be a great experience. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it to friends for dinner, and for standard draft beer selections.
When the Wherehouse opened on Anne St. in Newburgh, I was skeptical it would find success (as I'm sure many others were). Â Boy was I wrong. Â This gastropub blends BBQ fusion, soul food and a rock n roll vibe to create an outstanding dinner/nightlife destination that can't be found for miles in any direction. Â If you're sick of the fratty waterfront vibe, go up the hill and check this place out.
Food-wise, try the pulled pork nachos, and if you're around on a Tuesday, check out Taco Tuesday as well.
The Wherehouse is a grungy little bar serving burgers, comfort foods, and beer. Â It is, as many other reviewers noted, in a sketchy part of town- but then again, it is Newburgh. Â They have an extensive burger menu with every topping you could imagine and lots of good beers on tap. Â They also serve comfort foods such as mac'n'cheese, nachos, hotdogs and bbq along with some vegetarian options. Â I was so excited to try some of the burgers and I went with a one that was topped with chorizo and pepper-jack cheese. The burger was cooked well but pretty disappointing- even with chorizo and pepper-jack cheese it was kind of bland. Â The potato wedges that come with the burger were not so good- they didn't seem completely cooked and they were cold. Â The mac'n'cheese wasn't particularly special either- seemed just like something I could make at home. Â I should also note that they don't serve liquor, just beer and wine.
Review Source:This place is definitely a bar. It's pretty loud most of the time and if you aren't sitting at the bar, service has the potential to not be all that great. Having said that, it's a great place to relax if you get there early, listen to some live music depending on the night, and have boisterous conversations if it's late.
They always have great beer on tap. The taps get rotated fairly quickly. The selection is some of the higher visibility craft brews like Sierra Nevada, and they also have a good selection of NY and North Eastern craft brews including Brooklyn Brewery. I hear they will also have a good supply of the upcoming Newburgh Brewery as well.
The burgers here are great, they are quite delicious... It looks like they have a burger for every taste with a whole menu just for them. Â The BBQ nachos are also a good highlight from the regular menu.
Taco Tuesday special is $5 for 5 tacos of 1 of a variety of fillings.
While the area this is located in isn't the greatest, I have never personally had any issues happen while visiting the Wherehouse.
*One thing to note, although the menu says it has Kobe beef burgers available, there is no such thing as Kobe beef outside of Japan as they do not export it.
The location is a little creepy, as other review have said, but don't worry. Â Park on the street and go right in, where you will be met by friendly staff. Â The beers on tap are great, and the menu is extensive. Â We had the hot wings and the nachos with chili. Â Both were very delicious. Â The atmosphere is cool and fun, with lots of album art on the walls and an easy going crowd. Â Good music too. Â Enjoy!
Review Source:We had a great dinner here!  The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The owner came over to our table and told us about weeknight specials.  There is an entire separate burger menu with over 30 different creations. We tried 4 burgers. I had the Socrates, (kalatamata olives & feta cheese).  Kids had Philly, (cream cheese, bacon & sautéed onions) & soul (Mac & cheese).  Husband had delancy, (pickles, cheese).  All served with fries. Can substitute sweet potato fries, fried green beans or onion rings for slight up-charge.  We tried them all and they were all fantastic.  The sweet potato fries were the BEST we've ever had! Would definitely return for more burgers or other menu items. Sorry it took us so long to find this place!
Review Source:I checked their website to see what their hours were and it said they are open 11am on on Sundays. Â I walked in at 11:30 on a Sunday and all the chairs were up and someone was behind the bar talking on the phone. Â She was looking right at me and I said are you open? Â She ignored me. Â I said it again, she ignored me. Â We just left. Â I guess my rating is on the service/hospitality not the food but i'll probably never try the food now, so whatever....
Review Source:I have have gone to the Wherehouse a couple of times now. Â The taco Tuesday special is great. Â I also had a Colby burger once that was very overdone. Â The reason I am giving the place 1 star is for service. Â The beer selection was great but the bartender was more concerned with watching a zombie TV show then service. Â It was to a point that I think she was angry when we wanted something.
Review Source:Newburgh -- that's some place! If you're into all varieties of Sketch, Dice, Seed, and Shade, Newburgh is your #1 Destination! We rolled through down en route to Beacon (aka "The Town Where Dia: Beacon Is") in pursuit of food. Meanwhile, as Katie's over in the passenger seat scouring Yelp for possible points of interest, the town is degenerating from rough to roughest. Apparently parts of Newburgh look like "The Wire: RUH-RUH-RUH-RUH-REEEEMIXXX."
And thus we came to The Wherehouse. It's a stronghold in what appears to be the "up-and-coming" section of the town (note the quotes), along with a gallery just up the block. The beer selection was pretty stellar ("Should I get bombed before we hit Dia: Beacon?") and a homemade vegetarian burger of Indian flare tempted the two of us. The Bhangra Burger, as I recall. It came with fries that were literally a quarter of an Idaho potato each (and cooked about 1/2 as long as they should've been). Burger was tasty, but literally had zero condiments. Zero toppings. We thus ruminated on ways to complete the dry, dry sandwich (aka "THE WICH"):
Fresh cilantro? Coriander chutney?
Tamarind or spicy tomato chutney?
Onions?
Other things???
Right. So that was The Wherehouse. Even despite the "EH" meal, it filled our gullets and warmed our hearts. A happy find, even if the food could've been better executed, y'know?
FYI I'm giving this place 2 stars based on the food. Â I suppose if you weren't going to eat here it would rate higher. Â
I came here recently for a date with a fellow veggie and found the food to be completely lacking in taste and inspiration. Â I ordered the Bangra Burger which was just two pre-packaged patties slapped on a bun. Â They were warm but so stuck together that I swear they were cooked as one. Â The burger came with lettuce, a slice of tomato and zuchinni fries. Â For $12.95 I thought it was completely over priced and underwhelming. Â My friend ordered the shrimp caesar salad (okay so he's sometimes a veggie) but they were out of shrimp so he had the salad plain and boy was it ever! Â
I ordered a bottle of Reisling at $36. Â The waiter, who while being eager to please, had no concept of how to serve wine. Â He plonked the bottle on the table and said "guess I should open it". Â The bottle was left to sit on the table without any kind of wine cooler to keep it chilled. Â I found that unacceptable and when I asked I was told there was no wine cooler available. Â Why serve bottles of wine if you don't teach your servers how to open, pour and serve the wine? Â Why not have wine coolers? Â Aargh...more money wasted I felt.
Luckily my date was the redeeming feature! Â
I like the Wherehouse for live music and its boho-chic scene in Newburgh but the prices and quality of the food leave a lot to be desired.
Yea, the location is a little seedy but once you are inside you"ll forget about it. The atmosphere of the Wherehouse was very fun and relaxing. Looooved the waitstaff. They were very friendly and none of them were texting their friends while serving me. Loooved the choice of beers. Â The menu had a couple too many choices. Burgers looked great but i got a chicken sandwich. All the ingredients were fresh. NO frozen reheated crud. Oh and the corn fritters were the best I've ever had. The only con was the bill. I don't usually pay $8 for a draft beer. Â Other than that I really liked the Wherehouse.
Review Source:Went here a while ago for a dinner w/ my brother & my boyfriend. Â Good food & really cool atmosphere I'd describe as groovy. Â Lot's of stuff from the 60s & 70s on the walls. Â They have vegetarian options, too. Â Service was good. Â The only reason I avoid going here is because of it's location in the city of Newburgh - not one of the safest places so I wouldn't recommend going alone. Â There's a public parking lot down the block, but I wouldn't want to park there & walk to the Wherehouse by myself.
Review Source:I was visiting friends in the Newburgh, NY area and my buddy had been raving about this particular burger joint for many months so we opted to go there for lunch on the Saturday of my visit. Â
As other folks have lined out the outside of the restaurant does not look all that enticing, but don't let that sway you. Â Its the inside and the good eats that count the most. Â As you walk in you see a sizable bar to the left and there are numerous types of bottled beer and some interesting choices on tap as well. Â I don't remember the pint that I had but it was a wonderful summery brew that had a hint of lemon to it and it was very refreshing on the hot summer day.
Food wise I kept my burger selection simple at a bacon cheeseburger but I did ask for pepper jack cheese on it. Â It came with some seriously thick french fries but there could have been more of them with the platter I ordered. Â It was also suggested that I try a sample of their chili and being a fan of the stuff I said what the heck and did. Â Very tasty blend for sure and its not easy to impress me with this concoction.
My dining companions had a mesquite burger and a kobe beef burger between them along with a heaping plate of their macaroni and cheese. Â I sampled this as well and it was very tasty. Â Our waiter was also very helpful in suggesting things we might like based on his own experience. Â Thanks dude, it was appreciated.
The Ambience: Â If you are like me and a fan of that which is Rock and Roll then you will love the decor of this place. There are albums and posters EVERYWHERE you look and there are so many vintage things your head will spin. Â I am not sure that these are original posters or just replicas but either way they are so awesome to see. Â There is also a back room with a small stage that bands perform on. Â I guess a classic Rock act from the region can make a name for themselves and grab an amazing burger between sets.
Will I come back? Â Oh for sure. Â I just need to make sure that I keep active right after it to not show a love of burgers on the gut. Â If you are in the Newburgh, NY area I think you owe yourself a chance to give this a shot.
Update - from a 5 to a 2?
My first experience was so good I gave this a 5. After 3 more visits, what a disappointment.
1st visit, great BBQ. My wife had vegetarian and raved.(hand cut fries were off note- underdone)
2nd try had the Kobe Burger (Hudson Valey magazine, top burger list),. Overdone, dry.
3rd try way noisy, poor service - but we felt that since they were closing for vacation, it might be a rare problem.
4th visit food was so so. Owner came in and asked staff why music wasn't turned up (quiet Saturday afternoon). Suddenly, coudn't here ourselves think.
Last visit (yup 1st one was so good), nisy, loud music, food OK
Stopped one last time - was too loud to go in. The music seems to be driving the place, not the food.
The "16 rotating craft beers on tap" - often far less. No beer menu, wait staff not helful - squeeze up to bar and look at taps only solution.
We switched to Billy Joe's Ribworks on waterfront.
As it is with many places in the U.S., except for my  yelp friends in the Pacific NW!, it is hotter than Hades here right now. Having said that, there was no way I was cooking dinner, so The L. And I went off ISO some new veggie options. Thanks to ye olde trusty yelp app and Kedar D's review, we decided to try The Wherehouse and their veggie/Vegie friendly menu.
While located in a lugubrious part of the City of Newburgh which seems to be making ways toward gentrification, it is not quite there yet but being inside The Wherehouse, one might think one were in a trendy neighborhood.
We had wanted to try the Potstickers, and the Baja Fritters but they were out and had been so for a few days. Huh? Make some more or perhaps they don;t make them on premises and bring them in??? I was a little disappointed to deduce that. They were also out of two other veggie options but luckily I had not wanted either. We had ordered Samosas but luckily there was a misfired communication and they did not show up which was just as well. We ended up sharing a small cup of the vegan chili which was good and came with tricolor corn chips. I washed them down with a Watermelon Wheat Ale which the waiter recommended and was spot on. :)))
For my main I got the Bangra Burger sans bun and with Zucchini fries. The burger two patties, piled on top of one another, were uninspired and had some strange grill marks on them though they were not particularly hot. I think they may have been pre-fab grill marks! ;))) The tomato slice which came with my "burger" was not properly ripened either. I had read such great things about their meat burgers in the latest issue of Hudson Valley Magazine and had hoped that that translated to their veggie burgers but it was not meant to be but I did like the fries. If they only showed the same passion and creativity with the Bangra Burger it would have been no doubt delish!
With a lively and loud atmosphere and plenty of draughts beers from which to choose The Wherehouse is a food scene for Newburgh's burgeoning historical district. I would go back if hungry and in the neighborhood but for outstanding veggie burgers, Poppy's still cannot be beat. But for beers et al. advantage Wherehouse.

SO FREAKING GOOD.  3rd time back and will return again.  the menu has a great variety of choices for what ever may suit your mood, from full out meat orgy to vegetarian/Indian choices.  the fries are fresh cut and more of a chip than a frozen fried french fry so many of us are used to.  the pulled pork nachos are a real treat. fighing for the last bite of the refried beans on the bottom of the plate is the best.  go on tuesday for taco tuesday.  you may have to wait a long time for a table and even your mean but for 5 tacos for 5 bucks its a steal  you  have your choice of pulled pork, chicken, steak, fish, brisket and chorizo tacos.  with the price so low, do what we do, order a plate of each.  $25 for 25 tacos.  the hamburgers are delicious.  my favorite is the one topped with a big old helping of mac and cheese on top!  they serve beer and wine only and from the selection of beer on the menu there has to be abouit 100 to choose from.  theres a live band.  all and all this is a great place to hang out for a beer and a great meal.  Everything is super fresh and perpared at order so you wait alittle bit for your food to come.  im pretty surprised that a place like this exists in newburgh.  this place is not far from the waterfront and the neighborhood can be a little shoddy, but dont let that scare you.  The food is wonderful.  3 desserts i'd recomed is the mojito cupcake (my sons and i fought to finish this one) and the banana foster cheesecake burrito.  Heavenly.  this is the opposite of chain food with chain restaurant prices.  go one tuesday.  get the taco's .  stay for a beer.  enjoy the band and dont be in a rush.  its worth the wait. Dont get mad at the kitchen staff or the waitresses.  i dont think the owners predicted their place would have been such a hit with the locals
Review Source:I don't get out to this area much, being from Connecticut, but after hearing that they had some vegan options, I decided to give it a shot.
Upon coming in, we decided to seat ourselves and it only took a few minutes for the waitress to come over and greet us.
A friend and I ordered the Vegan Marsala with a side of french fries.
It took about a half hour for the food to come and it really wasn't all that great. The potatoes were interestingly cut in discs, but were awfully greasy and had barely any flavor. The Marsala was OKAY, but I felt the sauce was way too heavy and the vegetables were kind of bland.
All of this and one soda brought us to just over 20 bucks. Not bad, but given the quality and service, I won't come here again.
I will say that the waitress was friendly, but everything seemed very slow. We came here around 4pm on a Wednesday, so it's not like it was peak time.
Located near the end of Liberty St closest to the Newburgh Waterfront district, The Warehouse is a wonderful little find for those who appreciate Southern style fare, BBQ, rock 'n' roll, and most importantly, the BEST burgers in all of Orange County! With over 40 different types of burgers to choose from, there's something for everyone to choose from. Plus, there's also a nice vegetarian menu section as well.
With vintage rock albums framed and adorning the walls, plus numerous classic late 60's & early 70's rock concert posters platered all over the walls, The Warehouse is a sight to behold for classic rock fans. You can spend hours just walking around the place looking at all the memorabilia, while you are sipping one of the many beers they have available at the bar (quite the selection actually!). By the time your food comes, be prepared for a feast-it's delicious, savory, and there's lots of it. The burgers are just spectacular-grilled to perfection, and with just about every topping combination you can think of, it's quite possible to have something completely different each time. And, make sure you try the sweet potato fries complete with real maple syrup to dip them in.
Tuesday night is Taco & Modelo night, and there is frequently live music on the weekends. All in all, a very cool place nestled in the heart of Newburgh, combining look of a Village hangout with the vibe of Woodstock. Make sure you check it out!
In an otherwise rough n tumble town known as Newburgh this place is an oasis for solid food and good drink.
I stumbled in for the 2nd time on a recent trek up the Hudson Valley looking for a local, non-chain pub/restaurant and this def fits the bill. With a mostly locals crowd, the place features a plentiful selection of craft brews, elevated bar food with the notable addition of several BBQ dishes.
In keeping with the area, the vibe leans slightly crunchy with a healthy selection of veggie options on the menu right on through to the aesthetics with jam band posters/paraphernalia adorning the walls. And if you head all the way to the back, there's live music.
great selection of burgers, sandwiches, chili, etc, and lots of vegetarian/vegan options as well! Â They also have a wide variety of beers to chose from. Â The Bangra Burger was best veggie burger I've ever had, and I've had quite a few! Â Very good, quick service as well. Â One tip...definitely get the sweet potato fries instead of the regular ones! Â The fries that come with the burgers tend to be a little mushy...if you order them I'd request them a little crispier than they usually come!
Review Source:I wouldn't have expected a place like this to exist in a town like Newburgh. It's a cool bar with an unusually vegan-friendly menu.
I got here at 11 a.m. promptly (their advertised opening time) but it didn't actually open until 11:30. At least a friendly worker there told me they were running behind.
I had the "Bangra Burger" ($11) which comes with fried zucchini sticks. The burger itself was pretty tasty, if just a tad dry (maybe adding some mushrooms to the patty, or some avocado and a soy marinade, could add some "wetness"). I also wish they served it on a wholewheat bun instead of white flour. The zucchini sticks were tasty but could have used a proper marinara sauce instead of ketchup.
I would suggest they add more vegan options (tofu or seitan tacos, a lasagna made with TVP bits, maybe some vegan bagel breakfast sandwiches with Daiya cheese and tofu and/or seitan and fakin' bacon, tofu scrambles, etc.) and it would warrant another star.
The service was friendly and prompt. All in all, this is a cool joint and worth a stop if you're passing through the area.
