From the outside it looks like an average place, and even the decor, table and chairs, etc., are just alright. Â But the food is excellent!
Our table had a variety of dishes:  chicken Caesar salad, salmon, a flat-iron steak, and a chicken entrée.  All were exceptional. Â
Great beer and wine selection. Â Bread at our table was warm and very good. Â The waiter was friendly and accommodating. Â Desserts looked great! Â The hostess could be a little friendlier. Â
I would go back anytime.
A Must Read Review!!! This one is a doozy, so get ready!!!
Just a few days ago, my family and another walked into Whiskey Creek expecting a nice relaxing meal. Now we understand that Mammoth is going through some tough financial times. That said, we would expect places of business to do what they can to exceed expectations and truly deliver a quality experience no matter what the final total says on the check.
Anyway... with three young kids joining us for dinner, we were looking for something good and fast. First the manager and hostess gave off the air that it would be tough to fit us in since we didn't have a reservation. They were open for :05 mins and one table was taken at a place that has multiple floors! If only they turned us away, we would have never continued with this nightmare of a dinner.
So we get a table and put in our order. While waiting, I asked the hostess if they had anything to occupy the kids. After putting her personal phone down, she provided appropriate kid's placemats and crayons. Why these were never provided from the get go... I have no idea.
Now for the food. Overall the food selection is boring and tasteless. The burgers are claimed to not be frozen, but they sure do taste like it. Everything is overloaded with sauce or dressing.
One of WC's biggest issues lie in their lack of attention to detail...
1. My wife and I each ordered a salad with dressing on the side. Both came back DRENCHED. When we asked to have it remade, the server's first response was to add more lettuce to balance out the salad. After saying this is not ideal since there is so much dressing, they went to remake them. So what happens next? The salads returned again with tons on dressing on them. I mean come on!
2. My son is GF and we asked for the kid's hamburger, but no bun. We also informed the server of his allergy. Well what happens? His burger arrives on a bun. So that had to be fixed.
3. A friend of ours doesn't like mushrooms. She ordered a pasta and asked that they not come with it. Oh they weren't in the pasta when it arrived... just on the side! Why would someone want a side of mushrooms. Not a huge deal, but just goes to show a lack of detail on the service and kitchen.
3. For one of the kids she asked for reg fries and not sweet potato fries... she got SP fries.
4. Now if for some reason you decide to still dine here and you're in the mood for a burger, just order off the kid's menu. It's the same size as an adult burger and you get the same amount of fries. Only difference is around $4.50. We inquired why this was the case with the mgr and he provided some weird reason that they don't charge the same amount for kids since they don't eat the same amount. Our response is... Why not just make the burgers smaller? I mean that seams like a waste of meat on their end and would avoid this issue of overcharging adults.
So in the end, out of 7 orders... only 2 were right. An adult burger and a kid's grilled cheese.
Just avoid this place at all costs. The end.
Went for happy hour and the locally brewed beers. We went upstairs. The place needs some paint, patching and recarpeting. Two of the draught beers were out but I did get a Real McCoy Amber which I enjoyed. We had the appetizers: the calamari, the size of a little finger, was breaded, limp and did not taste like any that I ever had. The sliders were so so. BTW, found a hair in my calamari.
Ambiance = 2
Food =2
Service =3.5
it is sad to see this place, slipping away.
This review is for the bar/night club upstairs. For a bar/nightclub in the middle of Mammoth it isn't too bad. The crowd was mostly white Americans (being from LA I found this really amusing). The DJ from that night put on hits that were dated and mixed the most unusual types of genres (house and rock, comeon really?). The drinks are priced reasonable. Pretty much for a place in the middle of Mammoth. It isnt too bad.
Review Source:The Whiskey a go-go this is not... Â A Zagat rated 5* joint it isn't either. A joint with HH in Mammoth, not all that common... Â It's just an interesting Mammoth joint...
HH is only in the upstairs bar. I haven't eaten at the posh (for Mammoth) sit down restaurant downstairs in years. Â However they do serve several steaks and its tasty, but for my money's worth, I would rather go to the mogul or the restaurant at convict lake.
None the less $4 off a pitcher or a buck off a pint and some cheaper apps makes for a great post ski meal upstairs in the bar area. The tables and bar are all open seating so if you spot one, I suggest you jump on it... no not literally that is just too wwf-like but yeah you know what I mean...
Pro Tip: In the evenings on Fridays or Saturdays they sometimes have free drinks for ladies in the bar...
At night at least during the winter they have a DJ spinning with the ability to dance, granted not many are out there dancing and some that are dancing are rather scary looking. It's almost like watching drunken camels and kangaroos trying to dance. Humps, Bumps, Pouches, Arms and Legs are flailing everywhere with a lil bit of slobber, spit, drinks sloshing around...
So if you can make it here for HH and/or some free drinks then it's definitely well worth it. If not, then its kinda ehhhh... nothing that outstanding or making me want to get out of the cabin specifically for...
Randomly picked this place to come after a day of snowboarding. Â Happen to pop in during happy hours, GREAT deal on food and beverage!! Â it's a nice way to end a beautiful day!
They have happy hour everyday from 4-5:30pm. Â the discount is greater on the mammoth mountain brewing company beers, i don't drink beer, but their cocktails are not that expensive. Â Husband was loving the deal on beer though. Â
certain menu items are also half off. Â I had a delicious flat iron steak that was originally 29 dollars, and paid about 15. Â can't beat that deal.
we left before the night crowd kicked in, cuz we were tired. Â but I see that there's a stage for live music, I'm sure this place is fun at night.
If you are one of those people that ride until the last chair, then this is the perfect place to catch happy hour after the mountain closes. Although you may want to leave a bit before Mammoth closes to come grab a table upstairs if you have a big group.
Happy Hour Specials:
- $4 off pitcher or $4 beers. I believe Mammoth Brewing Co is brewed here so try the local beer.
- Anything on the menu that is underlined, is 1/2 off! And yes, there are plenty of things underlined.
There are multiple TVs broadcasting whatever sporting event is on. Service is super slow and does leave much to be desired but hey, we are all on a mini-vacation at the mountain so we can chill for now.
We all have had a crispy chicken club sandwich, well that's what I ordered. Was it crazy good? No, but did it hit the spot after eating PowerBars and RedBulls all day? YES! And a double YES for the price!
Whiskey Creek has one of the best happy hours! Everything on the menu that is underlined is half off. They offer a vast selection of happy hour food such as appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, and etc. Happy hour is offered in the bar, which is located on the second floor.
Sometimes finding the best spots in town is by accident. My friends and I parked in Whiskey Creek's parking lot in order to wait for our caravan to catch up, and ended up talking to some locals, whom recommended Whiskey Creek for happy hour.
About a few minutes before the restaurant opened, there was already about 25 people waiting to get in. I guess you know it's a good spot, if there's a line prior to opening.
Food:
I had the Parmesan-Herb Calamari Strips and Grilled Chicken Club Sandwich.
The calamari strips came with two sauces: spicy horseradish cocktail sauce and habanero mayonnaise. The sauce and mayonnaise did not have a kick, but did provide some added flavor. The calamari strips looked like fried cheese sticks, but they were delicious.
The chicken sandwich was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The homemade bread was fantastic! The sweet potato fries were crispy and salted just right.
The food was filling and tasty. This place offers some of the best bar food I've had.
Side Notes
Ambiance:
The bar is pretty spacious and offers a large amount of seating. Since it is a bar, expect the noise level to be a bit on the louder side.
Service:
Our server was actually really good, considering the place was packed and she was helping with a lot of tables.
Overall:
With a wide selection of food being half off, there's no reason not to try. This place offers one of the best happy hours!
I have visited Whiskey Creek 3x since I've been coming to Mammoth on a yearly basis. I would come here more often, but I dont' like spending a whole lot of money if I'm going to be shelling it out snowboarding and on lodging. I do however think the prices here are reasonable for the quality of the food.
I am giving this place 3 stars due to horrible service I had the first time I went here with a big group. Here's the experience:
We made reservations, and it took 45 MINUTES for us to get seated - with a reservation? WTF!!!!! I was upset and so was my group. We didn't get any compensation for the inconvenience - no discount on anything, not even a free appetizer. What's the point of even making a reservation if you don't seat us w/in 10 minutes of arriving there for our reservation?
OTHER EXPERIENCES:
STAFF:
The waiting staff here is soso - service is either on par, or it sucks - hit or miss if you ask me. Another reason I gave this place 3 stars.
FOOD:
Food is wonderful here. It doesn't matter what you order, you are going to be happy. I usually get the meatloaf or pork chops. I'm not a big fan of pork chops (I guess b/c I've never had it cooked really well), but they are so yummy here - I literally salivate thinking about them as I write this review. Mahi mahi is good here too. Their rosemary bread is to die for!!!!
Ambiance:
Eh, it could use some upgrading if you ask me. Nothing special here.
I would still come back here over and over. The food makes me return every single time.
two weeks before i came to this whiskey creek, i went to the whiskey creek in bishop. going to that restaurant was the BEST decision our family made. but i'll write that review later.
if you come to mammoth, it seems as though there aren't that many great restaurants. everyone is stuck up in the snow snowboarding and skiing and eating at the over priced cafeterias at the lodges.
whiskey creek was AWESOME by the standards of any restaurant. service was fantastic, the food was delicious, and it was dimly decorated like any nice and relaxed restaurant you'd find.
a lot of the people going here were older, but their target market is anyone who is there at ALL. families, old people, young people.
i had the ribeye. it wasn't the best ribeye i've ever had, but it was cooked well to the medium rare that we asked, and then the bread in the beginning is so yummy. they come in different types with some having dill and some being sourdough-like. and as a group of 10, we were shown such great attention.
if i ever go to mammoth again, i will be going here. i can't give it 5 stars only because the food was good, but not THAT good. i have spoiled LA taste. sigh. im sorry :( BUT GO HERE.
Come here for happy hour upstairs, a bunch of things are half price.
Food:
- Flat Iron Steak was very tender and full of flavor, served with a mountain of mashed potatoes, a steal at $7
- Buffalo wings were breaded perfectly and had a sauce that had plenty of spice but not too much heat.
-Angus sliders were tasty as well, but they basically had mini pieces of steak in them vs ground. They had a delicious sauce on them and carried a ton of onions.
- Beer selection is okay, not amazing. But they have a few local favorites and the usual suspects.
Ambiance:
We sat upstairs in the bar, which has a ton of tvs playing sports. It was pretty empty when we were there, but during peak times I'd imagine it gets loud. Still, it has windows all around so you can look out on the town. Can't comment on downstairs, but the restaurant seems reasonably upscale by Mammoth standards.
Service:
Our server was very pleasant and attentive, and wasn't afraid to offer suggestions off the menu.
Overall:
If you're looking for a $$-$$$ type dinner in Mammoth, definitely come here over the similar but poorly executed Chart House. Coming during happy hour lets you get $$$ food for $ prices.
The hubs and I have gone to Whiskey 3 times in the last few months. One for regular dinner and twice for their happy hour. The service during dinner was pretty average. Our server disappeared a lot but the food was really good so we let it slide. Agreed with other reviewers that the hostess is virtually nonexistent. Definitely recommend just coming for the HH so you can walk right upstairs and not wait around for the hostess to acknowledge you.
Our other 2 experiences during HH were great. We had different servers each time but they were both attentive and on top of it, even when it got packed upstairs. Sorry, can't remember their names but they were both blonde. Great job, girls!
We usually order the calamari and pork sliders for apps. The calamari is better than most and it's always hot and crunchy when it gets to our table. The pork sliders are really tasty and have a great flavor. The flat iron is cooked to perfection each time. I tried the teriyaki salmon on a whim and that was super flavorful and delicious as well! We tried the ribs last time and they were good but there are better things on the menu.
After a long day of hiking at Devils Post Pile, my friends and I were famished. So we hit up Whiskeys and it happened to be during happy hour (YEASSS!) . We got the honey cayenne pepper wings and bacon wrapped meatloaf (yes, fatty over here) and it was like a party in my mouth. Completed my food with a glass of IPA on tap.... I didn't regret one bit or sip of that meal.
Service was friendly and quick. We sat upstairs at the bar which had a gorgeous view. Big screen tvs everywhere, and also a pool table. Ambiance was nice... Mainly adults to older adults during happy hour. I recommend this place to anyone if you're ever in Mammoth Lakes.
There's also a whiskey creek in bishop. On the 395
Had dinner on a Sunday night in October. Â The food is a 4 stars while service is 2 stars. Â While there isn't much traffic in mid-October, they had only had one server for the entire restaurant. Â He talked too fast, was inattentive and missed an order. Â
I had the butternut squash ravioli which was tasty. Â I tried the fish tacos (very tasty), ultimate meatloaf sandwich (who could pass up bacon wrapped meatloaf) and chicken pot pie (my only complaint was the crust is way too thick). Â Their bread is delicious!
Food: four stars.
Ambience: two stars.
Service: three stars.
I had entree salad with salmon, moist, flavorful, well seasoned. Probably one of the best salmon I've ever had, by it self or on top of salad.
My dad had the trout. He said it was the best trout he ever had. Hmm.... two exceptional dishes so far.
My friend had the Asian chicken salad. He thought it was good, not exceptional. The chicken was very moist and flavorful (just like the salmon description).
Verdict: not a bad restaurant but will probably go back only if Chart House isn't open. CH has much better ambience and more professional servers.
We visited Whiskey Creek early on a weekday night in summertime, which is probably the slow season. The hostess was busy chatting with someone who had come in to visit her and did not acknowledge us for a minute or two, which was annoying. The hostesses main job is to greet guests cheerfully and get them to a table pronto! Â
We were seated at a table with a view of the mountains and were presented with menus promptly. The waitress took our order quickly and service was prompt due to the small crowd that night. I enjoyed the steak sliders and the accompanying sweet potato fries were crisp and hot - right out of the fryer. My husband enjoyed his California burger and fries.
Prices are higher than we'd expect to pay at home, but probably par for the course in a resort area.
On the way out, that same hostess was reading a book and didn't look up or even acknowledge us in any way..... that young lady either needs some more training or to start looking for another job - this one isn't going to last....
This place is pretty solid. Â Good beers on tap, happy hour isn't the best deal but it's not too terrible; atmosphere is decent. Â When I lived in Mammoth this was our standard spot. Â
Two things: Â a) there is NO wi-fi, and b) there are barely any veggie options on the food menu. Â If they took care of just these simple issues it would improve the place dramatically.
Ate here on 5/26.  I've visited 'The Creek several times over the years and while reasonably satisfied, I just was terribly unexited about a  menu that hasn't been updated since 1997. Reluctantly our party chose to eat here, so I went along with low expectations.
This visit found the same gimicky salads still in place on the menu, and the same dull appetizer offerings.  Suprise was the absolutely  fantastic Coca-Cola Pork Chop, cooked to absolute perfect medium. It was full of flavor. Outstanding! Beer selection and prices are above average.  This place provides solid comfort food. If parts of the menu recieved a face lift, it could quite easily return to its glory days. For now it remains a reliable choice.  Bar/tasting room upstairs is very popular with daily specials from 5-6. Okay for kids, not a romantic destination anymore.
My boss and fellow coworkers promised me that this place was great eating an so I skipped out on my customary $9 chili dog for lunch while boarding and just had two energy bars and an energy shot to get me through the afternoon session.
Boy it was worth it!
After a whole day of boarding there's nothing I crave more than some comfort food - enter WC's Baked Wrapped Meatloaf! This this is SUPER BOMB with mashed potatoes and a corn sauce! I would order it again without any hesitation. Several of my fellow boarders raved about the Pesto Chicken Pasta as well. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try the drink selection here and will have to come back again for that.
One note is that the place was not that busy and we had waiters coming by at least every 10 minutes asking how everything was. It bordered on intrusive but was still nice to see that they're dedicated - I salute you WC staff!
And remember .. ..
YOU WANT BACON WRAPPED MEATLOAF =)
We've always heard good things about this place for the years we've been going to Mammoth for snowboarding. Â Finally went to try it on a Saturday night for dinner.
We were seated at the lower level, which I wasn't too impressed about. Â It was a little better than a storage basement with tables and chairs (although there were booths). Â The service was great, and the food was pretty yummy. Â I had the skirt steak - asked for medium rare, came out rare... Â Not that I couldn't eat it, but I still prefer to get what I asked for. Â Sweet potatoes fries were crispy and seasoned just right. Â Tacos and pasta were also wonderful accordingly to my friends.
It's a little pricey but not outrageous. Â Plenty of parking in the private lot.
I think this place is way overrated. Â I ordered the steak and potato happy hour item some local coworkers raved about and the steak was pretty small and no veggies came with it. Â Just meat and potato. Â Needless to say I was disappointed. Â The reviews I had read got me all pumped and excited about trying this place for the first time. I didn't come in here on my last work deployment 3 years ago. Â Had I known, I probably wouldn't have come in this time.
The meat tasted great and came fresh and hot but I think that was the only good thing I could say about it. Â I could have eaten two and it wasn't that cheap for what it was. Â The place was freezing cold like someone forgot to pay the gas bill and I left there wondering what the big deal was about it. Come on really guys? Â This place wasn't all that. Â
Yes, they have a ton of beer so if you want decent beer you have lot's of tap options but you can find really good beer at most places up in Mammoth Lakes.
Don't forget to wear full winter gear to keep yourselves warm inside. It's too cold to be sitting around drinking cold beverages. Â I'd say to get a hot drink because you fingers will become icicles if you don't.
My family and I have been vacationing in Mammoth since I was a baby. It has gone back generations in our family and we try to have a reunion every summer. Mammoth is simply awesome. And the addition of Whiskey Creek years back has just added another nice element.
Generally speaking we're pretty active while we're in town. Always running around, hiking, fishing, exploring new areas. But due to my ongoing quest to ruin my liver I have to hit up the Brewery at least once per trip.
I'm not going to say it has the BEST food. Or the tastiest beer. But all around It is above average at the very least. Reason it gets 5 stars is because all of the little things add up to make it great. And here they are...
They don't judge. My first time going here I was at that Bluesapalloza /Brewfest all day. Completely hammered I literally dragged my mom up the hill to the brewery to feed me. I'm pretty sure she was embarrassed and thought I had problems, but she's my mom. She's forced to love me regardless. Evidently one of the waitresses thought it was cute I was hanging out with my mom so she flirted with me. The entire time. Either that or I was making shit up in my head because I was drunk. But whatever. 2 stars for hospitality.
Happy hour. They have certain items on their menu that are 1/2 off. Beer is cheap too. Be warned, it becomes crowded as soon at the doors open at 5. But it's worth it. Seeing how I had to sell my body for 10 years to be able to afford 1 week in Mammoth, (We all know how pricey the town is) Â it was nice to get a break on my wallet here. You can literally get a non-sandwich meal for under $8. 2 stars for that.
Views. Like I said, we have these reunions during the summer. Typically there are thunderstorms in the late afternoon. It's awesome to sit in the brewery, look over towards the Sherwins/Laurel Lakes area and watch the storms form after a long day of hiking. Star for that.
Last but not least. Location. As years have gone on we have upgraded from camping at deadman creek to renting multi-million dollar homes in the area. Typically near Starwood golf course. This is good because I can walk to the brewery. It's also close to the village so if I want to continue partying I can easily crawl there. 1 star for that.
That's my equation for coming up with 5 stars. It's not a science people. I'm doing the best I can. As you can see overall it's a nice place. So give it a shot. If you disagree with me? Something is wrong with you. Immediately delete your  Yelp! account if you give this place less than 4 stars. Obviously you don't know shit from shinola. If you've ever seen the Jerk you'll know what I'm talking about. It's all that really matters.
Love, Bryan
After a week on the trail backpacking, my group was hungry and looking forward to a a good meal in town.  The half-price  happy hour pricing on some of the  the entrees and the sandwiches made coming here even  more attractive.
The upstairs was packed when we arrived. Â All the tables were taken, but a string of stools on the skinny bar behind the pool table was open. Â The server told us it was okay to to get service there, so we did.
The salads were included in the happy hour half-off deal. Â A nice, freshly-tossed green salad is quite appealing after a week of dehydrated foodstuffs. Â All six of us ordered a salad.
Most of us opted for the small ( 6 oz?) flatiron steak plate with potatoes. Â [note: the double-sized flatiron isn't included on the happy hour menu, but you can order TWO of the small steaks and still get the half-off deal. Â [Kudos to the server who volunteered this information!] Â Mind you, the small flatiron was ~plenty~ for me. Â A couple of the guys were big eaters that proceeded to order, then neatly tucked away, a double order of steak.
The steak was served in a reasonably short time after the pitchers of Paranoid IPA brew and the (separately ordered) salads.  Even though they were busy and bustling with people, the orders were served  with good timing and correctly.  The IPA was quite good...I liked it even though  I am generally not a big fan of the India Pale Ale style.  This one was hoppy, but not over-the-top.
The salad was well-made and good! Â
The steak was cooked medium-rare as I'd ordered. Â It was tender and entirely delicious. Â The mashed potatoes were garlicky and good.
I have no complaints.
As the place started to thin out a bit, we migrated to a vacated table to finish our drinks and have a bite (or two) of dessert to round off the evening. Â
The atmosphere was busy, yet friendly. Â Â Maybe it was because we were pretty outgoing and affable a bunch that was starving for food & drink, but we definitely got good service and did not feel ignored in the least. Â I give kudos to the server that we had: Â she was upbeat, cheerful, and as attentive as we required.
I'd definitely return to this restaurant the next time I'm in town.
I was a little worried about coming here since most reviews talk about how great their happy hour is. I wanted to eat dinner and have been seeing this place for years but never stopped in.
The interior is like most restaurants in Mammoth, warm wood walls, old country-style chairs. Not spectacular but cozy and inviting never the less.
I had the flank steak and yukon potatoes. I washed it all down with the local brew, a Mammoth Brewing Paranoid Pale Ale. The steak was excellent and prepared to perfection. The potatoes were good too. It was all topped with caramelized onions which were tasty. Service was good but not overwhelmingly so. The waiter did his job but was lacking in personality. I feel in general that if a place is considered more upscale(by Mammoth Mountain standards) then the service should reflect that and be more personable and friendly. It wasn't, but the food made up for it and I'd come back here.
Happy Hour Review,
We got here a little after 4, a friends suggested that it's the best time to come. Anytime after that will be too pack and we won't be able to get a table.
We ordered several appetizers from the happy hour menu (1/2 any underlined items:
Crab Cakes: Moist and tasty. It also came with mixed greens and 4 different dallop of aiols. It tasted good but somehow I have a feeling they get it from Smart & Final.
Hot wings - Hot wings are usually the same at other restaurants, but not here. They are tasty and not too tangy. Blue cheese dressing is perfect for these wings
Pulled pork sliders w/sweet potato fries - absolutely tasty and so delicious! Must get.
Ceasar salade chicken - chicken was freshly grilled and juicy.
I'll defintely come back!
Sorry but not impressed. We ordered prime rib, med rare. 4 orders came out med. I felt mine was more med well. The service was nice, the mash potatoes were ok, the horseradish cream sauce was more cream than horseradish.
Maybe their other stuff is better?
The club was ok. No cover that evening (Saturday). We were only there for a moment. It's pretty crowded so if you're looking for that kind of scene try here.
I need to write two separate reviews for this place.
#1: Happy Hour - 0 stars! Worst ever!
yeah yeah, it's 50% off but it's still hella expensive.
- If you get there after 4:30pm, there's no seats! I truly do not understand the popularity of this place!
- Beef sliders $7 and that's half off? what a rip off.
- only beer specials (a measly $1 off), no cocktails or wine discounts
- my friend ordered a steak and specifically told the waitress no onions b/c she's allergic. They brought her the steak w/ onions on, she returns the steak and had them recook another one. The waitress gave her a huge attitude AND charged her for both!!! wtf?
#2: Late night - 4 stars!
- Full of douchebags
- Drinks are more reasonably priced than Hyde down the street
- Go go dancers are very cute! They dance on fri and sat nights only.
- Music is awesome!
I make a point to go to Whiskey Creek very time we come to Mammoth.
The best happy hour for food (and drinks) upstairs.
Selected dishes are 50% off. Its short 4-5:30 so try to get there early because you won't be able to find seats later on.
Certainly during busy times this place a bit loud... well its a bar after all.
Don't be fooled by the look of the place, you won't get your regular bar food there instead you will see seared ahi tuna , steak, salmon, ribs or pasta dishes on the menu. Everything tasted even better after a day of snowboarding!
This time i decided to try pesto pasta with grilled chicken and pine nuts. The potion was just right, the dish was flavorful not oily. My friends got grilled terriyaki salmon with wasabi mashed potatoes - just a plate presentation was already delicious looking. I had to try a bite, salmon was grilled perfectly, flaky, and still moist. Mashed potatoes.. even thou sounded not appetizing to me at first because of wasabi, surprisingly didn't have any taste of it, just a slight aroma, went perfect with salmon.
On a busy weekend, expect to pay cover. We paid $10 on the Thursday before New Years and it was an alright time.
For NYE, everywhere (Hyde, Canyon Lodge, Whiskey Creek,...) was $100+ to get into. I ended up at Grumpys for only $10 cover and it was actually fun but for some reason I thought WC would be more fun. Even though we didn't have a ticket, it was easy for us to sneak right and and enjoy the New Years festivities. Open bar, free champagne at midnight, and basically, a room half full of people! So glad we didn't pay the cover!
A few days later we came back for late appetizers which were pretty good. About $10 a plate and the portions were fair.. The place was empty but it was oddly nice having the upstairs room to ourselves.
Overall, I had a good experience at WC and will definitely be back to finally try the happy hour!
Another 3.5. I'd say average, but bc of the lack of superstar restaurants in Mammoth, I'd give it an extra half.
We had a reservation at 8:15 and were early, so decided to head upstairs for the bar. I proceeded to ask for a cabernet, and the bartender said they only carried J.Lohr. A glass of this everyday supermarket bottle cost $7.50. Ugh. We also decided to get the beer tasting, which was pretty good. There were six different kinds. That was worth it for the $10.
When we got seated at our booth, it felt like....a telephone booth. I could only fit my bum on it, and even then my jacket and my scarf fell at some point in the evening. The table was clearly too small for the waiter, too, who proceeded to SPILL my glass of scotch when he placed our appetizer of spinach artichoke down.
And get this - whiskey creek is known for its brewery and selection of beer, right? When we asked a different waiter for his recommendation as to a good beer for dinner, he replied he didn't drink beer and really wouldn't know, and could go ask the bartender for us. WHAT?? I'm afraid these waiters weren't even old enough to drink....management needs to do a better job in training.
My raspberry salmon salad was incredibly sweet on the sauce, but the fish was a generous cut and well prepped.
The NY steak was also a large and thick portion, pretty much demolished.
But I think my favorite part of the meal was dessert. We had watched platter after platter of sweets pass us and decided (without looking at the menu) on a sundae. The waiter said there was the original and the cookie monster version. No question as to what we ordered. :) One large chocolate chip cookie was split and stuffed into a mound of vanilla ice cream with hot fudge, all over more chocolate chip and brownie chunk cookies, hidden under a mountain of whipped cream. Yowzers.
We had good times eating here this past weekend.
The calamari was awesome, but unfortunately my meal wasn't that great. Neither so many people, except Filet Mignon, that was awesome, gotta order that next time.
It's one stormy, blizzard night in Mammoth, being inside Whiskey Creek was just great, cause it's warmer than being outside and there were lots of laugh heard from our table.
I ordered:
Calamari for appetizer - this was AWESOME, totally different than the other calamari I've ever had in my life, the sauce had a kick to it.
1/2 slab of bbq pork ribs - $21.95
I didn't particularly enjoy my pork ribs that came with cajun corn, and sweet potato fries as the ribs were not easy to cut, the meat was just too hard. I couldn't rate this place lower than 3 stars, because I've only been here once and the service was pretty good.
Even tho we had power outage thankfully after the dinner was over, our bill had some issue, because I think they needed electricity to use the calculator. They eliminated taxes on our bill and I believe they forgot to include a couple of beers, but since my friends were drunk, they didn't even remember anything.
All in all, I would still come back next time to try, cause I heard this is the happening place in Mammoth, plus it's a walking distance away from our cabin when we came. Also, supposedly there's a fire pit where you could sit and make smores, so after a day on the slope, I think doing that would be great, so next time, I'll surely update my review.
Thank God we didn't drive our RV here, cause there's no space for it.
Read about this place on Yelp while visiting Mammoth, so our group decided to try Whiskey Creek for a little food and beverage. We started out sitting around a big table in the bar, room for all eight of us. That was nice, the service was good, drinks came fast and were flowing. Â We ordered appetizers: spicy wings and calamari. Both were good. Next we went to the pool tables. These tables have seen better days. We were fairly well lit up so it was fun.
After hanging out an hour or so we went downstairs for dinner. I ordered a new york steak, wasabi mashed potatoes and asparagus. The steak was good, the potatoes so so, and the asparagus good. Stay away from the mac and cheese, no flavor. Everything else the party ordered was tasty. We had a fun time at Whiskey Creek.
Within minutes of arriving in the high altitudes of Mammoth, my good friend and I headed out to Whiskey Creek for what has been referred to as "beers at altitude." Think un-acclimatized drinking at 8,000 feet is the same old experience as at sea level? Â ...think again. One pint (2 if you're Irish--or Korean for that matter) will make you tipsy, hands down.
If you want the restaurant, you stay downstairs...but if you want a rousing bar experience filled with fresh-off-the-slopes 'brosefs and their skater-girl groupies, then upstairs is where it's at. We had no problem finding a seat at the bar, and even ordered burgers. The burgers were above average, and completely necessary to offset the alcohol, sans sea-level grade oxygen.
The service is good... the staff's attitudes have a slight edge...but as long as you don't act like a total yuppie, you'll steer clear of any douchbaggery. Â (paradoxical as that statement is)
Hands down the worst, most overpriced food in all of Mammoth. Â I mean, truly, truly awful. Â I would get dragged there once a year for discounted local's night (which I think is really their version of cleaning out the freezer) and left every time thinking "why did I do that to my stomach again?" Â
And don't even get me started on the trainwreck that is Wild Wednesday.
Yay for go-go dancers in the middle of 20 degree weather! Â This place was pretty packed when some friends and I went last Saturday night after a full day of snowboarding. Â The bottom floor was a dining area, and the top floor turns into a club at night.
There was a line to get in...and it was $5 for guys and ladies were free. Â The line was VERY slow moving, which annoyed me. Â We checked out two other bars close by and just ended up coming back here since it was bumpin'. Â The Village is within walking distance
It was pretty much a sausage fest. Â I had great company with me, so it was an awesome time.
I was surprised to see the night life was so alive in Mammoth. Â The next night, Sunday, it looked dead as we drove by. Â So, I guess we went on a good night.
Mammoth is not known for its après ski on the slopes (at least at the warming hut 2 side of the hill) especially on cold days when you can't instead and instead are forced to hang out at the makeshift lounge in front of the ski ticket purchasing area. Â
This is probably the closest bar to that side of the mountain (admittedly, the new village is too new for me to discuss). Â Not sure if the upstairs area is actually a different place or part of the whiskey. Â the sign says mamoth brewery and i'm just assuming that is based on what they serve. The bar is a pretty good scene.
They've got a happy hour and the spicy wings are very good, and the peanut wings are even better, but now that we have a shortage of chicken wings, not sure if they're going to be able to offer happy hour prices on them. Â the sauce is thick, the wings are juicy and the batter is delightful. Â As far as restaurants for restaurant sake, there are better places in town, but this might be the most lively.
For Mammoth, this is 5 star food, but in California as a whole, Whiskey Creek only gets 4. Â
I'm a huge red meat eater...especially steak...and there is nothing I love more after a hard day of riding than a huge slab of prime rib and veggies. Â That is just what I get at Whiskey Creek. Â In all the years that I've been coming here (about a decade), I don't think I've tried anything else but their steaks and veggies. Â It is just the fuel I need after my first day of riding. Â This way when I wake up the following morning, my body is properly fueled for another day of shredding. Â
The attire is mountain casual, but I wouldn't recommend coming here in your gear, straight from the slopes. Â Hit the showers, clean up a bit, and enjoy your meal as a nice evening out. Â I always eat in the downstairs dining room, but others prefer the more informal upstairs environment. Â One is sure to strike your fancy. Â
I've never been able to stay awake long enough to experience the "night life" here. Â After riding all day, hitting the hot tub, and then polishing off a large steak, I'm ready for bed about 10 PM. Â LOL! Â Who said snowboarders are all party animals! Â This animal needs her beauty sleep....yaaawn!
