It was December 31st, 2012--an eerie evening. That's right, this was no ordinary night, this was New Years Eve.
You are already asking yourself, "Why was Aaron B. here on NYE?" On this day, I asked the same thing.
My "crew" was a hodge-podge of a friend group mixed of close friends and acquaintances. The Alpha-female of the night decided we should go here cause none of us were available to host a party and no one wanted to spend an exorbitant amount of money on cover (Wild Country's cover was like $10 and that included a free "personalized" bottle of champagne at midnight". She also wanted to do something quirky and out there so we all complied, we had nothing else to lose.
I was nervous to go here as country line-dancing is not my scene. I don't even know what my scene is but I knew this wasn't it. I reluctantly went anyways. First off, I think i wore colored khaki with pants and a button up--I felt overdressed. After seeing some other patrons I quickly learned noone cares what you look like here. It's more of a wrangler's kind of a place.
When you first walk in you feel like you are in trouble. They wand everyone with a metal detector before you go in which almost makes the place feel unsafe. It doesn't seem like the kind of place where that would be an issue but it makes you wonder...?
The first view of the inside is overwhelming and hilarious. It is very large and stereotypical; It has a large bar area with tons of seats that surround the giant tiled dance floor in the middle. It's important to note that there is one lonely stripper poll uncomfortably placed in the middle of the dance floor. Why is this important? Because its random. Very random.
We quickly established a spot in the corner of the second floor with some pitchers of bud light. There was a DJ and a live band. The music playlist was a fusion of country and pop music. They also had a mechanical bull you could ride or watch people make a fool of themselves on. Overall I had a great time. It was really fun but in that I'm laughing at you not with you kind of way? We danced the night away (on the non-country songs) and had an amazing time.
I probably wouldn't go back. I know the main reason I had a fun time is because of the people I was with and the randomness of what we were doing. If you are looking for a random adventure maybe you should hit this place up.
Like Genesis said...I can't dance. Well, I CAN, but I promise no one wants to see it.
My husband made an off-handed comment about checking out Wild Country last Friday and surprisingly, I said yes. We made a quick jaunt back home for me to get all decked out in my flannel and drove to Collinsville.
First of all, the line to get into this place on a Friday night is ridiculous! We must've waited for a good 20 minutes. Next, the entrance fee is silly. Yes, this is a "club," but *REALITY CHECK* this is Collinsville! Not St. Louis. Get over yourself.
Now for the good...holy mother of cheap beer! Sure, the selection sucked, but when you're paying $1.50 for a bottle it no longer matters. I've never seen beer that cheap outside of a gas station. They also had a heated smoking area (which I was VERY thankful for). Lastly, the DJ. I asked the DJ if it was acceptable to request a song if you intended to slow dance to it where they generally line dance. He said yes and I told him I wanted to hear "Need You Now," because it was my husband and I's song. I expected to wait at least 30 minutes given the amount of people, but after only a couple songs, he played it. Apparently, you can line dance to anything, because we were definitely the only two people slow dancing. I didn't care. It made my night :)
If I could give This place zero stars I would. I only give it one because of the Dancing. The line dancing is great if you know what you are doing and they had lessons when we got there at 9pm. HERE ARE THE NEGATIVES! Â If You give me a two year old beer and charge me for it....then give me a two month old beer and still charge me....That's bad business. I've been to plenty of Bars in my 29 years and will never visit This one again. Manager Obviously knows nothing bout beer since he claims "beer never expires" Â and it only goes bad if its in the sunlight. The Miller Lite "Vortex bottle" has been out for over a year, and the bottle they gave me was so outdated it wasn't funny.
0/0 for customer service.
Man this place makes me happy. People almost spontaneously begin a line dance to each song and then everyone else follows along. I had never line danced before I came here, but I caught on quickly by following the others. Also this was my first "country" themed bar and I love country music so I was happy.
I think I've only been here on Saturday nights so I never saw any pole contests....
It is a bit dive-y and in the middle of the nowhere which I do not like. I would definitely only come here in a group.
First thing's first, you will probably have to pay to get in. Shit sucks, I know. I go on Friday nights, which is the most expensive night to get in. (Cover charges taken from the webpage are listed below, because I'm assuming you're as lazy and curious as I am)
Friday nights are my favorite for a couple reasons. The first one being, so far every Friday I've gone they had $1 long necks. Beer tastes good. They taste even better when they're only $1 a bottle.
The Second reason is the "So you think you can pole dance" competition. This is hit or miss though, depending on the volunteers. One night there were mostly hot girls in the competition, and 2 made out and 1 got topless. Success. Another night, the women weren't as pretty and a couple Stiffler's moms were in it. No es Bueno.
Also, on Friday nights they were serving (select) shots for $1.50. Combined with the $1 bottles, that $7 cover charge was looking worth it. There are at least 5 places to get your drink of choice inside.
As you can imagine by the name, this is a country dance club. Billy Ray Cyrus would be king of this crowd. EVERYTHING is line danced to. And I mean everything. I am NOT a country music fan, for the most part. (I don't go here for the music) I am completely cool with them line dancing to country songs. It gets really lame, in my opinion, when everyone is line dancing to "Crazy Train" by Ozzy, "Sexxy and I know it" by LMFAO, and "All the Small Things" by Blink 182. (And yes, that actually happened) Then at that point is just something to laugh about, honestly.
There's usually a healthy crowd there. Cowboys, cowgirls, people pretending to be cowboys and cowgirls, and regular non-country folk just having a good time. There's generally always a nice bunch of good looking girls here (guys too, for you ladies out there). Its a fun time (you can get some laughs at people line dancing to LMFAO like bamfs, or when the slightly intoxicated, yet vastly overweight gentleman decides to reject his shirt and try to pole dance in the middle of a crowd.
If you dont mind paying the cover charge, the drinks are cheap, the times are fun, and the music is country.

Went there for a Girl's Night Out with a small group of friends on a Friday night. Our intent .... watch the "So you think you can Pole dance" contest.
A few of the girls I went with had gone there previously and gave me an idea of what to expect. However, I was still a bit apprehensive considering the name of the club. When I arrived it kind of reminded me of arriving at a Las Vegas hotel because of the outside lighting. As soon as I walked through the door I was greeted by a bouncer who carded me. Then stood in a very short line to get a wrist band. Both bouncers were cordial and nice. When I proceeded to pay the woman was very pleasant. Upon walking in through the 2nd set of doors I was taken a back by the music and people. The place looked great. They played all sorts of music. I didn't know you could line dance to hip hop...lol.
Being a city girl, I am used to paying quite a bit for drinks....but not here. Mix drinks were $4 and bottles $1.50. Nice! I'm not a big drinker either so I usually nurse a drink for about an hour but the drinks are just the perfect size...small.
There were a mix of people there. I was surprised considering. The crowd was very nice and not at all stuck up.
When it came for the contest, Â a part of me was not surprised at all by the competitors...girls attempting to "pole dance" but ending up fulfilling a desire to be looked and hollered at by rubbing up against the judges with their boobs and grinding on them in hopes they appeased their sexual stimulation..lol. it was a hot mess after another watching most of them. There were even 2 guys who entered. Lets just say they did more pole than the girls. Apparently these guys are regular contestants.
All in all I had fun. I didn't know how to line dance but made an awful attempt. I'm definitely going back to try it again. This place was a great place to try something different.
I will never go back to Wild Country again.
It all started as a perfectly enjoyable evening. My sister wanted to go to Wild Country for her bachelorette party because one of her bridesmaids won't be 21 for another few months. The 20-year-old drove all seven of us since she was too young to drink. I will refer to her as the designated driver, DD. To DD's credit, she was very responsible. She refused to even have a sip of champagne with us before dinner.
When we got to Wild Country, the bouncers checked our IDs and made DD undergo a breathalyzer test. I have never seen this before, but I guess it is something they do at 18+ clubs. Of course she passed. They gave all of us wristbands, except for DD. They painted black stripes across both of her hands. (I still don't understand why they had to do that since the fact that she didn't have a wristband already indicated that she was underage.)
The place wasn't crowded at all. It was rather deserted, in fact. (What happened later would give me some insight into why the place wasn't full.)
I enjoyed watching the line dancers and trying to figure out how they knew which steps to make. For the most part, our group watched while a couple of us danced at a time. A live band played for a while. Some regulars tried to teach us how to line dance. There was a pole in the center of the dance floor. We all laughed as some drunk older man did his best stripper dance and a couple of our group joined him. It was a very funny, enjoyable, but overall mellow time. We even got to watch the Cardinals annihilate the Rangers on the big screen.
The seven of us did one round of "strawberry cheesecake" flavored shots. The bartender was even kind enough to make one non-alcoholic one out of some grenadine and soda for DD so she could be part of the group photo.
At one point, DD and I went to the restroom. As we were washing our hands, all of a sudden this woman came up behind us. She grabbed DD's arm and started getting extremely aggressive, scolding her for "washing her marks off." It took me a second to realize she was yelling at DD for washing her hands.
Here's what happened next:
Aggressive Woman: "You're going to have to leave. You were washing your marks off."
Designated Driver: "What? No. I was washing my hands, but I -"
Aggressive Woman: "No! You're coming with me up front."
The woman went from agitated to angry in a matter of a few seconds. That's when I spoke up.
Me: "Ma'am, this is ridiculous! This girl hasn't had a drop of alcohol all night! Why would she be washing her marks off now? It doesn't make sense."
Designated Driver: "It's fine. I'll take another breathalyzer. I don't care. I wasn't trying to be sneaky. I was just washing my hands!"
And that was it. DD and I had calmly explained the situation to this woman. I will admit, the octave of my voice went up a few notches, but it was more of a whiney tone. DD was just so shocked, she was barely making a peep. In other words, we didn't yell or get obnoxious. We were completely rational. There was no reason to get out of hand. But this woman wasn't having it.
Aggressive Woman grabbed her walkie talkie: "Security! Security! I need back up right now in the women's bathroom! We've got a problem!"
Wait. What?
All of a sudden, our mild-mannered group found ourselves surrounded by a handful of bouncers, being escorted out of the building.
I am 27 years old. I've been on numerous bachelorette parties - some rowdier than others. But I have never, ever been kicked out of an establishment. It was the most humiliating experience.
When we got to the lobby, there were more bouncers waiting for us. I explained what had happened to a man who looked as though he was in charge. The aggressive woman from the bathroom was nowhere to be found. I pleaded with them to please understand that we did absolutely nothing wrong, but they would have none of it.
I'm sure they deal with a lot of underage kids who try to sneak around. I'm sure the woman in the bathroom has had to kick out dozens of people for being rowdy or drinking underage. They have a short fuse because they probably have to kick people out all the time. I get it. But what they did to us wasn't fair. It wasn't deserved.
I know it sounds silly, but even now as I write this, I feel a huge sense of injustice. My poor sister, the bride, was utterly humiliated. As the maid of honor, I was horrified that this happened. The entire group felt so wronged. The whole situation was wildly inappropriate.
And that is why I will never go back to Wild Country.
Pros: Nice bartenders, big dance floor, heated outdoor seating area.
Cons: Aggressive security staff, cash only establishment.
We got there at exactly 8:00, the cutoff point for half price cover charge. The guards took so long doing pat downs on us that by the time we had walked the 10 feet through the ropes the girl taking cover charge made us pay regular because it was 8:01 by the time we made it to her booth. Not only that, the security was INCREDIBLY rude, even going so far as to physically grab my friend by the arm and yell at him with no provocation. The security continued to be dick heads all night, and it looked like the owners had hired them from the nearest trailer park. Not a bad place to dance, but if you want to be treated like a second class citizen, go to Wild Country.
Review Source:I can't believe no one has reviewed this place yet!
I went here for the first time a few months ago, and boy, was it FUN.
I'm not a huge country music fan (okay, I like the Rascal Flatts and the Dixie Chicks), but I love dancing (or attempting to dance), so I let my friends drag me along.
This place is so high energy. The night I went, there was a live band playing, and lots of people on the dance floor.
Another plus -- the drinks are cheap!
One thing to know before you visit is that this IS a country line dancing club. So be prepared. I wasn't. I don't know ANY line dances, but it was so much fun going out there and trying. And everyone is so helpful and nice.
I definitely recommend this place. DEFINITELY. It's a blast.
