Because The Wine Guy is less than 10 miles from my home, I find myself recommending it to friends often for happy hour. However, The Wine Guy Wine Shop has an average selection. I always order one of three whites.
When it comes to food, I recommend the small plates...bread, cheeses, and pizza. You won't be disappointed! Â Full meals, however, are also just average. I must admit I've never splurged for dessert.
Service is hit or miss. I've had great servers and others that I can only describe as odd and over acting.
For the quality of product and service, I find The Wine Guy expensive. For two of us to have dinner with a few appetizers and a total of 3 glasses of wine, we spent over $130.00.
Location is nice and parking is free and plentiful in the plaza garage. Outdoor seating is available.
I typically patronize on Friday nights and have found you can easily get a table with no wait if you arrive by 6:00.
In summary, I would recommend The Wine Guy for happy hour if you aren't a wine snob. For dinner, there is better out there.
If I could give 6 stars to this place, I would!! I've read some mixed reviews about this place, so not sure if I've just gotten lucky or they have been unlucky - but this is one of my favorite restaurants in Columbus.
I'm far from a wine expert, but I do appreciate a nice tasting wine. I have been to Wine Guy twice and both times I would say I had some of the best food I've ever had in Columbus. Good enough that you think how good it was hours and days after! Â
My date and I arrived about 730 on a Friday and sat right down, but I have been there before and waited over an hour. One advantage to waiting is being able to browse the wine bottle selections. There are hundreds if not thousands of wines to look at. If you have to wait try picking a bottle and hiding the price, have your date guess the amount. There are bottles from $5 to $300.
They always have great wine flights to choose from. Great way to try some new wines. After tasting, we ordered a bottle of our favorite red from the flight. After some cheese and wine, we both had the lobster pasta. It was absolutely amazing. Smaller portion, but I had nearly filled up on cheese and wine, so it was actually the perfect size.
Nice romantic restaurant. Can't recommend it enough. hope to go back soon!!
We went for dinner two weeks ago with another couple. We quickly got a table and our server (I've since forgotten her name) took our wine orders. We each decided on a flight of wine, I myself getting the white flight, as well as my friend Emma. My husband ordered the International flight and our friend Ian ordered the Red flight. Our wine took a little while to arrive- but honestly, the restaurant was packed and we each ordered four glasses of wine. I expected it to take a bit.
We ordered the Ricotta and Honey and the Bruchetta as our appetizers. I, personally, really loved the Ricotta and Honey, and didn't really care for the Bruchetta, although everyone else at the table seemed to like everything equally.
Dinner arrived and I ordered the Spaghetti Bolognese, and the meatballs were the best part. I felt like the sauce was lacking something- maybe a splash of red wine, or salt or just- something. Still, I was in no way unhappy with my meal. Em ordered a white fish and really enjoyed it- it was very tasty, kinda tart, maybe due to the capers? Ian ordered the special that night, a risotto with blue cheese and Filet Mignon. I am not usually a fan of blue cheese, but this risotto was done beautiful. My husband ordered a burger on a pretzel bun (if you've read any of my other reviews, you will know that he has an obsession with pretzels and is a self proclaimed pretzel connoisseur). He loved it- but I expected that.
We were so stuffed after dinner that we skipped dessert, but the menu looked incredible!
We will be back- and bring more friends. Perhaps my in-laws would like this place :)
