I like Hendocs because its usually dead. That's my kind of bar! I also appreciate the pool table and the booths. I love a good booth.
Taking off a point for the bathrooms. They smell, and you can see right into the boy's bathroom because the door is always open. Who designed it that way?
After living literally a five-minute walk from Hendoc's for three years, I finally decided to stop in. I was pleasantly surprised by their dark and uncrowded nature as well as the premium VIP bike parking available just steps from the door. When I arrived at 9:08pm on a Thursday, I was informed by the bartender that I had just missed the happy hour, so sadly, I would have to pay $3 for my vodka & soda. Um, what?! I may have been in something like sticker shock since I had just returned from NYC - I'm pretty sure that the upperclass New York drinks with their finance jobs, penthouse condos, and private kindergartens would probably look down their straws at their humble midwestern counterparts. Still, it's hard to say no to $3 drinks... and I hear happy hour = $1.50. NICE. The bartender was friendly, the drinks were strong, there was a weird guy that kept trying to make conversation with everyone all night, and there were no offensive odors to be found (except maybe coming from that weird guy). I think they have a pool table, too. I'll be back to find out - there's nothing that makes my night quite like finding a place to reveal my utter incompetence at geometry and hand-eye coordination.
Review Source:Since they renovated the place, I like the environment a lot more. The bartenders are great and they have amazing specials, expecially the every day special of $1 PBRs. They have a good import selection for a campus bar. It is a good place to enjoy a couple drinks with friends or watch a game.
