The anticipated opening of The Barracks was 2/16/2013 with a soft opening. Anyone who attended would never have thought it was a soft opening.  As my friend Edwin pointed out to me,  its  a blend of The Garage & Tradewinds. These establishments were loved and missed by many of us  in the gay community.   Approaching the bar through AWOL (the momma bar with its military theme and bohemian ambiance that always makes you feel like a regular, even it if your not), you continue across the AWOL Patio to the entrance.   The darkness  will give you that feeling of  Whitney Houston's "Queen of the NIght" as you pass the bar and turn to reveal an entire bar dedicated to the dance floor.  This evening began with a Drag Show that shows the true comedic and grit that the art form is mean tto entertain you with.   This evenings show featured the talents of Mary Nolan, Maria Lopez, Ashley Stewart and Lottie Da Da (Miss AWOL 2012).  After the show the masses moved forward to bring on the tribal ritual of dancing to past and current dance theme music.  The dancing was amazing on a multilevel dance floor that was intimate enough to touch your body to other hot men and big enough to make it legendary. The music was emotional, it was old school and new.   Donna Summer to Jennifer Lopez and so much more.  And, for the people watching, just plain hot.  Men! Men! Men!, Did I say their were men, honey there were men.  And just enough boys for the picking. When you plan your next group bedroom activity, this is where you will be doing all your shopping.  And no dance bar is complete without libations.  The drinks were a good pour.  I like the shots. I'm a water & shots (responsibly & paced) kind of gall, it helps me to appropriately get my grove on.  Well you have it all at The Barracks. Good entertainment, good drinks, great dancing.  The Barracks is The Hit.  PS check out the head(mens room).  A new legend is born in Columbus with the opening of The Barracks. Congrats!!!
