Thursdays is apparently "Thong Day" : where the waitresses who shouldn't be wearing thongs without anything covering them are in fact doing just that.

I recently read about this place in one of the local free papers.  I have no idea how I didn't know about it before.  Actually, I do recall seeing a makeshift sign once on Spring street.  It was simply a piece of unpainted wood on a stick with "BAR" and an arrow in black spray paint.  I saw it while riding my bike, and forgot to go back and investigate.  I assume it was for this place, and it could not be more fitting.  

This is a bar.  It is listed under dive bars, and it is exactly that.  Prices are reasonable, and everyone was friendly.  The owner, Shorty, is really nice, and they have one of the best burgers in town for $5.50.  The bartender, Rachel, was great too.  

As I understand it, the only day they have regular hours is Thong Thursday.  Otherwise they only open when there are events nearby at Huntington Park or The LC.  I tried to go here last Saturday, but they were closed, so I went back on Thong Thursday.  

In short, it's a nice, friendly, inexpensive place, and I hope to return soon.  Thong Thursday at Betty's Bar:  Come for the thong, stay for the alliteration :)

This is the dive of all dives. Drinks are cheap, waitresses are... interesting, and the whole place on the outside looks like a boarded up shack. Unless you already knew it was there, you'd never know it was there.

This is not a place to order a martini or anything other than a cheap vodka or a PBR. But ya know what- that's why you come here. It's unpretentious, dark and seedy- which makes it fun. It's a quiet location to get a drink after work without being inundated by the "young professional" work crowd or anyone you might know for that matter.

On Thursday, they host "Thong Thursday" which makes it  hilarious to watch the bar fill up with regulars- a very very strange crowd not often seen in the arena district location- who only come to watch the waitresses in their... ummmm... uniform? Because Thong Thursday is exactly that- the waitresses wear thongs and some type of shirt. It's like a train wreck... it's horrible and terrible... and yet you just can't look away!!!
