Somehow, when a bar is divey inside the beltway, or between 71 and 315, it gets extra points in my book. Â This place is no exception. Â It's almost exactly like any crap bar in Dublin or Hilliard, except that it's on High Street in Clintonville. Â The crowd is surly, the restroom is nasty, the tables don't make any sense, but man... Â the booze is decent and CHEAP. Â Like, buy a round for 6 friends for less than $15 cheap. Â
So... there's that.
Honestly, I don't get the whole dive-bar obsession thing. I can appreciate a good dive close to home when I'm feeling schlubby, but seeking out dives for divey's sake is just not my bag.
With that said, I give Brew-Stirs a high-end 3 star rating (which is saying a lot, because I would think a standard dive is "Meh" by definition). We were doing a Clintonville Bar Crawl, and Brew-Stirs ended up being my favorite for one particular reason: Bloody Marys. For $3.50. Good ones.
The shape of the space is small enough to feel cozy with your neighbors but not so big to feel crowded. This would be a good day-drinking spot in bad weather. Plus, you're close to lots of other stuff. If I lived in this neighborhood, I'd be here more often.
Bloody Marys, man.
