I had lunch at the Wipeout today with a friend. Overall, we found the food to be very good, but the service lackadaisical and/or untrained. We sat outside.  We hailed a passing person, and asked if we should order inside, or if there were waiters. "I can wait on you," he told us cheerfully. "Would you like anything to drink? Oh, maybe you want a menu !" he said . We agreed. We would like to look at a menu. When he came back with the menus, and started to put them down, we asked him if he could please wipe our table first. The table we were sitting at was grubby, smeared and sprinkled with crumbs. You might expect this sort of oversight from a fast food joint, but what sort of decent restaurant plops menus down on a dirty table? Ugh. The service continued to be cheery but inefficient. We got everything we asked for, but we had to ask for everything. Bread. Butter. Sweetener for our ice tea. Nobody offered to refill our ice tea, though it melted down to a warm puddle in the bottom of our glasses. The food was very good. I had a seared Ahi Tuna salad, that was one of the best I've ever had. I got lime cilantro dressing, which was piquant and nice. My friend had a gorgonzola salad, also very good. I was surprised that the only bread they had available was sliced, packaged sourdough, and that we had to ask for it, and were charged an additional dollar. I would eat here again, because the food was good, but I will be aware that I can't assume that the servers will anticipate any needs (like having a clean table.)

Delicious Food...  great environment inside and outside...  lots of attention from the staff.. always asking if you need something more...   Gerald , the Manager, was so friendly and came by to make sure we were all happy...    reasonable prices (not too low, not too high). We will go back for sure.

I'm a little bummed....as I liked the staff here, but the food was ......meh and over priced.  I ordered a nachos with chicken, to try something different.  Over $17.00!!!  The chicken was tough and boring, and the overall taste was not too exciting....very bland. I'm bummed I didn't try a salad or something more exciting and not so boring, but I thought they sounded really good to get.  I do like the beach vibe here....but it was super hot inside and the ceiling fans didn't really help much. It would have been a nicer environment if it was a bit cooler in there.  Oh well.

We go there a lot. The staff and servers are very nice, as is the manager, and Friday nights are a lot of fun with live music and lots of kiddos but please hire new cooks and re-do your menu. The food is really not very good and is inconsistent (sometimes OK - sometimes terrible).  It's a great location, great vibe but please hire a menu consultant and do some training for your cooks.

Think of it as a super-kid-friendly restaurant attached to a sports bar; Bennigans crossed with Chuck-E-Cheez.  There are two birthday party rooms in the back, which are usually full of boisterous 10 year olds on Saturday afternoons.  So if that's NOT what you want, stay away on Saturdays.  The food is quite good, especially the fish tacos which are divine.  Pretty good margaritas too.  They also have a dozen tables outside, which is quite pleasant when the weather's good.

I had a friend over and we came across Wipeout Grill when looking for places that still delivered in Mill Valley after 8pm on a Sunday.  After placing our order with a third party app (EAT), we settled back and waited for our food.  About 75 minutes later it arrived!  As I unpacked the bags the food boxes were warm and soggy.  Not a good sign already. I opened each box only to be disappointed with what I saw.  I get take out food is not going to be presented exactly as it was in the restaurant.  BUT this was't even close.  I have enclosed pictures so that you may decide and judge on your own if you would have been excited to sit down and eat this.  The taste of the food was "ok".  Nothing stood out as tasting amazing.  The Salmon was the smartest decision and the rest was forgettable.

Being that I live in San Francisco's Mission District,
I'm a little spoiled when it comes to Mexican food.
I came here recently with my Pop's to do some catching up.

I ordered the burrito. What inspired me to order a burrito, I'll never know.
Americanized burrito's are the worst. Greasy, heavy, and smothered in cheese.

    Not at Wipeout.

It was absolutely delicious. Far more substance much less beans and rice.
Not at all the heavy greasy monstrosity I was expecting.
The server was charming and gracious.
Things are really picking up at Wipeout.

They have a great happy hour with deilcious bar bites. Their dinner menu offers a wide range of options and the atmosphere is perfect for a casual dinner. Their staff has always been very friendly, and even bought us a round of beers and appetizer after she forgot to put in one of our orders. Will definitely be coming back!

I came here for a Wine and Canvas event. The weird decoration had me little worry about the food. The service was really slow just to get a menu. I tried the chicken teriyaki burger which I thought was beef burger.  I was really disappointed. Once I received my burger, I asked for ketchup and silverware but I didn't get any of that until I was almost done. Would I go back without a Wine and Canvas event? No.

Came here 3 times as I want to support local businesses, but I was relieved when my 11 and 15 year old nephews (who will eat ANYTHING)  decided they would prefer to eat a sandwich at home than to eat here again.

Both the food and service are so bad that I cannot imagine how this place stays in business.

Wow! This place had Really Good food! I got the Blackened Mahi Mahi Bowl with the  sautéed veggies, coconut rice and an avocado tomatillo sauce. It was Totally Awesome!  My wife got the Fresh Grilled Fish with tomato salsa, jicama, red peppers and jalapeno cream. She LOVED IT! I had been here when the first opened, along long time ago. I thought it was a chain. I understand there's just one other at Pier 39. The place is Fun, especially for kids, surf boards EVERYWHERE and Jimmy Buffett playing in the background. It's not exactly the vibe of Marin that I remembered, but it was a GREAT lunch. Family of three got out of there for about $40 with tip. It was worth it.

The food tasted FRESH and felt Healthy and every left full. By the way the have a GI-MONSTROUS TV in there about as big as the Wall. Thumbs Up!

Must be new management (again), not happy they took out $5 pizzas on Wednesday.  It was a bargain for the whole family, Little League, other leagues, etc.  I was wondering why it was so lame on a Wednesday night when usually the place is packed.  Can the CEO of the company do an Undercover Boss episode, and ask why the vibe has changed?  Are they taking care of their peeps?  Hello, happy customers make your business thrive!  Please put back the banana split & mud pie to your dessert menu or at least change it up.  Btw, I noticed the prices went up on everything.  Hmmm, no more $5 pizzas, less choices on the menu at a higher cost...something smells fishy - I'm not talking about the tacos!

I was staying away when Chevys first  turned to WIPE out, but have started going for the awesome WED happy hour, discount pizzas and beer. (pizza is only cheap on WED). The bar filled up last night, so we sat in the dining room, but the happy hour prices didn't apply. Go early, stake out a spot at the bar, and be happy.

Attention Marin County parents and out of town visitors.

The Wipeout Bar and Grill now has a wonderful kids play area.
I was delighted to see a reasonably sized and well thought out play area for toddlers and children during a recent lunch visit. Unfortunately I didn't have my toddler, but rest assured we (my husband and I) will be back to take full advantage. Apparently kids eat free on Tuesdays, and they have music on Fridays.

The healthy choices on the lunch menu like fish dishes and great salads make this a "no brainer" for Moms on the go. I ordered the chicken taco salad and it was delicious. My waitress Kiki was also great.

The decor is okay, lots of TV screens but could use a refresher - other than that, my experience was great.

Pleased to find a restaurant that understands the importance of entertaining the children while the parents enjoy a few moments of adult time.

Was out running errands and found myself hungry. In between stops, I happened past this place. It looked kind of fun with the theme decor and cool looking surf board tables, so I stopped in to see what was up. Cocktail menu had some clever local names. Sat in the bar area and service was fairly quick. Wasn't feeling up for a meal so I had the quesadilla appetizer. It was fairly good sized and had a little bit of a bite. Other than that, it wasn't much more than average especially for the price. Theme is fun, my food experience was kinda meh.

Discovered that there's another one of these in Fisherman's Wharf as well.

    Yes, you can!

You can eat healthy food here if you choose consciously.  A 6 pm meeting here led me to look over the menu carefully, for I have been dieting and don't want to regress.  I found a salmon salad and a diet Coke for $18.  The salad was mixed greens with an interesting oil, vinegar and what tasted like herbs provencale, and the salmon fillet on top was cooked perfectly for me.  Fall apart on the fork, yet firm between the teeth.

Due to the price of a salad and Coke in Greenbrae, I will now stop complaining about prices in Oakland.

I live so close yet I just "discovered" this place. I've been missing out! Great place to go, nice folks and really good food at non-Marin prices.
I dunno about you, but ten bucks for a good lunch is a big win in my book - my new place! The manager seems to take real pride in the place and is all about the customers (at least he was great for us!) Gerald was his name, probably an owner.
Good Place - go check it out :-)

Burger tasted decent according to my husband.  Waiter slyly offered $7 chips and dip...thought it would be free or cheaper than that.

Was here on a Thursday during Happy Hour time and also a 49er game so the place was pretty busy.  They have a big projector screen TV which was nice and about 4 flat-screen TVs but only one or two of the flat-screen are HD. And each of the TVs are of different picture quality... a bit annoying but not a big deal because I was mostly watching the big-screen projector screen.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE SURFBOARD TABLES! VERY CAREFUL! Our waiter brought my Corona and it almost slipped off the table since the surfboard tables in the bar part of the restaurant are real surfboards.  They should really fix that because another one of the guys at my table lost his drink because it just slipped off the table.  DRUNK PEOPLE, CURVED TABLES, BAD IDEA.  It just makes a lot of unnecessary clean up of glass for bust boys when all you have to do is sand the board down a little bit, it would still look like a  surf board.  Or just not use a real surfboard.  Its like playing Jenga with drinks sometimes.

But 50 cent wings, good deal.  Happy Hour drinks are a good deal too.  It doesn't get super crazy obnoxious for games too which is kind of nice.

Years later, I revise my admiration of their Ahi dishes.   Their Ahi salad is overfilled with slices of marinated ginger and an abundance of raw onion that overpowers the salad.  If you stick with the steak and vegetables, or pork sliders, and a beer or two, you'll do just fine.

A special note about the chairs in the bar.  I know they focus on the beach theme, but those chairs are way, way uncomfortable.   We are not at the beach.  Sit in a booth in the main restaurant.

Perhaps I am just too old, thank you.

I came here once for dinner on a Wednesday night and the place was pretty empty for how big it is. Most people were in the bar area, so grabbed a booth. I ordered the cheese burger and fries and it was cooked fine.

My biggest complaint was the ketchup. I am pretty sure they must use organic or something, not your typical heinz, and it tasted so odd to me. I am a ketchup fan, so it ruined the burger and the fries that I slathered it on.  The condiment was poured into a generic bottle (if I remember correctly) and came with no warning.

They also were out of ice so my soda was pretty room temperature. Not sure how this is possible, but the server was a really nice girl who was quick and friendly and explained if they made more she would bring me some. Stars for being cheap, clean and a good amount of food for the price!

As a true and dedicated lifelong fan of the Surfaris, Dick Dale and even the Beach Boys, Wipeout drew me in like a hotdogger to a keg.  Here's what I found while shooting the tube in Greenbrae:

ATMOSPHERE:  The designers made a good try at a surfing theme with about a gazillion gnarly surfboards, cardboard beer six-packs on the tables to hold condiments, and servers in Hawaiian shirts.  Unfortunately, they spoiled the beach atmosphere by filling up the wall space with TV monitors showing every ESPN channel the satellite serves up.

SERVICE:  The service was adequate, but not great.  The owners of the two Wipeout restaurants (the other one is in San Francisco at Pier 39) could improve things in this area with a more comprehensive training program, but I suspect they think sports bar devotees don't care much about service.

FOOD:  Wipeout's menu consists of typical sports bar grub with a seafood twist.  Hidden among the standard stuff with surfy names, you'll find a few innovative dishes, like a Salmon B.L.T. and a Blackened Mahi-Mahi Bowl.

As for the food, itself, the samples I tried were nicely prepared from fresh ingredients and pretty tasty.  The fries are extra crunchy, just the way I likes 'em.

VALUE:  Here's where we hit the rocks.  This place is way too pricey.  For example, there is no hamburger on the planet that's worth eleven bucks, even with terrific fires, but six of Wipeout's eight burger choices ring up for that amount.  In spite of tasty food and reasonable portions, there's no way I can call Wipeout a good value.

BOTTOM LINE:  Wipeout describes itself as being "reminiscent of the classic beach restaurants and "surf shacks that dot the California coast."  Apparently that was written by some marketing schmuck whose knowledge of surfing came from watching Beach Blanket Bingo.  And adding insult to injury, why would anybody with even the vaguest knowledge of surfing culture put a "Summer of Love" burger on the menu?  If there's anything a surfer dislikes more than a hodad, it's a flower child.  Let's call it three stars for a nice effort.

Wipe Out has good food, friendly staff and a really kid friendly environment. I don't know of many places that welcomes large parties with no notice and caters to your every need.

We went a few weeks ago, called 10 minutes before we arrived, and asked them to seat a party of 25. Over 1/2 of the party were children under the age of 6 years. Not only did they seat us immediately but they also attended us very well. The staff was courteous and patient considering we had a bunch of rowdy kids. And the food is good. I had the grilled fish tacos. I found the fish light and flaky and really enjoyed the sauce. Another favorite of mine is the ahi tuna wrap. Wipeout also has one of the best kids menu in town.

Good food AND it is family friendly? What else could a family of 4 ask for?

    Three words: OPEN 'TILL 10pm

Three more words: NEIMAN RANCH CHILI
It's fantastically good chili--like brisket chili, and it costs just $6.

Also had a burrito which was big, well made, tasty, and reasonable at $6.

You can get a wide variety of food: pizza, burgers, sandwiches, salads, Mexican, wings, rings, nachos, sliders... so it's a good place to take a family or group, because everybody should be able to find something they want!

    Tasty. Reasonable. Recommended.

My first experience at Wipeout was several months ago - pretty meh. If I'd written a review, it would have received 2 stars.

So why give it a whopping 4 stars now, you ask?

Because I found the sweet spot of Wipeout - watching football with friends in the bar!

We were well attended to by Morgan - she informed us all beers on tap were $2.50/pint and kept them flowing. I could think of nothing better to complement my pints than hot wings. I went in with low expectations and found myself pleasantly surprised - the wings were meaty and had a great kick to them. Also tried the pulled pork sliders - they were okay, BBQ sauce was a bit too sweet for my liking, but whatever. They were cheap.

Glad I've found a suitable use for you, Wipeout.

ok I have to chime in here -- where are all of these mediocre/bad reviews coming from? I'm not sure these people are eating at the same place.

The food is excellent (my fav is the Hawaiian burger with pineapple and teriyaki), the drinks are unique and always well made (new fav is 'Sex on Muir Beach'), and the staff has always been fun/friendly/attentive to me and my friends.

This restaurant is a nice change for Marin, and whomever set it up knew what they were doing. I'm reminded of my years in SoCal -- it definitely holds true to the laid back beach culture.

I'm not a plant, nor am I affiliated with the restaurant in any way. I just feel the need to counter some of these other reviews on here since my experience has always been 100% positive.

I took the family to Wipeout Grill on a Tuesday night and can confidently say I will never take the family there again.

Our "service", if you could call it that, was probably the worst I have ever had at a full-service restaurant. After waiting for 15 minutes to have someone take our order, our drinks arrived 8 later and were not correct. We should have seen this as sign for things to come.

Of the five meals, two of the kids meals arrived first along with one of the adults. 10 minutes later the third kids meal arrived (a chicken quesadilla which any average cook could have made in 3 minutes or less) after my 6 year-old daughter had watched her younger sisters eat most of their meals. 20 more minutes passed and still one of the adult meals had not arrived. Normally we would not let this amount of time pass without saying something to our server but she was staying away from our table, far away.

Our server obviously had not taken the course Waitering 101 as she didn't come over once to see if everything was alright with our meals. In fact, our server didn't come within 10 yards of our table after the fourth meal was served. When she finally did, we asked her about the missing meal and seemed genuinely surprised that we had ordered one. Then things started to get worse.

In all my years of dining out, I've never been blatantly lied to by restaurant's staff. Unfortunately, that perfect record came to an end tonight. Our waitress returned with a manager who apologized for not bringing the meal. He claimed that the missing meal was ready and that he would package it and pay for it himself. We said that was fine. I waited another 15 minutes at the table to receive the meal but didn't get anything. The manager passed my table several times to deal with other unhappy customers and didn't acknowledge that he hadn't brought the meal.

I paid for the four meals we did receive and a bus person asked me how everything was. I told him that I never received my dinner and he said he would do something. He hurriedly went to the back and I wasn't sure what he was doing so I decided to leave. As I was near the front door he came running over and apologized for the mistake and offered me two tickets for free appetizers on my next visit. While it was a nice gesture, it was far too little at this point.

Would I recommend Wipeout? Maybe if had actually had the opportunity to try the food I could overlook the lousy service and being mislead by the manager. But since I didn't, I can't recommend this eatery to anyone. Considering that there are many other complaints about this eateries service on other reviews, I have to wonder if the positive reviews were written by staff members as part of their training.

And it's too bad our experience was so negative as my wife enjoyed their cole slaw but thought the fish & chips was adequate.

If anyone would like two coupons for free appetizers, feel free to contact me. Just don't blame me if you go and never receive them.

Huh...Thought we reviewed this after it first opened. If you bother, the bar and patio areas are most interesting. Finally went in during a happy hour window for light snacks and had a very different experience from the past (tends to be a dry, boring crowd) -- bartender is hilarious and was very thoughtful with the little one in tow; extra star for him.

The stand out is really the friendly staff. Shakes, burgers, "American" diner style are consistently strong -- albeit healthier versions. While the dishes are all extremely fresh and surprisingly on the lighter side, they tend to lean on the sugary sweet in sauces, etc. Simply not a fan of that.

Kid/Family-friendly, although the kid rarely actually eats her food brought out. Better to order a few smaller things and share. Ask for dressing on the side to be safe. For the price, you can have a healthy, flavorful, organic meal at Cafe Z.

Unless soccer team families order wisely, expect the tab to ring on the higher side.

Otherwise, perfect for hanging out in the bar area with the locals.

    Fun~Fun~Fun in the YUM!!!!

If The Wipeout Grill were around when I was attending College Of Marin, I would have never gone to class! Many Thanks to Christine E. for turning us on to this place!!!

So The WG is a surf themed chain restaurant with surf décor and surf vids playing on large screens. It's totally cool to eat, drink, and be merry while watching some of the past, present, and future surfing legends ripping waves on medium and large screens!!!

Their food also ROCKS! Here is what we dug here-

French Fries: 5 Stars- Made with fresh, NOT frozen, potatoes, light, crisp, and perfect!

Onion Rings: 5+ Stars- Truly OUTSTANDING, some of the BEST I've tasted. Our ENTIRE table agreed! The batter was perfectly crunchy and balanced in seasonings while the inside still retained texture and did not become soggy!

Salmon Salad: 4 Stars- Fish was cooked perfectly and rested on a bed of organic greens. It was a little heavy on the onions and the dressing could have been served on the side.

Mac and Cheese: 5 Stars-Creamy, super tasty, and PERFECT!

Wings: 5 Stars- We ordered the teriyaki ones and they were moist, still slightly crunchy, and thankfully not overly sweet or salty!

Taco Salad: 5 Stars- Both the SoCal diners and the NorCal diners at the table tasted it and agreed that it could not be improved upon!

Calamari: 2 Stars- Maybe it was on an off day or batch but it arrived to the table still with a visible layer of oil on it. Perhaps the cooking oil was not hot enough or maybe it needed to be blotted more prior to plating but it was the only dish we did not finish. After getting halfway though it, there was a layer of oil at the bottom of the serving dish.

Service: 5 Stars-The servers here were pleasant, drinks continuously refilled, our table was checked on several times, and they discreetly managed a shift change while we were still dining. Getting a friendly greeting when we entered and when we left is also commendable!

The Wipeout Grill is also a supporter of one of my favorite charities~ Surfrider!  WooHoo!!!!!!

    We'll definitely be back!!!!!

I liked the service, beer, and the outdoor seating with the weird fire pit type thing.

The food tastes like it's just step above fast food, even though they use high quality ingredients.  I did notice a lot of families with kids, so maybe they're just trying to cater to a different type of crowd. They just try to do way too many things at once.  Maybe my expectations were too high.  I imagined this place to have gourmet food in a casual setting.

The cheesy decor and plethora of food choices make it feel kind of like a tourist trap restaurant you would find in Hawaii, except you're in Greenbrae.

I've fucking HAD IT with themed eateries.  DONE.  This one is the god damn worst.  I go there trying to watch some sporting event while I eat and they have one some massive flat screen AND projection screen gay dudes surfing to the beach boys.  Great!  A wonderfully original masterpiece of modern culture of California.  The geniuses of Marin have once again thought up another brilliant plan.  Are you fucking kidding that's the most cliche fucking idea ever.  The only reason there is a laid back care-free environment is because the wait staff are high school drop outs.  Not to mention that a place like this is a big FUCK YOU to people in Northern Cali.  "Hey, I know you have nothing but fog 8 months out of the year but here is a dog on surf board to remind you how shitty your weather is most of the time!"

Food is lame too.  WAY too expensive.  I'd rather eat dinner off Patrick Ewing after OT lose at the Garden.

    Fuck you, Marin.

I felt like I was at a beach bar in Mexico, and not in a good way.

I don't know why I let my friend convince me to come here (once and never again).

Choice snippets: took forever to get a drink on a not so busy Tuesday night. Probably because I'm a straight chick and the female bartender's slutty antics weren't going to get her a big tip from me. Bouncer wouldn't let me in without a plastic bracelet even though there were, like, 5 people in the entire bar. Bathroom smelled weird.

After the scorching heat today, my son and I decided that it would be great to head to the new local watering hole and dinner spot, Wipeout Bar and Grill in the Bon Air Shopping Center in Greenbrae to bathe in the A/C and have a quick bit to eat in the California/Surf ambience of the new brain child of Warren, Scooter and Nancy Simmons, founders of Chevy's.

I had the Salmon BLT - hold the B with fries and my fav - a half ginger ale, half cranberry juice.  the sandwich was pretty mediocre.  The salmon was pretty small and underwhelming on the bun.  the French Roll was crunchy and thick, but with such a small portion of salmon I thought I was only eating bread.  The fries were thin, crispy and great.  My drink was too cran and not enough ginger-ale.  My son had the Fish and chips which he complained "smelled weird".  When he dropped a piece on the plate it actually made a sound like a small rock hitting his plate.  Ugh!

We shared the coconut shrimp appetizer which was very coconutty, crisp and tasty and came with a great sauce that was balanced between sweet and spicy.  Hoever, at $8.95 it seemed a bit overpriced.

All in all, love the ambiance, the spirit of the employees and the concept, but the menu still needs a bunch of tweaking before this idea is ready to take on the mantle as successor to Chevy's success.

Chevy's used to inhabit this place back in the day. So with a mixture of excitement and hesitation we ventured here for some food and drinks. What awaited us? A new asian fusion restuarant or Italian family eatery. Nope! Chevy's part deux! Only the margaritas, tortilla machine and sombreros have been replaced with surfing films, surfboards and hella nor-cal gear.

Food is still the same, mexican-ish with salad, burgers and sandwiches dotting the menu. The burrito was big and tasty and the fish tacos on a separate visit were the stand out dish. Come during happy hour and sit in the bar area for some good deals. Beers and the giant plate of nachos will hold you over. There is plenty of outside seating along the patio. Be careful when sitting inside the edges of the surfboard tables are round, and beer glasses easily slip off. Leaving a pile of splintered glass and beer resting below.

And the best thing about Wipeout is the cougars. Nope that is not a drink special.

Well, I've got to say, maybe having kids is key, but I wouldn't feed them the fish tacos...went there last night for the first time....thought the decor was harsh, and the "fun" aspect was adolescent corporate and as calculated as the upside-down visors the staff apparently must wear....My friend ordered the fish tacos, and I could smell the off odor 3 feet away...the tortilla "taco shell" was a steam-blasted flaccidity, but  I did dare to taste one , (after a NINE DOLLAR margarita gave me half a brain in exchange for the whole one I walked in with).  I'll never do that again. I mean I survived and all but I'd rather eat fish from a street cart in Bangkok or Baja, it's much safer...

And to get salsa you have to order guac.....bring your own on both counts....

Sorry, Charlie, this tuna is rancid.....
