We stopped by Witten's for our weekly girls' happy hour. We chose the location because it's right where the traffic starts to suck coming from downtown Fort Worth to NRH/Keller - why not kick back a cold beer and eat some tasty grub instead of fighting road rage?!
We were immediately greeted by Jenni, the owner's wife. She recommended the chicken noodle soup, tortilla soup and egg rolls - all dishes she hand-made. We went with the egg rolls for an appetizer and they were fantastic. One girlfriend tried the chicken noodle soup and really liked it. Later on, we also ordered the chili con queso and it was really, really tasty.
A big beer is priced at $4.50, and they run daily drink specials. They also have daily food specials for $3.99(!).
For the most part, service was pretty good - we had a few lulls once our usual servers were back on the floor, but nothing earth-shattering. The menu options go on forever. I expect we'll add Witten's to our rotation.
I like Wittens. It's less than a mile from my house, has good drink specials and good food. The last few times I've been the waitstaff has been horrible. Either the waitress is filling in or she simply doesn't understand how to earn good tips. Giving attitude to a set of customers who are former waiters, who have been nothing but patient and kind towards you is unacceptable. As we tried to order our last round of drinks we simply gave up on waiting on her, even though we caught her eye 10 mins prior and she said she would be right with us but instead proceeded to chat with some dudes. By the time she made it back to us we just asked for our check instead of the next round of drinks. Next time  if I do decide to go back, ill just sit at the bar and avoid all waitstaff. The bartenders are at least attentive.
Review Source:I've seriously been trying to give this place a shot. Â The service the three times I've been in there is slow and well just plain awful. Â I went in last night at a friends suggestion and I will never go back. Â I had two beers and my friend had water. Â Another couple that we knew stopped in to have a drink with us after dinner. Â They had a total of 2 beers as well. Â When we asked for the check though there was an additional 4 beers and three crown & cokes. Â When I brought this to the bartenders attention he said they were from another couple that sat at the bar and said they were with us. Â I informed him that they weren't. Â His next comment was "well I saw you talk to them I know they were with you". Â He was argumentative about it and the "mystery couple" had already left. Â I'm not sure who was running the scam, but I do not believe if he let a couple skip out on their check it should become my responsibility.
