We stopped by Witten's for our weekly girls' happy hour. We chose the location because it's right where the traffic starts to suck coming from downtown Fort Worth to NRH/Keller - why not kick back a cold beer and eat some tasty grub instead of fighting road rage?!
We were immediately greeted by Jenni, the owner's wife. She recommended the chicken noodle soup, tortilla soup and egg rolls - all dishes she hand-made. We went with the egg rolls for an appetizer and they were fantastic. One girlfriend tried the chicken noodle soup and really liked it. Later on, we also ordered the chili con queso and it was really, really tasty.
A big beer is priced at $4.50, and they run daily drink specials. They also have daily food specials for $3.99(!).
For the most part, service was pretty good - we had a few lulls once our usual servers were back on the floor, but nothing earth-shattering. The menu options go on forever. I expect we'll add Witten's to our rotation.
I like Wittens. It's less than a mile from my house, has good drink specials and good food. The last few times I've been the waitstaff has been horrible. Either the waitress is filling in or she simply doesn't understand how to earn good tips. Giving attitude to a set of customers who are former waiters, who have been nothing but patient and kind towards you is unacceptable. As we tried to order our last round of drinks we simply gave up on waiting on her, even though we caught her eye 10 mins prior and she said she would be right with us but instead proceeded to chat with some dudes. By the time she made it back to us we just asked for our check instead of the next round of drinks. Next time  if I do decide to go back, ill just sit at the bar and avoid all waitstaff. The bartenders are at least attentive.
Review Source:I've seriously been trying to give this place a shot. Â The service the three times I've been in there is slow and well just plain awful. Â I went in last night at a friends suggestion and I will never go back. Â I had two beers and my friend had water. Â Another couple that we knew stopped in to have a drink with us after dinner. Â They had a total of 2 beers as well. Â When we asked for the check though there was an additional 4 beers and three crown & cokes. Â When I brought this to the bartenders attention he said they were from another couple that sat at the bar and said they were with us. Â I informed him that they weren't. Â His next comment was "well I saw you talk to them I know they were with you". Â He was argumentative about it and the "mystery couple" had already left. Â I'm not sure who was running the scam, but I do not believe if he let a couple skip out on their check it should become my responsibility.
Review Source:This bar has room obvious for improvement and it seems that the people in charge dismiss how easy it would be to spruce it up. I feel that an unwritten rule is that bars should be dimly lit. It sets the mood for going out. This bar was lit up like Walmart when I visited. I also noticed there were kids running around, which I find inappropriate. Who knows what kind of bar crowd behavior they could be subjected to. My husband, friends, and I had one drink before we decided to find a better location, and the server, who was very kind, brought over our bills, completely forgetting that I was there. I was seated at the far end of an L-shaped bar, and I guess he couldn't see me, as my best guess, but it just never made sense to me. Everyone else gave him their cards and I asked, "Do you have my receipt?" and he didn't hear me again and quickly walked away with their payments. I had to wait another 10 minutes to close my bill. The crowd is an older, derelict looking bunch, but they seemed to be having a fun time. I would probably visit this location again if they fixed it up - my understanding is that it was opened fairly recently? But the drinks were mixed well and pretty strong, so that was good!
Review Source:Yum! My girlfriend and I had a great time here. We were very quickly greeted by our waitress, who just so happened to be the owner's wife. The jukebox was at a perfect volume, just loud enough for some privacy without making you yell to be heard.
The food was very reasonably priced, which is always a good thing. We chose the beer battered fried mushrooms for our appetizer, and they were delicious. The mushrooms were huge and batter was good. After the appetizer we got our food. I'd ordered the taco platter and my girlfriend chose the Cuban sandwich. The tacos were pretty average (probably above average for a place that isn't a mexican restaurant), but the Cuban was incredible. Pulled pork, ham, pickles, and some delicious sauce made it the star of the night.
The atmosphere here was very nice. Spacious, lots of seating, clean, and an array of customers at the bar who all looked to be having a good time. If you're looking for a local sports bar with no smoking, excellent food (seriously, try that Cuban sandwich), and a small business feel, then Witten's is probably the place for you.
I wish I could review the food but no one aknowledged my husband & I even existing. Â We walked in earlier this evening for dinner, sat ourselves down in a booth, and were ignored. Â There was one server and one bartenter with about 20 ppl eating and drinking. Â Â When we got up to leave that is when the bartender glanced our way and said nothing. Â Too bad since we live in the neighborhood and dine out several times a week.
Review Source:HOLY smokes. Â We decided to veer off the road and stop here and try an actual meal here. I ordered the ceasar salad with blackened chicken and my husband ordered a burger with pepper jack and fried egg.
I thoroughly enjoyed my salad. Fresh crisp lettuce, really good chicken, none of that weird gristly nasty crap, spicy blackened seasoning, and good dressing.
But the crowning achievement was my accidental meeting with the last half of my husbands burger. I was already finished eating and he got barely half way through his burger and said he was done. I decided to try it..just to see cuz I'm kind of a burger snob and am usually let down. Â Oh.. I proceeded to scarf just about the rest of it. It's on one of those sweet rolls that I liken to those little hawaiian rolls we buy for homemade sliders. The cheese was all melty and one with the burger and the fried egg was a thin little crown of goodness. Who thinks of putting a fried egg on a burger? Not me usually but THIS completed it. Â I don't think it even had ketchup or mayo or anything on it but it seriously didn't need it. It was so good that I'm pretty sure I'm going to have it again tonight for dinner. We'll just have to walk there though ;)
Oh and their natural cut fries? Hot and perfectly salty and were great dipped in their yummy salsa. Â No wait for refills..they were attentive without being obnoxious. Â Please stay open and stay busy! That whole strip mall is so dead..we need more local businesses over there that are thriving!
So I'm going to give Witten's another review. Â After my initial review, I was promptly contacted by management/owners apologizing for my previous visit. Â I like that. Â They identified the issues I had, offered a solution and even offered a free dinner and pool and best of all, invited me back.
I am not the type of customer who complains about something hoping I will get something free. Â So I stopped in again last night but didn't seek out management or anything. Â Just a customer....at a business.
I must say, I had a much better experience. Â The beers came quick, they were super cold, they had some good content on TV, staff was friendly, attentive and best of all....prompt. Â Got some grub....and it pretty much is some of the best bar food you can get. Â I mentioned the onion rings in my first review being good. Â They are awesome. Â The other food items I got were very good as well.
I can definitely tell this business wants to be successful. Â I really do like their layout. Â Big bar, lots of pool tables, sprts jerseys, etc....They have taken my feedback and made some immediate improvements. Â They are definitely listening to their customers feedback and my second visit was enough to warrant another one.
Thanks to Wittens for turning a bad experience into a good one.
Visiting with some friends while in town and found this awesome restaurant, bar, & pool hall. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. Highly recommend their burgers, wings and egg rolls. Great hang out place to grab some drinks and a bite with friends. Best of all, there's pool tables and large flat screens to cheer on or ease off the day!
Review Source:An extreme let down! We are locals and were so excited for this bar to open...until now. We walked in and were impressed by how clean the place was but then we sat at the bar for about 8 mins until the bartender even acknowledged us! It then took about another five more mins to get a beer and one mixed drink. The weirdest part might be how unprofessional the bar owners allowed their small children to run around the bar with no shoes on while the other one was strapped to the mother's back! (and it was past 10:00pm by the way) I wasn't sure if we should call TABC or CPS?!
The lady next to me said the bartender couldn't even make her lemon drop shot correctly. Last time I checked butterscotch schnapps wasn't in it either...
Needless to say the non-trained bartender never asked us for another drink or even acknowledged us for that matter! I was heart broken on how horrible the service was cause I really wanted to make this our new spot.
The bartender never came back and we just threw some money down and walked out.
If you like being ignored by an entire staff while children run around barefoot than this is the spot for you!
