I've been here quite a few times and have enjoyed it every time. The two
main reasons are the great beer selection and the atmosphere. A lot of
imports and local beers fairly priced. They usually also have a lot of
great drink specials. The atmosphere is laid back and not rowdy. There is
variety of all kinds of people but mostly the mid 20's college crowd. The
bar can be kind of hard to get to sometimes, but not to the point of being
ridiculous. The bartenders are decent, not exactly rude but not very
personable or friendly either. The only item off their menu I have ever
eaten are the hot wings. Delicious, not greasy or annoyingly spicy, but a
little too much sauce. Â Great patio and outdoor area. Pretty spacious and
very clean, especially the restrooms. Definitely one of my favorite bars!
Sorry if I sound like the disgruntled customer but I've just about had it with this place. The bartenders are fine--at least the ones that served me. No attitude problem and swift, prompt service. But the waitresses. Oh gosh. Major (major) DIVA. Â Like, big time DIVA. For instance, if they're serving a male guy, they'll act like you're hitting on them when all he's doing is just asking for water. Â The water never comes out and te waitress walks right by you like there's drama stirred between you and her. Talk about WEIRD and AWKWARD. What the...? Are the waitresses immature high-schoolers or grown-up professional adults? This is my last time ever ever going there. The place keeps upsetting me and I'm usually very easy-going and laid-back where I don't complain about anything. But this place really offended me. The leadership management is garbage. No more "wurzbach ice house" nonsense. It's gross! Yuck! Big losers!
Review Source:-1 star for parking. The lot is ALWAYS packed, even if the bar itself isn't. I just don't understand it. You have to be careful where you park on the street too...you WILL get towed, especially at the bank and CVS across the street.
The bar itself is a bit of a dive. There is both indoor and outdoor seating, all wooden picnic tables save for barstools and a few random chairs. They ID everyone at the door, and take your ID when you start a tab as well.
The beer selection is pretty decent, and there are good happy hour specials as well. $2.50 wells always, and usually two different happy hours, 4-8pm and after 8, for different deals. The food is pretty good for what it is (greasy bar food), but takes a while when it gets busy.
There are several TVs placed around the bar, this is a great place to watch Spurs games! Â The tables and chairs tend to go fast on game nights, so you have to get there early. If you can't get there early, you can always bring your own chair! When it gets really busy, the probability of seeing your waitress at regular intervals greatly decreases, so its best to order a few drinks at a time if you plan on staying a while.
My first visit was in 2012. Â We got a table outside and had to go inside to ask a waitress for service. Â I've been there several times in the last month, after work and to watch some games with friends. Â Each time was the same story: Â
1 - Parking is a nightmare. Â You have to get there really early or on an off-day to find parking that you don't have to question.
2 - Service is a maybe -unless you are seated at the bar and have established an impromptu connection with one of the bartenders. Â I went on a slower night and sat at the bar and it still took a while to get drinks. Â
There are a couple of bartenders that try  to show great service but it is not the norm.  I think there system of all the bartenders  doing laps around the bar and kind of looking for customers- in-need should change.  They should have sections just like a waitress at a restaurant and focus on those customers.
Waitresses are in the same boat.  They are always significantly out number by the crowd.  They need to hire more and add some registers in other areas with cash drawers, for real.  They have to get change for bills from the bartenders 'cause they don't have cash drawers on their two separate registers.  WTF? Â
Anyway, they don't appear to have sections, but I could be wrong.  One thing is for sure good luck if you sit outside or if you don't have a place to sit - you must fend for yourself and wait in line or squeeze between people at the bar to try and catch someone's attention. Â
There was one ray of hope when I sat outside -  I wish I had gotten her name.
We were sitting outside and I had started a tab at the bar prior.  The waitress that came  (white girl) told me that the bar tab would have to close and a new one open, but she would do it for me "no problem."
Ever since, the story has Never been the same.  Sitting outside with a bar tab open, finally get the attention of a waitress and she says "You have to close that tab first and start a new one with me." Sitting inside at a table is the same story.  Thanks for the consistent service.
3. Food is nothing special. Â
4. Security is a plus. Â Door guys are cool unless you have visible tattoos, then you have to undergo a secondary inspection, literally! Â I guess they are keeping gang-bangers out, but I'm not sure. Â
PS Â When you order a water with your beer, most of the time, the the water has the taste of the last drink that was in the glass.
I've been coming here for about four months. My buddy's much longer and know the bartenders by name. Awesome happy hours through the night.Great place to play darts, pool and free ping pong. The music is always hopping. They plenty of ginat flats screens and are showing multiple sports at the same time, except for Spurs Games that get a few extra screen.
It's a mixed aged crowd but leans toward upper 20's. You'll catch the girls from a variety of alcohol brands giving aways shots and mixers.
For me it's all about hanging with my friends and we enjoy it here.
I went with my boyfriend and two friends. They all got beers, I got a g&t, and we shared wings and queso. The food was ok, hit the spot, but nothing spectacular. I think a lot of people were there after work for drinks and to play ping pong. It's kind of like a dive but not really with a bouncer there. Â I hear it gets crazy late at night on weekends, but it was really chill the night we were there. I'd pass on going back in favor of visiting other places.
Review Source:I kinda dig this place, a lot actually. Don't let the facade and location fool you. Sure it's got a ghetto vibe to it at the beginning, but once you take a glance at the extensive beer selection, taste the food, and have a go at the ping pong table, I guarantee that you'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you've already enjoyed spending time here amongst friends.
Unlike the Saucer, this place isn't adorned with floor to ceiling plates signed by devoted patronage. I suppose part of its charm lies in its relative anonymity. It has ample space for large groups to easily find tables and chairs to accommodate everyone. Although I'm by no means a beer connoisseur, I'd still consider the beer selection to be fairly comprehensive. The food was pretty decent, sweet potato fries and thin crust hand tossed pizza all fairly priced as well. Most importantly, the ping pong table just elevates this place a head above all others for me. Free rounds of ping pong after a drink or two makes for a perfect friday happy hour to forgo the woes of the passing week.
It is A-Ok, but do you really just want to be okay? Â I've been to this place more than a few times, but lately I've had really bad experiences so I probably won't be going back. Â I really like the environment, super laid back. Â There are plenty of TVs and they have a good beer selection. Â They have good bar games: ping pong, pool, and darts. Â
What I did not like are the RUDE bartenders. Â I brought a friend there for the first time and they were really short with her and and very unfriendly...as if they had better things or people to attend to there. Â They lose their heads when it gets busy and for a place that seems too busy, the bar was understaffed. Â The food is decent with one exception below, but the way to order is awful since you have to order at the bar and the bartenders are rude and understaffed. Â It makes one not want to order food. Â Also, they have no REAL vegetarian options unless you count the cheese pizza (or cheese anything), but it has absolutely no flavor. C'mon not even a good veggie quesadilla or veggie burger? Â
There are bouncers, or guards, at the door which makes me feel safe and that's nice, but at the same time I feel like I have to watch what I say or how I act. Â It's a bit intimidating.
I've visited this establishment twice. The first time was a Saturday night the next was a Monday night during a Spurs game.
The first time, some Saturday, I couldn't get over how rude the bartenders, behind the bar, were. BEYOND RUDE. You are a bartender, If you cannot deal with people, you need to find a different job. Besides the drink making, I'm sure the next on the job description list is CONSTANT Customer interaction. hmph. If I wasn't at the Ice House to celebrate a friend's birthday, I would have left in an instant. If you're busy, which it definitely was, acknowledgement is not so hard. Beyond being rude, they were understaffed. My thoughts as a bartender working at an understaffed bar? Awesome, more tips, more $$, more people interaction.
The vibe is pretty cool. A step above Dive-y yet dive-y ;) Tons of beer choices. Picnic tables adorn the perimeter of this kind of outdoor indoor bar. The bathrooms are tiny, only two stalls on the ladies' side so when you gotta go- GO!
My second visit, simply to give it another chance on a not-so-busy night was a refreshing difference. Since there were available tables, a few of us plopped down and we had a waitress! what?! Â She was more than pleasant and the drinks specials were raging.
I will be attempting another Saturday night, but if it is as unwelcoming as my first visit, this time I won't be afraid to head out elsewhere.
Grab some new bartenders, owners, It'll really boost your sales & profits.
My friends love coming here for drinks on Thursday's and besides the cheap drinks, I am really not sure why. Parking sucks, BAD, and the whole police presence makes me feel like I am at a high school football game...not to mention getting hit on them as you leave for the night. Not cool. Really, is this place that hostile that 4-5 policemen are warranted? Ehh. There are picnic tables lined against the interior walls which is nice if you want to sit and chat with your friends, but makes it awkward for mingling with other people.
This bar doesn't stand out to me as anything special, and the cons outweigh my typical indifference towards dive bars. I don't like this place, and I hate it when my friends want to come here.
Perhaps I would have enjoyed my experience here better if I didn't roam around looking for parking for twenty minutes...
Oh, but then I walk in and I'm immediately asked for my ID by two bouncer looking dudes at the front door. Is this a club? I can't remember the last time I walked into a bar for happy hour at 6pm on a weeknight and was carded at the door. Just not my scene. Especially after fighting an annoying parking situation.
Maybe this place just requires a bit of advance planning (carpooling, getting there early, etc), but I know of too many other happy hour spots that don't, hence the three stars.
Then again, an uber cheap happy hour special and a sausage fest (seriously, so many dudes) might be worth the hassle to some. I just don't get it.
DUDE! They have a foosball table in the corner, drink specials each and every time I come here, and a pretty cool patio too. I definitely love this place regardless of how many cops are posted up at Frost Bank waiting for cars to drive off away from this place.
I did have a rough visit the first time I came here though - read on.
First time I came here some dude with an Army shirt tried to get my attention by throwing limes at me and my friend as we sat outside to catch up. I realized he was doing this right after I saw a lime land on the picnic table we were occupying. Â Apparently he was getting his panties in a wad because I didn't hear him try to call after me (by saying "hey, you!"). Seriously, come on dude! You should at least be DIRECT and approach me and say hello first. Damn.
It was apparent I was going to have an issue with this dude when I turned around and said "HEY! What's your problem?". Â He then started pacing back and forth as if he was going to hit me while saying "MY PROBLEM?! YOU AINT BEEN LOOKING AT ME AS I WAS TALKING TO YOU". I stood up and that is when all of his friends came closer to me and between the guy. Â I started by telling the guy who was throwing limes at me "I didn't realize you were speaking to me. I was having a conversation with my friend and had NO CLUE you were behind me much less speaking to me!". Â My friend took my cue of standing up and notified the friendly doorman that greeted us as we walked in on what was going on. His friends tried to calm him down but as soon as he threw his beer to the ground, the doorman walked out from inside and saw his action. Â He pulled the guy and asked him to leave. Â This angered the man and as my friend encouraged me to relocate ourselves inside, the man started accusing me of "starting" with him. Â The doorman proceeded to walk the guy out and ended up coming up to my friend and I to apologize. Â
All in all the night could have been MUCH worse but thanks to the friendly and fast acting staff there were no issues.
What a selection of craft beers!
They've got quite a variety of different beers- in bottles and on tap!
I was so pleased that the bartenders and waitstaff knew about what they were pouring too. They offer a menu of beers- sorted into lagers and ales. They had all the regular favorites, and a few different ones you usually don't see on tap. However, they were out of a few of the beers I wanted. The glasses weren't as clean as they should have been.
They offer lots to do! There's ping pong, and video games.
There's an outdoor area that's comfy!
The prices are decent, and there's a menu of bar food too. No complaints from the diners!
My main concern is that the parking here can really be problem. Apparently, the place gets pretty filled up on certain nights, and tow trucks line up to tow people away from some restricted parking area. Â :(
I've always liked this place. Its a great place for a beer or two after
work. After many times of going to ice house I had the worst experience ever. Â This man started screaming at me to get out because he was the "owner.". Obviously he wasn't. glad I was civilized and talked to the guy which he apologized afterwards. Still, it was so disrespectful to me, my brother and friends. The bartenders are awesome though.
Cool and laid back joint with plenty of games to keep you entertained like pool, darts, ping pong, and..............skee ball! Â Who needs to go to overpriced and crowded Dave and Buster's for games, food and drinks when you can come here instead? Â And WIH knows their beers. Â Plenty of lookers here. Â I saw a couple of gorgeous Asian women at the bar and a stunning, tall blonde drop in for a few minutes.
Review Source:The parking is horrific. The lot is so tiny with very limited spaces. The businesses next door will tow. But cannot blame them for this. if i were them I would care more about my customers than the bar next doors customers.
The place is very loud. Don't go here for conversation. If you want to talk be prepared to repeat yourself and have the person you are talking to repeat themselves.
Nothing special with the beer selections.
The burgers are out of this world.
Bartender + looks like Adam Levine = Oh.MY. Â
I was in eye candy heaven!!! Â Met up with some fellow Yelpers (when am I not??) for happy hour on a Friday. Â Note: Do not park at CVS or the surrounding businesses because you will get towed! Â
The burgers were damn good and prices were fair. Â Parking was absolutely disgraceful. Â Since this place used to be a Blockbuster Video a few years back, I suppose they never really had to stress out over customers packing it in for the new releases. Â One of our Yelpers couldn't even make it in because she spent so much time trying to find a space, it was just pointless for her to try to join us.
Sometimes I scroll through Yelp! and think I've been there many of times, why did I not review it? It could be because of the vast amount of alcohol consumption that I don't remember the place. Sorry Wurzbach Ice House you made my list.
In fact, I've been here several times. If memory serves me correctly, they have ping pong, pool tables, and corn hole. Corn what??? Oh the bean bag game....... They have a large outdoor patio which, I dig. The inside is kinda like sitting outside when they have the garage doors up. As others have commented they have good HH prices.
I had the fried mushrooms....they're beer battered style. However, I've never been to a bar that has mind-blowing food. So if anyone knows of one, please steer me to that direction. I will say they have a nice brew selection. Being a craft beer enthusiast they offer a nice array of them. There are times I get a MillerCoors or InBev product, mainly during scorching hot days of South Texas. At least here I get a choice of either a craft brew or just the standard rice fermented beverage.
The bar staff has always been on their game. No major issues. The parking can be a little cramped during busy days. Seriously, it used to be a Blockbuster I think...they didn't need that much parking back then. However, there's a couple of close lots that are kind enough not to tow your vehicle. I would peg this as a bar to kick back and hang out with your friends. It's kind of college-esque to it.
Really. Â Cool. Â Laid Back. Â Bar.
What I absolutely love about this place:
A.  Service.  After a couple of time being there, the head bartender/manager already  knew my name-not sure if that's a good or bad thing!
B. Â FANTASTIC happy hour prices: Â
$1 Lonestar/Lonestar light, PBR and other trash can beers (Tuesdays)
   $2 Texas Beers Real Ale/St Arnolds(Wednesdays after 8)
   $2 Dometics/$3 Imports (Fridays)
   $2 Shiners on Sunday
C. They constantly rotate the craft beer they carry (means I no longer have to go to Austin to find new gems - I know, there's places like Yardhouse and Flying SAUSAGE but they're, as my sister says, "DOUCHEY").
D. Â They have food now - all their appetizers are very good but my fave are:
-Their triple dipper, chips with queso, salsa and fresh, yes FRESH Guac - is extremely good
  - The mini corn dogs are pretty good too (and I don't like corn dogs)
-The Jalapeno Cheese Bites are really really tasty
E. Outdoor Seating
Nuff said.
Selection - 3/5
Service - 4/5
Price - 4/5
Atmosphere - 4/5
I don't mean to brag but I firmly believe my buddies and I helped this bar grow into what it is today. When Wurzbach Ice House first opened, we hosted a few law school events here, ranging from mid-afternoon happy hours to Friday night extravaganzas. Jukebox? You're welcome. Ping pong table? You're welcome. We also told them to get a shuffle board, but we're still waiting on that.
Haha, okay gonna stop tooting our own horn =)
Today, the bar has grown into one of the hottest spots in town. They built a nice patio which is perfect for the warm Texas spring and summer nights. The parking lot is kinda small, but there is ample parking on the street adjacent to the property.
The bar itself is huge. There are plenty of stools at the bar, cafeteria-like seating around the bar area, and additional seating and tables in what I like to call, "the nook." The drink specials are pretty good, but the prices have come up a little bit with the increase in popularity--but that comes with the territory. There are TVs on top of the bar, usually showing the games/sportscenter.
Only reason why it's not getting five stars is because they took out almost all of the hip hop in the jukebox. I mean, don't get me wrong, I can get down to country. In fact I absolutely love country and classic rock. But there are some nights where you just want to hear Jay Z, Kanye, TI, Biggie, Pac, etc.
Close to work, close to my casa, close to many good times. All the bartenders are great and they serve great drinks. Can't go wrong with giant connect four, pool, darts and ping pong. I hear they are working on their kitchen and hope to open soon. I always meet friends here after work and we always have a great time.
Review Source:I love the laid back atmostphere of this bar. I came here with a couple of coworkers and had a few drinks. No one was super dressed up but it was obvious most people there were in the "young professional" group.
There's a ping pong table, hacky sac area outside, and various other games. The prices were reasonable as far as bars go. its still cheaper to drink at home but you can drink here without busting the budget.
The parking lot is teeny. I was lucky enough to get a spot last time but I imagine that most people have to park elsewhere during the busy times.
I saw that some people complained about the windows.... I loved the windows! Don't know what the problem is.
I had a great time here, a very unique feel to it. I spent almost all my time playing ping pong of course, which is not a good idea if you're on a date. Before I realized it, I was sober and drenched, yuck! What is a bit annoying is the placement of the table. When the ball goes off the table it ends up in the crowd. It's great to randomly pick up chicks, but I'm too competitive for that. Again, if you see me there, challenge me, I'll give you a run for your money, or if it's your thing, you'll meet new people chasing the ball down :).
Review Source:Well I have been putting it off for a while but here is my review for Wurzbach Ice House! I like this bar alot. It is big, there are always a good amount of people there where it isn't too packed. This is the only bar I know of that has a ping pong table! There are also three dart boards and two pool tables. The drinks are pretty cheap and they usually have a decent happy hour.
One thing that makes this bar just a little different than most is all of the windows. You almost have a 360 degree view of everything outside because of the amount of windows.
This bar is a must stop if you are out having some drinks!
"Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Benjamin Franklin. It's no wonder then that the Wurzbach Ice House was built.
They have about six beers on tap, and I'm guessing some 50 bottled and canned beers. Everything from the basic Ales and Lagers to the high alcohol beers made by Monks. If you prefer liquor they have that too. Either way this bar will satisfy your thirst.
It's a clean and spacious bar that used to be a Blockbuster video store. The outdoor patio wraps around one side of the building in the shape of a horseshoe. Smoking is not allowed inside so you don't leave smelling like an ashtray. Â If you want to play games they have a ping pong table, darts, pool tables, and an over-sized connect four. Or you can just sit back, chill, and watch the TV's located around the bar area.
Bartender Staci is my favorite. She is funny, sarcastic, and keeps the drinks flowing. Tell her I sent you. I'm sure it won't get you much, but might earn me a free drink or two. Ha-ha.
MY KIND OF BAR!!
I can't say enough about this place, I find myself making up excuses to hit up ice house. Â I enjoy the atmosphere, the prices are low, and the bartenders are friendly and helpful. Â
I have enjoyed watching this place evolve since its opened. Â The patio was definitely a nice touch, and I like how it wraps around the entire bar. Â Ping pong and pool tables is a plus, and the addition of more dart boards is pretty good. They have plenty of tv's around the bar, but I would like to see more around the pool, and dartboard area. Â A friend of mine recently mentioned that it was missing a Foosball table, but something tells me its in the works. Â
Parking is hard to come by now, can't imagine how they will accommodate more people in the future. Â Drop by any Friday or Saturday night and you will find a packed parking lot, with even more people inside.
Props to Justin S. for telling me about Wurzbach Ice House!
Situated off Wurzbach in a parking lot behind a Popeye's Chicken sits this gem. (Parking is hard to come by. I actually wound up parking across the street.) Inside, find a cool bar with a real ice house feel, an outdoor patio, and pool tables, ping pong tables and fun galore.
The staff is friendly, fast and efficient. The bar was packed the night I dropped by but they did their best to make sure we always had fresh drinks in our hands. And Justin S did his best to make sure the drinks were supplemented with shots of every shape and color. And I thank him for how sluggish my morning was today...
I went here recently and must say it was great. The drink prices are super low and has a genuine ice house vibe although you can't bring your own bottle like most ice houses. What I most like is the fact smoking is not allowed inside. It is so cool to go to a bar and not pick up a bad habit being there. The bar staff is super friendly and accommodating. Its still getting up and rolling but I'm sure it will be a success. Its a great place to grab a drink after work or getting the night started. Plus its a good place to catch a game with your buddies. Make it a point to check out Wurzbach Ice House. On a side not there is plenty of room for dancing if you get the inclination.
