Went here with a friend last week for drinks after work and really enjoyed it. The drinks were the highlight of the night. They were fresh and different! Loved ordering different cocktails. Although they are $9.50 a pop! They have a couple on special for $5. The music was a turned up way too loud near the end of the evening and there weren't any people in the bar except the two of us. Everyone else was on the patio. So it was hard to talk to each other. That was the only down side. Otherwise I will definitely be going here again! Cheers!

Four stars for the cocktails. I ordered what I believe is called a China lily and loved it. I sampled my friends and theirs were pretty good, too.

I went to the bar and the owner was there, was arrogant and rude, we  got into a dispute that was so silly. Then we observed the owner talking trash about the silent partner which seemed inappropriate and unprofessional....I could not get out of there fast  enough. The credit card machine wasn't  working so the owner comped us... we left as quickly as possible, would never go back  there again.

This place was great until hipsters ruined it. Thanks a lot, hipsters. Go back to Portland. I don't want some douchebag "mixologist" to sell me an overpriced cocktail, and I damn sure don't want an overzealous (and probably high/drunk) douchebag to sell me one. If that's your thing, fine. I'll never go to this place again.

I love this place!  I used to go here back in college when it was a total dump (the Zephyr).  Now that I'm older, it was great to see what they have done with the place.  AMAZING fresh cocktails and AMAZING service. Boyd is a cocktail genius, not to mention a very entertaining character.  We have been there when he is not bartending and all of the others bartenders are great too.  In fact, the bar back is better than the bartender at most other bars.  Prices are reasonable for what you get and the atmosphere is lively and fun without being too loud or frat boyish.  We highly recommend!

Finally was able to check out Zephyr months after hearing about it. I was expecting the place to be busier on a Saturday night/St. Patty's weekend but for some reason it wasn't. This was okay with me since my bf and I were just looking to hang out and have a couple drinks. We were welcomed by bartenders Chef Boyd and Kenny with such great enthusiasm. They told us what the bar is all about: no refined sugar used in anything served & everything is made from fresh ingredients. I had a couple different cocktails that were just refreshing on the palate.  I really enjoyed them but what I enjoyed most out of the whole experience was how down-to-earth the bartenders were. They are both great conversationalists; they engaged with their customers like old pals would. It was a great time! The decor is nice, and I love that the walls are covered with local artwork. We will come here more often for sure. Just a tip, happy hour for $4 cocktail specials is between 4-6pm seven days a week. Can't beat that!

False advertising. They say they have over 100 beers. When we went there were maybe 20-30 on their draft and bottle list, none of which were too interesting or hard to find.

Their mixed drinks were different and fairly good. Their bartender though was quite intense and over the top. If that's your thing this place would be great. Not my thing at all.

Would always pick the Public House, Chapel, or Brasserie St. James to have a drink in this area.

The Zephyr is under new ownership, and it's clearly going in a new direction. What used to be a dirty dive bar that featured local bands and questionable company now has lighting, clean furniture, and fine cocktails. As the head bartender, Boyd offers 25-years experience as a "mixologist", and uses local businesses around Reno for his ingredients.

I've been here four times since the new ownership, and have had great cocktails with every visit. Sometimes there are large groups, and sometimes it's just a handful of people. The music is usually playing something from Pandora, although I miss some of the bands that once played under this roof.

Custom cocktails are $9 each, and while they've got several 'specials' posted they'll also make whatever you desire. There's a whole lot of top-shelf knowledge to comes with each glass!

Stopped by for an after dinner cocktail with a friend and my BF. It was a slow Thursday evening with just us and 3 other people. Upon our arrival we were "thrown" some menus by the bartender. It quickly became obvious that he was drunk. Not buzzed, but stumbling over his words and unable to walk properly drunk. We ordered our drinks, chugged them, and got the heck out of there as fast as we could, but not before his numerous attempts at trying to engage us in his own special version of "Drunk Bartender Sing-a-long" to the obnoxious rock music blasting over the speakers.

Trashy and tragic. An upscale cocktail house this is not.

This is the place to be if you want cocktails that are a culinary experience.
Boyd is not only friendly and knowledgeable - he's passionate. His cocktails reflect a sense of taste and talent you'd be hard pressed to find elsewhere.
He may seem a little nuts, talking about ruby red grapefruit, but one sip and you'll realize he's on to something.
Hawaiian Christmas was good, and what made it great was the cinnamon. And that, my friends  is how you take a drink and give it the credit of a culinary dish.
Thanks again Boyd! Can't wait to come back and savor another glass.

Fun place.  Like the local flavors they offer.

New place is cool, like the way it looks and the outside area and bartenders are nice, One thing I didn't like is that one of the bartenders (whom I think was the manager) would dig into the fruit on the bar with his hands and just eat it right there.

This bar is great, the bartender gets fresh stuff everyday and really knows how to make his cocktails pop. Dude clearly knows his business.

Not to take away from the place though but the dude needs to slow his roll a little. I've seen him get out of control a few times and I really want this bar to succeed. I know I'd probably go a little nuts too if I had my own bar but this place needs to survive because it's awesome and it would suck if it didn't reach it's potential because the owner let himself be a little too nuts.

One of the best bars for a classic fresh cocktail I've ever been to in my entire life! Flat out amazing! Coming from a bartender I don't know a better bar in Reno!

I met my husband at the "old" Zephyr, which, by definition, was a dive bar. I prefer the dive bar style Zephyr.  I have been wanting to come in for a while after the new remodel and I think the place looks great. The bartender was a really sweet young lady, but I wish that they would tell you they're making your drink with a redbull knockoff (NASTY). Drinks are kind of pricey for the location and my taste, but I guess that's part of classing it up in Reno. I hope the place is successful, especially since the new owners have put so much money into making it look better.

Great little bar! The bartender, Boyd, was amazing-very talented and had great energy...customized a vodka, watermelon, cucumber drink for me-delicious! A must-go for any bar-hopper!

We absolutely love Zephyr! The owner Boyd, and his helper "Stacey", sorry Mikey jk are a joy to be around. The service is top shelf, the drinks are off the charts great, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. The covered outdoor patio is just what the doctor ordered for smokers, I mean he would if doctors condoned smoking anyway. You'll do yourself a disservice if you go in and order a well rum and coke, though I suspect it will be the most technically correct well-cocktail you'll ever drink. Instead, open your mind, tell Boyd what your favorite base liquor is, give him a clue to your taste preferences, sweet, sour, hot, etc and allow him to make some suggestions. Or pick something from his specials board and go with it. Our last visit, I sampled all three, and each was as great as the next. I plan to do the same on our next visit.

I went to this place one time before the new ownership and remodel... and never came back because it sufficiently scared the shit out of me. I swear there used to be knives stuck in the walls and people doing blow off the bar. Happy to say this is no longer the case...

I love what the new owner is trying (operative word) to do here. House made cocktails from seasonal produce and no refined sugar is a great thing. I came in on my birthday and homeboy made me a shot of vodka, cucumber and watermelon and it was just about the most refreshing thing I have ever had.

HOWEVER, there is something very disjointed about the atmosphere of the place. It's not dark and beckoning like a bar of this caliber should be. I hate to say it -- actually, no I don't -- it's just not very cool. It definitely could be though if they changed up the lighting and injected some sexy into the place. The bar doesn't pull on me to linger in it, sit on its lap and buy its $9 cocktails, which is critical to long nights out with the boys and girls.

One evening a group of people were bar hopping and on a whim came upon a magnificent bar. The owner Boyd was cheerful and seemingly happy to see the rowdy bunch. As they sat at the bar, Boyd, like an amazing wizard behind the counter, concocted rich and beautiful cocktails full of flavor and alcohol. After these amazing cocktails and some rich stories from Boyd, a family was derived.
My friends an I frequent certain types of bars. Particularly those that have and hold that family type environment. Boyd is our brother and Zephyr has become our house. The drinks are fantastic, as the bar only uses the freshest of ingredients, and the atmosphere is perfect. Come down cuz we'll be there and Boyd will be there, drink in hand, welcoming you

Went here last night with some friends from out of town because Chapel was insane crowded and I was interested in the remodel of the Zephyr. HOLY SHIT, THERE IS NO SIMILARITY IN THE OLD ZEPHYR. Its like a completely different bar.

We were warmly greeted by the owner Boyd who has a passion and pride for bartending rarely seen. This guy has won several awards for his bartending and it shows in the drinks he makes. Apparently he gets fresh produce from local farmers every morning and that dictates what drinks will be poured that day.

The drinks have descriptions that sound more like a fancy restaurant with phrases like "infused with" and "honey reduction."

There were too many ingredients to list for each drink, but we were all blown away by  each drink. The only downside for this is the price, which was $9/drink. Coming from the Bay, this sounds like a great price for such expert "mixology," but a lot of people in Reno dont have that kind of money to throw around regularly.

Great interior and back patio remodel...

Fantastic beer list, the draft is following that up pricing trend that  a lot of these places are doing, 6 bucks for a premium domestic micro brew. I'm not really that bothered by it, you gotta stay in business and with no supporting food action it may be the only way to make the numbers work.

Okay, this ain't your daddy's Zephyr.  You know, that old, grunge, punk, hardcore, dark, dirty, hole in the wall?  Well, I kid you not, it's now a lot more upscale, cozy, warm, and trendy.  They redid everything except the name.  Not sure why they didn't change the name.  They interior is totally different with a nice loft seating area, and on the old stage is a nice couch, and where the pool table used to be, two high tables.  The drink menu is completely redone.  112 beers, no sh t.  A better liquor and liqueur collection than most bars in Reno.  And one of four bars I know of that has egg white cocktails.  The other ones are Chapel, 775 Gastropub, Reno Public House, and Lucky Lane at CommRow, altho Lucky is always out of eggs.  The only thing is NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT THIS!!!!!!  It's like the old Sezmu, one of Reno's great hidden treasures.  Don't be scared by the Virginia St facade and drive round back to Holcomb to park.  There's a nice outdoor area too.

Stopped in to check the remodel, though I never checked out the original.  Apparently, it was a total dive before, and now it's gone for a high end feel.  Lots of red, with big red arm chairs and couches, and dark colors to round out the joint.  Staff was decked out in black button downs, with shiny yellow ties, embroidered with their names.  Interior is a bit interesting, with a split-level that's maybe 6 steps up, and looks out over the bar.

Out back, there's a gas firepit and there was a taller fire sculpture/heater as well.  The firepit provided some nice warmth on the cold winter evening.

Decent selection, though the bartender we ordered from didn't really know much about what she was pouring.  GF had a Russel's whiskey, and I had a Old Raj gin and tonic.

Place was pretty quiet, maybe a dozen total including the staff.  Crowd was definitely older, I'd guess upper 40s, lower 50s.  There's a sign over the backdoor that has the Toby Keith "I love this bar" quotation on it, which along with the older clientele made me say "This bar may not be a good fit for me . . ."

Still, the remodel is interesting, and we spent some time talking to the owner (young guy, maybe mid-20s) out back, who seemed friendly enough.
