I first fell in love with Zorba's a few years back and it wasn't here, it was in San Mateo. I haven't had some really great pizza in at least a month with the exception of Skipolini's in Concord. So when my girlfriend let me get pizza for my last meal before we started our healthy eating plan for Hawaii, I looked up pizza in the area.
We choose Zorba's over Toto's because Toto's overcooked my pizza the last and first time I went. I had to give Zorba's in SSF a try and it did NOT disappoint! It was just like falling in love with Zorba's again.
The place was absolutely dead when we came in around 8pm on Sunday night. The staff was happy to see us and they provided great service and conversation. We checked in on yelp and got some FREE garlic bread.
We ordered a small Hawaiian pizza. I love their thick crust, flavorful sauce and just overall taste. The pizza box says "best pizza on the peninsula" and I absolutely agree. As I write this review, I'm dreaming about it. The garlic bread was great as well. Nothing like free garlic bread but it's good enough to pay for too. I would just do pick up if you have problems with delivery, etc. It's the BEST in the peninsula!
I was visiting my mom last week in South SF as I do each week and we ordered from Zorba's in SSF. Â instead of ordering pizza like we usually do, mom ordered a mini pizza but I ordered the Greek Slovaki and OMG was it screamin'! Â It was soooo good and I mean everything was out of this world...will be ordering this item a lot in the future!
Review Source:The folks I work with LOVE this place. Â They love the topping options and the chewy crust. Â Not my first choice for pizza in the area.
Whenever we get delivery from Zorbas it takes forever and the pizza is always soggy. Â Work is less than a mile from Zorbas...a straight shot down El Camino..I don't get it. Â When we got delivery last week, the pizzas looked like they'd been carried sideways. Â Are the doors that narrow? Â Don't think so. Â When a coworker asked the driver about it he said "That's how it was when they gave it to me" and shrugged his shoulders. Â yeah right...
"Oh heck yeah" for their pizza! "Oh I don't know" for their pasta. Â I love their pizza at Zorbas. What is there to argue about? This particular branch could use some surgery on their customer service and get up to par with the Millbrae one. However, the pizza is just as muthalovin' yummy! I thought their Chicken Parm was a bit on the winey side, there was too much wine. If I could taste the wine, that means there's too much! The chicken was a lil on the tough side, and I just could not enjoy tasting that wine at all. Their pesto spaghetti was on hit though. Deliciously pesto-y and cheesy, just the way I like it with al dente spaghetti pasta. I don't think I have to explain myself on why I love their pizza so much here- as you should try it and see for yourself.
Review Source:Not half bad. We had chicken parm and a chicken pita and ate at the restaurant. Service was a leeetle slow considering we were the only people in the place, but not to the point that I got annoyed...and I get annoyed easily, so there's that.
The chicken pita was obviously precooked and warmed, but not half bad for all that.
Baby cannolis made on the spot, and that is nothing to sneeze at!
I find the food is very good but it's noisy with the TV and the radio blaring in the background. It makes it feel more like a bar than a restaurant. I would like it quieter when I'm eating. Today I actually pulled out my foam earplugs and wore them while I at lunch there. Otherwise, the food is exceptional. My mom even had said it's the best pizza she's had in a long time. I concur.
Also, I miss Teresa who used to serve there who I thought she was awesome!
I LOVE their crust!!!! If you like chewy, fluffy crust, this is a good place. The last time we went there, about a week ago, we got two pizzas, they were VERY generous with the cheese!!! If you don't like cheese, make sure you tell them ahead of time, light on the cheese. : Â - ) Don't forget the http://Restaurant.com coupon with the http://restaurants.com discount code!
P.S. agreed, the service isn't the greatest, but the food is good and the servings on Pasta are huge!!!
I order from Zorba's all the time, it such a treat and a long time family favorite. I used to visit the location in Millbrae as a kid, but I remember only going on special occasions, like after a good little league game. I was very happy when they opened a location in SSF so we can eat there more frequently.
I love the Bianco pizza and the Jalapeno poppers! The outside pizza crust is thick, but the middle is thin. They always use plenty of toppings and it can get messy! I can always tell when its Zorba's pizza. My husband appreciates that he can get a hamburger if he's not in a pizza mood :)
Recently my coworkers have discovered this place and now we use it to cater office lunches.
I used to come here 20 years ago. The pizza used to have the best sauce. Ant the crust was amazing.
It must have changed ownership. Because now, Round Table can do way better then this place. Sauce tastes like someone mixed some tomato paste and a little pepper and that's all. Â Crust is ok but not like before.
I'll never return. So long Zorba's! Guess you can't always go back.
Pizza is good - lots of toppings and great tomato sauce on pizza. Â But their service and decor leaves much to be desired. Â We were pretty much ignored by server as we were not a big group. Â Had to get our water and ask several times where our food was. Â Plus this has got to be the plainest looking place I've seen - handwritten signage, no decor, and looking more like a take out place than place to sit down and enjoy one's meal.
We were there on a Friday and there was a rush of kids and famlies. Â But probably would not come again unless for a takeout pizza.
hahahahah how does this place have three stars?! Have any of you ever eaten pizza of any quality? Seriously this place is a block from my house so I have visited here four times. Lol where do I begin. The wings are straight out of a costco bag and warmed in the pizza oven. The pizza is not fresh probably from the morning. I have never had such awful pizza. Please people do not inflate these ratings, you are misleading people and wasting their time and money.
Review Source:I just came here with some former co-workers, and the pizza was top notch! It was just the bee's knees. The crust was perfect, the amount of cheese on it was beautiful, and the toppings were magnificent.
Since it was a Wednesday, we ordered two pizza's with two toppings for only $20, and some root beers. I had a diet coke. Apparently their root beer is awesome too.
18 minute wait for the pizza after it was ordered, not too bad had time to chat.
As I was eating the pizza, I could not understand why the place was empty during the daytime. I heard there was one bad experience amongst us (soggy pizza), but I had a great eating experience.
I was on my lunch break, I have never been to zorba's never really wanted to but It was the closest thing around. The lines inside Smart & Final were rediculously too long just to get a soda and chips. So Zorba's was the place to go. Found out the pizza that was supposed to be 2.75 ended up to be 6.xx with tax.....(with Coke but still) WTH!!?? right ,so I was upset having to break a $10 . So I sat down and waited. The funny looking man that works there, gave me my peeksa and it was bigger than avarage and it was not bad, not bad at all. I'd go here If I had money to waste.
-Taste for pizza(Little Above Avarage)
-Pricey
-Funny lookin dude
-Goodservice.
-If you like to be the only perons inside eating.
This is the place for you.
I like my pizza cheesy, with tons of toppings, and with crust that doesn't taste like cardboard. Zorba's totally delivers! BTW they do deliver. I recently dropped by and got an 8" personal pizza (4 small slices) and it was great. For $7 you get three toppings - I got sausage, garlic, and mushrooms and it was very tasty. Ingredients were fresh and generous in amount. Portions were generous - I only ate about half of my personal pizza and saved the rest for later. Â The crust was also above average - not the best ever, but there are too many places where I just wanna throw the crust in the trash. It does seem like they make everything fresh - so my drop-in took 20 minutes to be served. I've gotten delivery once and it took 45-60 minutes. So don't come here if you're in a rush! The exception might be for their $1.99 cheese slice which is pre-made.
Review Source:For years, I just passed by this place (and the one in Millbrae) and never tried it. Â Now, after two visits to the South City location, I have to say that I'm a fan of their food.
I've had two pies there so far. Â The first was a pepperoni--it was okay. Â The next one was salami, sausage, and pepperoni and it was bursting with flavor--it had been quite a while since I had a pizza that good and I stuffed myself. Â My wife liked it too and also likes their gyros a lot. Â We're looking forward to getting more great pizza here in the near future.
Just looking at the reviews, I can see that this Zorba's may be inconsistent with their pizza quality. Â With one fair and one great pie there so far, I can see this may be the case. Â I want to go there more and see how they trend.
Just one thing. . .when we went there, there was a man who walked in who appeared to be mentally ill. Â He asked us for some coke, change, some pizza, and generally made a nuisance of himself. Â He also got mad and stormed out when we told him no. Â He has a tendency to come in to this place to ask for stuff periodically, so watch out.
They got me in the door with their sign for $1.99 pizza slice. I was shopping next door and thought that sounded like a good idea. Thing is, that price is for cheese only. In my book, sure it's pizza if it's just cheese. And it's still sandwich if it's just cheese. But I want more than just cheese.
The service was really good. I was going to eat in, and when asked if I wanted a drink, I declined. I sat at the bar and next thing I know I was given a glass of ice water and nice flat ware with which to eat. She even brought out a shaker of parm cheese.
The pizza took a few minutes and came out not like it was a slice that was topped and then heated for a minute in the oven. It came out like it was a slice from a fresh pie. I was was impressed with the crust and toppings, but thought it could use more sauce.
Really good service and a nice slice, even if it wound up costing $3.74 instead of $2.18.
Used to live in the neighborhood so i ended up eating there a lot.
Pizza: most of the time it's really good. BUT on certain occasions it has been way too oily, undercooked or overcooked. The Zorba's all meat is good.
Gyros: my favorite!!! I miss it.
Staff: really nice and friendly.
I find it a little pricey though.
When the pizza here is done right, it is the best pizza you have ever had. Unfortunately, that is rarely the case. I love the concept of the chicken ranchero pizza: garlic ranch sauce, chicken, caramelized onions, fresh garlic and mozzarella. Sounds great right? Not when there is so much sauce that all the toppings slide off when the delivery guy tips the box over. Or when the pizza has so much grease that it has completely soaked through the box. And this is assuming they get your order right in the first place. You may have ordered the chicken ranchero, but god knows what you're actually going to get (or not get for that matter).
Review Source:This is the worst food and treatment I had in a long while. Asking for extra sauce for my wife's brutal pizza sub was like pulling teeth. The pizza sub had like 3 peperonni slices and 3 salami slices like they counted and placed them there. $6.95 for a pizza sub that was lacking in sauce, was basically garlid bread. DO NOT EAT HERE!
Review Source:I was really excited to try Zorba's. I recently moved nearby and was looking forward to finding a good pizza place in my neighborhood. Â However I am STILL trying to find a good pizza place in my neighborhood as Zorba's is definitely not it. Â
My roommate likes it so I figured it wouldn't be too bad. Â One night we went in to pick up a pizza and I couldn't wait to get home and start eating it! Â I took my first bite...yuck. Â I barely finished one slice and I had enough. Â It was soggy and floppy and rubbery and almost tasted...buttery. Â I dont know if that is the proper way to describe it. Â It was disgusting. Â I would have prefered to go to Costco and get a slice of pizza or even a whole pizza there. Â The only decent thing I had was the garlic bread. Â
The one positive thing I can say is that it looks like a cute date place. Â I like the color of the walls and the mirrors on the wall and the general setup. Â It makes it look a little more upscale than most takeout pizza places.
I spent one day in the bay area, enough time to visit my parents in San Bruno, and this place is a couple streets away.
The pizzeria's exterior is old school, not fancy or updated, on a quiet, one-way street where I would figure they wouldn't have many customers. Upon walking in, my assumptions were confirmed. There was one lady sitting by the window, eating what looked like a scrumptious dish of lasagna, engrossed in reading a book.
I ordered an individual pizza and salad combo for under 7 bucks, sat at the other table by the window, and enjoyed my meal. The pizza was larger than expected and perfectly cooked, the crust thin and crisp, but not too crunchy, and with just the right amount of cheese.
The salad? Well, it was just a salad, but when you get a pizza, salad, and drink for under 7 bucks, what is there to complain about? The owner/pizza dudes were quiet, but accomodating, something you would expect from a place like this. I enjoyed my quick lunch and was on my way.
They have some delicious-sounding dinner specials listed on their chalkboard by the front door, and if I lived in the area, Zorba's would probably be a frequent stop.
This place is actually pretty good. Â It's sort of hidden on some no-name street, and the exterior of the place is very forgettable, but somehow I found my way to this pizza place during my lunch break and had some good pizza. Â The crust isn't too thick or too thin, sauce isn't too tart, and the cheese has a good amount of saltiness. Â The pizza overall was exactly what I wanted, and I'd come back again.
Review Source:Zorbas Pizza is like crack. Â I grew up on this, and so of course it's one of those childhood association things.
Zorbas meant friday and happiness and yumminess.
But seriously, my one thing about pizza is I hate when there is too little cheese and way too much crust.
Zorbas' cheese:crust ratio is perfect, I must say. Â Lots of cheesy goodness, tasty sauce and crust that's thin under the toppings, but nice and thick in the part you grab.
I'm not sure I'm talking about pizza anymore, but Zorba's is great.
In the days when I used to eat meat, the #1 combo was great ... but now I'm a mushroom and feta lady. Â Delicious.
I've never actually had Zorbas delivered, I always call in, and usually it's only a 20-25 minute wait. Â That's the way to do it.
I'm actually surprised that this didn't receive a higher rating; their pizza is pretty darn good. Greasy, but what good pizza isn't? I've tried their Soprano (salami, pepperoni, fresh tomatoes, onions, Italian sausage, fresh garlic, and mozzarella), Veggie (tomatoes, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, olives, fresh garlic and mozzarella), and Chicken Pesto (chicken, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, fresh garlic, parmesan and mozzarella)... and as stated, all pretty darn good.
Minus a couple stars for longer than stated delivery times and non-competitive prices (larges for the above pizzas are ~$25).
Tonight was my 3rd time going there in 2 months....
This is a strange place. They have tables in there set up with place settings but no where do they tell to order at the counter.
The First Visit:
During the daytime, ordered a med. Soprano pizza and root beers and the pizza was PERFECTION! Nice crispy on the outside crust and soft and yummy inside! We loved it. Very nice service.
The Second Visit:
During the day again, we ordered the Soprano again, and it was just okay because they didn't cook it enough. The cheese was just melted but that was it. We felt that it could of been cooked for about 3 or 4 minutes more, no big deal....
The Third Visit:
We went again, and asked them to just cook it a little more, so it was cruchy and we also ordered salads, wine and roo tbeer. Unfortunately, the pizza was cooked even less than before.
Too bad, because the first visit was so great. But I guess that is why I can only give two stars.
If you do want to try their pizza, go for it, but just make sure you ask them to cook it so it is CRUNCY.
Meh....
Not too bad, but the shitty service really knocks them down. Â I wanted to order a pizza to pick up, but didn't have their menu or the internet in front of me to order from, so I asked the oh-so-happy-joyful (sarcasm) lady (questionable) on the phone if she could let me know what types of pizza they have in thin crust.
"There's over 16 kinds."
That's the answer I got - "Um, can you elaborate?"
"It's too many to go over."
WTF!? Â Do you not want me to order a pizza? Â FINE...I'm hungry and want pizza so I just ordered by the seat of my pants(not sure what that means, but it sounds good here).
"Can I please have a thin crust with half combination and half pesto and cheese?"
"Let me see if we can do that..."
WTF?!
Anyhoo, to make a long complaint short - went in to pick up the pizza, the place is DEAD. Â Three people behind the counter with nothing to do, and I had to ask for help.
My pizza was cold and wasn't even thin crust. Â Not to mention the oh-so-happy phone lady was even more happy (sarcasm) in person. Â Yeah lady, you need to take a laxative or something - jeeeez!
I want to try them again, but if that constipated biotch answers the phone, I'm going to Round Table!
Zorbas, zoorbas , zaabas
Had their pizza there, I wasn't impressed,
The dough is too sweet, Â and their sauce flavorless.
I asked for crumbled feta cheese as an extra toping to my cheese pizza.what I got was generous sprinkle of flavorless feta cheese that was gratedso fine, that it looked like parmesan cheese.
Never again .
Within a five mile radius of my place, there are three pizza places to choose from. I usually choose Zorba's. Nice thick crust with just the right amount of crunch. Their pizza's are always piping hot and fresh. The size of their pizza's are huge..Minus one star because delivery is pretty slow.
If I want to treat myself to some fat induced meal, I'll order the all meat pizza... Nothing comforts me more than a pizza topped with sausage, pepperoni, salami, ground beef and oozing mozzarella cheese .
