Old School all the way! Â I stopped in here to wait for a friend who was flying into SFO (this is only about a mile away from the airport) and I was welcomed like I was a regular!
The bar has been here since the 40's and that is just part of it's charm. Â Leo, the bartender, was great! Â He took excellent care of me during my visit, telling me about the area I was in (South San Fran) and a little of the history of the place. Â And the people who shared the bar with me were funny and engaging!
Know before you go that it is CASH ONLY and that they close EARLY (10pm on the Friday night when I was here) Â But there are plenty of TV's to catch your favorite game on and their collection of alcohol is vast so they will be able to pour whatever you are drinking!
The drinks are cheap ($5 for a mixed drink) and during the lunch hours the owner springs for some free eats for the patrons (nothing fancy- think pizza). Â And parking is easy either on the street or there is a municipal pay lot right next door.
The next time you have time to kill waiting for a flight to come in at SFO- skip the cell phone lot. Â Topper is just as convenient and a heck of a lot more fun!
Mellow place to come to after dinner on a weekday. Cool bartender! I ordered a gin and tonic and he just came outta nowhere and started pouring me a bit more gin in my cup. Why thank you! Then he got me another drink on the house to end the night. And the SF Giants WIN!!!! Although they closed at 10 and cash only, it was enjoyable.
