..Tequila Bar

So CANS is 2 for 3 with me right now. The first 2 times the food was off the chain. Anything with pork was amazing....with my favorite being the pork tacos. They were so good that I couldn't stop thinking about it and we went back a 2nd and 3rd time.

The 3rd time through they struck out, but I hoping it was just an "off" day. The pork (and my fiance's chicken) was dried out and overcooked. The chips and salsa were good as usual but we left really disappointed because we love this place.

i figured if this restaurant had outlived the others that have tried to succeed in this tiny space at the corner of broadwell and mayfield -- little azio, erwoods, etc -- then it might be pretty good. i should always remind myself never to set my expectations upward.

ATMOSPHERE: greeted promptly by a teenage hostess diddling around on her phone. seated nearly dead center in the middle of the restaurant at a two-seater with traffic patterns to the kitchen and bar akin to that of an airport.

CUISINE: i ordered a crispy burrito. it sounded interesting. what can i say? it turns out a crispy burrito is not as i had imagined... like a burrito in a panini press or something. instead, it's a chimichanga. FOILED! oh well. it was decent. i had it with pork. the pork was the best part. the "burrito" itself had an inordinate amount of cheese. i think the best part of the meal though was the rice. crazy good -- with heat.

i usually order some kind of a la carte taco thing. unfortunately, there is no a la carte option on this pretentiously upscale mexican food menu.

PRICE: average. plates are around ~$10 (as in over). the one ridiculous item on the bill was $1 for chips and salsa. i guess that would have been alright if the chips and salsa was actually something to brag about.

SERVICE: decent. nothing better than average, but i didn't have any complaints.

IMPRESSION: won't go back. too far to drive to get to and above what i usually pay for better mexican food right near where i live. i also get free chips and salsa there. oh well. i had to try it at least once.

Went for my 3rd trip in a couple of years this past Sunday.  Haven't been crazy but this will be our last trip.  Floors were sticky, place smelled like bar floor or someone didn't clean it...and despite not being busy there were huge tables of dirty dishes that were piled up.  After be seated we had to bail - just didn't feel like the restaurant was clean enough to be eating from.  Better attention to details and the customer experience would do them well as there are too many other good options.
