So CANS is 2 for 3 with me right now. The first 2 times the food was off the chain. Anything with pork was amazing....with my favorite being the pork tacos. They were so good that I couldn't stop thinking about it and we went back a 2nd and 3rd time.

The 3rd time through they struck out, but I hoping it was just an "off" day. The pork (and my fiance's chicken) was dried out and overcooked. The chips and salsa were good as usual but we left really disappointed because we love this place.

i figured if this restaurant had outlived the others that have tried to succeed in this tiny space at the corner of broadwell and mayfield -- little azio, erwoods, etc -- then it might be pretty good. i should always remind myself never to set my expectations upward.

ATMOSPHERE: greeted promptly by a teenage hostess diddling around on her phone. seated nearly dead center in the middle of the restaurant at a two-seater with traffic patterns to the kitchen and bar akin to that of an airport.

CUISINE: i ordered a crispy burrito. it sounded interesting. what can i say? it turns out a crispy burrito is not as i had imagined... like a burrito in a panini press or something. instead, it's a chimichanga. FOILED! oh well. it was decent. i had it with pork. the pork was the best part. the "burrito" itself had an inordinate amount of cheese. i think the best part of the meal though was the rice. crazy good -- with heat.

i usually order some kind of a la carte taco thing. unfortunately, there is no a la carte option on this pretentiously upscale mexican food menu.

PRICE: average. plates are around ~$10 (as in over). the one ridiculous item on the bill was $1 for chips and salsa. i guess that would have been alright if the chips and salsa was actually something to brag about.

SERVICE: decent. nothing better than average, but i didn't have any complaints.

IMPRESSION: won't go back. too far to drive to get to and above what i usually pay for better mexican food right near where i live. i also get free chips and salsa there. oh well. i had to try it at least once.

Went for my 3rd trip in a couple of years this past Sunday.  Haven't been crazy but this will be our last trip.  Floors were sticky, place smelled like bar floor or someone didn't clean it...and despite not being busy there were huge tables of dirty dishes that were piled up.  After be seated we had to bail - just didn't feel like the restaurant was clean enough to be eating from.  Better attention to details and the customer experience would do them well as there are too many other good options.

Me and my family decided to try CANS out after church on a Sunday evening. We sat outside in the air conditioned patio which was a little chilly but not too bad. We had the queso fundido and the guacamole which were both very good. The chips and salsa were great as well. For dinner we had carne Asada tacos which were good but could go with out the peppers and onions. The meat was very tender and seasoned well. The pacnuchos were good but a little heavy. All in all the food was great and we will be back to try their dessert which they were out of ( paletas).

This is where I go for take out ceviche when I'm up in milton land working at a friend's studio. With the ceviche, you get a red snapper? (pretty sure) ceviche with plantain chips. This is a no BS, 90% fish ceviche that has a wonderful flavor. I usually add an order of guacamole, because theirs is one of the few around where the avocados are fresh, nice and chunky (not pureed) and it's not loaded with filler ingredients (95% avocado, woot!) The smoky salsa is nice with the chips or on the ceviche.

*I keep a bottle of (extra spicy) valentina sauce at the office for my ceviche because I've always liked the two together.

I was looking up new Mexican places to go and stumbled onto this one literally right up the road from us. Its a tequila bar, and its amazing!!
3 of us went. 2 got amazing margaritas, i was the lame one and got incredible sangria :). Their chips and salsa were outstanding, the cheese dip is absolutely delicious!
I don't recall the names of what we got, but one of us got these fried cake type things that you can get steak chicken or pork in, you pick up to 2 meats, and they are either breaded and fried or baked. (my hubby ordered them and i was lucky to get a bit of one of them they were so good)
I got a chimichanga type delicious deep fried chicken & cheese smothered burrito, that my hubby was lucky to get a bite of ;)
and the last one of us got the chicken tacos.  I think this was the only thing there were complaints about., they just felt like they were lacking, they were a little on the dry side, and maybe we are just spoiled with the tacos at cheekys, but overall a place we will def go back to. they have live music and really really good prices on booze! and good service!

I dined at Cans on Sunday afternoon with my girlfriend and some of her family.  We had 8 people total.  They weren't very crowded when were there.

The Service:  Good, but not great.  It was a little slow considering they weren't too crowded and there were often several servers standing around talking.  But, it was a relaxed atmosphere and we were having good conversation, so it wasn't a big deal (I guess the 'Yelper' in me just takes note of these things).

The Food:  Liked it a lot.  Not my all-time-favorite taqueria or Mexican fare, but was tasty.  The odd thing is that the menu did not list individual tacos (a la carte) OR have a combo plate that you could taste a few of their options (which, for me, is a MUST of any taqueria...I may not want 3 of the same kind, especially if I've never been there before).  Perhaps I could have ordered them anyway, but why not put it on the menu?!?   However, they do have an appetizer of 6 mini tacos, which is a sampling of 6 different types.  That's what I went with for an entree.  While I enjoyed them, some were much better than others.  The fish, steak and pork tacos were the best.  The chicken, veggie and beef were a little lacking to me.

We also tried their guacamole with our chips and it was really good (and I can't say I'm a 'guac' fan...I just normally think it's 'ok').  This one, however, was very good.

So, yes, I'll go back.  It was a good atmosphere and great food.  Just needs a few tweaks to be a great place.

Wow, I get to write my first negative review. I ate there today with a friend at the bar. The bartender ignored us, thought my order was "loco" and it took forever to get a box for leftovers, had to ask 2 different people to get ignored both times. Yeah, its Sunday, its chill, but I didn't like the vibe of this place or the staff. Food was okay. Won't be back for sure. Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. I was a server at one point in my life and I kicked ass. I expect the same. Too many options to spend my money here.

My girlfriend is in love with this place always claiming that its her "spot". After short coaxing she convinced me to try it out and I have to say that I am quite impressed with Can's. Its located in a nice complex which isnt busy and is slightly tucked away. First off the chips and salsa are great! The chips are always fresh and salted a little on the heavier side but it allows for you to really taste the freshness of the homemade salsa that they make. I always order the Taquitos as its a sampler of 6 small tacos beef, chicken, steak, veggie, fish, and pork and am always satisfied. The matador margaritas are quite good even though they can quickly add up as the last time I dined in with my girlfriend our tab was $80. But being how the quality of the food is great and on par with some of the better taqueria's of atlanta and close proximity to my girlfriends house I can say to that this is now my "spot".

Cans is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area. It's not cheap eats by any means but it's worth the premium. Everything is very tasty here but what I really crave are their Panuchos with pork. Basically fried masa filled with goodness. Amazing. Their margaritas are excellent too. I never had a problem with bringing kids, but we tend to go on the early side (6-ish). Later at night it may be touch and go, but they DO have a kids menu. Check em out.

CANS is one of my favorite. Good drinks, good service and excellent (Fri-Sun) daily specials. The Pinapple Agave Tequila is awesome and the skinny margaritas are terrific too. Every time I come here I try the special and have never been disappointed and the friends that have come for the first time love it as well.
You'll learn when not to go because of the kids running around but don't let the other reviews scare you because it is fabulous!

I'm a transplant from Miami Florida and dropped in to give this place a shot. Awesome interior and free flowing breeze runs through the dining room. Tastefully decorated and the service was well above standard. The server who helped me swore that the Cuban sandwich was "The best he's ever had!" Little did he know he could not have picked a better judge. I had nothing to lose so I ordered it. Out came the huge Pile of pork, ham and cheese pressed into toasty bread with a massive side of sweet potato fries. I told myself there is NO WAY I'm going to eat all of this. Well I did the fries too! It was by far the best Cuban I have had ever! The staff was very attentive, the restaurant as a whole is very charming and a nice addition to the Burbs of Atlanta. No question I will be back for that sandwich again.

Service was a little slow, but the fish tacos and pomegranate mojitos were amazing! Would also highly recommend sitting on the deck, which is quite nice as it is on the side of the building and not facing traffic or a parking lot! A good find!

My husband and I went to CANS last Saturday and I thought the food was good.  But I will never go back there again because of the bad experience.  Here is what happened......I was looking for the bathroom and I went to a wrong side and ended up to be near the kitchen.  I don't know what was on the floor but it was slippery and I slipped and fell down.  I didn't want to hit my head so I put my hand on the floor first and hurt my shoulder.  The waiter and several customers found me on the floor and the waiter asked if I was okay so I told him "I should be".  Well I thought that it will get better so I tried not to make a big deal out of it.  Monday came around, my shoulder was still hurting and it was hard to lift something as light as a hair dryer.  So, I decided to call CANS to speak to the manager to see if they will just cover my medical cost.  The manager named "Norma" said they will have to review the video and speak to the waiter before they can say or do something.  Wednesday came but no calls.....so I called back but Norma could/would not talk to me.  Norma finally called me back today, and said "we watched the video and there was nothing on the floor and nobody pushed you so therefore we can't be responsible".  I do have a medical insurance and all I was going to ask for is for the co-pay portion to be paid but they can't even do that.  It only hurts when I move so rather than going to an urgent care of emergency room, I'm going to see an orthopedic tomorrow and have to pay out of my pocket:(

I have gone to CANS 3 times now. I am not a fan of their food but LOVE their drinks. They have a margarita sampler of their most popular margaritas - they rope you in with the sampler.

Its fun to go during the warmer months and sit on the patio. They usually have music playing loud enough and they keep the drinks flowing so you can have a good time.

Overall, nice summer hangout spot just don't go hungry :-)

Man, I've been to CANS several times, but this will probably be the last. The food is great (The puerco tacos, the panuchos, and the fish tacos are especially delicious. The smoky chipotle salsa is to die for.) The Mexican margarita and the mojito made with silver tequila instead of rum are mixed perfectly. The restaurant itself is well laid out with a huge patio that's open to the dining room.

So, what's the problem? Why will we most likely not go back? I'm seconding a portion of Candice M's review: THE TODDLERS! Or more specifically the soccer-parents-of-the-future who ignore their precious little spawn as they run all over the restaurant.

We saw three instances of servers carrying trays of hot plates of food having to dodge the children as they ran around tables while the parents blissfully carried on their conversations unaware. Yes, your children are precious and the cutest things I've ever seen; however, don't be a douche and let them endanger the welfare of the servers, other patrons, and most importantly, themselves.

I hold the parents accountable for the behavior of their children, but I think the management should also be responsible for ensuring the safety of their diners and employees. Step up and say something, managers.

A Pure Taqueria wannabe but a decent fall-back-up option that's usually less crowded.  Food is good and drinks are reasonably priced.  Really like the outdoor seating area.

The staff is very friendly, the drinks are nice and stiff and the decor is unique and fits the place wonderfully.  LIke most places in this area I feel it is a bit pricey for what you get and my one complaint with any Mexican establishment is don't try for upscale and charge 14 for a taco plate.  Nail the basics for a fair price and be creative with your margaritas.  The outdoor patio is great just watch out for the kid factor, the eat free some nights and the place can resemble a Chuckie Cheese.

Meh! That is how I sum up this place. The food is lacking in flavor. I have been to this place three times so I have given it a fair chance. I always try to give places three strikes and then they get marked off my list. This place will stay on the list for drinks on the patios with the girls. The margaritas are good and a few of their dips are decent but when you get to dinner it starts to decline.

Also, this place is crawling with kids. Kids are ok but the kids that are takento Cans are a breed of spoiled brat. The patents are there to drink and socialize and they do just that while their children run from table to table causing utter chaos. I don't think kids are allowed on the patio (not 100% sure). They do have a "kids eat free night" so make sure you don't go that night. I probably sound like a person who really hates kids but I don't at all. I have just had a really bad experience when it comes to children at this restaurant and, well, I would like to know about this if I wanted a night in the burbs with no kids.

Overall, the drinks and apps are good and it's a good spot for socializing.

Very nice area and the building and outdoor seating was very nice and inviting.  The chips and salsa were good and the salsa had a nice spice to it.  I got a banana margarita but could not tell that it was banana at all.  I was disappointed in that.  I asked the waitress for recommendations and she raved about the fish tacos.  She even said many people come here just for our fish tacos.  So, I thought I would give them a try.  I was not very impressed with them.  The fish seemed dry.  The toppings and the tortilla was good but I would not say these were great.  If I were to ever go back, I would try something else but I do not know that I will be going back again.

Went to CANS with a group of 6 people last night and was not impressed.  We wanted something other than tequila to drink from the bar but they had no vodka and no rum (yet it is supposed to be a full service bar).  The bartender has a terrible attitude and the service from him was simply awful.  Once we sat for dinner, our food was served luke warm.  In addition, the carne asada tacos had very little meat.  We have been to this restaurant two other times and it seems like it is really starting to go downhill.

There is a lot of energy here on a Friday evening. Forty minute wait , well spent, drinking margaritas at the bar.  I liked the interiors- fun stuff but minimal.

There was something about the salsa that we weren't crazy about.  But we munched on it anyhow.  Why-  because it was there!

I had  Carnitas.  (Gotta stop listening to recommendations from the AJC).  The pork shoulder was a tad dry and stringy but the onions and cheese worked well with  it.

Annie had the Crispy Burrito with Skirt Steak.   Much better than the Carnitas damnit.

Here is the bad but amusing part. Read no further if you are sensitive! Kids 9 and under eat free so there are a bunch of em there.  We were seated with a view to the patio where a little boy with beautiful red hair turned his back to his family (face to us) and started picking his nose with reckless abandon!  Unspeakable acts followed!

I feel like this place reaches high but doesn't quite get there yet. But it was a good meal and a beautiful evening and we followed up with Irish music at the Dog across the street.

Absolutely the best "ceviche" I've ever had (made with shrimp instead of whitefish) - absolutely perfect. A search through 20 different restaurants in Mexicantown, Detroit has not turned up anything quite as fresh, vibrant, and intoxicatingly delicious. The shrimp was glistening, packed with flavor, and chopped in a way that really emphasized the texture and quality of the shrimp meat. Most ceviche is too finely diced and overpowered by onion, but CANS's version was coated in lime juice, cilantro, and a few other ingredients to create a perfectly light dressing, all served on a warm tostada. Nothing compares.

The other nice thing about CANS is the tequila bar. I'm actually surprised this place advertises itself as a taqueria instead of a tequileria... their collection is astounding with a great range in ages (and, so, prices)... there's something to try for everyone from the first-timer to the tequila connoisseur. They also make on-site a pineapple-tequila infusion, and also serve agave margaritas!

The live music was ok. Kind of catering in a cheesy way to the crowd (acoustic guitar versions of Michael Jackson? no thank you) , and seemed out of place . But that was probably my only complaint.

In contrast to that one reviewer below, our service was impeccable. Señor Brian kept our table of 7 in full and attentive rotation. Water refills, drink refills, chip refills - pronto.

Can't wait until I'm visiting North Atlanta again to get more of that ceviche.

You can't spell ILOVECANS without CANS.

So delicious! Guacamole? Yes. Lettuce tacos? Yes. Skinny margarita? Three please. I'll be returning. Frequently. Or at least as frequently as my bank/liver allow me to. Gah. Those two spar way too often.

Attention young men! Warning: travel in groups. Beware of cougars. This is definitely a place for the older hip crowd.

I've been to CANS twice and both times were great!  The first time was for a girls night and we each had their margarita sampler and quesadillas and both were awesome!  We sat on the patio and the owner greeted us with three free shots of tequila.  I think he thought it was one of our birthdays...we didn't correct him :)
The second time I went here was for my birthday and we had a party of about 16 people.  They were able to accommodate us by providing a large table in the back.  But we were still right next to the bar and the open dance floor they provide around 9pm.  I didn't hear one complaint about anyone's food, well except that maybe the portions could have been larger.  The chips and salsa and margaritas were great...which is essential considering it's a Taqueria.
So, the atmosphere, food and staff were all great!  Can't wait to go back :)

I pass through Crabapple everyday, so I finally stopped in for lunch at CANS Taqueria. Personally, since CANS is in all caps, I think the name is an acronym, maybe an ancient Mexican secret.

Anyhoo, the dining room is spacious and open with a large bar across the wall on the right. Fresh squeezed lemonade filled two huge glass dispensers on each end of the bar.

We were seated on the patio that had been tented for the winter months. I was surprised at the tent quality, in that I didn't feel like I was on a patio, but rather on a glassed-in porch.

The chips and salsa were average, with the chips coming in some sort of fancy looking cone shaped wire container. Seriously, what's with this trend of putting corn chips in fancy serving containers? A basket is fine. Okay, go for a "nice" basket if you're trying to be upscale. But remember. It's corn chips.

I ordered the chicken quesadilla, and honestly, I think it was the best chicken quesadilla I've had in many a year. There was something about the seasoning and textures that just worked really, really well. Equally, I thought that the rice and beans were about the best I'd had. They were much more flavorful than I've had at other establishments.

I did have a frozen margarita with this lunch, and I do have to say that Pure's margaritas have them beat on that one. But the drink was still tasty and mixed well.

CANS, what does that even mean? Really? I don't get it. Luckily  the food and drinks were good enough to make me forget about the name. The atmosphere is very cool, open and unique. A large wooden bar runs along the back wall with top shelf tequilas galore. A premixed fruit and tequila concoction in a large glass keg-like fixture sits at the end of the bar drawing your curiosity in until you tell them "I have to try what ever is in there".

The food was good, consistent, flavorful and filling. The party I went with had a few questions about the portion sizes, but I was satisfied.

On random Saturday nights they will fire up the DJ and release the cougars by the dozens. Mix this with some shots of Reserva de la Familia and you're in for a good time.

Overall I like the place, and we'll go back. It's by far the most unique restaurant in the Milton area.

CANS? What's up with this name? I sometimes associate "the can" with Mexican food, in a not so good way. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the name. My lunch partner Adam R was thinking more along the lines of "nice cans", a la something out of urban dictionary. Don't get any ideas though, this isn't Hooters.

What you will find at CANS is some damn good Mexican grub. I tried the carnitas, a braised pork shoulder that is served pulled. It wasn't quite as tender as I would have liked, but they made up for it in the flavor department. The pork was juicy and delicious. And for a lunch menu item, I thought the portion size was very generous.

The chips and salsa were ho hum. Tasted like chips from a bag with halfway decent salsa.

It is hard not to compare this place to Pure Taqueria. I thought the food here was a tad below what I had at Pure. The restaurant is far more comfortable and less crowded at lunch. But of course it is much more out of the way. Crabapple isn't exactly in cubicle land. Perhaps the dinner and weekend crowds are more substantial. This place was practically dead at lunch last week. Seemed cavernous in there.

Thanks to Gretchen for putting together this Yelp lunch. CANS is a delicious joint that I'd certainly go back to if in the area.

**edited to say that Barquera is no longer with CANS, so withdrawing my support :O

checked them out on opening night - was kinda a madhouse but the margaritas made the wait bearable.  i worked in the past with the chef (Nacho Barquera) and know his attention to detail and love of fresh ingredients will really shine in his native cuisine.  i can't wait to come back once they have gotten in the swing of things and try his cool creations like the green rice!
