The 1020 Bistro

We didn't get a chance to eat here, even though we were hungry. The hostess seating us was so rude (she threw the menu at us while she was yelling at the wait staff that they had another table), we left immediately. Tables weren't bussed even though most of the patrons were gone.

The 1020 Bistro is the breakfast and lunch restaurant located inside, and operated by the Hilton Fort Wayne at The Grand Wayne Convention Center. (Cut'z is the corresponding dinner restaurant.) The 1020 is quite mediocre, almost bad, and rather overpriced. I can't recommend the 1020 Bistro for either breakfast or lunch.

I ate lunch at The 1020 as part of a party of four. Our lunch orders included soup, a quesadilla type appetizer, hamburgers and drinks (soft drinks and ice tea). All of these items were poor or mediocre quality.

Service: The assistant manager served our table during the lunch rush. We had long waits for our meals, for specific requests such as "more bread, please", and for our checks to be both delivered and then for the payments to be run through the charge card machine. Either the restaurant is understaffed or the staff is not fully trained. The 1020 could not handle the lunch crowd when we were there.

Two of my companions had eaten lunch at 1020 the previous afternoon. Their service complaint from that previous experience was that their (bottomless, refillable) drinks were not refilled, even after they asked their server for a refill. The manager later gave them large to-go drinks on their way out. I am relating this second-hand. I, myself, was not there. However, my guess is that the server was either too busy (restaurant was understaffed) or too stressed (server undertrained or inexperienced) rather than inherently a poor performer without a service orientation.

Price: The food was pretty expensive considering its mediocre quality and the mediocre service.

The 1020 might be a reasonable lunch alternative on a Sunday, when most of the downtown spots are closed. I can't recommend it otherwise.
