20 Brix

My wife and I ate at 20 Brix on Saturday night. We thought the food was extremely creative and our service was excellent. It is a cute restaurant in Milford. It was nice not to have to go downtown and pay for parking.  

We shared the shrimp and grits and the fried chicken. They were both very good. The Fried Chicken was sitting atop a bed of greens using a waffle as the base. We split the Brussels Sprouts side  We enjoyed our meals.

I do think the food was a little pricey for what you got, but it was competitive relative to other restaurants of similar quality.

They do have a good selection of wines to choose from. I will say one thing that I found very odd was when I ordered a Summit Lake Late Harvest Zinfandel dessert wine, the 2 oz pour was 12.25 and the 1 oz pour was $6. I was going to order 2 1 oz glasses to make a point but I didn't. I know dessert wine is expensive, but I thought the $12.25 was a real stretch. My wife and I have been to Summit Lake several times, so I decided to splurge. I enjoyed the wine, but did not care for the price.

Excellent spot for a date, or a special occasion.  Top notch service and wine selection.  The beer selection was solid, albeit not as robust as I would have liked it.  We went for a birthday, and so we had a wide variety of dishes to share.  Now, the waiter recommended the seasonal dishes, and we did not take him up on the offer, we stuck to the flatbreads, and appetizers, and while everything was good, nothing blew me away.  Flatbreads, pozole, and chicken and waffles, it's really just fancy comfort food.  5 star experience, 3 star food, 4 star booze,  divide by 3 and BAM, I'm a fan.

My parents recently moved to Cincinnati so my father relied on my suggestion for a family dinner to celebrate my mom's birthday. I had heard great things about 20 Brix so I thought it would be a great time to check it out. And I'll have to admit, I was a little disappointed.

For starters, the restaurant is also paired with a wine shop and they claim the largest wine selection of any Cincinnati restaurant. I did like that they offered 2 different-sized pours - 2 oz and 5 oz - but was surprised by the steep price, especially for the 2 oz pours (why spend $6 on 2 oz when I can get a full glass of good wine at that price elsewhere!) We elected to get a bottle since we knew we all wanted wine. While the bottle prices are steep as well, they're not outrageous and we were able to find a decent wine. Unfortunately when the bottle was brought to us the wine was a bit too warm for my taste, which surprised me since typically red wine is served a little bit cooler than room temperature.

On to the food, which was admittedly delicious. Our server started us with bread and butter, and I was immediately impressed that the butter was flavored with lime and ginger - a great touch! We ordered a cheese plate as an appetizer which left me unimpressed. I've tried many cheese plates around the city and this definitely wasn't one of the my favorites.

Three of the four of us at dinner ordered a pizza as our dinner since that is what sounded the best. And once again none of us were overly impressed with the meal. Overall the food was good, just not as good as the price may suggest. And while I wouldn't be opposed to returning, I'm definitely not dying to go back.
