Great Food! Good Prices! Just wish that they would have air conditioning in the summer! They also offer wifi too! So glad that they updated their chairs and tables from that awful plastic look. My only sad thing with their menu is that they don't offer any selection of steak from breakfast to dinner, and when I'm in the need of their sides I have to go elsewhere for the steak :( Overall a great place and BLACK OWNED!
Review Source:really good food. Everything cooked to order with a very small staff.. so sometimes service can be slooooow. But once the food comews out, it's worth it. Service gets three stars (everyone is very nice, but feel like they could use a little management course in efficiency..)m, food gets 5, so overall 4 starts. I haven't been in a while, so need to get back soon! want to make sure they stay in business!
Review Source:Family road trip passing past Chicago; we needed lunch; searched on Yelp and 5 Loaves came up. So we drove in and gave it a try and are glad we did. The food was awesome! Here's what we had:
- Buffalo chicken salad
- Chicken salad sandwich
- Catfish po boy
- Fried chicken fingers
Everything was delicious and servings huge! Somehow, we were able to finish it all off though. Very nice server. Fed the four of us for $35.
Highly recommended.
I love old school eateries and this definitely is one of them. From the tables and chairs to the wonderful warmth of the service!!! Joyce is so awesome and cares about the people she serves and the job. The coffee is always on point and the food OMG its so much but so good. Salmon Croquettes are awesome and the bake potato soup to die for!!! This place is definitely a hidden gem!!!! I cant wait to return for Sunday Dinner!!!!!
Review Source:One thing I have to say about this place is bad customer service. I am not sure if the guy working the register was an owner, but he didn't acknowledge me when I walked and continued to write a receipt. No matter if the food is good the service is not worth me spending a dollar there ever again. The.cry out of support black businesses is always made, but when you don't respect your customer you are doomed to fail. This is not the first time I have had an unpleasant experience at 5 loaves. On another occasion I order three hamburgers and instead of letting me know they were out of buns, the owner (whom I might add is very ignorant and unprofessional) went to make a grocery store run for buns. I was not told before my order and if that was the case I may have ordered something else. After today's experience they will not receive another dollar or nor will I recommend anyone to patronize this restaurant.
Review Source:I was on a little business run through the south side and needed a place to eat that wasn't necessarily fast food. Someone suggested eating at the 5 Loaves Eatery because everything on their menu was delicious. We had to order out and the lady taking our order was so nice and recommended things to us on the menu. I ordered the best omelet ever and this sweet mixed tea drink she made for us was so good. If I'm ever back down on the south side, I'm coming back here!
Review Source:Very nice! Â The $4.29 breakfast special offers quite a range of choices. Â I had the home-made turkey patties, 2 eggs sunny side up, rice and biscuits. Â The OJ I had was either fresh-squeezed or close to it. Â Everything was tasty and homey. Â
Why one star off? Â Cuz my girl's food came out a little cold.
My friend and I somewhat randomly ended up at 5 Loaves last night an hour or so before they closed. We were deciding between 5 Loaves and the place across the street, Army & Lou's, so the woman let me check out the menu. I saw enough of what I wanted and decided to stay, and what a wonderful choice it was! The woman serving us was incredibly pleasant and helpful, explaining portion sizes, attentively refilling our KICKASS sweet tea.
My friend and I took a while to decide what to get since we were thwarted between choosing just one entree and getting a bunch of appetizers. Despite it being more than enough food (the woman assured us), we decided on the Turkey Burger Bites (delicious), Chicken Quesadillas (filled with the most tender, juiciest pieces of chicken ever! So good), the Country Fried Wings (mi amiga said they were awesome), and the Teriyaki Turkey Burger (also delicious and only $5!). I was almost overwhelmed with how good everything was, bites were often followed by, "This place is the BOMB!" I was so sad I discovered it just 5 days before moving to NYC (wah wah).
Unfortunately, I got so filled up on sweet tea, I didn't have much room to finish anything, so I walked out of the door, more than satisfied, with an overfilled take-home box in hand. I'm so geeked about this place, I'm telling everyone.
Thus, CONCLUSION: Everyone must go here! It's freaking awesome. The prices are great, the food is great, and the service was great. Win win win.
I have been a fan since I first saw the restaurant on "Check Please" and I really love the customer service they do. It is perfect. A smile and gracious spirit goes a long way. The food is great American fare and southern cuisine. I'm in love with the Chicken Salad sandwich on the soft bread that is simply perfect. Get that with a fresh salad. Whether you sit in the restaurant and get served or get it to go, it is worth the wait and it is worth the money spent. The only thing I hate is that the recession has impacted them being open as normal as in the past. I also wish they could have other locations open closer like in the South Suburbs but I will and have traveled to Grand crossing to get my sandwich because it is worth it!
Review Source:My first experience with 5 Loaves on 75th was wonderful, and given thatthey were understaffed and undersupplied, and it was Christmas Eve, that is saying something. Normally, I'm irritated when a restauratn isn't prepared, but as our waitress explained, they hadn't planned on opening for the day. It was a last minute decision. I'm impressed that they made it work and my family and I left there, quite content and pleasantly full, for an exceptionally reasonable price. Entrees, extra sides, beverages, and desserts for four adults for $57 including 20% tip.
I also need to mention that despite the staffing shortage, the service was exceptional. The only suggestion I would make is that they keep an eye out for one of the neighboring spaces to become available, because as this place increases in popularity, they're going to need the additional space.
We're going back today for their all you can eat Soulful Weekends. Let's see if lightning strikes twice.
