    Agio
    Overall
    4 Stars

    Gold medal - Calamari
Silver medal - Mark West Pinot
    Bronze medal - Filet

Agio is the restaurant located in the Pooks Marriot.  This restaurant really surprised me. Although, not every item was good, all the items that I ordered were pretty darn delicious!

The calamari was the best that I've had.  It was crispy and the marinara sauce was full of flavors.

The Mark West Pinot was goooood. The waitress was nice enough to let us taste two different wines before we ordered a bottle. The Mark West tasted a bit fruity, oaky, and light.  It is a very good wine.

The filet was cooked perfect.  It was very tasty and soft.

PS-I do not recommend the bass.

    HAPPY HOTEL EATING!!

OK, I'll be blunt. I'm picky, and I am unimpressed with this hotel from the get-go (I will review it separately soon). I ordered a burger from room service tonight ($14.95) + 22% delivery and sales tax... total $24.20.

I ordered it MEDIUM and without a bun (I told them I'm a celiac and can't have wheat). She seemed to understand this.

The burger was NOT medium. It was RARE. (See photo). The fries had gluten on them, as I am now quite itchy.

    Not again.

We ate appetizers and dessert in the bar area.  We ordered shrimp in pancetta and the four cheese tomato bruschetta both were really good.  We also had vanilla ice cream and almond amaretto cake both were good. The amaretto cake seemed very commercial. The two glasses of wine were a bit pricey but good.  The seating is comfortable but the decor is a bit dated. There are incongruously tiny TV's in the room, which struck me as weird. The service was good.  I recommend it as a place for a light bite and a drink.

During a business trip in Bethesda I was staying at the Marriott with Agio inside.  Agio serves as the primary restaurant for the hotel complete with a bar and service for all meals.  It's a modern setting that fits in with the wood and red tones of the Marriott itself.  Agio boasts big, comfortable seating with medium sized tables.

I visited Agio twice during my stay and honestly, it was one of the more disappointing hotel restaurant experiences I've had in recent time:

    BREAKFAST
Breakfast allows you two options: order from a menu or buffet.  I chose to go with the buffet, which includes the usual fruits, cereals, baked goods and a combined waffle/omelet station.  The food itself was good, with my egg white and cheese omelet being the highlight.  The ingredients were all fresh including fresh mozzarella.

The problem was with the service.  I was seated quickly (near the hostess), but it took about ten minutes before my waitress appeared.  She literally saw me and walked by me four times before coming over to ask me if I wanted coffee or tea.  I had asked for water, but she didn't bring it so I had to ask again.  I fear what would have happened if I had not chose the buffet over ordering food.  Very disappointing service.

    CATERED DINNER
My company arranged for a dinner at Agio in an enclosed back room.  The service started well enough with offers of wine and drink.  We then sat for about a half hour before they started taking our orders off a Prix Fixe menu.  Once we ordered, we waited twenty five minutes before salads showed up as appetizers.  It then took another twenty five or so minutes before the entrees showed up.  In total I think I spent about a solid hour just waiting for food.

The food was good, but nothing extraordinary.  The salad was crisp and my fish entree was well cooked.

I wasn't impressed by Agio on either visit.  Most of their problem revolves around their service, not their food (which is average, something you'd expect from a hotel restaurant).
