Placed a pick up order last night. A large margarita pizza, a small pepperoni pizza and a spinach salad. The pizza was not hot when it got home so I can't judge if the crust was originally crisp or not. The crust is super thin, so is the cheese. The margarita one is so blend that I have to add my own seasoning on it. And the tomatoes are mushy. The pepperoni one taste okay. The spinach salad is a big disappointment. Way overloaded with dried cranberries and walnut, only 50% is spinach! That's so not the way to make a salad! Not crazy about the balsamic vinegar dressing either. With this kind of quality, they are certainly overpriced!
Review Source:Big fan of this place. Â I like thin crust pizza. Â This place has some great thin crust pizza 's and also great salads. Â The gorgonzola with walnut salad is incredible. Â If you are looking for good Chicago pizza, don't mess with deep dish (unless going to Burts Place), go to Apart.
Review Source:apart's web manager has apparently been hanging out with dan quayle... what i originally mistook for a typo was repeated at least twice on the menu. no one wants to eat a tomaTOE!
grammar-policing aside, apart's pizza is pretty tasty. i followed the masses and ordered the goat cheese & arugula and also a supreme. my only complaint was the crust was a bit dry (and i usually eat all the crusts).
it was great with the groupon but i don't think i'd have paid 20 bucks for each pizza. jimmy's pizza cafe has a similar style of pizza and theirs is so delicious you don't even need fancy toppings.
With about 2 shabby tables and a window bar top with tall stools, this is more of a take-out pizza place....but people were eating in when we stopped by. Â We walked in, placed an order for two 18' pizza's ($20 each), and went around the corner to grab a drink at the bar. Â About 20 minutes later pizza was ready for pick up.
Their specialty pizza choices were above average IMHO, with things like a ham, brie, and egg pizza! Â But we didn't go quite that unique. Â We ordered a Greca (feta cheese, pepper, fresh tomato, black olive, onion) and the Sumpreme (pepperoni, green pepper, onion & mushroom). Â I was a little disappointed that my Greek pizza was cheesed with more than just feta, there was more other traditional pizza cheese than feta cheese. Â The crust was unmemorable. Â
Overall it was pretty average pizza quality with a nice, local, neighborhood vibe.
Just ordered delivery from here for the first time. Â This pizza is lousy. Â I think the "Apart" means you're going to be apart from sauce and cheese because both of those key ingredients are practically missing from this pizza. Â So dry and tasteless. Â Basically a chore to eat this. Â Cardboard.
Review Source:Came here after purchasing a GroupOn...so happy that it was my first time here and that I had a GroupOn.
In a city of hundreds of pizza choices, this should not be one of yours. Â We placed a carry out order and as I was waiting for my salad I was watching the kitchen staff. Â The male wearing the beige/brown sweater and jeans was preparing a salad without gloves or washing his hands before. Â Ok, I'm a little bit of a germphobe, but come on now...at least use the kitchen utensils!
Besides that the pizza was ok, nothing to rave about. Spacca Napoli and Pete's pizza are better choices.
Definitely skip the salad
I was first introduced to Apart on a pizza tour 2 years ago and absolutely loved it! It stands alone in pizza throughout Chicago. They have a very unique style of pizza that mimics true Italian recipe. Their ingredients are fresh and delicious and the staff are friendly. I currently live outside of their delivery area and am very bummed about! Please expand your delivery area Apart! Please!!!!
Review Source:I think for thin crust pizza, this place is pretty good and its well worth going in a few minutes early to watch the guys twirl the thin crust to perfection.
Now for the cons.
Service: I know it's a pizza joint, but damn. The girl at the counter spoke barely louder than a pindrop and looked at me like I was crazy when I didn't have the right change - she actually stared at the coins I put in her hand as if they were from a different planet. As well, my pizza was supposed to be ready in thirty minutes. It was done well before that and by the time I got it in my hands, it was luke warm - nearly cold by the time I got it home. Not a good start.
Crust: I know I said the pizza crust was pretty good, until it started to get cold - and then it just tasted like cardboard.
Parking: Right near the corner of Lincoln and Montrose, but there was little to be found and not too many places to just put your hazards on and run in.
Value: Probably the worst offender of them all. I know it says 18" of pizza, but that's really the same as a 14" normal pizza or a 10" deep dish. I had to eat half the pizza to be full. And at $20 for a topping laden pizza ($17 for a cheese only), the value just isn't there.
I know thin crust is kind of in it's own world, but damn people, we're in Chicago - thin crust just can't compete. That said, if you really like ultra thin crust pizza, then this place may be worth checking out for lack of competition in that arena. If you're looking for just a good pizza, you might want to look elsewhere.
We were told about this place by a friend and I have to say we really haven't been disappointed. Â This is about as close as you can get to NY style pizza here in Chicago.
I like that they seem to have a larger topping selections that an other areas. Â While not everyone's cup of tea...I enjoy sausage and green olives on my pizza and Apart has them.
We have only had delivery directly though them and have never had an issue.
I used my groupon yesterday to order carry out from here. Â Great help when I called in my order-friendly and attentive. Â The pizzas were great! Â I ordered four 10 inch pies: Â 21, 22, 24, and 32. Â They were all fabulous! Â The crust was thin, and the toppings were fresh and delicious. Â
This is a great place, and I will be back!
We got delivery on Friday from Apart. It boiled down to $4 a slice (after tax and tip) and frankly, it wasn't even approaching worth it. The crust was super thin, but so were the toppings. The margherita was basically tomato paste with dry herbs over a cracker with the occasional bit of shredded basil or cheese so thinly sliced, you could just barely make out the over-cooked white dot of its existence.
I love thin-crust, but only when it actually has toppings.
I don't know how I feel about Apart. It wasn't like it was so good I want to rave about it, but it wasn't so bad that I wanted to trash it. It was just mediocre. I ordered the margarita pizza. I knew it was thin crust but I was pleasantly surprised as to how thin it actually was. The prices were good for an individual pizza. The only thing that bothered me was the flavor. It was lacking in cheese. It looked like they threw on a couple mozzarella balls and called it a pizza. A margarita pizza is my favorite mainly because of the basil. Literally they might have taken a shredded leaf and strategically placed it look like a sufficient amount.
I do want to try it again, because I want to like it. Next time I'll probably settle with the goat cheese pizza since I've heard great things about it.
This place gets on my nerves sometimes nowadays... I ordered delivery on Friday and it took two and a half hours to get to my apartment. I've learned the hard way recently that if you order on a busy night (Friday or Saturday pretty much) there's not a very good chance that you'll get your food in anything less than an hour and a half. I'll stick to ordering on weeknights from now on, or order three hours before I want to eat.
At least it was hot, I'll give them that.
I have been into Apart Pizza several times and each time I want it to be good...but it isn't. Â I have tried the pizza and the salads and neither really wow me. Â I went in today to give it one more chance and order a greek salad with chicken, to my surprise it was a $13 salad. Â Well, for a $13 salad, I expect it to be something tasty, but of course it was not. Â There was about 500 olives on the salad and 10 pieces of actual lettuce. Â The chicken was pre-cooked or something as it had a really weird taste about it. Â Let's just say I tossed the salad right in the garbage pretty much.
Sadly, I have to give this neighborhood joint a bad review. Â I usually can find something positive about a place, but I really can't pull anything out the hat. Â If anything, there is a guy who works there that is always pretty friendly.
Like they say in baseball, 3 strikes and you're out. Â I'm heading down the street to Armands for any of my pizza needs!
We ordered 3 10" pizzas: the two I ordered were:
-Queen margherita: fresh tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil. This was my favorite of the two. The basil was fresh, ingredients were great.
-Capra-ruccola: goat cheese, arugula-I felt like they over did it with the arugula. There was a stack of arugula on the pizza and it took over the taste, but the goat cheese was a great taste. It would have been nicer with less arugula.
-Sweet filoncino: with chocolate, hazelnut filling. This was very nice! I only had once piece because I was stuffed, but nice taste. I think it was nutella.
-Sweet potaoto pie- what a great seasonal pie! It was warm and the perfect sweetness to it. Great choice
Place itself is small. There are just two tables and the counter. Most people do carry out or delivery. We had a groupon so we had a great steal! The staff was VERY nice so we left a nice tip! I would go back!
So I'm writing this while eating my gluten free pizza from Apart... my lovingly microwaved pizza. Why microwaved, you ask? Because it was delivered cold.
There is seriously no excuse for a cold pizza on a Monday night. Also, the dough doesn't seem to actually be cooked through all the way. The dough itself is ok, but not great. I can honestly make more on my own using a simple almond flour recipe.
Besides the temperature issues, the pizza has a somewhat mealy texture, and is limp (and was limp before I microwaved it).
I bought the Groupon's for this place based on Yelp reviews and I have to say I have not been impressed. Â
Crust is thin which I like, but a bit tasteless and bland. Â The toppings are on the skimpy side and whole sections of each slice having nothing but cheese on them. Â I was going to go the menu to list the four pizza's we have tried but in the end it doesn't matter because all four were pretty bland and skimpy. Â Oh well. Â
The biggest piece of evidence against them is that leftovers from Apart usually go to waste in our house because no one is that excited about eating it again on the second day!
What are they Apart from? Â Domino's and Little C's? Â Surely. Â Papa John's? Not really. Â Art of Pizza? Â No chance. Â Mista's? Â About even. Â Carreno's, Pete's Pizza, and Robey Pizza? Â Definitely.
I like those odds. Â Plus, it's cheap. Â Not LC cheap, but that's not even fuckin' pizza. Â That's pizza by-product. Â It's why you can't digest it.
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my food from Apart. Â
We ordered 2 pies: The Cacciatore (which sadly doesn't have cacciatore, but is still great and comes with ham, bacon, onions, and garlic) and the Greca (strong (yay!) feta, peppers, onions, and tomatoes). Â We also ordered a calzone; The Verdura (peppers, spinach, tomatoes).
We got the 10" pies, and for around $7 each, I couldn't be more impressed. Â Unless it had actual cacciatore on it. Â The calzone was phenomenal. Â Crispy crust, lots of veg, decadent cheese. Â It didn't last long.
The pies are thin crust. Â Not the thinnest I've had (that award goes to Mista's, me thinks), but very thin nonetheless. Â I much more enjoy pizza when I don't feel guilty as shit for eating the equivalent of a loaf of bread in carbs. Â
Two 10" pies and a calzone was just about right for two people. Â Mind you, I weight more than twice as much as my counterpart, so it could easily be enough for 3 meek people. Â =) Â
Nothing really else to say. Â I got take out, so I can't comment on the delivery or dining in. Â After reading some of the other reviews, it sounds like take out is the best option anyway.
So, if you live in the area, this place is on the up-n-up, and you need to get your ass here. Â
-Cheeers!
dont go there, at least not tonight. Â Its a mess, i had to go ask about my simple order about 40 mins after placing it, the girl clearly set it aside and had stumbled upon it after i asked. Â She came back with my salad and no pizza, so again i went and asked about it. Â It was probably about half way done cooking when the guy went in for it and threw it in the box... i was worried but for some reason gave the benefit of the doubt and took it home (by now i was starving). i have time to write this review because it is currently in my oven so i can eat a cooked pizza. Â the salad is good but little consolation considering the price tag.
An unsolicited tip from someone who has worked at a pizza place: at the very least divide your counter up into 3 sections - New orders, In progress, and Completed orders. Â dont just throw tickets around and expect things to magically sort themselves out.
A 10" pizza is more than enough for one person, but at only $5-6 per pie, you can get your very own! Very good for people who can't agree on toppings. And at Apart Pizza, they have quite a few toppings to choose from.
The pizza is a perfect balance of sauce, cheese and crust, and the pizza is cut into triangles. Appropriately-cut pizza ALWAYS tastes better!
This place is also byob AND just around the corner from Half Acre Brewing. Make sure to pick up a growler of fresh beer before you hit this place up!
I'm not lying when I say this is, without a doubt, the worst pizza I've ever had. Seriously disgusting. Soggy like a crepe! But please, let's start from the beginning.
I have many pizza menus to chose from. I remember when the Apart menu arrived at my door. I liked the logo design and the interesting meat and veggie combinations--I like pizza with lots of "stuff" on it. The prices seemed really reasonable, so I overlooked the Pete's menu and the D'Augustino's menu and called Apart. I was having a staff meeting so I was ordering LOTS of food. 2 large pizzas, 4 salads and one of ever dessert thing-y. It came to like $90. I thought they'd probably be stoked to have a $90 order, given these tough times...
An hour and a half later (which is what I'd expected), the pizzas and weird desserts arrived. No salads. The nice delivery man said he'd go back and get them. Okay, whatevs. I took the pizza into the kitchen and opened the boxes and it looked like the pizza had been dropped on the floor. It was all curled up in the corner of the box like a newly molted snake skin. GROSSSSS! And it was supposed to be 1/2 no cheese on both pizzas and was only 1/2 no cheese on one. And it was cold!
So I called to complain. The lady on the phone apologized and said she'd refund my card and "This order will be free". I thanked her and hung up. Then I thought, I wonder if they are going to still bring those salads. Â I called back to ask and she was like "You still want those?" "Yeah, well, we're still hungry". "Oh, okay" she said. The salads never did arrive.
We tried to eat as much of that cold soggy nastiness as we could without vomiting, because we were hungry, then we tried the desserts. I remembered from the menu that the dessert's name was TRADEMARKED! "What an odd thing to declare as a trademark", I thought. This is what the dessert was: leftover pizza dough baked with canned pie filling and sprinkled with powdered sugar. It was horrible and sad. No one ate it. I even took it to a friend's house later to try to make them eat it and they just stared at it with pity and disgust. And here's the thing...not 24 hours earlier, I had all these people drinking Malort. These are not people adverse to grossness.
So...terrible delivery times, cold soggy pizza, terribly screwed up order, pathetic dessert..AND they haven't refunded my money to my credit card! Thieves as well.
Don't go here and give them the finger for me whenever you pass their intersection.
Mmm delizioso!
When it comes to Italian food in general and pizza specifically, I have been totally spoiled, thanks to my Grandma on my Dad's side who is an Italian goddess of the kitchen.
So, to be honest, going into this I didn't really have high expectations, but wanting to give them a fair chance, I decided to order one of their 10" personal pans and give it a whirl.
After reviewing their menu I finally decided on their Greca which has feta cheese, peppers (both red and yellow) fresh tomatoes, black olives and onions. I got all this for the low price of $6.50 plus free delivery and a free beverage. What's not to love about free?
Well, imagine my surprise when I took that first bite. I thought I had returned to my Grandma's kitchen. Yup it was that good! The ingredients were fresh and the dough was hand tossed just like my Grandma does in her kitchen.
Molto grazie to Apart, for making pizza my Grandma would be proud of! I can't wait to manga here again real soon.
Not only is the pizza here delicious, as it is at the other location on Broadway, but the delivery rocks too! I was at an undisclosed location *slightly* outside their regular delivery area tonight. I spoke with the owner, B, at the Broadway location and she was fantastic and accommodating. Oh sure, I schmoozed her up and talked of 5 star yelp reviews, and how much we adore the pizza (not a lie in the least!). And we got it. Apart Pizza delivered to Location #2.
Muuaahahahahahhahah!!!!!!
Let me begin by saying I like Apart Pizza. They are conveniently located just down the street. I find their menu enticing with some unique items on it. One of our favorites is the Capriciosa: ham, fresh champignons, artichokes. And you can't beat free delivery which has always been prompt.
But crispy crust pizza is not synonymous with Apart. I read some of the other Yelp reviews and numerous times Apart's thin "crispy" crust is much heralded. I would like to experience this personally as I have never had a crispy pizza from Apart. The pies are always soggy and have to be eaten with a fork. They taste delicious which is why we'll probably continue to order from Apart. But it bugs the hell out of me that the pizza is always limp.
In summation, I guess I don't like limp things - I prefer certain things stiff. And pizza is one of them.
There was a time in my life when I could easily eat pizza every day. Then fifth grade was over and I got a more sophisticated palate. Apart Pizza however makes me want to regress to my days of having a higher metabolism and devour their pizza daily (mmm, drool, nom nom nom). Its really that good.
Some of my  favorites that I must highly recommend include the cacciatore pizza, the quattro formaggi, and what's possibly my new favorite, the Hawaii.
Fans of thin crust, high quality, absolutely amazing pizza should definitely check out what Apart has to offer.
I'm not a huge pizza fan but many of my friends are. So I end up having pizza quite often as part of my 'hakuna matata' going-with-the-flow mentality. But because I'm not all that keen on pizza, I tend to be more critical of the dish. Anyone who said that pizza is good even when it's bad should be punched flat on a countertop, flapped into the air and slid into an oven. In my book, bad pizza FRIGGING SUCKS.
Now that I've got that off my chest, let me say that the pizza from Apart Pizza Company is very good. I love the thin crust which is ever so slightly chewy in the middle and delicately crispy at the edges. The toppings are fresh and flavourful. The sauce actually tastes of tomato, not tomato by-product. And my lips aren't reduced to kisser jerky from overzealous salting. AND the pizza is cut into triangular pizza-shaped slices! None of those bizarre squares, like brownies gone bad.
Now, this pizza is good.
Recently, a friend and I stopped in and ordered a large sausage and arugula pizza to go. It seemed a pretty slow time for them so our pizza was ready within 20 minutes. My friend's baby didn't even have time to begin fussing. We rushed back to his place and dug in. The pizza held up wonderfully and my friend commented on how much he liked it. (FYI, he's picky as hell and can fuss almost as much as his baby.)
The store is very small and usually seems empty. Hopefully that doesn't mean they're suffering for business. I'm guessing they do a lot of deliveries and pick-ups*.The large number of positive write-ups here is comforting, because a place like this must not go away!
In conclusion, I have to say that Apart really 'does it' for me.
*If you call in a pick-up order, please do not be an asshole and park in the bus stop when you come to claim your food. Yes, that enticingly convenient stretch of 'open' road directly across the street from Apart? The one with the BUS SHELTER and the BUS STOP SIGN by it? Yes, that's a bus stop, where buses stop to pick up passengers. If you park there, or idle there while your food is being prepared, IT CAUSES A HUGE TRAFFIC JAM when the bus has to stop in the middle of the lane, or worse, in the middle of the intersection. You're smart enough to order good pizza, so be even smarter and avoid being an asshole. Just so you know, every time I've seen an asshole parked there I've called the cops, and the cops have always come. Do you know how many pizzas you could buy with the money spent on a non-moving traffic violation?
In attempts to eat healthier, I've been searching for good thin crust pizza. Â Apart delivers (both figuratively and literally) a delicious, healthy thin crust pizza. Â I'm lucky that I have a friend who lives right above the Montrose location so we grabbed a pizza to go and ate at his place. Â Otherwise, delivery is free!
My favorite has to be their Capra-Ruccola which has goat cheese and arugula. Â On top of great pizza, they have a fantastic rewards program. Â I've tried a couple of their pizzas and I favor the arugula and goat cheese pizza, but they have a unique vegetarian pizza that even has corn in it, too. Â Even though I'm allergic to it, I've also heard good things about this other pizza that has fresh tomatoes and shrimp in it.
Apart is a unique experience and a healthy alternative to Chicago greasy deep dish pizza. Â Pictures to follow once I upload them.
If you know me, you know I love Pizza. It's my favorite comfort food and despite how much my waistline hates it, I indulge as often as possible. I have a pretty discriminating pizza palette and to whomever said 'pizza is like sex... even when it's bad it's still pretty good' obviously has never had the standout Neapolitan creations from Apart Pizza Company; great Italian style pizza is the only way to go when you're doing thin crust. Period.
They offer personal size 8" pies so you can enjoy and share several of their wood-fired creations with your friends and at $5.75 each w/ free delivery you can't beat that even with crappy-pie Domino's.
I'm not sure what the restaurant is like (no pics online) since I've only had delivery... but I would suggest eating there if you can. Their pizzas are fabulous but a thin and crispy pizza like this should be eaten right out of the oven. Traveling in the car doesn't do these pies much justice... The Francese pizza w/ ham, brie and a sunny side up egg will show up at your door with a fully cooked egg. That's just the breaks in delivery folks.
Stick with the Quatro Formaggi (amazing!!) or the Cacciatore with bacon, pepperoni, ham and garlic. Both are bellissimo!!!!
I have two words for you: chocolate pizza.
Okay, it's more like a cross between a baguette and a calzone, but it comes stuffed with chocolate and dusted with sugar and cinnamon. Or you can get it stuffed with mango, apricot, apple, or blueberry. But why would you?
Now that dessert is out of the way, let's talk about dinner.
I've only ordered delivery from Apart, which makes sense since they offer free delivery. You will wait for your pizza, because they are made to order, unlike some chains which have partially made pizzas ready to go into the oven. That said, your delivery will be much quicker on a weekday than a weekend.
The pizzas are traditional Neapolitan pizza, which means thin crust and light toppings. If you are looking for standard American pizza or heavy Chicago pizza, you won't find it here. But if you want hand rolled crust and homemade sauce, this is the place for you.
Your best bet is to go with one of their signature pies. These are a little unusual, like the gamberetti (fresh tomatoes and shrimp) and the francese (brie, ham, and egg). I'm a carnivore, but their veggie pizza -- artichokes, corn, peppers, fresh tomatoes, and spinach -- is a treat. I also like the four cheese, with brie, goat cheese, parmesan, and bleu cheese.
My only caveat about Apart is that their pizzas don't always travel well. I have had pizzas from them in which the crust at the center of the pizza is soggier than the dough at the edges. But compared to the standard delivery pizza, where the dough is either soggy or too chewy, this isn't a problem.
Apart isn't my go-to place. I generally go for the cheesy, heavy mess that is standard American fare. But when I'm in the mood for the kind of pizza Apart makes, no one makes it better.
