Came here last Sunday, and noticed it was already a bit busy, but I decided to stay because the host told me it would be a 5-10 minute wait. WRONG. It became 30 minutes, and other parties ahead of us were starting to complain about the wait. Instead of waiting LONGER, we decided to just leave. The host could have at least explained the reason for the wait to everyone, or at least apologized.
Review Source:My family had dinner here tonight and it was $55 wasted in our opinion. Â The service was horrible, the food mediocre - cold fries, overcooked steak and burger, soggy quesadilla and the adult portions were kid-sized. The servers seemed more interested standing around chatting with each other than actually helping the customers. Â We thought it would be a quick and easy night out, but it would have been better to drive through the local fast-food place than go here. Â I won't be spending any more of my hard-earned dollars here, that's for sure. Â Save your money and go anywhere else.
Review Source:Food: Not bad for the price and pretty standard across all Applebee's. The wait was pretty short as well. No issues with the food. It's exactly what I expected, which is a good thing.
Service: This area is a serious issue. I was sat at near the bar area with my niece and nephew due to limited seating. This would have been fine except that there were a group of employees just hanging out and having a blast during, what I assume, was their break. I can see why this would be allowed by management during certain time, but not until later - much later - in the dinner service. To top it off, the group was loud and the conversations were very personal and at times extremely inappropriate. Management needs to crack down or something.
I still had about $11.00 left on an Applebee's gift card that my hubby and I received from our daughter (Christmas 2011), so we decided to use up the balance of the gift card.
We were seated immediately and the service was okay. Â Our waitress was friendly and filled our water glasses. Â I guessed we lucked out that evening because this restaurant could be a hit or miss when it comes to service. Â Either the service is right on or it's slow as molasses.
There were a few new items on the menu and the descriptions of the items sounded tasty. Â I ordered the margarita chicken and shrimp rice plate for $9.99 and husband decided to get the California shrimp salad. Â Surprisingly, these two items weren't that bad. Â The portions were generous for the value of the meals (3.5 stars). Â I also ordered a mango tea, which was A-OK, nothing extraordinary...not like that Arnie Palmer from the Westside Club. Â There was more tea flavor than mango...the balance of fruit and tea was a little off. Â About the only other good thing that my husband enjoy is their perfect margarita.
I haven't been here for quite a while, now I remember why. Very awful when it comes to the wait to be seated. We were told that it would be a 10 to 15 minute wait to be seated (A party of two). We must of waited for like 20 mins and that was ridiculous when there was plenty of empty tables. The waitress took our order for drinks right away but it took a while for our actual entree order. I don't recommend to come here. I don't think I will coming back anytime soon.
Review Source:I just spent $14.00 on half a burger. I order a burger MEDIUM and it comes WELL DONE. I have a limited time for lunch and told the waitress I was disappointed and her response was " oh I'm sorry here's your check" and by the way, I got served AFTER the couple that was seated after me got served. even burger king cook's it the way you want it. you could have at least offered to comp my soda. BAD EXPERIANCE.
Review Source:Great place for dinner hang outs! Celebrated an old friend's birthday/farewell dinner this past Saturday. Great food, great customer service! Plenty of parking since it's in a shopping plaza. Medium done steak was oozing with juice! Bahama Mama's delicious! With time, guess I can get used to the Peach Sangria too!
Review Source:Seated in 15 minutes not bad , server not attentive at all but attentive to other tables who are done. It's actually not busy i work at a restaurant that's busier and our service is superb even though its busy. Haven't even got my food yet as I'm giving this review
Food is always fine for me the one star is for service, our server is so bad that the host is actually refilling our drinks rather than our server
My boyfriend and I decided on coming in after we both had long days at work. Something tasty, quick, and traditional. Boy were we mistaken.
We were seated about 5 minutes after arriving and then led to a table over towards the back of the restaurant. The server, Karen, came out and took our order. We ordered the 2 for $20. I got the 7 oz. sirloin and the boyfriend got the 3 Cheese penne pasta and after 10 minutes, still no drinks on our table. I see her walking with our drinks and goes. to three other tables and then remembers it's OUR table that needs those. Third time is a charm, sweetie.
About 20-25 minutes go by and we finally receieve our appetizer of Mozarella sticks. My boyfriend took a bite of his first stick and it was completely HOLLOW. Yes, my fellow yelpers, HOLLOW CHEESE STICK.
45 minutes later, we get our food. Not only was his moderately warm, my steak was tough as nails and as far as rare as you can get. Funny, I asked for it medium well.
She didn't bother to ask how our food was or if we needed refills or anything. The most INEPT server ever. Food was medicore. Bad bad bad. Spent over and hour there when all we wanted was something quick and yummy. DO. NOT. COME. HERE.
What started out as a routine dinner at a chain restaurant to celebrate my dad's 87th birthday, was transformed by the fortune of being seated in Charde Olivia M's area. We were greeted with her huge smile and the rest of the evening was made special by the attention she showed to my parents. Our meals were served exactly as requested (steaks cooked to order with my request of no potatos and double the veggies) and our deliberation over what to order for dessert was answered by Charde's suggestion of "does your dad like chocolate-I have this handled". She, and another server, showed up at the table with a huge icecream sundae and they joined us singing Happy Birthday to my dad. His eyes lit up like a little kid when he dug into that icecream. My parents and I will be returning to Applebees at the South Shore Center in Alameda purely because of the genuine care and kindness exhibited to us by Miss Charde Olivia M. Thank you for helping to make this evening a special one for my dad!!!
Review Source:I swear this place gets worse by the day!! I use to love going to Applebees for dinner and was happy that the Alameda location is near my house.
But as time goes by, the quality of their food and the service gets worse and worse.
The last time I went, I ordered the "Bourbon Street Steak" which I love. The steak is supposed to come out on a SIZZLING platter, but it came out cold! On top of that, my steak tasted like soap or alcohol. NOT kidding, it had a disgusting aftertaste which felt acidic! I asked my bf to try a piece of the steak and he immediately spat it out and flagged our waiter down. We notified him that the piece of steak tasted weird and had a horrible aftertaste to it, he took it back to the kitchen and came back telling us that it was "probably from the sizzling platter when they washed it".
Uh..not coming back after that experience.
This place is horrible with no manager in sight or doing their job.
It takes forever to get sat even when there are tables available. Â The two hostess guys talk to each other instead of being a good hostess.
My steak was well done TWICE even though my meal was ordered medium rare. Â The people in my party were done before I even got my second steak that was over cooked again. Â They charged me for my meal even though it was done wrong two times and I couldn't eat it. Â The waiter did not refill my water once in a 90 minute visit and also said he talked to manager about my meal being wrong and gave me $5 credit but I still had to pay for meal that I did not eat because it was improperly cooked.
We had to pick up a good friend at the airport and since applebee's in Alameda was on the way, we decided to have a late dinner here.
As we walked in, we were greeted by the host who was friendly. Â There were quite a number of people seated waiting for their tables, but since we were only a party of two we were lucky and only had to wait for about five minutes.
Our server was really great. Â We ordered the one apetizer and two entrees for twenty bucks. Â I got the steak with mashed potates and vegetables and we got the fried cheese sticks that came with a marinara dip. Â I was pleasantly surprised with the food. Â It was tasty, although a bit on the salty side. Â My steak was kind of small, but it was tender and juicy. Â The fried cheesesticks were good and there were a lot of them in the basket. Â The one minor compaint I had was that the apetizer came at the same time our entrees came. Â Also, the sangria was seven bucks which was a little pricey. Â (they don't list the prices of their drinks on the menu.) Â It was huge though.
The restaurant was jammed packed and buzzing with conversation. Â I enjoyed myself and even had a little bit of food to take home which I enjoyed today as a small snack. Â I will proabably be back. Â I think I will rate this place between 3.5 and 4 stars. Â For a chain restaurant, it was satisfying to me.
I actually had a really great experience at the Applebees branch in Fremont. The employees were super friendly and responsive, the food was amazing (I know! Surprising for a chain restaurant) and it was cheap to boot. What more could you want?
A couple of weeks later my boyfriend and I were starting to crave the tender, juicy, well-seasoned ribs that we'd had at Fremont but being from Berkeley, we didn't want to do the long drive, so we decided to check out the branch in Alameda instead.
The experience was completely different. We arrived at the Alameda branch and found a ton of people sitting around in the waiting area. There were two guys behind the booth just chatting with each other and it probably took them 10 minutes to even notice we were standing right in front of them and another 5 minutes for them to stop chatting to take our name down for the waiting list.
There were empty tables everywhere, but for some reason they refused to sit anyone until people at the filled tables had left. Um. Ok? Luckily we didn't have to wait long, but I was still confused as to why people were sitting around in the waiting area with so many empty tables. Most importantly I was shocked by the inefficiency of the operation. One waiter would tell the other that he had already wiped down a table of 2 and was ready to seat someone and the guy in charge would tell him to wipe down a different table and seat that table first. ??? What are they thinking? So many waiters were kind of just wandering around not really doing anything. It was realy annoying.
Finally we were led to our table and there was a huge duct table across the seat to keep the booth stuffing from falling out. That was kind of gross. Also, the table was sticky, even though it had been wiped down.
We ordered the same ribs we had ordered from the Fremont branch and it was disgusting. Theribs were so tough it hurt my teeth eating them. Usually Im not a picky eater, but I would definitely say know what you're getting yourself into when you're coming to this place. Be prepared for very slow inattentive service and subpar food.
The saving grace of the place was definitely their $1.99 dessert shots which was yummy in that trashy, filled with whipped cream kind of way and their margaritas weren't bad, but nothing to write home about. In other words, come here if you're in the area and don't have any other choices, but its definitely not worth a special trip down.
I was looking for a place to take my guest. Applebee's looked attractive and they served refreshing beverages. The restarunt was clean; staff was very welcoming they served the water and drinks very quickly. We order almost all of the appetizers on the menu to taste everything. The food was served with in an acceptable amount of time. We enjoyed everything we ordered; the only thing I didn't like was that the chips were really saturated with oil.
Overall we had an enjoyable experience and will return to Applebee's in Alameda.
Yesterday was my father's birthday, and my mother had found out she succeeded in passing her Landscape Architect License Exam. To celebrate these heavenly occasions, we went to the Applebee's in the South Shore Center in Alameda, CA at night. When we entered the door, we found out the restaurant was jam-packed with people. We had to wait a very long time, even though there were many empty seats to be seen. Luckily, to pass the time, I took a "Family Activity Book" and an orange crayon, and began to amuse myself with the activities within the booklet. This is my recommendation for killing boredom while waiting for a seat in Applebee's - get an activity booklet.
Later, we got seats near the very back of Applebee's. Applebee's is adorned with many photographs depicting the history of Alameda Island, so while you're waiting for your meal to come, looking at these photos will help you to pass the time. A waitress came over, and we ordered an entrée of hot boneless wings to share, a chicken and shrimp meal with potatoes for my father, a shrimp fettuccine alfredo for my mother and a jalapeno-Swiss cheese burger with fries for me. It took quite a while for the dishes to come. When the first dish, the boneless wings, came, they looked delectable, with several stalks of celery on the side and a dip of ranch dressing. When I took a bite out of a wing, however, they were not as delicious as I expected them to be. The taste was pretty satisfying, tasting like normal buffalo sauce, but the texture was slimy and too smooth for my taste, as if something we normally don't consume was put into the boneless wings. My parents, however, enjoyed this dish. The next dish I tasted was the jalapeno burger. When I removed the topmost bun to add ketchup to the burger, I received a minor shock. Sitting on the perfectly cooked patty with melted Swiss cheese were a major amount of slice jalapeno peppers. I tried one of the peppers, and-Oh boy! - They were extremely spicy. I thought if I ate the peppers with the burger, it would minimize the spiciness of the peppers, but no-I was wrong. As soon as I took a bite out of the burger, my throat felt as if it were being cooked in Hell by the devil. I took several more bites, thinking I could brave this spicy madness, but alas, my throat was suffering too abnormally. What I did was I took the peppers out of the burger, and mixed them in with the fries (jalapeno fries-my newest creation). The burger started to decrease in spiciness, and my throat calmed down. When I was done with the burgers, I tried the (jalapeno) fries-with ketchup. The jalapeno peppers were still spicy, but with the fries, they seemed to magically decrease in spiciness. As soon as we were done with the meal and digesting the food, my parents drank a little Blue Moon beer and called for the check to come.
Overall, the Applebee's meal was tolerable. The food was not as good as I thought modern American food should be, and the service is a little sluggish. The prices are also a little too much. If a friend asked me if he/she should go to this restaurant, I would exclaim, "Only for celebratory purposes!"
And that, my friends, is the end of my Applebee's quest.
I have noticed that many yelper's writes about positive things, but for me, I will be straightforward and honest, not trying to hurt anyone here. So here is my experience today.
After a long day at the gym with my friend, I was expecting for something to munch on so we decided on going to Applebee's. Our drinks come pretty late just for water, and nothing special. I ordered the grilled sirloin steak which comes with onions, potatoes, mushroom with spinach and my friend ordered this chicken pasta without shrimps. The food or the portion of it seems pretty decent I guess, until I took the first bite of my steak which is way too salty and a bit overcooked for a medium rare (not exaggerating, I asked my friend to try it too and he agrees with me), potatoes need to be cooked longer, and the mushroom with the spinach on top was really nasty and it has cheese on it too. I am trying to eat healthy and this meal is under 500 calories which I don't think so since it's way too salty and greasy. So I complained to the waitress and she told the manager who gives me a $5 discount. So my experience for today was not worth it at all in health and money wise.
I didn't even want to give a star. This Applebee's sucked so bad, if I wasn't as hungry as I was I would have walked out! We had to ask for the manager after 20 minutes
of no service, and he asked what would we like to drink. After returning with our drinks, we each had something floating in our drinks... So overall I will never return back!
First of all they have really bad service most of the time. They used to have ok to good service, but I have to say that the quality of this place has gone down. I have been here a few years back where the service was good.
I have been here before with a group or with one other person. The food quality was better back then as opposed to now.
I like sitting at booths, and the last time I came here, there were several booths open, but the waiters told me that they were already reserved. We were there for quite some time, and I did not see any guests sitting at those booths which really drove me mad. Because of this, I don't think I will be back at all, even if they dragged me there and apologized. I have worked in a restaurant before, so I know how it is. A customers needs should always be first, and I was quite nice about it. Despite their treatment towards me, I always leave a tip because it might be split amongst everyone who works there. I shouldn't punish the others for an action of one person. Speaking about this issue has gotten me even more riled up with how they treated me.
One good thing about this experience was that my waitress was actually really nice since she came to check on us and had a really good attitude.
The food here is just so-so, just like any other american style restaurants, so there's not much to say there. The cocktails are not that good as well. Don't order their flavored lemonades because it tastes like syrup.
All in all a one star because I have had so much better in the past.
I came here not having high expectations, so I wasn't overly disappointed when I left. If I could summarize this place in one word, that would be "slow."
Getting seated was slow, getting food was slow, getting the bill was slow.
This Applebee's seems to have issues in the kitchen. The place lost my friend's order and he ended up waiting 30 minutes for nothing (they did comp. the entree for him which was appropriate), and then took a very long time for the other entrees as well.
I don't normally complain about the slowness of a location, but this location was just inappropriate in the amount of time it took something to get done for the large number of employees that were on shift. While we sat at our table waiting, I noticed that 4 of the waiters were chatting at the front of the restaurant.
In terms of cleanness, I wasn't too surprised to find that my utensils had water marks and my knife had a piece of food on it. Also worth noting is that the tables were sticky sticky sticky.
In terms of food, it's the kind of food you can expect from a family restaurant chain. Little variety, high in calories. Honestly, food here is no different than some place like Lyon's or somewhere like Elephant Bar. The entrees themselves are high in calorie like Cheesecake factory.
I wouldn't come here again honestly, given the other options that available not too far away.
Our family tends to head to Applebees when we're hungry. Not sure why.
We've come twice within the past few weeks to scope out Alameda as a city. The first time was a pitstop for the ice cream. No complaints: quick seating, good service, quick paying.
The second time we had a great server, but found that one of the appetizers we get is different than the ones from the other ones we've been to from the Valley. Waaay too spicy for a mild flavor. Our food came out just fine -- sizzling as appropriate, hot as appropriate.
We will end up heading back sometime soon.
Came here twice. Both times with my boyfriend. The first time we came here it was pretty late at night around 9pm and it was a random weekday, we were hungry and I decided on the 2 for $20 meal so here we were. We got seated right away!
I ordered the steak $2 for a 9oz one, with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. IT was yummy. I always always get the spinach artichoke dip even though I know my bf doesn't even like it because he always dips his chips in the salsa lol. Oh, the things you do for love right? He got chicken pasta I forgot which one, but it was nice and big portioned. We were happy campers that night.
The second time we came here was recent and it was on a weekend. When I opened the door I saw large parties just waiting. There were empty tables for two on the side so I thought I would get seated right away but the host told me it would be a good 20mins. Alright I guess even though I CLEARLY see the line of empty tables (WTH?) so we decided to do some snack shopping at Trader Joes next door to kill some time.
Came back and waited 10 more mins before we finally got called. As always we started off with the spinach and artichoke dip. For the entrees I decided on the slab of ribs with mashed potatoes instead of fries and my bf got some new pasta that was on the menu (he didn't like it) and said the chicken tasted funny. The ribs were delish!!! I felt sorry for my bf so I gave him some of my ribs lol. The service was all bad since it was busy. And there was a big party at a table that was like arguing with the manager causing drama. So ghetto. Won't be back for a while!
Applebees need to step up on their services They need more experience servers who knows how to hustle and/or more cooks. It took us an hour and a half to finally get our food. Our waiter only came to our table when he gave us our food which we demanding to give our kids meal first. They could only sit for so long.
No management on site. It took us approximately more than 40 minutes to finally get a table then another 45 minutes plus to get our food.
Just when we thought Applebees were getting back on track with their menu (which is great)... it's the services that sucks. This is the second time we've had slow service and will think twice to come back here.
What is interesting is we've had the same server twice. Bring a game board with you to help pass the time.
It's not welcoming anymore. No friendly services. No smiles greeted us. A lot of people came in to wait then left.
This is NOT a place to go.
2 x my meal came out cold. The manger comped the meal. But. 2x. Come on. The sad part is that the cook told the manager that is was good. It wasn't.
Seems like some others have also had problems with the food being cold too.
The people were nice enough, I could tell they felt bad but we really just wanted something 'ok' to eat and they couldn't provide that.
Service:
Horrible, i think one time me and my friends came here and got seated but 30 mins to an hour later there was no service, so we just got up and left.
Parking:
Yea, sometimes but expect a crowd.
Food:
They're okay but heres the breakdown of my experience:
Steak:
if u order the regular sized ones that's like 7 oz., i got like a chicken drumstick sized piece of meat that i finished in a few bites; unlike the other times that i ordered the 7oz.
The last time i ordered steak i ordered a 9 oz. and it was Huge enough to fill me up so note to self; 7oz vs 9oz = BIG DIFFERENCE.
Drinks:
They're okay, but i dont recommend ordering the frozen lemonades and shakes, they taste like homemade out-of-the-can drinks plus a couple cup-fulls of syrup. The Alcohol drinks on the other hand are quite delicious.
Salads:
Don't expect too much, they're just the 'standard' salad; u can find better in a jack in the box.
Sizzling plates:
yea they look good in commercials but in reality it's just food cooked and then put on a hot plate that burns the bottom of the food. The hot sizzling entree plates look very splintery and used, and the food on top is very limited in serving size. Not something i should've gotten because of curiosity over the other menu items.
Overall:
Come here but dont expect good service nor good seating, the waiters/waitresses dont seem to be paid or trained well enough. The food's okay, just be sure to know what your getting so you dont get disappointed.
You only wanna come here for happy hour and that is already hard to bear.
As a Alameda Local, I still somehow manage to come to this particular location like once a year and it is always the same thing, Bad Service.
or too salty or too cold served food
I know its a chain and it's AppleBee's, but I would like to see the service improve.
I came here last Thursday for Happy Hour and the bartender took over 30 min to serve us Chicken Wings. It's really not that difficult, I just want my food served in a timely courteous manner.
The first two times I've been here was a-okay, but my last visit was easily among the worst service I have ever received in a restaurant.
Some friends and I came here for happy hour on a Saturday night (one plus: they have happy hour on Saturday) expecting cheap food and booze.
For some reason, it takes FOREVER to be seated here. There are always a string of empty tables the staff, for some reason, refuses to use. So my friends and I headed to the bar.
Previously, the beer here was only $2.50 for a pint of Shocktop. This day, it was $3.50 -- perhaps because the glass was bigger?
My friends and I drank our beer. We frowned at each other. "This doesn't taste like Shocktop..." Indeed, it didn't. What we were drinking tasted like Bud Light, or some other water-downed beer. We detected none of the orangey goodness that accompanied a glass of Shocktop.
Puzzled, we continued drinking reluctantly. Since we weren't 100% sure we weren't actually drinking Shocktop, we didn't complain. Still...our Beer Senses were tingling and the bartender seemed a bit smug we had tipped him so much (for the wrong beer, mayhaps?!).
We then decided to get a table. Adding ourselves to the waitlist, we stood around for 10 minutes. 15 minutes flew by. We herded ourselves to a standalone table and placed our beers down. 20 minutes. Then 25 minutes. We grabbed chairs from a nearby tables and eventually seated ourselves.
30 minutes later, the host comes to us and says, "You guys can just take this time, is this okay with you?" Um sure, why not. (It took you this long?)
We get menus, but no one ever comes to take our order. Â We ask to place a order, and the host replies that he will get our server...who never comes. So we walked out.
Wrong beer + nonexistent service = mleh. I suspect it was an off night, as the previous times were decent, but irregardless, Applebees needs to step it up. Â
Note to those who want to come here on a weekend night: prepare yourselves for an unreasonably long wait.
My friend and I were craving dessert last night and happened to be in Alameda... so we figured we'd go to Applebee's for some generic dessert.
We sat in the bar area. Â Despite numerous waitstaff passing by, it took over ten minutes for anyone to come to our table... and that was AFTER I stopped someone and said (politely) "will anyone be taking our order?"
Our waiter eventually came, seemed bored and never refilled our water (including my hot water for tea). Â
The apple pie thing I ate was good. Â The experience, however, was pretty lousy.
LET ME JUST SAY THIS QUICKLY BEFORE I GET MORE PISSED OFF.
The WORST service ever, hands down. I wanted to strangle the host the most. Don't come here on a Sunday, actually just save yourself some time and don't go here at all. Let us sitting there for 20 minutes without even a menu and an additional 20 min after asking kindly to get some help. It's like I don't even know how they got hired. Do your job, shitty ass workers.
I feel an obligation to write up this review because although Applebee's has a wide arrary of food/drinks/cocktails to offer, great promo ads, various locations, & sincerely good food, THIS location in Alameda, California lacks A LOT of star quality for performance in the "art of waiting a table".
LOCATION: W/in Alameda Shopping Centre (formally known as Southshore Mall) by Alameda Beach, off of Shoreline Drive. Closest to lot by Trader Joe's & where Mervyn's use to be. Plenty of shared parking in this lot.
RESTAURANT: Large, spacious, clean, & welcoming for all sizes. No outdoor seating, but plenty of booths & tables w/ armless chairs in dinning area, as well in separate bar area that have prob 2-3 flat screen TVs hanging on the wall.
CUST SVC: Friendly, polite, & what seemed to be honest effort to please their customers, but STILL need to take classes on waiting tables. My cousins, sis, & myself are greeted immediately upon entrance around 2:30pm 2day (Sat afternoon) & wait about 7-10min to be seated. The place appears to be heavily crowded, or w/ a decent crowd in every section. After eating & on our way out, hostess thanks us for coming & fellow gent-colleague opens the door for us on our way out. Again, team effort here being friendly & polite is 3-stars overall rating...here's how they lost 2-stars. Â
WAITRESS SVC: My sister warned us svc here sucked; she's been frustrated before on previous visits w/ table svc, but said she'd go one more time w/ us. Well in our dinning experience this afternoon, it was our waitress-Tanisha that disappointed us. I really don't know who to point the finger at in this situation..her, the cook, mgmt, or what. Overall w/ our particular waitress, her time management skills for her area, or just our table, was just off. Not thorough in refills during meal, nor quick enough for requests w/ meals such as extra side of ranch/honey mustard. This seems miniscual, but it was a miniscual request that took way longer than expected for parched throats or fries preferred w/ ranch. Tanisha was pleasant w/ smiles & apologic for delays, but it just seemed ridiculous of a wait for what "we" considered simple things.
FOOD: Never disappointed here, hence they gained 1-star! Another restaurant who serves their items to the marketing ad photo used in promo. Everything me & the girls got looked as it should. We got 2-orders of the 2-for-$20, which was 1-app & 2-entrees. I got the Quesadilla Burger http://www.yelp.com/biz_… , sis & cousin got Fire Pit Bacon Burger http://www.yelp.com/biz_… , & other couz got Steakhouse Burger http://www.yelp.com/biz_… Everything absolutely good & gets high recommendation! (Just don't advise to come to this location unless they learn to wait tables)
FINAL TAB: We paid just a lil' over $40 bucks. Will I eat @ Applebee's again? Probably, but I'll be more inclined to Hayward's Southland location over this Alameda location again simply because of high disappointment w/ table svc.
Applebee's..you mean, Crapplebee's. Â I've been to this restaurant twice and both times the experience has been horrific. Â Downright disgusting. Â The food is alright (if you're into overpriced, lackluster dishes), but the service is embarrassing. Â
The first visit, my food arrived cold after waiting what seemed to be an eternity. Â The second visit, the waiter forgot the appetizer altogether and my entree was once again cold. Â As if it was sitting there in the kitchen for 10 minutes. Â
Now, it can't be that hard to fire up some wings, can it? Â We received some lame excuse about the kitchen making a mistake, something really fumbled and unclear. Â At that point, I wasn't interested in hearing about the restaurant's inadequacies. Â I wanted to hurry up, eat my frozen meal and leave. Â
Even the plates they use needs to be upgraded. Â My meal came out on this reddish plate that looked about 20 years old. Â Not appetizing in the slightest. Â
If NoServiceBee's want to stay in business, they REALLY need to work on their customer service. Â Granted, mistakes do happen, but I'm not a masochist, and I won't be eating there for a third time.
Months ago some co-workers and I went to lunch here. Â It's a little ritual that we called Friday Fun Lunch. Â Every Friday we leave the confines of our little slice of office space to venture out into natural light. Â Usually we hem and haw about where to go until I instituted a new system. Â Each week one person gets to pick, and no one can complain. Â Everyone gets a turn.
So, a co-worker who shall remain nameless...his name starts with C and rhymes with snarls, chose Applebees. Â As soon as we sat down, he leaned back and said, "It feels just like home." Â To which I replied, "You have a bunch of ugly crap all over your walls?" Â And that was the highlight of the meal. Â
The food sucked. Â Nuff' said. Â
The only reason I have written this is because a friend of mine has been bugging me to return to my acerbic best. Â I hope Tim is happy. Â I certainly wasn't after leaving that crap shack.
Since everyone knows what to expect when they step foot in an Applebee's (or TGI Friday's, or Chili's...) the only way you can write a bad review of the place is if you 1) have terrible service (which is entirely possible and sometimes probable) or 2) are the unfortunate person who gets an incorrectly prepared meal. Â Because I've never had either experience at this place, they get four stars.
Applebee's is to fast food what Gap is to Old Navy--it's not Banana Republic, but it is a step up. Â You're still going for that tastes-the-same-no-matter-what-state-you're-in guarantee, and for the most part you're going to get it. Â I tend to order the fiesta salad (or something...the one with cheese and sour cream and salsa and tortilla strips) and don't like to venture out of that comfort zone because you never know. Â I also only go here for lunch with my dad, so I've never had to wait in line to be seated or deal with obnoxious groups of teenagers out on the town in Alameda or secretaries going wild during happy hour. Â Nothing bad to say, minus one star for one particular server that I find annoying.
I have no idea how it would be to eat here for a "date." Â (And I'd probably not go on that date, if that's where we were going. Â But I'm old. Â There were tons of teenagers and young adults waiting to get in when we were leaving.) Â
However, for a meal out with pre-schoolers, this was good. Â It wasn't the cleanest restaurant I've been to -- I noted toothpick wrappers in the waiting area and big crumbs on the seat in our booth -- but since said pre-schoolers are not tidy either, I let that one go. Â There's nothing obviously vegetarian on the menu, but they can make some items without meat. Â Vegan would probably be tricky.
Our waitress was fantastic. Â She brought our orders out on the double, checked in on us frequently, giggled with the kids, and helped us keep everyone relatively quiet and in their seats until the grownups finished their meals.
Come on people! Â It's Applebee's! Â An American staple! Â I love this shit!
We come all the way from San Francisco to go to this Applebee's.
I think it's kind of hilarious that people could give this place a bad review. seriously it's Applebee's what do you expect? Â Why would a vegan ever go to Applebee's. Â hahahaha.. Â that's a good one.
I'm here to boost the rating! Â I love Applebee's!
Okay, seriously the service is ridiculously bad. I mean, my son (he's all of 2.5 years old) is more accomplished at getting a beverage to the table. The food is... well honestly, are you going there for the food? That's a mistake. We don't, we go because they accomodate children and have a very large margarita served in a shaker. My husband can order one which lasts the meal. This is good on two fronts, one: he doesn't have to seem like a big ole hoocher and two: the odds of a second drink making it to the table before our kid turns 18 are slim.
But for families, there is a decent kid menu, balloons, crayons, milk with a straw, all the necessities. Whenever we go, we are frustrated and disappointed and wonder why we did it again. Oh, yeah...I remember! Our son hates Mexican which would be a great family dining option and inevitably, we would have just had pizza the night before.
Anyway, if you can avoid going, I implore you to go elsewhere! At least then we won't have to wait for a table while we regret our decision, once again!
