Applebee's is the only restaurant open late in the City of San Ramon. They are open till midnight and besides, In & Out, Carl'sJr or non sit down restaurants, it is the only place you can get beer and burger at 11 pm. Applebee's has a late night happy hour menu and we ordered off of that.

    Coors Light $3

    Chicken Wings $4

    Cheese Burger Sliders $5

    Chicken Wonton Tacos $5

Total bill $19 before tip. Good deal, food is OK but saved $10 in gas and it's just 10 minutes down the street at 11 pm. Service was good and plenty of parking.

I just called Applebee's to place a takeout order.  Was transferred to the "takeout specialist" who never picked up.  Called back and said phone wasn't picked up.  Was told take out person was greeting other tables and would be right with me.  Waited 3 minutes.  Didn't happen.  Hung up and ordered from Pasta Primavera who promptly took my order

Just went here with my boyfriend and his mom because they wanted to visit their neighborhood Applebee's. The food here is incredibly mediocre and a little overpriced. Some of the service staff definitely leave a lot more to be desired. I give an example, a overweight waitress (never got her name) is getting my plate from me and drops my dirty fork onto my light colored dress! She barely apologized and didn't even give my boyfriend's mom a box for her take away. I mean, she could have offered me extra napkins, seltzer water, SOMETHING. Needless to say, I think the restaurant deserves the 2 stars that they've been given. Definitely never coming back here again. Bad stomach-ache and ruined dress :(

You those places that you can eat at if you want to call in sick to work the next day? The look no further! I've been to this place 2-3 times and each time it has been awful. I personally would avoid it if I could, but there are people that I know that come here because they one of the servers so I try to accommodate.  I'd honestly only come here for the bar and avoid the food unless you want to drop a few pounds by not eating for 2 days after coming here.

Thanks for the free tea fell from the air and landed on my lap and seat and soaked me to my underwear Apple Bee's. I accept the apology from the waiter that had an accident because it was a true apology. I'm totally cool with the server. Accidents happen and such. I hated the fake apology given by the Manager Michelle Austin, sure she didn't do anything wrong but she should take the responsibility of being a management. She did come over and say that I should tell my friends and family that there was a fight at the restraunt and then laughed it off. Now an assistant manager telling me to spread rumors about apple bee's I think not. I rather hit this place with the hard truth. Oh and the discount I thought we were going to get? None, not even a complimentary iced tea as a mistake. I used to frequent this place a lot. Maybe not anymore and all those suggestions to my friends to come here, Perhaps not. I'm advised by many friends that it probably is best not to come back. If I ever give this place a chance again I may raise my review because usually it's pleasant enough to warrant a 4 stars. But this bad experience with the management has lead me to conclude with a one star for now. Not at the servers fault at all.

Customer service goes a long way. So long that it has discouraged us to return. Today, two coworkers and I went for lunch at Applebees and the waitress (Kristen) from the very moment we sat does was quite short with us. From pointing at the menu as her way of saying, "Are you done with the menu? Okay, great, can I take that for you?" which is what I am normally use to at a restaurant, to bringing our food 30 minutes later and never stopping by and asking if we needed refills or if we were okay. This was for an order of SALADS and one sandwich. We received better attention from the backup server. She provided a tone and attitude as though we were inconveniencing her. Also - it was 11:15am and we were maybe the 4th table there so it was nowhere near busy. Hate to see how the end of her shift works out for the customers she's assisting! We asked to speak to the manager and this also did not seem to be a huge concern of his. While he was polite about the incident, it seemed as though it was not a big deal.

One star for the food, five for our server (Michelle, if I remember correctly).  But unfortunately, I cannot round that out to a three.

Another reviewer commented on the steak that he wasn't sure it came from a cattle.  Note to Applebee's buyers - I don't know where you are getting your "steak", but it looks and tastes like a processed, formed piece of something.  The texture is like a chicken breast.  I can't explain it well, but do not get the steak.  Very un-appetizing.

The manager got us two different entrees after we tasted the "steak" and decided we couldn't eat it.  However ... good customer service dictates that he should have come back and checked with us that our subsequent entrees were up to par.  I had the shrimp combo (I give it a 2) and my husband had the ribs (a 3).

However, Michelle did a great job of trying to accommodate us and we really appreciated that.

I am, in fact, a former Applebee's employee  of long, long ago, when Applebee's steak was steak and it was actually .... really good.

Won't be back.  Well, maybe for a drink ... but probably not.

Ouch, I had written this place off a while back - Wife and I figured let's give it another try....The only good thing I can say about this location is that ther server was very nice. Food too way too long - ordered drinks came out right away, ordered dinner and waited, waited, waited, waited probably 30 plus minutes OK for fine dining not OK for this type of place. Dinner arrived one burger (dry) not much flavor, steak over cooked and not really sure what type of steak this really was or in fact if it really came from cattle - not good - sorry never again.

Both of us ordered steak.  Mine was tender enough but tasted as if soaked in salty brine.  My wife had gristle threaded salty shoe leather.  I sent my wilted salad back on the first try.  The service was good but did not redeem the poor food.  At any price, this was not worth the money.

For years we called this place crapplebees.  Never went there.  Well one night we tried to go to a competitor (you know the one, starts with a C and ends with an S and has hili' in the middle).  Well they were closed for the evening and we were hungry.

See, we have a toddler and like to sneak out (with our oldest kid babysitting) for a late night snack.  Applebee's fills that role great.

The food was really good, great beer, and great service.  We have been back a few times and will continue to go as long as we like it.

BTW - the Chicken Wonton Tacos are totally awesome.  We are trying to duplicate them at home.

Wow, this location is great. There food seems to be getting better and better all the time. I had the grilled chicken and shrimp skillet and it tasted very fresh. The steak pasta is also good too. The service on this visit was very attentive as well. Water Glass was never below  half full. Props to this Applebee location.

As compared with other Applebee's this location leaves a bit to be desired.  Somehow the service is not as good, the food not as well presented or as fresh as some other Applebee's including the Applebee's (so far away) in Arroyo Grande, CA, which just seems to do everything right.  So I give this location in San Ramon a 2.5 star rating at best.  We used to go here quite often, but lost our desire as the food just seemed to drift off the deep end over time.

I love going to Applebee's with friends. Over the past few years, I have been here many times and seen good and bad services. But overall I am very satisfied of the food and service.

Taste of food is great. Price is the second factor for me. It is  really cheap for what you get.

I've liked this restaurant in the past but it has gone down hill.  My mom and I went here for a quick lunch.  We both ordered the soup and salad.  My soup came and was cold.  It wasn't just luke warm, it was cold, like just out of the refrigerator.  When I told the waiter he just he didn't even apologize.  He just asked if I wanted it warmed up in the microwave.... definitely not fresh.

I love Applebee's because it's family oriented.  Came here for lunch last Saturday, it was empty and they had 4 wait staff on the floor.  We waited 10 minutes and flagged down the host boy to get our drinks ordered.  I asked if we have a waiter and he said the manager is our waiteress and she is with a customer.  Waited another 10 minutes, the waitress came and asked us if we needed few minutes to look over the menu.  Believe me, it took all my strength to not say anything harsh to her becuase I do not want her spitting in my food.  We ordered and waited another 15 mintues for the food to come out.  When it did come out, the fries was cold and the cooks gave us the wrong order.   No tip for you!

I have always enjoyed Applebee's as a place for some food and cold adult beverages. We usually go there after football & basketball games but I will no longer visit the San Ramon store after Friday Nights experience.

Our service was great, food and beer is always good and their late night happy hour can't be beat but what we witnesses Friday Night and how the bartender/manager handled the situation will make us look for another place to eat and drink after our games, probably Fat Cactus.

My friends and myself sat in the corner table in the bar area, there were three men at the end of the bar closest to the front door and friom the time we walked in until the time we ordered our food, I heard no less the 10 F Bombs, the S word, the MF word. Everyone in the bar area was wondering when the bartender or manager would come over and tell a couple of the regulars to pipe down, you aren't in a sports bar/ night club but a family Grill & Bar. There was a nice lady at the table next to us with her daughter, who I would say was in high school and the Mom was losing her mind and embarrassed of the situation. There was a couple on the other side of us that we making comments and people behind us that were not eating in the bar area that could hear these guys.

I call these guys regulars because the bartender (younger dark haired hispanic guy) came over after 10-15 of this and said to the guys with a smile and somewhat of a laugh and said hey, can you keep it down? How about another word and I will take your drinks away and ask you to leave. The young female manager ion duty never once addressed the issue.

Never again will I step foot into this place!!

When we first moved into this area in the late 80's, we tried this family friendly restaurant based on the TV ads. The food was terrible and we swore we would never return.  We're not foodie snobs but this food was inedible.

Fast forward ten years to the 90's, we thought managers, chefs and food servers probably moved on so the restaurant improved.  WRONG! The food still sucked and again we said we will never return.

Fast forward to 2006, my son and I needed a quick late dinner so we popped into this restaurant, thinking this restaurant had to have improved in the past decade, right?  WRONG again!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice (or thrice), shame on me. I tried to give this restaurant the benefit of the doubt these past decades, but unfortunately it can't be helped.

Been here a few times during normal operating hours (not happy hours). Was pretty standard and did not see anything special so I did not return until recently.

However, came here with a group of friends during happy hour and was quite surprised at the pricing of things. The food comes in a small portion, but its still pretty tasty and the drinks are really cheap. Honestly, would give it 3 stars because its not like its super special. I usually get their 3 dollar long island ice teas, and they have pretty good chicken wanton tacos as well as chip and dips.

Service can be a little slow at night, but thats cause they can get a little busier and they don't have many people working. However, the waitresses are friendly and will compensate for your wait.

Only giving 2 stars based on the food.  Customer service was very lacking.  Seemed like everyone was unhappy at doing their jobs.  Too long time to order and get our drinks.  Refills took a long time as well.  When we got our food, the sides we wanted didn't come out.  Then, we needed a box and the check.  Waited over 15 min for a box and she didn't bring check with her.  When she finally brings check, forgets the pen.  We will not be back at this location.

Not all Applebee's are created alike!  San Ramon is busy but not overcrowded most nights.   We generally go on Friday, Saturday or Sunday evenings and food and service have been good.

The 2 for $20 deal is good and the new Cajun Steak is decent if you order it medium rare and ask for the beans and rice served on the side in a separate dish.

We usually ask to be seated in Rachel's section- she's a friendly server that offers service with a smile and deserves a better tip =)

This is normally a good restaurant for families and children but not this time..  The food is not bad.

The hostess was quick and polite.

Our waitress "Michelle" greeted us quickly and that's where the speed and competence ended.  The service was very slow and she didn't get much right on our order. She kept forgetting what she was bringing.  But the worst part of the experience was that we were seated near the kitchen and when the waitress M went around the corner we could hear her cussing.  We were there with our children and the F word was flowing like water.

Think twice about the "family spot"

    Food 3/5

I was here recently only during happy hour. The boneless wings are $4 (Two plates is more than satisfaction). Honestly $20 will get you more than enough. Two plates of wings and a drink or two. Not a bad place to go to with friends after 9pm.

Note: There are more items on the menu during happy hour not just boneless wings.

Nothing really special about this place. It's clean. Just come here to get a bite, a drink, an chill.

They were short staffed. thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

The 2 for $20 deal is cool.

To be honest it took forever for us to get our food and then the bill wasn't right. The staff was friend though. I doubt I'll be back.

This was our stop on the way home from birdwatching in Milpitas at Don Edwards Park.  On the way back to take a friend to Walnut Creek we zoomed in for a quick lunch and it was a good decision.
The staff were helpful and efficient, the two salads we enjoyed were good.
An Asian chicken salad and one apple walnut chicken salad.  Yum.
I work in this area so I will definitely be back to try more items.
When you are tired, have been driving long distances, the welcoming quick service is very much appreciated.

I recently decided to try Applebee's for a quick lunch with my husband. We had received a gift card for the chain so we figured that we didn't have much to lose.

When we arrived, the restaurant was about 1/2 full. We were greeted right away by our waiter but did not see him again for another 10 minutes. After we ordered off the lunch menu I looked around and noticed that none of the other patrons had any food yet...

After a long wait our food finally showed up and it was extremely disappointing. Maybe I was just starving but the portions were tiny and the food tasted liked it had been hauled out of the deep-freeze and nuked in the microwave for the last half hour. After 5 minutes of eating (the portions were that small) we could'nt wait to leave.

I don't really understand Applebee's whole appeal. I know that the San Ramon restaurant was probably built within the last 10 years but the chain prides itself on its pseudo-Americana decor that might have been fun in 1988.

There are way too many great restaurants in the Bay Area to ever settle for sub-par Applebees' grub again. I will be taking my business elsewhere.

Their food just sucks, period. They get an extra star because the service is good and they are friendly. I went there a couple months ago and the meal was horrible, thought I would try it again today for lunch. I wanted baby back ribs. Now I normally don't go to these type of places for ribs, but for lunch my choices are limited. I wanted Chili's, because although thier ribs are not super, they are good! However, Chili's was at least 90 degrees inside, sorry I can't eat while I am sweating. So I decided to go to Applebees.

Ugh..not a good choice. It was the smallest half rack of ribs I've seen, with very little meat. I'm still debating they were baby backs, probably, but they were burnt so crispy, you could barely get any meat off them. They advertise "double roasted or basted" or something like that...maybe cut it down to single.

I really don't remember Applebee's food being so bad, I used to go there all the time, maybe I was drinking more heavily back then??? Who knows? Anyway, doubt I will go to this place again!!

I always have a great time when I come here with family and friends. The staff is always friendly, patient and helpful.

I definitely recommend the oriental chicken salad, which you can get either fried or grilled. Their chicken and penne pasta is very cheesy, but also very delicious. I got the whole salad and pasta combo for only $7.99.

I recommend going on a weekday around 1 or so. It won't be very busy/crowded.

My Mom likes this place because its so close to her home. Its a good location and always clean. Service is always great here. I've never had a fantastic meal at this location for some reason. The one fun thing is seeing all of the pictures of my old high school on the walls.

    WHOA WHOA WHOA...

Endless chicken strips for $9.99??? And it comes with two sides??? COUNT ME IN.

I thought I had it good last time when I got the cajun tilapia on their Weight Watchers menu, but endless chicken strips? Hell yes. I got this with a side of fries and fruit. Even the fruit was good... not the usual frozen canteloupe with a few grapes thrown in, but fresh strawberries, sliced apples, and pineapple.

I was a little iffy about the service when I sat down, as the table was pretty sticky and crumbly from the previous patrons, but our waiter with the mowhawk was really chill and told us stories about one of the Oakland Raiders linebacks who came in and got 7 endless orders of ribs. Right on.

wow! i cannot believe i'm actually going to do this!

    doing what?

i'm deleting my old 2 star review as to update to this 4 star review of applebee's.

    why?

i have been to applebee's only a few times since they opened and never had good service or enjoyed the selection on the menu or had anything good at all. this is the reason i blew off applebee's and swore to never go back, until tonight!.

i got off work tonight and was a little bit hungry but not so sure what i wanted. as i got close to home i drove around but to only find many places closed. i didn't want to do the grocery store thing again as i usually do every night so i found myself driving by my neighborhood applebee's. what the heck! things could change in 10 years i'd hope.

it was close to 10pm and they were still hopping for a wednesday night. i was immediately greeted and since it was just me she asked if i wanted the bar or a table. i felt more like relaxing at a table and she sat me in a booth. i was greeted by heather, ordered a tall water and was given time to look over the menu. sure it's still a pretty basic menu but it has got alot better since they first opened.

what was i feeling? nothing to big or rich unfortunately as i'm watching my figure. damn, all of the sandwiches, ribs, appetizers, salads, chicken dishes all look interesting with some really snazzy new items to choose from. well i found myself on the seafood page and found some eye catching things. i know! seafood at applebee's?! well tilapia or salmon? the salmon caught my eye once i read more about it. orange glazed salmon it is! grille blackened salmon topped with a caramelized brown sugar and spicy orange glaze. served with almond rice pilaf and seasonal vegetables- $13.99

i added a mixed green salad for $2.99 to be served at the same time as my entree. this way i don't stuff myself on a boring salad.

sitting at a table in a restaurant can be boring but most of the time it's very exciting. the place has so much decor one can get whiplash from looking around so much. the music was just so so but i'm not into adult contemporary pop love songs. on the large screen tvs was the sharks game. ugh! i hate hockey oh well that blondie at the bar is pretty fun to look at and i can here her chatty stories all the way over here. seeing all the food go out to tables was interesting to watch as well. as a server it's fun to see the do's and dont's of employees and customers. the platters here getting carried out are so darn big. these things can be used as shields. oh i have got to see if she can eat all of that!

within no time my meal arrived with a very large starter mixed green salad and a very normal but scrumptious looking salmon meal. i started with the salad- mixed salad greens, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, bacon, cheese, croutons and vinaigrette dressing served on the side. ok! this is a pretty darn good salad. sure it's as simple as they come but every bite was so fresh and unique. the bacon was crispy but had a nice chewy tender texture to it. and the dressing was one of the best i have had in a very long time.

now to the salmon! it was so very flaky and tender with a nice sweet crispy glaze and just a slight touch of spice. and this was a very generous piece of salmon, MY KIND OF SALMON! the almond rice pilaf was very good as well and was used as a bed for each and every bite of my salmon. the vegetables were carrots, broccoli and zucchini. they all looked overcooked but had a surprisingly crunchy texture. i went back and forth from salad to salmon and i ate it all. wow! i made a good selection at applebee's.

heather was very attentive and checked back often and refilled my water as needed. in all the salad was outstanding far a chain and the salmon was a knockout. i would definitely order this same meal again next time.

yes i said next time! i will continue to try this san ramon applebee's location and hope they can keep me happy and coming back to try many different things in the near future.

    ok! i'm now stuffed!

I don't eat the main meals here because the food is really gross, but I gave it 4-stars because the bar is the cheapest in town.

Happy hour is EVERY night and starts @ 9pm till close (11pm).  Half off all drinks as well as the appetizers.  The bartenders are really fun too, so  I have to give them credit for holding the place together.

Today, for instance, our bartender was Brandee and as a joke I was saying that I wanted a drink similar to brandy but that aged better.  She took the joke well and said something cute about how I better be careful what I say to the lady who pours the alcohol.  So when she returned I told her I'd settle for a beer because I didn't want to be skimped on my Crown and Coke.  She ended up pouring me the strongest Crown and Coke I've had in a long time.  And of  course half off.

Fun place to be at night for drinks, just be careful with the food - it's all nasty and fake.  Standard bar food - imitation cheese and everything else.

    I don't belong at Applebee's. I just don't.

Had lunch here and honestly never need to come back. The bf was wanting some hot wings and said they had them 2 ways-either boneless or with bone. Well, when we perused the menu, there is no longer the option for bone-in, just boneless. What came however, were fried chicken bits with buffalo sauce. These were tasty, but not WINGS!!!
For my meal, I ordered the half grilled cheese/half French onion soup. My guy ordered their "Oriental Chicken Salad"....

What I got-luke warm congealed soup and an even less appetizing half sandwich. I took one look, stuck my finger in the soup and pushed the entire plate to the side.
The man got the absolute best plate of Chun King fried canned noodles and slivered almonds either of us had ever had. This came with a few bits of chicken, limp lettuce mixture with a tangy dressing. Impressive...NOT.
Our server took a loooonnngggg time to refill drinks, come back to the table, etc. The restaurant was dead, so there was really no excuse. When he came back to see how our food was, I told him that my food not only came luke warm but was not edible (no bites were taken). He offered to bring me something else, but I told him I had no faith in the kitchen.

So, the ads they have which tote Tyler Florence and Weight Watchers really make me wonder...I only saw 2 menu items that had Tyler's signature mark on it, and since the kitchen was so heavy handed on the almonds and fried noodle things on my man's salad, I wonder what the real "regulation" would be on their WW meals. Be careful my point conscious Yelp friends...

Like my mom always says, "it's reliable, wherever you go."  If I'm looking for a place where I know I'll like the food, and the food is edible, I look for an Applebees.  I've been to this particular Applebees several times.  Every time, I've had great service, good food, and an overall good experience.

Seriously, reliable edible food!  If I'm on a road trip and we need to stop for food, i always look for the applebees, because no matter where you go, it;s the same!

the bf and i ate here the night of my move because it was the only restaurant we could think of in the area that's open til late (12 or 1 am on weekends, I believe). we were tired from moving boxes and driving a rickety u-haul, and we just wanted to eat something, anything (but didn't want fast food).

i've only been to applebee's maybe three times in my life. the past two times, i've actually been fairly pleased with the food. (the first time was like 6 years ago so i don't really remember it.) last time i ordered steak with shrimp, and this time i ordered chicken fried chicken, which came with broccoli and mashed potatoes and gravy. comfort food at its best! both were solidly executed, and while nothing fancy, they were delicious in their simplicity. the chicken fried chicken was especially good!

so yes, i'm writing a positive review for applebee's because of back-to-back good experiences there. oh but one word of advice -- stick to american food. my bf ordered fajitas one time and orange (or mandarin?) chicken the other, and while they were ok, they weren't nearly as good as the more authentic versions you can get at ethnic restaurants.
