I have been here twice. Â Both times the service was good but the food was terrible. Â The first time there was so much butter in my white sauce that it made me sick, and the second time (took me a few years to go back) I got a salad. Â This was an entree salad that I paid $14.00 for at lunch. Â I don't mind paying that if it means that I'm getting fresh ingrediants that were prepared with care, but the lettuce tasted like the bagged stuff and the shredded carrots on top were mostly white, they were so dried out. Â I could have gotten a better salad at WaWa for a lot less money. Â I really have no idea why people love this place, the food is gross.
Review Source:A "local" small restaurant that started out great and has declined. Price points are out of line for setting and service. The servers are a cast of local women who fancy themselves as special. Face it ladies you are waitstaff and should treat patrons with cheerful consideration. Pizza prices should include a sprinkle of 24K gold dust.
Based on pricing and crowds this must be a goldmine.
Look around there are better choices and if you want a dining experience head 2 miles up Summneytow and try the william Penn Inn, class and not much more money..
My girlfriend and I went on a Sunday night around 7:30... FANTASTIC. Â The waitress was fast and attentive. Â The food was AMAZING, I got the grilled platter which was to perfection and my girlfriend got the Curry chicken pasta... amazing... great blend of Italian and Indian flavors. Â WE WILL BE BACK. Â If you haven't tried this place YOU BETTER BECAUSE ITS AWESOME!!!
Review Source:I just don't like when a business makes you wait for the rest of the party to arrive before they sit you. Never made sense to me. Arpeggio does this, well...unless they know you.
I got there about 10 minutes before meeting my sister for lunch. Plenty of open tables. When asked how many I said two then was directed to sit and wait. Really?
If she had been really friendly about it, fine. But the hostess/miserable welcomer was a bit snarky.
While waiting for my sister, someone Ms. Misery knows showed up and was able to sit without having to buy time in the holding area. All within earshot of me. Is this for real?
This is why I hate going out.
Food was OK.
As a former employee who worked there for almost 9 years I am a little disappointed how things have changed. I visited there today with my wife. The food was great. But here is the reason for 2 stars.
The portions of food have gotten smaller while the prices have gone up. Like I said earlier the food still taste as great as it always has but you get less of it now.
But that was not my biggest issue. The biggest issue was the service. We were served by a girl by the name of Carolyn. Who seemed to care less about us for the most part. We sat down and was immediately greeted by the busser who got us our drinks. Then we sat there for 10 minutes without the server stopping by. Finally when she showed up she just said "have you decided?" Â Not how are we doing or my name is Carolyn (we learned her name from our receipt). She took our order and only stopped by to drop our food off. The bussers were the ones refilling our drinks. I wish I could say that was the end of the issues. I went to the restroom and had to walk by 3 other female servers who started talking about there lower female body parts. Which was right near other guest.
I do not know if they have a manager anymore but I could not tell if they did. The service is definitely different when Mary the owner is around.
Based on the lunch crowd here on a Friday I'm guessing this place is a local staple. I stopped in for a quick lunch and this neighborhood Italian spot was all filled up. I was visiting Johnson & Johnson down the street and was told there were limited options in the immediate vicinity so I was not expecting all that much.
We were greeted warmly and the great service continued throughout the meal. Despite the volume of patrons all our food came out quickly to get us in and out in under 45 minutes (and yes they take AMEX). I had the BBQ burger from the lunch menu, I know an odd choice at an Italian joint but when you need a burger you need a burger. It was juicy and cooked medium like I asked but unfortunately the crispy onions on top weren't crispy. My burger came with a side of sweet potato fries but they use the term side loosely as there was probably about 10 fries total. I was hoping for a little more for $13 in the burbs but I would still consider coming back next time i'm in the hood.
The food at Arpeggio is good. Â The organization and service is not. Â Knowing that they would be busy on Valentine's Day I printed out my take out order and hand delivered it 6 hours before the time I needed to pick it up, and even paid the bill in advance. Â But at the appointed hour my food was no where to be found. Â The staff gave me blank looks until someone decided to investigate. Â My order seemed to be an after thought. Â The disorganization has left a bad taste in my mouth even after my meal has been eaten. Â Not sure if I would attempt to order another meal there anytime soon.
Review Source:Came here with friends on a Saturday night....the place was PACKED. Â We didn't have to wait too long for a table though, which was great. Â The service was excellent. Our beverages were refilled frequently, and the 2 bottles of wine we brought (it's byob) were opened immediately. Â We got a variety of things, pizza, combo app plate, salads, 'heart healthy' quesadilla. Â The appetizer plate had tabouleh, feta, stuffed grape leaves, and some other items. It was an ample serving. Â Everything was tasty, but not over the top out of this world. Â There was a little something for everyone on the menu, which is also a fair reflection of the clientelle...there were people clearly on dates next to people in yoga pants with their mom. Â It's a good go to neighborhood place.
Review Source:As a faithful Yelper, I always try to scope out reviews before trying a new place. When my husband said he went out with some people from work and wanted to try that place again, I mistakenly looked up another A-named restaurant in the area. So, I went to Apreggio completely blind. I was also sans-bottle, as the place I looked up had a bar. My bad.
It was good, in the just-good-enough kind of way. We shared a great salad with some sort of roasted squash, too much cheese, and nuts - it was a special - and they split it for us. I think this was about $13, and it was a large portion, with some pricey ingredients.
This brings me to my main problem with Arpeggio - the price. I would almost certainly bump them up a star if the entrees were just $2-$3 less each. We got pizzas, which were good, but not worth the price we paid. The "Pisa" ($12) Â was an extra-thin pizza with sauce and light cheese; it's the most like the pizzas I had in Italy and was really, really good - but probably worth $8. I feel like a cheapskate saying so, but I can't help how I feel.
The place was crowded, what with people lingering over the wine they brought in, so I guess they'll do okay. They also seemed to run a pretty busy take-out business.
My sister goes to college near by, so whenever I'm there, we go to this restaurant. Â The food is awesome! Â Really good portion sizes (not a large amount but not a really small amount) and the food is fresh. Â I got the calamari salad and it was really delicious. Â The servers are nice, but they didn't tell us their name. Â Overall, great experience!
Review Source:Oh man, I hate to rate Arpeggio a three but recent price hikes have caused me to reassess one of my favorite byo's in the area. I understand that the economy is crappy and food costs are rising, but charging eight bucks for a little plate of pureed chickpeas (albeit delicious,) and $18 for a plate of chicken parm (when you can get delicious versions with free salad for $10-14 bucks,) is upsetting. What was once a weekly dining destination will have to become the occasional burb' treat, since for $20+ an entree, I would rather go down the city...
Review Source:The wood-burning brick oven is the real draw. The food is quite good but the restaurant is overcrowded. You're better off ordering from the takeout menu. I highly recommend the falafel and the Genoa pizza (pesto sauce, shrimp, sun-dried tomatoes, black olives). My friend loves the mussels marinara.
Review Source:The food here is good. Â That's it. Â Its very serviceable, nothing great, nothing bad, whatever. Â We had a very bad experience with our waitress. Â I dont know her name because after we were seated for almost ten minutes without any contact from anyone on the staff, she came over and just said "Have you decided?". Â No intoduction, no "Hi my name is Dopey Chick and I'll be taking care of you tonight", just "have you decided?".
Yes, I've decided that your service will be reflected in your gratuity.
Ate here for the first time and it was very good. Service was solid. My date and I started with the calamari and it was the only negative of the night. It was pretty chewy and a little too fishy. For an entree I ate the eggplant rollatini and it was delicious! Good portion and great tasting!
Review Source:Dinner update:
Haven't been there for dinner in awhile. Â I tried the short rib, excellent flavor, half was tender, half was tough, that portion remained behind to feed the dogs. Â The mashed cauliflower was not bad, almost uneventful. Â My friend had the skirt steak, nice flavor served with sweet potato wedges and stated on the menu at under 600 cals. Â
This is still an OK stop for a dinner close to home, don't go out of your way to look for a special night out here, ain't gonna happen.
Food here is amazing! Â Every time I have gone, it has been fantastic. I'm not even that big of a fan of Italian dishes. The pasta and sauce, especially the shrimp with vodka sauce was just wonderful. I remember the taste of it, even like months later. I would totally go back like everyday if it were closer to where I am located. Also, I would be more frequent a guest if the service were better. I think the waitresses weren't so friendly. Maybe it is because they are really busy, but I just remember they all seemed like in a sour mood all the times I've been there.
The food is worth travelling for though. Just make sure you get reservations if you go during lunch time. This place has never been not busy. Â I always make sure to call ahead.
Arpeggio was excellent. My colleague and I dined here for lunch. I'm so glad she recommended this place. Her story of romantic dinners with her husband on balmy nights was compelling enough but let's get to the lunch review. We were seated right away at a table outside. Service was prompt and attentive and the food came quickly. After noshing on the delicious hummus she dug into her Greek (her staple) salad and I into the capri pizza. Yummy! Our waitress kept our glasses full and was very attentive. I will definitely return for a dinner date ;)
Review Source:Great BYOB in Spring house strip shopping center. Soups are delicious as well as All of their pizzas. You can sit outside in nice weather. They will not seat you until everyone in the party has arrived. Can have long waits on weekends, but it is worth the wait. Lots of good pasta and fish/seafood choices.
Review Source:Have been to Arpeggio's serval times over the years. Â This past Saturday was a dissappointment from a service level. Â Everyone was nice, just unattentive. Â We're not high maintenance, and I hate when I feel I have to be just to get the minimum standard of service. The food, as always was very good. Â We'll probably just stick with take out from now on.
Review Source:Visited Sunday night. I've been a fan of arpeggio for years and am happy to see on this visit that it has maintained its quality of food. We had the crab and shrimp curry pasta (unusual and delicious), the mixed kabob (definitely man food), and a mediterranean salad. The stuffed grape leaves are wonderful and herby. Caesar salad is addictive.
Arpeggio's prices have remained reasonable over the years. Thank goodness too because it seems like I can't walk into a restaurant anymore without looking at 20-35 a head main courses for dinner! Our mains were all between 12 and 20 each. Especially because they are BYOB, you won't leave feeling fleeced.
As an interior designer I do wish I could get my hands on their dining space. What looks promising when you enter the nice tiled reception becomes a bland dining room with stark lighting and tired looking tables. Outside is ok, just standard patio furniture along the front overlooking a quiet car park. But probably people come looking for great food and not the trendy decor I favor! Â It would be so easy to dim the lights a little and enjoy some candles though.
The service was poor on this occasion but has been much better on previous visits.
Its always bustling after all these years so they must be doing something right.
Highly recommended
To sum up, I would say that Arpeggio's is consistently good. Â I haven't had any meals that knock my socks off, but I'm always satisfied with the food and the service. Â I've only eaten inside the restaurant once because I really go there to sit out on their "patio." Â The restaurant is in a little strip mall -- a nicer strip mall, true, but still a strip mall -- so the outdoor seating is in front of the restaurant along the sidewalk. Â You're really only treated to a view of cars and people going to and from their cars, but to be able to dine al fresco and enjoy a bottle of wine is pretty great no matter what. Â I also find that the service outside is as good as the service inside -- you don't end up waiting longer or feel forgotten about when you're outside -- it's adequately staffed and promptly attended to.
Review Source:Delicious! We had an assortment of items and everything was well prepared and nicely served.
It was a Friday night and it was very noisy and crowded. We had a reservation and did not have to wait long. Obviously a very popular restaurant.
Four adults, 2 children, no alcoholic beverages or dessert and the bill came to about $150.
Arpeggio has been a staple in Spring House for many years. Â I worked there back in the late 90's when I was in high school. Â Much has changed over the years such as expanding the dining area but the core has remained the same. Â The owners Mary & Hamdy are hands on and remain visible on a daily basis. Â
The menu has something for everyone. Â Pasta, Pizza, Kabob's, sandwiches & home made pita's from their wood burning oven. Â The prices are fair and the portions are perfect. Â During the warmer months they have seating outside. Â Make sure to bring your own libations because its BYOB.
If you plan on stopping in on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared to wait. Â This place is popular and has been since it opened.
Arpeggio may be the best all around restaurant in the area. Â The food is great! Â The pizza IS the best in town. Â Do yourself a favor and try the arpeggio or seafood they are both loaded with toppings and wonderful. Â I love that its never greasy and the crust is thin and perfection. Â The rest of the menu is really good to. Â If your a dessert person you must try the bread pudding.
Another plus is that you can order takeout here as it can get crowded for dinner and lunch. Â Call ahead if you want a table but its worth the wait.
This is a regular spot for take out, and an occasional dine on Friday nights with the crab soup. The brick oven pizza here is the best in the area. They also have great salads.
The reason for the 4 stars is the wait time to sit, and the few disappointing meals. If your not ordering pizza i feel like it can be hit or miss.
Overall a great spot to dine or take out. Relatively inexpensive.
Regular spot for my Wife and I and friends. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is the way they handle seating folks when it gets busy. We've had a 75 minute, 2 bottles of wine wait on several occasions. But, after running out for more wine and a hold over order of garlic knots...it is always more than worth it.
Mussels in red sauce is expertly done. The product is fresh and the mussels are perfectly cooked. Â We order them "Over the top Hot"...and they do a great job with the right balance of heat and flavor. Â A few pieces of fresh, homemade foccacia bread completes the experience. Â Twice after eating the mussels I tried to climb into the bowl to understand how well the mussels had it!!!! Â Get extra bread because you'll want to soak up every ounce of the sauce.
We love the pizza...honestly we've had ever pie they offer and can say with certainty our favorite is ALL OF THEM.
Friday and Saturday night they have Banoffee (sp?) Â A wonderful, homemade banana dessert that makes me want to move in. Â It's banana, pudding, cake, whip cream, chocolate and magic...I always tell friends if they don't like the Banoffee, I'll pay for your dinner.
Go a little early, bring extra wine and enjoy!
Definitely a neighborhood gem for specialty pizza. Â We try to go as often as we can though we don't eat pizza that often.
Their specialty pizzas are excellent and they are made in a wood burning oven made to top it off!
You must get the Hummus appetizer - I haven't found too many places that do it better (I know it's hummus but it's too good). Â I have tried a lot of the pizzas - the Mexicana pizza is my fav. Â Others to try are the Baja, Greco, Four Cheese, Buffalo & Palermo.
It is BYOB so bring a bottle of red, order a pizza and enjoy the combination!
When pizza holds a prominent position on a restaurant's menu and fills a significant portion of it, one would hope for -- expect -- good pizza. When in addition, the restaurant touts its wood-burning oven, one imagines an even higher quality pie. And when one orders the pizza named after the restaurant, one would think it would be a thing of beauty.
It was not -- because good pizza requires more than words and intentions. My "Arpeggio" pizza was none of what I imagined -- tired and tough crust, dull sauce (read: opposite of bright and fresh), roasted peppers from a jar (full of that preservative taste), and a cheese, tasting of supermarket quality. I didn't finish it and didn't take any home. No rescuing it.
I also had the hummus, which was decent and lemony but also pretty small and plain - topped with 1 small olive (no olive oil?, no dusting of cayenne, paprika or sumac?). I suspect that the pita had seen the microwave, because as soon as it cooled, it toughened up to the consistency of stale cardboard (sic). Â Looking around at what others ate at my table, I can't say I saw anything else that I wished I had ordered instead.
Last summer, on a hot evening, my group of 4 had a really bad meal at Arpeggio. It was wrong in so many ways, including the service, that I felt bad for our dining friends who recommended the restaurant (and who felt embarrassed, themselves). But it happens. We've all been in that position of recommending something that didn't come through. And since the owners were away, and the staff seemed to be mice at play, I decided to reserve my judgement until I could give them another try. That other try would be at lunch today. So here we are with many good comments from other reviewers -- and I don't get it. Today was chance number 2 ...and strike number 2. Baseball gives 3 but I say, "next batter".
Super fresh ingredients.
I think the sampler plate is a must - falafel is great, so is the hummus. Nice pita too.
I also had the shrimp and scallop pesto pasta which was great.
I live in Philly downtown and I think that although not at par with some of the best that Philly has to offer, Arpeggio does hold it's own in the "burbs" :)
Went on a busy Friday night. Service was NOT good other than our bus girl - EMILY who totally rocked. We were wishing She was our server.
Told her we'd come back when she got promoted. We mean it!
And who do restaurants think they are adding 20% gratuity  (5 adults & 1 kid) and NOT even telling us? Guess they were hoping for the "double tip" which we ALL have unknowingly done........ Â
Food was very average IF THAT. Â I never met a brick oven pizza I didn't like - til that night - isn't it suppose to be crispy? Husband said his steak was good - YAY b/c nothing else was. Â Grilled Calamari should be firm in texture not soggy which mine was. I regret not sending it back - what was I thinking?
The good part is the place is BYOB. maybe if you drink enough you won't notice the food/service.............
Arpeggio is just an upscale Olive Garden- unimaginative, tacky, low quality, inauthentic food. The only difference is it's more expensive, and that is certainly not a mark of the food being any better. The pasta is consistently overcooked and lost in whatever cream sauce or dressing they glop on. As my noodles drowned in what should've been a light garlic aioli, so did any hope that I'd find a place in the tri-county area capable of making a pasta dish better than I could at home.
As for the "brick oven" claims, I'll believe it when I see it. I am suspicious the pizza is pulled out of a freezer and microwaved on one of those grey "crisping trays" that come with your Bagel Bites.
This one star is nothing to do with the service, which is decent as the place is inexplicably busy. I'm considering opening up a restaurant just to save the dignity of Italian food in the Philly burbs.
Hummus and warm pita bread!!! I'm salivating at the moment(ew) just after I wrote the very first sentence. Their hummus is soooo good. Don't need cucumbers and other shananigans that other restaurants give when you order their hummus because this hummus is THAT good. Arpeggio is one place I truly miss about living in Ambler. Their pesto sauce is ridiculously delicious and I love just about any of their salad choices. Usually, I have no room to eat pizza but I still gorge on that because it's just so good. It's also a BYOB. There's an outdoor seating with clean air(compared to center city). Plus their friendly service is really cherry on top of everything. What's a reason not to go? NADA.
If you were too lazy to read the above, the keywords are: DELICIOUS, BYOB, OUTDOOR SEATING, and HUMMUS.
PS. They offer their pita bread in either wheat or white. Wheat pita bread is really awesome.
Delightful BYO with delicious food. Â I love how they encompass different Mediterranean flavors, from pasta, to pizza, to middle eastern specialties. Â Food is fresh and flavorful, service is attentive. Â Be prepared for a wait on a Saturday night (which is made easier with your own wine and their hot garlic rolls.)
Review Source:I live down the street from Arpeggios. Just love the place. I have ordered many different entrees, pizzas, salad, appetizers from here - dining in and take out. It's busy most of the time - especially on the weekends. If you take out from here (which you have to pick up, they don't have delivery) its usually an average 30 minute wait for the evening time. This to me is pretty good for such a busy place. Definitely a "must-go" for anyone new to the area. Furthermore, its a definite for those who have lived in the area for a while and have still not gone - which is probably like 5% of the Montgomery County population.
A couple of notes:
- Only take reservations for parties over 6 people.
- Getting a table here at night is really difficult (sometimes impossible). There is ALWAYS a long wait.
- It really is best for TAKE-OUT.
- It is a BYOB.
- If you go there enough you can purchase yourself a little chic looking bin to store a bottle of wine in.
This is a place we enjoy taking customers for work as its delightful, especially the outdoor seating when the weather is nice.
As Tracy says, others have said it all. Fresh ingredients, good service, nice Mediterranean fare.
My only complaint is the layout of the menu. The one they present to you (the single sheet) presents good items with an obvious higher margin than some of the stuff inside the bound menu (e.g., sandwiches, which are equally good). Â Once I learned this, I save $5 on lunch many times.
My Favorite BYOB!!! Â This is an awesome Greek restaurant and with personal wine lockers too. Â
The baba ganush is like no other I have tasted and the combo platter lets you experience all of the great Greek appetizers. Â They have options such as whole wheat dough, and non- fat cheese. Â The wood burning oven pizzas are awesome and the cajun chicken style caesar salad is a personal favorite. Â I would also recommend the chicken kabob, crab cakes, and curry chicken pasta. Â
The only bad thing I have to say is even though they have expanded once its still a small place. Â We waited an hour once to sit exactly 6 inches from the table next to us which is kind of awkward.
