Service was very good, we were one of two tables for an early dinner at 4pm (though they sat the second table immediately next to us- which made no sense, as my husband and our neighbor had to bump chairs in a large and empty restaurant). Our server was friendly and attentive.
We ordered "Our Steak" and the Baked Scrod. The pickles and slaw served while we waited was a hit. My daughter ate a ridiculous amount of it and we had to ask for more! The steak was excellent, cooked perfectly to temp with a great sear. The fish was good on one side of the plate and soggy on the other side, edible, but not recommended. The potatoes that were served with both meals were excellent. The table immediately next to us ordered sizzling steak, and I think I would order that next time.
Overall, pretty good! We will be back, but will stick to the steak!

Food was pretty good, waiter was completely useless. If it wasnt for him i would give three stars. This guy was on another planet!

They are known for the steak and you get lots of it. Even the appetizer portions are big. The calamari and the spinach artichoke dip was pretty good. As the entree, I ordered the "junior" sirloin. It was still 12oz of Steak. The potato side was tasty and I would compare it to seasoned home fries. All served on a skillet plate with a pickled pepper on top.
Overall, the steak was a steak like you would grill at home just bigger. I would have liked it seasoned, but should have asked for some A1. I ended up eating it with the pickled pepper and that gave it some kick.

Damn good steak !!  Made to order and hefty serving.  Conveniently though, a small plate is used to serve up almost everything  hence making the portions that are already big look behemoth.  Meals come with complimentary pickles and a chunky picadilly cabbage ensemble.  Their "famous potatoes" are good, nothing out of this world though.  Rack of ribs are tender and juicy too.  Garlic bread is simply done right.  Prices are affordable comparing to fancier steak joints but keep in mind that this restaurant is low key, jeans and sneakers attire ok,  in a Texas style setting...rustic.  I recommend this place if you are a steak, potatoes and cold brew kind of foodie.  Yes there are a plethora of other things on the menu but why order chicken or fish if your in a steakhouse?  Thats just silly.

Poor man's good steak house with pub atmosphere. As an initial matter, we had to wait for our steaks for almost an hour before they were finally brought out. We watched people who had arrived after us get their food first. Finally the steaks had come out. I had "Our Steak", which is 24 ounces, with side of their potatoes. I ordered it medium done, and it was brought out well done. That's probably what took so long, as they were overcooking my steak. The steak would have been ok for someone who likes it well done, but being that I don't like my steaks well done, I didn't really enjoy it much.
After deciding not to have any desserts because we really did not like the service, our waitress tried to rush us out since we were not going to order anymore food because the place started to have more people--that was very annoying.
Steaks are not good enough to justify crappy service. Won't be back.

All I can say is that you should starve yourself for a week before coming here.  The streaks are MASSIVE and incredibly delicious.  Great atmosphere and staff.

Whenever I'm in the area for business I make it a point to introduce Arthur's to my new colleagues, this place is never a let down and its always full. Which means they're doing something Right!

This place is like a see-saw when it comes to dining. Two months ago they had things on track, today our meal was atrocious. Wifey had a steak that tasted like liver, my pastrami looked like corned beef and was dry to boot, The pickle appetizers tasted like they had been run through the dishwasher, the bartender couldn't craft a Manhattan and our waitress was missing in action throughout the meal... We give up.

I was kind of shocked last time I went, for my birthday. The place was empty, and the food was not as good as it was last time. The steak was barely marinated, and I could tell they rushed it because the top was burnt and the inside was raw, even slightly cold for some of my friends. I ordered medium rare, and it came out ok, but it tasted like charcoal :/ It's sad because I always regarded it highly, but now it's subpar. I might as well make it myself. The potatoes were a bit better-not raw like it used to be, but it's small consolation for paying 30 dollars for a steak dinner :/ Hopefully, things will change next time I go...if I go again. Sorry, Arthur's :/

So I wanted to follow up my Arthur's Tavern (Morris Plains) review with a review of Arthur's Steakhouse in North Brunswick.  When I was at Rutgers, we would eat here twice a month...if not more.  The place was cheap (24 oz Delmonico and potatoes was $10.99), the beer was served in 33 oz frosted mugs (it also helped to know a bartender), the steaks were awesome, and the chocolate mousse pie was seriously to die for.

Ok, so those are my memories.  I've been back here a few times over the years and unfortunately the prices have skyrocketed (though after, ahem, 20 years they are still reasonable).  However, the service is about the same and the steaks, soups, burgers, scrod, and chocolate mousse pie are still great.  It's no Rod's Steakhouse, but it doesn't try to be.

Want a good steak, a cold beer, and a great atmosphere???  Yeah, Arthur's Steakhouse is the place to go.  Sadly for me, I don't live in the area anymore so I don't get here as often as I'd like (probably good for the ol' arteries) and the Arthur's in Morris Plains just isn't as good.

I'd probably say 3.5 stars, but since I can't I'll simply round up this time...

Been here numerous times. The food is great. I can't argue with that. Anything positive you read here about it is pretty accurate. However, with all reviews, there have to be some flaws with the establishment. Which is my motivation behind writing most of my reviews.

Every time I go, I ask to be seated away from the bar, preferably in a different room, because the stench from the bathroom lingers.

Now I was there with a group about a month ago and after enjoying our meal, the waitress brought over our bill. Now I understand that majority of their paycheck relies on tips, but she wasn't too pleased about the generous amount we had left her. How did I know? Not only did she decide to throw her arms up on the air with displeasure, but she let the nearby staff know. If she simply let me know, we would have been more than happy to give her more. But her childish behavior didn't warrant that.

I go there with a group consistently about once per month and I can say with confidence that they have lost our business.

Exceeded my expectation for a chain steak restaurant.
We ordered two medium rare, one came closer to medium well, the other one closer to medium rare.
Garlic bread is quite awesome, you an ask with cheese if you want.
Double baked cheese onion soup - quite good, salty but good if you don't plan to order the steak.
Fries - awesome steak fries, crunchy on the outside, soft and hot inside.
The Arthur steak sauce is so good - they sell it for $5.50 to go a bottle.
I just wish they give real plates, instead of those styrofoam ones.

I've been coming to this place since when I was just a little boy from China who loved American-style steaks. I still do and largely thanks to this place, I also know what to expect for my steaks and what I should expect from the average steakhouse.

The problem with these large cuts is that they're huge and tough for your average dainty eater. Yeah, it makes an okay leftover meal, but I understand why that "value" proposition won't work for a lot of people. Still, it's a good value and as said previously, their 24oz flagship menu item sets some kind of standard. I've had better steaks from fancier places but I don't think I've had better steaks from a cheaper place. At the very least, it isn't something easy to reproduce in my kitchen.

The service is pretty okay although I understand why some people might not like it. The kosher-style pickled veggies makes a simple but effective appetizer--for most people they would need it. My family and I are also fans of the garlic bread and my mom digs the french onion soup for some reason--not the reason why you come to a place like this.

Arthur's is a staple steakhouse for central NJ and I'd love to know someone does family-friendly steakhouses better, for people who actually love steaks and care about what they eat.

I've eaten here a few times in the last year as well as many times going back for over 20 years.  It's inexpensive, portions are large, service is usually very good and very friendly, the food is tasty.  The setting is kind of drab.  The place really needs to be updated.  Its drabness does nothing to excite for sure and that's probably because nothing has been changed in decades.

Not exactly a place I would run to for dinner unless I wanted a decent inexpensive steak.  Otherwise, for me it's just a neighborhood place to have lunch and a drink with friends.  In other words, it's good if you're in the neighborhood but this particular Arthur's is not a destination restaurant.

I always have a great meal here. Love the onion soup. Service is pretty poor most of the time. Building is very outdated. It's the kind of place you go for only one reason-  good food.

I took a couple of friends to the steak house. We enjoyed the steak which all of us ordered. I have seen many complaints about the service. Now here is the kicker, my server ran to the parking lot to hand me my baseball cap that I left within the establishment.
Good steak, good drinks, good times, and great service.
    THANK YOU KYLE

My husband wanted to go here for a steak this week.  We haven't been here for a long time.  From the time I got out of the car I knew we were in trouble.  The landscaping outside the door and building were very uncared for.  Upon being seated the menu presented was dirty.  I ordered a martini on the rocks which was served in what looked like a double shot glass.  We both ordered the house special steak med-rare.  My husband's came out rare and was returned and to their credit they gave him a new steak.  Mine was medium and both steaks were very dry, typical of a frozen steak.  This was a Monday night so they weren't busy.  Would have loved to speak to a manager but our waitress told us she was the "manager of the day".  I hate to see a restaurant go down like this but it certainly has.  We will not be back.

I love this place.  The steak is humongous.  For such a large piece of steak they are still able to cook the steak according to what everyone at the table ordered and all arriving at the same time.  If you are a nut like me you should order the 48oz.  Guarantee to satisfy your steak craving.

I have been going to Arthur's Tavern (Hoboken & N Brunswick for 15 years).  With that said, I know to avoid the place during the dinner rush.  Great place for lunch or an early dinner.  I can appreciate the complaints about the service but once that steak arrives at the table you will forget about the mediocre service.

The steaks are enormous, well seasoned  and cooked to perfection.  The prices are  very affordable.  I've enjoyed the margaritas, Cesar salad, garlic bread, ribs and the GREAT food always trumps mediocre service in my opinion.

Horrible! Recommend not stepping foot into this restaurant!
Just terrible, from the hostess, to the waitress, to the food, to the management!

I really wish Yelp had an option to rate this place no stars. My girlfriend and I went to this place for the first time and we had an unbelievably horrible experience.

    1. It was not packed at all, maybe 4 or 5 tables max, but the hostess failed to greet us and we were standing there awkwardly for a wasted few minutes.

    2. The waitress, Isabel, forgot to bring me my beer after almost half an hour of waiting, which I had to remind her. The food took forever as well, almost 40 minutes. 40 wasted minutes! We had the BBQ Baby Back Ribs and the 10oz Strip Steak and they were both AWFUL! The sauce on the BBQ Baby Back Ribs was a bland tasting BBQ sauce. You taste the flavor when it first contacts your taste buds, then quickly fades into nothing. Their Signature Steak sauce wasn't anything special either. The Strip Steak, that was supposed to be served medium, was more like medium well to practically well done, leaving the steak very, very dry.

    3. The waitress, Isabel, also gave us the wrong check. I mean, how can you confuse our check with another server's table. Plus, she was only serving one other table at the time..

    4. It only gets better. The manager was walking back and forth doing absolutely nothing and failed to even greet us. She did not bother to apologize for the mistake the waitress made. The only thing she even said while she was walking by our table was, "Did you get the right check this time?," and just chuckled. You have got to be kidding me! We ended up calling afterwards and tried to explain to her that we had a horrible experience and not once did she apologize for her failure, but instead just apologized for the poor service we had that night. Very unprofessional and obviously does not give a **** about her job.

Overall, you can just tell by the emptiness and dull atmosphere of the place when you first step into the restaurant that you are not going to have a very good experience. And when both the food and service were poorly executed, you wish you had left before the food even came out. I'm surprised that I even paid for the dinner. I hope no one else has to go through what we went through. That is what yelp is for, right?

We love this place.  My wife loves the steaks and doesn't have the complains that some have on here...always cooked perfectly.  I love the parmesian crusted chicken and almost always get that.  Almost too much food is served so we never get appetizers or salads.  Wait staff has always been attentive and good.

I've had good lunches here, but that will never happen again. Went there tonight to have dinner with my girlfriend and had totally rude hostess act is if we were bothering her to get a table. After we were seated, at least 5 waitresses/waiters saw us with menus but never asked if we wanted anything.

After 15 minutes with no sign of being served, we walked out. Rest assured, I will NEVER set foot in here again. The food is mediocre at best, but cheaper than most, and clearly it's reflected in their lousy staff.

A zero star experience. Save yourself the aggravation and eat at a real restaurant.

    Freaken' MAGNIFICENT!!!

24oz Arthur's Steak, Medium Rare, DONE.

I had their 48oz too, EXCELLENT!!! Make sure you call ahead about the 48 oz.

After finishing the 48oz, waitress told me to show up for some steak eating contest, too bad I live in Maryland, I would've showed up too!!!

    This place never fails me.
When I am in NJ, this is MY go-to spot.
Steak aficionados should visit Arthur's, if you haven't, you have not had the steak that you have been looking for.

Try it, I guarantee you you will love it.

    This is what I get:

    22oz Steak med rare
    French Onion Soup
    Garlic Bread
    Done.

I fell in love with Arthur's Steakhouse from day one which resulted in countless visits over my years living in NJ.

The 24oz Arthur's steak for 22bux is a steal and my favorite steak to order (it used to be $19 a few years ago). Its always juicy with the perfect crust complimented by the fat loaded with flavor. I always order this with a side of mushrooms and grilled onions which is a perfect combo with the steak. I have also ordered the 48oz steak (takes 45 minutes to cook) which of course I did not finish and the 26oz bone-in porterhouse steak which was good cept not as good as the 24oz steak in my opinion. I have never ordered any other entree except the ones above. All steaks are served with Arthur's potatoes which are yummy too cept I never end of finishing them.

If you are going with a group you can't lose with the Nachos which are one of the biggest nacho plates you will see in your life. Can't lose with garlic bread with melted cheese....dripping with butter but delicious.

Great place for groups or for a guys night out!

Don't you love the days/nights when you're craving something very particular, that seems almost impossible to find, and then you decide on a whim to go somewhere, and BAM! they have it? That was my past friday night with my SO. He was craving a hot dog like no body's business. Sure, we could pick some up, or go into bruns for tido's, but he wanted to sit down (we both had long days at work) and have a drink. I wanted a burger- where to go? Do you know how hard it is to find a hot dog at a pub?

we struck out at several places, and finally were reminded of Arthur's- we had gone here one before for take out, and we liked it. I hoped for hot dogs for my SO since he was borderline ready to pass out. We went inside, and right there above the hostess' stand SO saw something about them serving foot-long thuman's dogs- we were sold.

I particular craved a burger with bleu cheese- ask and you shall receive. SO got the foot-long dog with a side of baked beans. We fell in love with the complimentary pickles and house slaw- so good- it's sweet, shredded thick-yum all around. My burger was perfect, my only complaint is that it didn't come with tomatoes or lettuce, but I think that is something you have to ask for when ordering. The fries are cut thick. SO's hot dog was quite long, and he ate it all, along with two tall glasses of whatever beer they had on draft.

We ordered a slice of cheesecake to go- it was good, I think they get it from Harold's. Our server was good, and got our food and drink to us quickly. The restuarant's ambiance reminds you of an old school family restaurant- lots of dark panelling, lots of beer/liquor signage.

A great and affordable dinner for the two of us (with drinks and tip it was 39). Definitely will come back!

I dare you to find a place that serves this much juicy, delicious steak for the price... well in Jersey at least.

For $22, you get a huge 24 oz. chunk of Ribeye/Delmonico meat.  It comes with some paprika seasoned potatoes that go pretty well with the steak.  Oh and the cherry peppers seal the deal.  The hamburgers aren't bad either but I come here for the steak.

Definitely one of the best bang for buck steak places around Jersey.

Honda car - at Yugo prices!
    ---
I heard quite a bit about this place for several months, so we decided to check it out.

The first thing I noticed was the "Elk Lodge" type of environment (exposed wood boards; plaid-patterned, plastic table cloth; disposable appetizer plates; random beer ads printed on mirrors).  No matter, let's talk food!

    She decided on the house special 24 oz;
    I got the T bone 19 oz

Garlic bread was only so so.
The Complimentary Hot peppers and the house slaw was actually very good. The slaw was almost like Cole slaw, but without mayo, which actually earned MAJOR bonus points with me.

Now, onto the piece de resistance - the 24 oz house special was appropriately seasoned, and tender (but that was because of lots of "marbling")
My T-bone was even better. Juicy, flavorful, and a delicious filet portion of the T, which she really enjoyed.
One negative would be their failure to control the cooking temperature properly - even though they attempt to control for this by using color-coded plastic stakes. FYI, Medium rare should be warm red center, with some juice, NOT pink. Most places can't seem to realize the steaks keep cooking AFTER you remove them from heat.
That being said, leaving a pretty good steakhouse for around $50 for two is no mean feat.
    Would definitely come back.

I've been here a handful of times - groups of 2, 4, or even 6; the waitresses were consistently good - they go out of their way to make you comfortable, as if inviting you into their home/tavern.

The cabbage and unlimited pickles (mmm!) are great to get your tastebuds ready. For my meal, I haven't tried anything other than the 24 oz steak - it's gone up a few bucks but it's still a great deal and a great tasting piece of meat. Top it off with a nice pint or two of beer and you're set for one big food coma afterwards.

If you get the steak you won't want to get an appetizer, unless you're sharing it. The steak is difficult to finish (though I've done it in one sitting) since it's so big. It's just good steak --juicy and does not need additional saucies. Everything about Arthur's is what I'd picture a steakhouse to be... it's a shame this place is so far from me otherwise I'd be a regular here.

Our group was 4 coworkers, all carnivores.  After reading the previous reviews, I talked Arthor's up to the other 3.  Yelp, don't fail me now.

The good: Atmosphere was familiar, nothing fancy, down home feel, food quantity was abundant (to say the least), service was attentive.

The bad: while you get a lot of food for your money, it's not particularly good. They have interesting starters, bowls of pickles and a cabbage salad, but they were delivered with the pickle bowl on top of the salad, with the bottom of the pickle bowl resting squarely on the salad. Disgusting.  I do believe I'll pass, thanks.  I had "Our Steak" with "Arthor's potatoes." The steak lacked flavor and though claimed to be 24 ozs, about 40 percent was solid fat and gristle.  The potatoes were sliced red potatoes, with no seasoning and burnt to a crisp.  I ate 2, drowned in ketchup.

If you simply want a lot of food and don't mind mediocre quality, this is the place for you...though you may be enjoying hospital food soon anyway, as you'll surely need an angioplasty or triple bypass at some point.

In my opinion, life is short (shorter still if you eat here with regularity) and I prefer to spend my time and calories on food I truly enjoy.

Recession steaks!  But it don't taste like one in your mouth!  2wenty 4our ounces (48 if you're in it to win it) of mouth-watering, bib-drenching, pupil-dilating, fork-and-knife quivering, hunk of beef that will satisfy your carnivorous desire.

Hometown feel, great potatoes, spicy-sweet ball peppers (the kind when you take a bite, squirts hot pepper acid into your eyeballs, blinding you as you chew), and decent service.  It's a very white America type of place but hey, it don't matter when we all bleed red and eat red!

This is not Luger's, Wollensky, or Strip House but you're not coming here for that anyway.  You're coming here for the value, and once you look at the menu, you'll realize that you're getting the best steak deal that the tri-state area has to offer.  Great piece of steak for less than $35 or so with all the sides.  The place is awesome for everything from birthday dinners to very unromantic beefy getaways.

This is central NJ's best kept secret.  I don't know whythe Hoboken cousin is more hyped up than the NB one. Although the price of the flagship 24oz has gone up in price over the years, it is THE best steakplace!  You start with a checkered table cloth and styrofoam bowl of pickles and jalapenos.  You look around and see the parade of beef. Finally a plate full of potatos and charred cut of heaven arrives. You will definitely not eat steak for weeks if you get through some of it.  Arthurs is so consistent with every steak I have ordered. Service is great and always happy to wrap any leftovers (and you will have one).  Arthur's might stop your arteries but there is NO steakhouse like it!

Unfortunately this is no longer owned by the same people who own Arthur's in Hoboken.  Which is a shame since that location was quite good when I was there a few years ago.  This location was just okay, with the only real problem being the meat.  But since it's a steak house, it's a problem when the star of the show does not shine!

While we were looking at the menu, we were served a bowl of awesome dill pickles and cole slaw.  Two of us had the baby back ribs, and two had "Our Steak," the house specialty.  The ribs were most definitely not falling off the bone, were not soaked in flavor as ribs that have been slowed cooked should be, and were fatty.  The steaks were also a bit on the chewy side and both were oversalted.  The potato sides were quite good though (both the mashed and Arthur's potatoes) as was the sangria, and our waitress Wendy was wonderful.

I can't say I'll be back though.  I would sooner make the trek up to Hoboken.

My wife and I finally had a chance to visit Arthur's again. We last visited about 10 years ago and the experience was as good as always. We arrived sometime after 8PM and were seated right away. As usual service was prompt and very friendly.

I had a pint of Guinness and my wife some wine. We skipped the appetizer and ordered steaks, I got "Our Steak" (a 24oz rib eye) with sauteed onions and she had Arthur's Jr. (16oz sirloin) and a baked potato. Their signature pickled salad was fresh and steaks were cooked just like we asked.

The bill came to just over $60 before a tip. Overall we had a nice meal and a good time.

Stop by Arthur's the next time you're in the New Brunswick area, you'll love it.

When I think of East Coast pubs and/or taverns this is the image that comes to mind.

Dark wood, Christmas lights all over the building, not too bright, large portions, very friendly waitresses, and many beers on tap.

I love the pickled salad they serve here, and the larger portions they have of food that is cooked to order.

When I am in town, I come here to eat at every opportunity.
